Having issues with rooting - T-Mobile LG G2x

ok So we rooted my phone today with SuperOneClick
downloaded and paid for the premium version of ROM Manager
everything was going fine
we loaded up CM7 onto it
then went into ROM manager to fix permissions and it said "An error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands"
also .. we tried using recovery in ROM Manager to go back to my stock rom that we made a backup for .... clock on "Reboot in Recovery" and then clock "OK" and it does nothing ... just stays in the ROM Manager menu ... if i manually hold down the power button click reboot -> recovery then it will power off the phone ( i have to manually turn it back on ) and it sits in the screen like it is recovering forever without doing anything .. no progress bar even ... needs battery pull to go back to normal )
can anyone help me with what is going on here? when rooting we allowed superuser and also told it to install busybox ... not sure what went wrong ... used the same exact process on my friends phone and it worked perfectly
oh and when i try to go to terminal emulator or titanium backup it basically tells me in not rooted ... but according to superoneclick im rooted .. and also i have CM7 on it.. so im definately rooted
thank you .. and im sorry if this has been covered .. ive searched Cyanogen forums, google and this forum and androidforums and did not find my answer

Sounds like you are having issues with the install, and can't do anything about it because you dont have the proper recovery. Rom manager is just the ui of cwm. You have to use nvflash to wipe your stock recovery and put cwm in its place. Then, when you turn the phone on with the button combo, it will go to cwm and you can restore, flash something new, etc. its your only option. There is a tutorial in this section that walks you through it. I used it myself. Very easy. Take care to follow the instructions, cuz once you wipe your recovery you need to replace it. G2x doesn't make a good brick, lol. Good luck

Moved to proper forum.

You can fix permissions from cwm, and that shouldn't encounter permission issues. It's under the Advanced menu.

Cant boot up To clockword recovory?

Im kinda new to this guy so plz bare with me:/. Ive rooted my phone before by super one click, and also installed a app called "Absolute System Root Tools" and couple rooted apps, n from absolute app i would click "Reboot into recovery" and of course would take me to that orang android. But now that i try doing it by holding down volume and power. Nothing happens :/, all its been doing its factoring reset. Even if i do it from the absolute app, nothing happens just restarts normal. Can some one help me out here what i need to reboot to recovory, would appreciate it and plz bare with me bearly getting into this.
No worries. I was there last week
If you have CWM already installed, you should be able to just HOLD power + volume down at the same time until the boot screen changes from LG > ANDROID and some icons (then you can let go of both buttons. Try that.
Did you flash CWM properly through the NVFLASH tools? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056847
Or did you just install CWM the soft way through an app in the OS while it was running like you would through Rom Manager? For Tegra devices this isn't a proper recovery flash and will not work correctly. Recovery flash needs to be done through NVFLASH.
Yeah I got ityalready guys, took me all night till 8am to figuered it out and finally installed my first rom thanks for the help by the way.

[Q] Please Help. I Bricked My Samsung Prevail.

Please someone help! I had my girlfriends phone rooted for not even 24 hours and after I tryed to flash cwm recovery via Rom Manager (now know that was a mistake) the phone rebooted and thats all she wrote, nothing but black. Now my girl is mad at me and I dont have the heart to tell her that her new phone is now a paper weight.
1. I'm not sure this is the right place to ask this question.
2.can u be more ellaborative??? like what exactly happened so the phone bricked...just rebooting after flashing dosent brick the phone..
3. what all u tried....
Sorry about that... I rooted my Prevail using Odin, once I got root I went and installed Rom manager. After I opened Rom Manager I went and downloaded ClockworkMod Recovery via Rom Manager, It gave me a choice of devices to choose from and one of the options included other so I chose that one. When it was done downloading it asked if I wanted to install and reboot and I said yes. It shut down and since then I cant get it to do anything.

you will have to put the phone in download mode and re odin it, using boot, phone, and pda, that will fix the problem.
I can't get the phone to do anything, nothing but black.
You shall be able to do it, holding volume up + middle button + power button, than you can reflash it with odin again. The problem if you are not able to enter download mode can be, that you have destroyed bootloader, this can be fixed only in samsung service

Clockwork Recovery Won't Boot

Ok, so I did my first root last night with my G2x and flashed CM7 onto it using the instructions here for GB. The process didn't seem to go through at first because it kind of froze for awhile, but when I took out the battery and put it back in it loaded up. (I understand I may have made a mistake here.)
I thought all was good but then I tried to boot up Clockwork recovery to flash the GAPPs zip and everytime I tried it wouldn't go through the screens it is supposed to.
I'd hold the down volume and power buttons and the first LG (white) would show. Then it would bring up a cyan colored horizontal loading bar under the LG. I continue to hold the buttons hoping to see the cyan LG but then screen changes to a box with an orange arrow pointing to an android logo. There is a loading bar under this as well. If I let go here it loads up CM7 but if I continue holding on it takes me to the S/W screen.
I've tried this multiple times but I've kinda given up. I even tried individually installing the apks from the GAPPS zip but only a few of them successfully installed.
At a loss .Please let me know what I can do.
Let me guess. You flashed CWM via ROM manager?
Follow he guide here and let us know how it goes:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056847
Also, before you install the ROM use the wipe tool in my sig.
I appreciate the response but I did use that thread to flash it.

When it get to the point where "the cyan colored horizontal loading bar" let go of the volume and power button and see if it boots into CWM.
Ok, I tried that and it went to that android logo screen again. Then it went to a black screen and then the cyan LG logo screen. From there it booted up CM7.
I just noticed when I try to boot into Clockwork it erases everything I added to it including contacts and apps I installed.

Try rooting process all over again... just make sure battery have plenty of charge and make sure during any of the process there's no interruptions... let us know what happen after that...

I will unroot and try again. A few questions though:
I'm reading and it looks like I need to be able to boot into CWR to be able to unroot...is using ROM Manager a safe alternative?
And also, while I followed the instructions for flashing through the thread you provided last time, I read that I may need to erase/wipe certain types of data before I do so to avoid the market problems. Can someone provide me information on that?
I just want to make sure I do this right a second time.

No need to unroot... as long as your computer still detect your phone... just flash everything again... I mean since you want to root... I would just do all the rooting process again... and reflash clock work... don't use rom manager to flash clockwork mod...
Or
And since you can't get into clockwork... you can just try flashing clockwork again... no rom manager

Sweet, so I reflashed CWR and CM7 and I got my contacts back and several other minor issues were corrected.
I am experiencing a new problem now though. Whenever I try to download from the market it tells me "[App name] could not be downloaded due to an error."
What can be done to fix this?

Try flashing Google apps again. Cm7 doesn't include them in their builds.

Rom Manager is not a safe alternative. Stay with Nvidia ClockworkMod.
Its should be a blue lg logo when you have to let go of the buttons.

Every time before you re- flash a rom I would recommend doing a data/factory reset within clockwork recovery. then Wipe your cache. And then even a wipe of the dalvic cache under advanced settings. Then flash the rom then gapps. Then reboot. Its called doing a clean install. It just makes everything smoother when re- flashing. And if your apps ever not update like that again just fix the permissions in clockworkmod then reboot. It usually fixes it. And i don't recommend flashing directly from the rom manager. Do it from recovery instead. Hope this helps.

Rocking stock CM 7.2.0-RC1
Similar issue, totally different outcome...
Ladies and Gentlemen (and low-lifes),
I have found myself in a similar situation, after recently flashing a ROM, to where I am now unable to boot into CW Recovery. The ROM flashed is working fine but when I attempt to boot into recovery I get a black screen and it never progresses beyond that. I have attempted to reflash of course via NVFlasher and from all indications it's been a successful flash. That said, the results remain the same... black screen.
FYI: I have not yet attempted to flash back to Stock Recovery.
•Current Rom - Owain's Domination v77 (a great ROM by the way)
•Current kernel - Harsh's 3.0.32
•Used Nullifier to prep device for ROM install (as I have been doing for sometime now)
If anyone has any experience w/this issue or any advice going forward I would greatly appreciate it.
UPDATE: (that was fast huh?) .................................................................................................................................................................................................
So I went ahead and flashed the Stock Recovery, tested and got access. I then flashed CWM 5.0.2.0 and to my delight was able to see the CWM console. I let go of the power and volume down buttons and the phone rebooted. Now the ROM will not boot, just sits in a forever cycle on the splash screen and the results continue to be the same as recently mentioned for attempting to get into the freshly flashed recovery.

Ok, I will bring my concerns to an end now. I forced CWM to remain in play by not letting go of the power and vol. down buttons then using my thumb to see if I could stroll through options in CWM. Once I accessed a few it remain stable. I nullified and re-flashed my ROM and all seems ok in my personal corner of the universe. I am now able to boot into CWM without issue.

LG Optimus 2x HELP!!

Hi all,
Long time reader, first time poster.
I have a rooted LG 2x. I installed Clockworkmod from the market and installed it.
Following some guides - to boot into recover(I wanted to backup my system) I pushed Vol Down + Power, and it didnt boot into recovery.. INSTEAD.. it seems to have booted as if its factory new..!? WTF.
I checked the internal/ext SD card and the memory usage is the same.
What do I do??? I just want my old stuff back
To add to it,
I can see the folders/data in the folders through a file explorer, but for some reason it doesnt have the apps and settings?! Anyone help please?? Not sure what to do.
EDIT - Im missing all my messages as well from the inbox.. All I see are the OLD ones from the simcard..
Hopefully you guru's can help.. cos im going nuts!!!
You say you installed Clockworkmod from market and just rooted the device... You seem to have missed to install recovery and what you installed is the ROM manager and not the ROM itself, hence pressing the recovery button combo, resets the device...

Thanks guys for your replies.
my phone was already rooted.. super1click, ages ago.
I just downloaded clockwork through google market on my phone.
I read that pushing the vol down + power brings up a menu, where you can CHOOSE to have your handset wiped etc, but i didnt get it. I'm in New zealand.
Anyway, I have lost all my messages.. Im just going to flash it with CM7. Im using clockworkmod to download 7.1.0RC1 right now. I have backed up my data(or whats left of it through clockworkmod.
I will give it a go soon I guess.
So i installed cm7, and im getting the boot loop thing.
Trying to work that out. Tips?
Got CWM to recover. back to square one I guess.
I have read so many guides on how to install CM7 that im so confused now.
Can I use CWM to install CM7??

Stuck in Reboot

So I have a major problem. And I'm probably a moron. This is the first time I've ever gone to flash to a custom rom on this phone.EDIT: I have flashed custom roms multiple times on past phones but never on android. I unlocked (EDIT: ROOTED) it several months ago using ACE kit and worked perfectly. I finally decided I was ready to go to a custom Rom. I downloaded Rom Manager by clockwork mod and paid for the premium version. My phone isn't connecting to my laptop and isn't able to synce. I think it may be my USB cord, but that's what caused me to flash through Rom Manager. I downloaded the ClearDroid Mod, Backed up my phone using Titanium Backup, then went back into Rom Manager and clicked begin flash to new rom or whatever it said. It went through everything and said it was a success. PHone restarts into white HTC screen. Then changes to Black HTC screen with quietly brilliant underneath. It sits there for a few minutes then quietly brilliant "rewrites" itself underneath. I have no clue what to do and obviously am way over my head. I hope I can get help.
Thank you in advance.
This is just a boot loop. One of the reason why I don't use rom manager. Any who. Pull the battery. Put it back in and boot phone up with volume down and power pressed simultaneously. You should see a white screen. This is the boat loader. Scroll down to recovery. In recovery wipe data/cache/dalvik. Then select install from SD. And choose your rom
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA
Did as you said. Didn't work. Still the same problem. I wiped everything, which was 2 options, wipe cache, and wipe user data. I think selected install from SD, navigated into the clockword folder in my card until I found the Cleardroid Rom. It installed again (succefully according to the screen) and I went and selected reboot. And back to same problem. I probably should have backed up my current rom shouldn't I?
Live and learn. The first boot does take the longest, give it a few minutes. But if it doesn't boot then it could have been. Bad download. What you can do is download the from again or a differentrom on your PC. Then in clockwork mount the SD card and transfer it over or you can use an adapter which ever is easier

Thanks! I was actually in the process of installing another ROM when you responded. I remember reading other threads and put a few pieces together. Seems as though it worked. Thanks for your help though.
One last question. Can I just install ROMs through that method everytime? As in start in bootloader, enter recovery, and install that way?
Yup, that's how I do it. I prefer to manually wipe and install roms. Many roms come with an advance power menu so its even easier as they have an option to boot straight into recovery.
