Stuck in Reboot - HTC Inspire 4G

So I have a major problem. And I'm probably a moron. This is the first time I've ever gone to flash to a custom rom on this phone.EDIT: I have flashed custom roms multiple times on past phones but never on android. I unlocked (EDIT: ROOTED) it several months ago using ACE kit and worked perfectly. I finally decided I was ready to go to a custom Rom. I downloaded Rom Manager by clockwork mod and paid for the premium version. My phone isn't connecting to my laptop and isn't able to synce. I think it may be my USB cord, but that's what caused me to flash through Rom Manager. I downloaded the ClearDroid Mod, Backed up my phone using Titanium Backup, then went back into Rom Manager and clicked begin flash to new rom or whatever it said. It went through everything and said it was a success. PHone restarts into white HTC screen. Then changes to Black HTC screen with quietly brilliant underneath. It sits there for a few minutes then quietly brilliant "rewrites" itself underneath. I have no clue what to do and obviously am way over my head. I hope I can get help.
Thank you in advance.

This is just a boot loop. One of the reason why I don't use rom manager. Any who. Pull the battery. Put it back in and boot phone up with volume down and power pressed simultaneously. You should see a white screen. This is the boat loader. Scroll down to recovery. In recovery wipe data/cache/dalvik. Then select install from SD. And choose your rom

Did as you said. Didn't work. Still the same problem. I wiped everything, which was 2 options, wipe cache, and wipe user data. I think selected install from SD, navigated into the clockword folder in my card until I found the Cleardroid Rom. It installed again (succefully according to the screen) and I went and selected reboot. And back to same problem. I probably should have backed up my current rom shouldn't I?

Live and learn. The first boot does take the longest, give it a few minutes. But if it doesn't boot then it could have been. Bad download. What you can do is download the from again or a differentrom on your PC. Then in clockwork mount the SD card and transfer it over or you can use an adapter which ever is easier

Thanks! I was actually in the process of installing another ROM when you responded. I remember reading other threads and put a few pieces together. Seems as though it worked. Thanks for your help though.
One last question. Can I just install ROMs through that method everytime? As in start in bootloader, enter recovery, and install that way?

Yup, that's how I do it. I prefer to manually wipe and install roms. Many roms come with an advance power menu so its even easier as they have an option to boot straight into recovery.

[Q] Rooted HTC Inspire, Booting to CWM Recovery gives WHITE HTC screen and hangs

I searched and did not find anything for the Inspire with this issue...
Not a n00b when it comes to flashing ROMs to various hardware, Tilt, Tilt 2, Nook Color and now my new HTC inspire..
I used the "One click" root process for the phone, and everything completed with no errors.
I am S-Off, and Eng S-Off as well.
I have ROM Manager installed (Latest from Market) as well as the latest CWM installed on the phone.
When I attempt to boot into Recovery, whether by using the Volume Down/Power and choosing recovery, or selecting it from ROM Manager, the phone restarts and sticks at the white HTC screen.
I have been unable to find a fix for this.
I know I am running the rooted stock ROM that the single click installs, as I am able to use it with no issues and install anything I want, etc..
Help?
Please post in the right section general. And there is a thread in there thats all about problem like this.
try about 10+ threads.
Sounds like you need to reflash your recovery. Turn your phone off completely, plug it in and seee if that brings up recovery.

Then my search did not bring up anything on the Inspire... Only on the Hero, et al...
I will go search, again.
Links to some of the common threads would be quite helpful in case search fails me again.
Did you try re flashing recovery? adb reboot recovery?
I believe that what you see happening on my phone is a soft brick.
This is NOT the case. The phone reboots into Android just fine, if I remove the battery and reseat it.
It ONLY hangs at the White HTC screen when trying to do Recovery... That is the only issue I am encountering.

Yes. Several times. Even so far as restoring the stock recovery to the device.

"An error occurred while flashing your recovery." when trying to flash 2.5.1.4
When I try to reflash the 3.0.2.5 it says it flashed just fine, but does so immediately. It DOES get SuperUser permission when it tries.
Got it to 3.0.0.5 and it boots recovery now.
Wonder if 3.0.2.5 has issues..
TY all for the help.
baaa he took 2.5.1.3 off of there..

[Q] Inspire stuck at HTC splash screen after loading new theme Rooted/Rom'd

Tonight I successfully rooted my phone using bubby's method and installed the Revolution ROM. I had no issues so figured I'd continue with a custom theme which was provided in this post .
I simply, copied the Desolution_1.2.2.zip to the root of the SD card. Started up in recovery mode using Clockwork and installed zip from SD Card. Now, I'm stuck at the HTC splash screen and I can't turn the phone off or bring up CWR.
Is the problem I'm having also known as black screened? Should I be using these posts as resolutions?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12844405&postcount=4
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1019868
Additionally, I pressed vol up/down +power to do a hard reset but the phone is not loading in recovery. Pressing power + vol down is not loading bootloader either. Sorry if I'm not using the right terminology, I'm new to this.
Pull the battery, reboot to Clockwork(power+vol dn, select recovery w/ pwr button after it goes through the PD98 checks), wipe data-factory reset and reflash your rom. If that get's you back up and running, nandroid your config then try again. If it fails again, you can restore from nandroid and get with the dev about your issue.
You might also wanna re-dl that zip prior to trying again as it may be corrupt
Don't forget to always check the compatibilty of the theme with the Rom. Some roms and themes don't play well together.

Thank you for the response.
However, after removing/replacing the battery I am unable to access clockwork by holding vol down and the power button. It just boots up to the htc screen.
Is it about time to use the Ace hackkit? If so can someone direct me to the manual? I believe v11 is the most current version.
Quick update. I am able to access hboot by removing the battery and holding vol down on startup. However, I am unable to scroll down to recovery, it automatically starts searching for PD98DIAG.zip file. At the end it asks if I want to update and I've just been saying no. Once the device reboots it goes straight back to the HTC splash screen. I try to repeat the process to access recovery but once again I'm unable to scroll down to recovery.
You have to get the PD98 off your sd card then it will let you select recovery.
Thanks, I went ahead and did that. Now I'm able to access recovery. Looking up steps on what to do now. Heh
I flashed the revolution ROM again and now I'm back up and running. Not sure what it was about that theme that messed everything up but I'm staying far away from it now. Thanks to everyone who helped
need help asap
okay so i have the same problume cant get into recovery mode and i get the htc splash screen, any help will be gr8 thanks in advance

If I am not wrong, buby´s method uses a froyo RUU, so if your phone was shipped with Gingerbread, then you have messed your bootloader....you need to fix that.

Have you re-downloaded the v9 kernel, there were issues with the earlier version (at least there was on this device).
You could try to download and re-flash whatever was the previous (old) kernel.

For getting to recovery try installing android sdk and using adb reboot recovery
From there you can put another rom in the sd card. Wipe all and install a new one, which includes a new kernel inside. (like all of them)
I was stuck at the bootloader after trying to install a corrupt radio. I could get into recovery but it only offered yes or no for the corrupt file.
I removed SD card and pulled battery and restarted, i was then was able to get into recovery and do a wipe and it then booted fine.

[Q] Really bricked?

I'm a complete n00b at rooting and hacking on Android and the HTC Inspire is the first Android phone I've ever had. I've searched the forum and tried loading PD98IMG.zip files, using the HBOOT recovery, but I'm still having a nasty problem with my Inspire 4G. I'd really like any help if I can get it - I think I've been sweating bullets for the last 2 hours...
Here's the rundown of what happened:
I rooted my Inspire 4G this morning using the Ace Hack Kit and everything was working fine until I tried CyanogenMod7. After that, I somehow managed to get it all working again, but didn't end up liking Cyanogen because various programs (such as Android Market) kept crashing. I switched to the TPC Inspire 4G ROM, and everything was peachy again. However, I wanted to try and get the completely stock version of the Inspire ROM, and loaded that onto the phone. I noticed that it was missing the ROMmanager, so I ran Ace Hack Kit again. This is where the huge problem happened. While reloading the older version of the ROM (I think it was doing the radio), everything went black on the phone screen, and stayed that way. The terminal screen (I'm running OS X) didn't show any progress, so I rebooted the phone. Now, the phone starts up with the white HTC screen, then fades to black and stays that way. You can tell the screen is on because the backlight is there, but otherwise, I'm stuck.
I'm currently trying to re-run the Ace Hack Kit, but the terminal says that the device is offline, then sits at < waiting for device >. I've tried re-flashing to the original HTC ROM from the website, but it doesn't detect that the device is even attached to the computer.
If you can help, that would be great! I've had this phone for 3 days, and I'm freaking out that I've just destroyed it.
Just an update - I tried a hard reset (power + vol up + vol down) and I get the green LED on, and the phone vibrates 3 times, then it sits there with the green LED indicator and nothing happening to the screen.
Do a search for un-brick. I dont have an Inspire, but on my Infuse there are a few different ways to return to stock and also to un brick. And once you get it fixed calm down on all the rom switching maybe? I mean u said 3 days and you were flippin through em then attempted a stock rom then another Ace Hack. My advice is slow down, take a deep breath and read the forums. Do this before you make moves. Good luck buddy.

Did you not backup, b4 you tried flashing another rom? If u did, just hold ur volume down button and hit ur power button... should go into bootloader (hboot). Once there select the recover option. If you havent backed up, I belive theres a recovery you can download. I just had that same problem while trying to get to hboot, was just a user error.... take ur time and dont worry, I dont belive ur fully bricked.

Your mistake was trying to root again once you saw rom manager was missing. Rom manager is an app you can download from the market. Not every dev includes it in their roms. Go back to the hack kit thread, look in the op, and join his irc. He will help you.

Unfortunately, I did not do a backup - I'll try and look for another recovery ROM. Did you have any trouble with the HBOOT not finding the PD98DIAG.zip file? It seems like HBOOT is not seeing the PD98IMG file either... I have the PD98IMG zip file in the root directory of my SD card too.
Thanks for the support - I'll need it...

Thanks - I talked with attn1, who wrote the hack kit, and he walked me through the process. Basically, I had to get the stock version of the PD98IMG.zip, which he provided.
Then, I followed the following steps (all typing is in terminal (I'm on Mac OS X):
1. Type: fastboot oem rebootRUU
2. The Inspire 4G went to a black screen with a chrome HTC logo.
3. Type: fastboot erase cache
4. Once that completes (the message says: erasing 'cache'... OKAY), type: fastboot flash zip PD98IMG.zip
5. That command flashes the Inspire 4G with the stock ROM. The phone will display the chrome HTC logo and a progress bar. Once it completes IN THE TERMINAL with the status OKAY, then type: fastboot reboot
6. Voila! HTC Inspire 4G is back to working condition. This method returned the phone back to stock mode, which means if you want to install custom ROMs and such again, you'll need to root it. Make sure to set the USB debugging on, and Connect to PC to Charging Only.
Thanks, attn1! Hope this will help others who get into this problem case.
Get the official ruu from htc. After that don't update and use simple root, this is better since if you brick it again you can go to fast boot and flash it back to inspire 4g rooted

I had this same problem (goes black and vibrates 3 times- except with a orange blinking light) before.
To fix it:
1. Completely shut down, remove the battery, and put a timer on for 10 minutes
2. Remove your microSD card from your phone, and put it in a card adapter for your computer
3. Put a ROM installer .zip on your microSD.
4. After 10 minutes is up, put your microSD in your phone, and turn it on
5. Go into H-BOOT, and select boot to recovery
6. Install by selecting the .zip let it do its thing
Hope that helped!

Clockwork Recovery Won't Boot

Ok, so I did my first root last night with my G2x and flashed CM7 onto it using the instructions here for GB. The process didn't seem to go through at first because it kind of froze for awhile, but when I took out the battery and put it back in it loaded up. (I understand I may have made a mistake here.)
I thought all was good but then I tried to boot up Clockwork recovery to flash the GAPPs zip and everytime I tried it wouldn't go through the screens it is supposed to.
I'd hold the down volume and power buttons and the first LG (white) would show. Then it would bring up a cyan colored horizontal loading bar under the LG. I continue to hold the buttons hoping to see the cyan LG but then screen changes to a box with an orange arrow pointing to an android logo. There is a loading bar under this as well. If I let go here it loads up CM7 but if I continue holding on it takes me to the S/W screen.
I've tried this multiple times but I've kinda given up. I even tried individually installing the apks from the GAPPS zip but only a few of them successfully installed.
At a loss .Please let me know what I can do.
Let me guess. You flashed CWM via ROM manager?
Follow he guide here and let us know how it goes:

Also, before you install the ROM use the wipe tool in my sig.
I appreciate the response but I did use that thread to flash it.

When it get to the point where "the cyan colored horizontal loading bar" let go of the volume and power button and see if it boots into CWM.
Ok, I tried that and it went to that android logo screen again. Then it went to a black screen and then the cyan LG logo screen. From there it booted up CM7.
I just noticed when I try to boot into Clockwork it erases everything I added to it including contacts and apps I installed.

I will unroot and try again. A few questions though:
I'm reading and it looks like I need to be able to boot into CWR to be able to unroot...is using ROM Manager a safe alternative?
And also, while I followed the instructions for flashing through the thread you provided last time, I read that I may need to erase/wipe certain types of data before I do so to avoid the market problems. Can someone provide me information on that?
I just want to make sure I do this right a second time.

No need to unroot... as long as your computer still detect your phone... just flash everything again... I mean since you want to root... I would just do all the rooting process again... and reflash clock work... don't use rom manager to flash clockwork mod...
Or
And since you can't get into clockwork... you can just try flashing clockwork again... no rom manager

Sweet, so I reflashed CWR and CM7 and I got my contacts back and several other minor issues were corrected.
I am experiencing a new problem now though. Whenever I try to download from the market it tells me "[App name] could not be downloaded due to an error."
What can be done to fix this?

Rom Manager is not a safe alternative. Stay with Nvidia ClockworkMod.
Its should be a blue lg logo when you have to let go of the buttons.

Every time before you re- flash a rom I would recommend doing a data/factory reset within clockwork recovery. then Wipe your cache. And then even a wipe of the dalvic cache under advanced settings. Then flash the rom then gapps. Then reboot. Its called doing a clean install. It just makes everything smoother when re- flashing. And if your apps ever not update like that again just fix the permissions in clockworkmod then reboot. It usually fixes it. And i don't recommend flashing directly from the rom manager. Do it from recovery instead. Hope this helps.

Rocking stock CM 7.2.0-RC1
Similar issue, totally different outcome...
Ladies and Gentlemen (and low-lifes),
I have found myself in a similar situation, after recently flashing a ROM, to where I am now unable to boot into CW Recovery. The ROM flashed is working fine but when I attempt to boot into recovery I get a black screen and it never progresses beyond that. I have attempted to reflash of course via NVFlasher and from all indications it's been a successful flash. That said, the results remain the same... black screen.
FYI: I have not yet attempted to flash back to Stock Recovery.
•Current Rom - Owain's Domination v77 (a great ROM by the way)
•Current kernel - Harsh's 3.0.32
•Used Nullifier to prep device for ROM install (as I have been doing for sometime now)
If anyone has any experience w/this issue or any advice going forward I would greatly appreciate it.
UPDATE: (that was fast huh?) .................................................................................................................................................................................................
So I went ahead and flashed the Stock Recovery, tested and got access. I then flashed CWM 5.0.2.0 and to my delight was able to see the CWM console. I let go of the power and volume down buttons and the phone rebooted. Now the ROM will not boot, just sits in a forever cycle on the splash screen and the results continue to be the same as recently mentioned for attempting to get into the freshly flashed recovery.

Ok, I will bring my concerns to an end now. I forced CWM to remain in play by not letting go of the power and vol. down buttons then using my thumb to see if I could stroll through options in CWM. Once I accessed a few it remain stable. I nullified and re-flashed my ROM and all seems ok in my personal corner of the universe. I am now able to boot into CWM without issue.
