[Q] stock apps into a rooted phone - General Questions and Answers

Very important fact about this question: I live in El Salvador.
I used to have a HTC Desire HD, never rooted or anything of that sort. Sold it almost right away since the maps, the internet connection(only edge) and the Location app didn't work.
I have an unlocked ATT inspire 4G and everything works great, Footprint app great, Maps great, internet with H+, not many complaints about it.
I recently bought another Inspire 4g, rooted with CoreDroid 5.1 with GB2.3.3, unfortunately, it comes with the LOCATION app from "my former" Desire HD, so now I can not mark anything since the map doesn't work, it won't even let me access the map store.
So the big question is: how can I install the stock footprint app that comes with the inspire 4g and get rid of the Location app from the rooted HD rom?
I have downloaded the new version of CoreDroid, V7 with sense 3.0, do I just flash it as it is on my rooted phone, OR do I have to get rid of the version that is actually running first?
THANK YOU SO MUCH IN ADVANCE, FOR ALL COMMENTS, GUIDANCE AND HELP, anything will be greatly appreciated.

Root or what for my situation?

I have unlimited data plan through grandfathers option which I don't want to let go of ,so there seems to be no option for tethering.I had a captivate previously but someone liberated it the other day.I bought the Inspire thinking that since it was froyo 2.2 I would be golden for hot spot which is how we get our net access these days and it has been great.I have noticed lots of folks having problems rooting, and those who are able to are losing their sound. Is there an app that will work similar to
" mywi " that the iPhone uses? I sure don't want to give up my unlimited data,is there anything besides a custom Rom I can do,and will rooting allow me to enable the hotspot feature?I have modded all kinds of phones, game, consoles ,and I am comfortable rooting this thing if it will get me running again. Thanks in advance for any answers or suggestions anyone may have. I sure do like this phone,it is way faster at everything than the Captivate and I have only had it a day.thanks,Vegas

I would say root it and flash android revolution, mainly cause its stock sense and all the features your looking for are enabled after flashing this rom, including the sound thing. Rooting isnt as easy as it was on captivate, but if u follow the video tutorial you shouldnt have any problems. I have never rooted a htc device until i got the inspire, but i managed to get it done the first try with the youtube walkthrough.
So to sum up, root, install CWM, then flash custom rom of your choice. Then enjoy your amazing android device.

I will give it a Shot when I get home from work,Thanks for the Shot of Confidence! Do I need a seperate Micro SD to make a "Gold Card" or can I just save the stuff on the one in it,format and use as Gold Card, when done, format and restore files to my Micro SD? Thanks Again,Vegas
You can use the card that came with it. Like you said, just make sure to back up any files on it.

Have you seen this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=960058) thread. Multiple users, including myself, have been able to get wifi tethering to work without Root. Simply adding a custom APN unlocks this ability
Previous to adding this APN, when I would launch Wi-Fi Hotspot I was greeted with a message that I do not have a plan that includes tethering. I added the APN and am now able to use this app without any problems. Note: Most of us had to reboot after adding the APN to get wifi tethering to stay on
Wow,that would be awesome,thank you,Vegas

[Q] Why Is My Inspire 4G Identified As A Desire HD?

Hi, all.
I'm a new Inspire owner, an I'm going crazy trying to download an app from Android Market. When I finally was able to get the download started, a message popped up saying that I have a Desire HD and it's not supported by my provider, and it refused to download.
I looked through the settings and found "About phone," and under that "Phone identity." Here it says, correctly, that my Model number is HTC Inspire 4G.
So why does the download process think I have a Desire HD, and can I change it? This isn't the first time I've seen my device recognized as a Desire HD. I also see a lot of posts here saying "Posted from my Desire HD." I suspect that these are Inspire users having the same thing going on.
What can I do?
Thanks!
P.S. If anyone can tell me how to search the forums for this issue, I'd be happy to do so. Since the early days of forums, I've never been able to figure out how to search for a phrase. Is it possible? I tried several searches here, and kept coming up with 999 hits.
The Inspire is the US version of the Desire HD.

Yes, I was aware that they were the same thing, or close to it. The Inspire is also (of course) the AT&T version. The issue is that some software apparently isn't smart enough to know that. Thus it claims that AT&T doesn't support the Desire HD; I assume that if my device were identified as an Inspire, it would be just fine.
Thanks for the quick response!
Might I ask what app you are trying to download?

I just discovered that when I email, my phone is correctly identified as an Inspire 4G!
Actually, this is all academic now, since I was able to download the apk from the EasyTether home page. I really would like to know what was going on here, though....

About easytether, obviously you missed all the tech sites reporting that ATT, T-Mobile, and Verizon blocking the tethering apps from the Market on their devices. Since you wanted it, you were right to sideload it. As for the other issue, not sure, but I just changed my Sig from this app to read Inspire.

Not only that, but if you try to install apps from the web based market, and it asks you which device you want to install to? The Inspire is listed as a Desire HD. Just like the MyTouch 4G is listed as the Glacier, and the G2 is listed as the Vision.

Extra Vodafone crapware being deployed

A Vodafone customised version of Android Market has just been silently pushed to my Sensation.
"My Apps" tab has been replaced by "Vodafone" - a list of vodafone apps and other recommended apps.
I do not want this crap - I was just about happy, putting up with the minimal branding as it existed. Now I need to be able to flash a generic ROM again.
What region?
I just noticed something like this, but after a reboot it disappeared (please note that I have fast boot deactivated).
I'm in the UK.
welcome to the club, TMO has i think 8 apps/links that are completely useless, and 3 or 4 are ALWAYS running, chewing up the ram
and im still on stock out of box OS version :/

You're right. I just rebooted and it returned to normal. What are they up to?
My unbranded UK Sensation has a HTC button in place of the normal My Apps. I find it a tad annoying, as I'm used to clicking that button to check what updates I have available.

What market version is it? Mine is 2.3.4 but i saw on the Vodafone forum about this this morning.
Mine is also 2.3.4 now, but I didn't check it at the time, before the problem went away on reboot.

from what i know its not crapware just an extra channel with apps reduced or free. It makes sense that if this takes off then there will be no need to have all the bloat on your phone in future.

Really angry about this decision to hijack my Market app without consent. I prefer the much more useful "My Apps" tab not some link to crap 'partner's apps.
On unbranded you get HTC.
Freeze the stock market using temp root and then put an intended market on your phone using gapps.

As anybody else on vodafone uk notice the hidden vodafone rescue app start to install itself whenever debugging is on and you reboot? Even when you un-install it it will reinstall when you reboot.

Is the People app part of the new ICS 4.0.3 update?

I just upgraded my t-mobile (usa) sensation 4g to the new ICS 4.0.3. I have read a lot about the new People app replacing the old Contacts app, but my phone does not seem to have it. Only the older Contacts shows in the app drawer. Does anyone know if People was even part of the update? Is anyone using People on the 4g? Would someone that just recently upgraded their Sensation 4g (usa) to ICS take a look in their app drawer and see if it is listed.
Thank you very much!
s
Nope, I do not have the "People" app, still the old "Contacts" app from GB
Thanks Djc5581! Maybe that's just the way it was shipped. Odd that I haven't seen anything about people complaining about it absence. Reading the ICS reviews (not for the T-mo update) it seemed that it was a substantial change to the whole contacts approach.
Maybe someone else has heard something.
Thank you for taking the time to respond!
regards,
s

[Q] Best option to get free wifi hotspot working

I lost my Sensation that was rooted and flashed with Revolution ROM (which I loved!) and replaced it with the One S (since it was free). I'm now looking to get my wifi hotspot working again without paying T-Mobile an extra $20 or so a month and I'm overwhelmed with all the apps and the new ROMS for the One S. I'm pretty happy with the stock ROM and i'm just looking for the best option to get free wifi hotspot. I don't mind paying for a good app that will let me do it as long as it works well and does not require other computers to download a special program to access the web. Just looking for native-like operation.
If a good app is not available, I'll have to root and find a good ROM. Would appreciate any suggestions on ROMS that have no issues with wifi.
BTW: I did do the 4.0.4 T-Mobile USA update. Didn't realize that was a bad move.
