Can you notice a speed difference after you updated to 2.2? I am about to get a galaxy showcase and I am trying to decide whether or not to use 2.1 w/ lagfix or update to 2.2. I have been using 2.1 w/ htc hero for some time and have found several work arounds to speed it up like Link2SD which seems to move more apps to SD than 2.2.

I use 2.2 with voodoo and its great.

Voodoo lag-fix or voodoo kernel? I am trying to get some knowledge of what I need to do before I get the galaxy showcase. I have found that super one click will root, but after that I am unsure what to do after the 2.2 upgrade.
thanks for input.

you have to have a voodoo enabled kernel before you can turn on lagfix, which is a feature of voodoo kernels. our just changes the file system from rfs to ext4. check or the stickies, if you didn't already. fortunately most of this information is all here but its spread out between the mesmerize and fascinate fora and subfora

after flashing 2.2 you'll need to odin a recovery. honestly with 2.3 ports for our phones that are working but for mms, 2.2 is useless.

Thanks for the replies. I have received my Galaxy Showcase and have rooted and installing Link2SD. Another question, if I upgrade with just root (no voodoo installed) will I have to unroot before upgrade to 2.2? If not will I still have root after the upgrade to 2.2?

So the galaxy u just got is running 2.1? There is no reason root 2.1 and then upgrade to 2.2 when u do the 2.2 upgrade it takes root away. I would say upgrade to 2.2 using kies mini on CS website. After the update use super one click to root.. if ya want voodoo then u will need to install cwm and set up recovery then flash the voodoo for 2.2.
Currently I'm running 2.2 with voodoo and so far no issues.

Custom rom vs att official update

I installed a 2.2 custom rom, now att sent me a txt that there is an update for my phone, should I update?, will it brick my phone?
There's 300000000 other threads about this. For the majority if your not completely stock att will tell you to update

Do not run an update while on a 2.2 custom rom. It is most likely not the froyo update and rather a 2.1 tweak. If you tried it probably would not take, if it did it would probably screw up your phone. If you really want to try the update I would do a odin flash back to stock. If you do not know what odin is you can find it in the development section

I wouldn't update if I were you since it isn't 2.2 yet. You'll end up just installing a custom ROM again.

Yes, but not with Superoneclick as it doesn't work with the update from LG. Assuming you have Clockwork Mod Recovery through NVflash, (great instructions http://www.techofweb.com/technology/flashing-cwm-recovery-g2x.html , simply flash a pre-rooted version of this update from xboarder54 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179748
1 click nvflash app to install clock work .
download rooted 2.33 rom or nandriod backup and flash
in clock work.
works fine..

trying to restore LG-P999-V10f/--i get--MD5 mismatch while trying to unroot. I already restored to a nandroid running 2.2 can I just run the LG update or must I unroot in order to update baseband? Will I be able to unroot if I update using LG (I have DW model). Help please.
Funny thing is I have been with Android since the G1. I have yet to root any of my android phones. I know, I'm a noob. I'm trying to learn how to root my G2x recently but want to make sure I find something solid so my phone will work 100% or close to that. Now that we have GB, I would assume the devs are updating their ROMs so I'm reading up to see what's the new or hot ROM for the G2x. If anyone can point me in the right direction or have some time to school this noob - I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

[Q] Plain G2x AOSP rom?????

Hi, I am getting my G2x next Friday and of coarse, gonna be rooting it as soon as I have it. But I want a plain 2.3.3 OTA rooted rom. No fancy names, EagleBlood, WeaponX and so on.. where or which one can I get? That has everything stock so I can remove and play with. Thank you.

is this the official ota, or just a leak before ota happend? latest but rooted? just want to get my answers before my phone gets here and because i dont like all that much tweaking of a rom or adding stuff to it just like i noticed with the xboarder link he added that host file adblock, can that just be uninstalled and be back to normal?

There is no adblock. It's an optional add on. It is the official OTA. He just slimmed it down and made it faster. No UI tweaks, or graphical tweaks of any kind
Yeah I was using xboarders tweeked version and it was great Super stable and great battery life no real issues. The completly stock one is good to but the tweek is better. It was my favorite till I installed eaglesblood 1.0.8 that is the best ROM ever made great everything it has a few issues but they are not specific to that ROM no one has figured out A2DP yet to my knowledge. I'm sure they will soon though. I think everyone should use eaglesblood.
Here. This is the OTA 2.3.3 update. It is rooted but that's pretty much it. Still has all the T-Mobile blaotware, etc. Flash it via clockworkmod recovery.

Yea this is the same as the OTA from July/August, its just already rooted. Its not the leaked version from back in April or May or whenever that was. Right now this is the easiest (maybe the only?) way to have rooted 2.3.3 stock rom. You have to use nvflash (check development section for easy-to-use nvflash tool) to flash clockworkmod recovery and then you can boot into recovery and flash this zip.
And note that this zip will not touch your baseband.
Here's a link to the nvflash recovery flasher

Check about phone in the settings when you get it, if your baseband is the march one then you need to run the lg update tool to get the new one.
No other way to get it, and it's a huge improvement.

If you flash a rooted room via clockwork it'll be fine. The official update can't be rooted but nothing can stop you from installing a completely new, rooted rom.

[Q] After 2.3.5 Gingerbread updated firmware... how to root???

I'm absolutely happy with the 2.3.5 BUT i some how lost access to my SuperUser.. Does anyone know what additional software to root 2.3.5 gingerbread for Samsung Infuse? I would deeply appreciate the help
You can't root 2.3.5
As far as I know, the only way you can root 2.3.5 at the moment is to install JordanElliott's 2.3.5 rom (UCKJ1). You'll need clockworkmod rom manager to flash the rom and then the stock kernal to fix the wifi. It was relatively painless.

I haven't seen anything about an official release. The latest leak makes it seem like we are really close though since it includes a bootloader.
I'm sure when the sources are released and the real update is out everyone will know

A. look for threads with titles about the firmware toy are running, b. look for threads about issues rooting, c. How are you running 2.3.5? Did you flash it? Did it get pushed to your phone? Did you buy it like that? Did you buy it new?
If you flashed it with Odin and can't figure this out or find the answer i'm in awe, the answer is in every leak thread so far but the question keeps coming up.
Use SuperOneClick v2.2 and use zergRush as the exploit.

OK I saw the video.
1. This is not an official update.
2. This is a leaked firmware.
3. Try using super one click on a different PC.

You can flash a rooted version (such as the CWM Deodexed rooted release in Development), or you can just flash su directly. I would avoid flashing a full EP4D Odin for now because we don't have a dump of the CDMA modem, so you would be overwriting the CDMA modem with an older version by using the Odin.
Flashing imoseyon's kernel from Rootzwiki would also give you root, as well as lagfix and some other extras, but be aware that it is based on a slightly older kernel. I haven't had any problems with it yet, but it's something to be aware of.
