[Tutorial]Making your own theme using UOT Kitchen(WORKS WITH NEW GINGERBREAD ROMS!)) - XPERIA X10 Themes and Apps

(Most of this tutorial was taken from mendozinas on XDA)
Kitchen originally was built for HTC Desire, but now it supports most devices with Android OS.
Kitchen takes files from your rom and adds modifications you choose.
I have no association with this site, just a fan of it =)
With UOT you can customize the notification bar, notification bar icons, boot animation, window animations, and much more!
THIS WORKS WITH ANY 2.2 and 2.3 ROM!
Just an example of what I did to the notification bar icons on Wolfbreak's ROM using this website.

Make a backup before you do this. I am not responsible for what happens to your device. (Tough to mess up =) )
How to use kitchen
1. Go to Kitchen page http://uot.dakra.lt/kitchen/
2. Browse through available mods and choose what you need (press generate preview)
3. Go to File upload section and upload your files or choose rom from kitchen's list (most roms in the list is for HTC Desire) Make sure you do this or you cannot finish your process. I have only seen Trips old 1.5 MIUI ROM and Wolfs 007.1 on the list. Send a request in to UOT Kitchen to add any ROM to the kitchen list.
OR
3. I suggest navigating to your rom, clicking system, then framework, then framework-res(for froyo ROMS only)
For gingerbread ROMS just upload the SystemUI file as well along with the step above.
4. In the same tab you will see "Select flashable zip scripting" Make sure you fill the bubble for "Amend scripting."
Cyanogenmod7 rom: Cyanbread.apk or Androidian.apk or any theme for ThemeChooser (rename as you like it to appear in theme menu)
NOTE 1: if you uploading theme apk - do not upload any other files (you're just wasting trafic, because kitchen will ignore additional files)
NOTE 2: Font packs and Bootanimation do not requires uploading files.
4. Go to Summary section. All choosen mod must be in green background. If there is mod in red background - it means you did not finished it.
press Submit work to kitchen
5. Remember UOT file name. You can wait for a kitchen to cook your request, but after 5min waiting will be stopped (nothing to worry about).
6. Go to Pickup page http://uot.dakra.lt/pickup/ and wait for your file to appear (it can take up to 30min or more)
7. Download UOT zip into SD card of your phone
8. Reboot into xrecovery and flash the UOT zip.
9. Reboot and enjoy =)
IF YOU HAVE ANY TROUBLE, JUST MESSAGE ME AND I WILL BE GLAD TO HELP

Not sure what your talking about for the stock 2.2.1 froyo, but if you download it and go to the system--> framework -->then res.apk you can find it

thanx.. although I already know how to find out problem is my framework already has battery percentage so it just keeps coming up with error when going through the kitchen hence I was hoping someone had the unmodified framework-res.apk?

Highlight system files because your uploading Wolfs Rom. Make sure you extract WB-009 Rom into a folder you can navigate to. Then when you have a folder go to the system--->framework---> Then framework res.apk. Then go to upload and then your good =)
Also make sure to highlight in "Amend scripting" instead of "edify scripting"

Thanks, i will use it!

Is there a way o remove the black box behind the lockscreen ?

Attempted with new gingerbread and it works! Just upload the framework res apk AND the SystemUI which is under system---> app--> SystemUI

Circle/custom battery, custom smileys, custom bootanimation for DHD 1.32/1.72

Hi friends,
If you want to have nice custom batteries as they are seen below - or smileys or bootanimation -:
First pull the framework-res.apk from /system/framework/ (only for custom battery icons)
there are two ways, you can find them here:
http://circle.glx.nl/how_to/
than:
1. Open http://circle.glx.nl/
2. Choose version. There are 4 options today (22/11/10):
a)SCB with %, Version [A-I] (you can choose whole themes)
b)SCB with %, Version Z, Custom type, colors (you costumize what you want to get)
c)Flashable zip only (if you have the framework-res.apk what you want to flash)
d)No battery, theme only
3. Choose or make your battery icons. (only a,b,c)
4. Decide if you want emoticons. Status bar icons doesn't work with DHD.
a)Do not include icons - No emoticons and status bar icons
b)Themed icons sets - You choose wich pack you like
c)Custom uni-color icons - You choose a color, and you get the status bar icons in this color
5. If you chose b or c, than you make your icons.
in b) you need to check the "include icons" to have them. To choose use the "preview" link.
in c) you choose color and generate the icons
6. You just click next, as the Status bar notification editing is only for the Desire.
7. If you want to have a new boot animation
a) find the place of your current bootanimation.zip (you can do it in your ROM's zip, for ex.)
b) Select place for bootanimation
c) select desired animation
8. Set Select ROM you use to Desire HD ROM, then next.
9. Choose your framework-res.apk, click next.
It will upload it and generate the flashable zip file.
10. Click download.
11. Boot into recovery.
12. Make a backup!!!
13. Flash the zip you downloaded.
14. Reboot.
15. Enjoy it
If you want to change a CM7 battery, than you should see this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=964280
And this way you can get something like this:
{

few app has an .odex file and an .apk
the de-odexed ROMs don't have the .odex files
if you take a look at Pay's ROM or LeeDroid's ROM, you'll find something like this:
-Full De-odexed
in the features.
Make a backup, flash a deodexed ROM and flash the custom battery and smileys
It's not possible to de-odexed the default rom ?
framework-res doesn't have a .odex file. I believe this is because HTC allow us to download skins from their website and they overwrite files in the framework-res.apk
Are you making sure to select Desire HD rom in the kitchen?
Yeah absolute i make the procedure twice
as I know deodexing is a requisit for theming
and of course it is possible to deodex a stock ROM, but believe me, the guys with the custom ROMs make a lot of tweakes what you shouldn't miss : )

this is based off the newest aospGBmod posted early this morning i will likely be making new versions of this till he posts a deodex'd version:
This is a Full ROM (not just an Update or Theme)
-you MUST do a clean install (since the build is odex'd failure to do a complete wipe will cause problems)
features,
- twopointthree theme (minus the themed desk clock the stock ones still works though)
- a lot of bloat removed
-stock launcher2
-notification tray toggle switches are removed
-added back the stock (themed) music.apk
things i have taken out
-pacman.apk (used for installing commonly downloaded items from the market on the markets first use)
-livewallpaperpicker - i dont use live wallpapers so it just took up space for me (i will likely make a flashable zip to put them back in for people who want them)
-adwlauncher (the market one is better atm anyway)
-cm wallpapers
-home screen tips
-probably a few other things
download here
THIS ROM IS AOSP'S WORK, I SIMPLY THEMED IT AND REMOVED THINGS FROM IT!
this is a screenie of the twopointthree theme since i cant get drocap to work (you will not have the homescreen tips)

And so I check XDA forums and BANG here it is.
Thanks a million. I will use it religiously.
Glad to see you're still working on your themes for GB, downloading now
Ok, I can't download it stupid 4shared keeps quiting download right away and I only get 100KB of it... Anyone else having problems? I'm doing this on a computer not my phone (which gives me the same damn problems)
updated the first post, now that i have a ROM to build off of i should be able to RLS mostly updates for a while.
in order to use the update, starting from scratch
-nandroid
-install the ROM
-install your Gapps
-boot go through startup wizard (or just boot up if not using the wizard)
-then flash the update
if already using the ROM
-make a nandroid
-flash the update
enjoy guys! its bed time for me again
Please, I wouldn't normally ask this, but could you re-upload to somewhere besides 4shared? I cant download the ROM.
Great job Kyle! Looks awesome as usual my man. As soon as aosp gets Bluetooth and GPS working I'll be on the 2.3 bandwagon

the signal bars are in the systemUI folder
the volume up and down are controlled by an xml in the framework-res
since the stock ROM is odex'd you cant just flash this over top of it hence why you cant just have the signal bars, i am getting around it because i have modified the ROM so i can get in and tamper with it without causing an issue
ur good at theming, is everything i need to theme besides apps in the framework folder? or is it just framework.apk an stuff that has .jar have nothing to do with themeing

But, any suggestions are wellcomed
I've made is a flashable zip (signed) with framework-res.apk from LBC Saga ROM v. 0.4.2.
So if you're on another ROM and want this, just download those png's and incorporate them to your framework
If youre not sure how to do that, see THIS HOWTO!

DOWNLOAD just those PNG's

Interesting, I will try all that stuff when my DS will be unlocked...
Could you make screenshots directly w/ phone ?
Can i use these PNGs for modding an HTC Legend ROM? Or are them too big?
Haha, I had legend before I made a MOD too These are HDPI (38 x 38 pix).. use THESE instead! Cheers

Just jump ship from my WinMo 6.1.
manage to get my desire S-Off and rooted. badly need this battery mod.
but can't flash your zip file . attached is my framework-res.apk.
can you please please incorporate the png into this framework file.
many thanks.
golok.
I will upload a LBC 0.4.6 version of the flashable ZIP today afternoon when I get back from work...
but you should be able to incorporate the PNG's yourself, I did a noobie-frendly howto in Legend section HERE
It should work on any ROM and any apk file...
i got problem on flashing the zip using clockwork mod recovery.
the messages are
Amend scripting (update-script) is no longer supported.
Amend scripting was deprecated by google in android 1.5.
it was necessary to remove it when upgrading to the clockworkmod 3.0 gingerbread based recovery.
please switch to edify scripting (update-script and update-binary) to create working update zip packages.
installation aborted.
i'm using clockworkmod v3.2.0.0
BTW i'm on Desire S SEA standard ROM on android 2.3.3.
will try to go thru the noobie guide.
btw can i just push the framework-res.apk via adb after extracting from your zip file ?
thanks for the reply
Right, I think the update is amend... but it would cause you bootloops anyway, because you have odexed ROM and a different one than I modded...try the howto instead
@ ALL: I did not realize that I can't use Amend scripting for DS, which only has CWM 3.x.x.x, so the flashable ZIP probably won't work at this time, I will post an update and I will post a fresh flashable ZIP for the 0.4.6 version later today...
Cheers!
thanks . i'll incorporate this into my framework-res.apk .. might be a awhile if time permits.

Great work tripin Thought of posting this gingerbread port in a few days.. anyway this is cool theme.
Trip,is there a way to make "theme organizer app" for android?

->Apply selected theme
Is that possible?
Im thinking of trying it, whats ur opinion?
Thanks @ bala and @ krraazzy. I had just made it for fun sake, was trying to theme GB for first time. Thought of sharing it here, though it is not complete, it looks good compared to bland look of the stock theme. But will surely try to port complete theme once we have fully working stable GB.
plz add 1 % battery mod
@sakindia, Give me some time.

Sent from my GT-I9003 using XDA App
That's a good idea bala. Do you have any plans to bring such functionality to stock rom? I had seen it on CM7.

Don't get confused, the menu background has been made white with black font colour, to make the icons visible. Xml edit is not successful yet.

Why dont you guys make use of modded recovery by skin. Alternatively, Yes method remains the same as earlier. But just see that you put the contents the way they are packed. I mean in the same of system folder as their arrangement in the ZIP using root explorer.
You have to use contents of system folder only. the Meta-Inf is for recovery update zip.

Nicely done! Also not my style but good to know this is here!
I currently have magiclocker installed as a replacement lockscreen because of the no caller ID on the lockscreen issue.

Man... i wish i was as good as you are... ..
i don't know what's the taste of people...really hard to guess... I spent atleast 5 hours to look for icons on web and resize and incorporate them coz i was totally new to theming stuff...
well i m it out of it for now due to lack of positive feedback ....
atleast it will open doors for others who want to try themselves...
Will upload source files and method of how to do it so that people can do that themselves...

I do appreciate the work that you have done so far.
Taste is different on each person.
Neutral ones are always nice for a lot of people.
A method would be nice so that some people can make that special ones.
Can't wait to start on it
not as good as yours but I tried

How come everytime i put the framework file in te framework folder my phone restarts and then get stuck at the rom logo.
I then have to flash my rom again to get my phone started.

i hope you are not using framework.res.spk file from some other ROM.. Extract it from the ROM you are running... incompatibility issues can cause it
Secondly, makes sure it's png file format... find the files in my sample zip inside your framework file with same name... Use them as your base and edit them... Don't resize any png file and save uncompressed.. Should work easily...

I just had the same. I thought I had previously had it working with a 4.0.3 based ROM but maybe not ...... re-flashing the ROM now
And don't forget to set permissions correctly...
