Where is the T-Mobile Sensation marketing? - HTC Sensation

Seriously! Why is the only phone that T-Mobile attempts to market, the myTouch? Considering what this phone is capable of, why isn't T-Mobile marketing it like they should. You see commercials and hear thousands of things about Sprint's Evo 4G or Sprint's Evo 3D or Verizon's Droid X2 or Verizon's Thunderbolt or AT&T's Inspire.....but here T-Mobile has this powerhouse of a phone and...nothing.....
Do they want to fail at everything besides the myTouch?

http://www.tmonews.com/2011/06/can-someone-please-tell-me-where-the-htc-sensation-4g-marketing-is/

It's the same with the g2x. No advertising at all. I think it has to do with t mobile being bought by at&t.

I would even be satisfied with something as simple as a banner on their website advertising the phone....but not even that. What gives?

The commercial you've seen is an HTC commercial. They may be promoting the phone but T-Mobile is doing nothing.

Deutsche Telekom has been desperate to get rid of T-Mobile USA for years, so they're probably making sure they do nothing to make the unit appear feasible without a merger.

I've seen a ****-ton of adds online, facebook, youtube. And it seems like on every tv station. The one with the little girl singing especially, it comes on like at least 4 or 5 times a day. Watching various channels in NYC and North Jersey
Edit: Perhaps they have a deal with HTC to market it in some places and them in others?
Also T Mo has been in the red financially for years now I believe. At least T Mo USA has. Maybe they really do need ATT to buy them up.

I have not seen any TV commercials for the Sensation. Guess they are not aiming for my demographic LOL none on ESPN
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App

yea i've seen a bunch of ads on websites and that one commercial with the girl a bunch of times actually

The commercial with the little girl is an HTC comercial, their always do commercials for their phones. I haven't seen one yet on TV from T-Mobile.

The commercial and the ads that you guys are seeing are all HTC. My questions is, what is T-Mobile doing to advertise this monster of a phone? I went to T-Mobile's website the day it was released to see if it was up and nothing. I think they eventually posted it the next day or 2....maybe T-Mobile needs to be bought out....

I watch ESPN, IFC, Sundance Channel and I have definitely seen it on IFC not sure where I saw it the other times.
I think that we are missing the fact that they are saturating facebook and google with ads. New Media has changed everything from running for president to bullying. Why wouldn't it change selling cell phones and service as well? Google is the must successful company in history because it's ads are more efficient and omnipresent and harder to ignore than a 30 second spot that's easily ignored or muted.
T Mo is advertising like a company of the future, not a company of now.
I don't remember ever having seen a thunderbolt commercial and U never remembered what carrier droid was on. I thought it was an ad for android os for the longest time... Before I got a mt3gs.
But because of online ads I got a Sensation on launch day.

@ the bolded. When and where have see T-Mobile advertise anything?....besides its myTouch phones...

I was asking myself the same question recently. I passed by a T-Mobile store on the way to work the other day and all I see is posters and banners promoting the SideKick. I think this was on tuesday. It's a shame really.
I thought for a second that maybe it had to deal with some of the recent issues some of us have been having. Just a thought. Or maybe the phone just doesn't need the advertising and it's selling on its own.

Maybe once the OTAs for the Sensy and G2x go out, and all their respective issues are sorted, tmo will start marketing it. The screen unresponsivness and data latency issues are completely unacceptable for anyone other than us uber technophiles. If the mass market got a hold of this phone, it's pre-OTA issues would make this phone's rep crash and burn like the number 3 at Daytona Beach.

HTC will keep bootloaders open

HTC is now going to keep thier bootloaders unlocked they just released on Facebook
""There has been overwhelmingly customer feedback that people want access to open bootloaders on HTC phones. I want you to know that we've listened. Exactly. I think the roles have reversed in that department at this point. Verizon has invested too much into Android (especially with the DROID line) to let something like that which only affects the hacking community lower their product line. It would be product suicide for them based on their current standings.

HTC doesn't want to get the same bad rep Moto does for their locked phones (before you jumpt to conclusions that no one cares except a small minority on this, hear me out because it's far more than that). I'm not sure how it is for everyone else, but if you happen to be known among your friends and family as being the "computer expert," they tend to ask you what you would want to buy yourself. The reaction of modders against HTC is probably something they don't want just for the bad PR and referrals they will get. I stopped telling friends/family to buy Moto when they screwed everyone and HTC when they started to lock things down (except for ones not locked).
Word of mouth is what made Android popular to begin with and is far more powerful than any PR campaign (just look at Apple fans and how much they preach their iCrap and look how it works). HTC with from an unknown company themselves to a huge phone maker with more or less with google's blessing (and google as far as I know wants you to mod your phone).
Moto wasn't exactly doing awesome before android, but it was a far larger company than HTC was. HTC unlike moto doesnt have a history of really being arrogant, not listening to customers and assuming that if they keep releasing the same thing a billion times with small changes, it will still sell like it did before (the razr). Moto shoots themselves in the foot constantly and will continue to do so. They're lucky they built the first droid or they would most likely be dead in the water as a company.
A locked down android phone isn't much better than an iphone and sort of defeats the purpose of android to begin with. "Rooting your android" isn't exactly a common thing yet for people to know about, but looking at some of the clueless people (i mean that in the best of ways, not so much of an insult) that wander into xda lately, it's obviously becoming more so than ever before. If you tell someone you "rooted" your android phone they might not know what you mean, but if you use the very bad analogy that you "jailbroke it," far more people will get what you mean even if it isn't exactly correct. Point is, rooting will finally catch on in the mainstream world soon enough (I mean it took like a year for the local news here to "discover" angry birds, lol [they just did a news broadcast on it the other way sadly]).
Although no one can exactly say for sure, but I am sure HTC employees hang around on xda (at least some developers) and review third party development of their phones for future things to incorporate or remove from them (as well as free beta testing of obviously broken leaks). It would be dumb for them not to do so when it's all right there for them. If they lock it down, they lose something they would have to go and pay for themselves and might also be biased data. Anyways you cant assume that "leaks" are all just about altruism. The fact something gets leaked without any recourse would imply it was leaked most likely with approval. Same thing with the so called "insiders" that post on blogs about things that would look questionable to talk about from a corporate standpoint; It's sort of like a form of "astroturfing" only in a better way than what most companies do (since it's actually useful).
Moto could take a few cues from outside development, since obviously they have no clue how to develop a framework on their phones (looking at moto blur). Not saying Sense is perfect, but it could be far far worse.
hip hip hooray

any idea how sprints 3g is compared to tmo's "4g"? i get edge at home on tmo. but sprint has me completely covered on 3g,no 4g yet. just wondering if anyone has any experience with sprint 3g. i think it's time for me to jump ship. i love tmo, and their latest selection of phones. but i think i'm gonna take the plunge early. at least they give you 30 days to cancel which is great. i'll just go back to tmo em+ if i have to.
Sprint's 3G is slow!!!!!!!!!! I never got above 2mb in a year of owning an EVO...Now 4g was always fast...when you could actually stay connected

As a former Evo owner (favorite phone ever once Sense is gone), I had to try out the Sensation and the Evo 3D and I finally got a chance to use them both for an extended period today. I can definitely say the grass isn't always greener. I experienced pretty much the same things everyone else has said: the screens are very washed out and both devices are slower than the G2x in pretty much every way. The 3D feature is barely worth writing about as it simply causes a headache. If you're looking for 3D, buy a 3DS instead.
With that said, the Evo 3D is produced by a company that actually pretends to care about most of the devices they release and their consumers, it will have tons of development once the bootloader is unlocked, and in the case of Sprint, they seem to be pretty much on point when it comes to releasing updates. If you can deal with the lame screen, you get good Sprint reception, and can wait for the bootloader to be unlocked, you can't go wrong with a 3D. I believe the G2x to be the better device when it's actually working, but I doubt T-Mo or LG will ever mention it again after the fabled Gingerbread release occurs.

Well, those are just my thoughts and opinions on the devices. You don't have to believe me if you don't want to, but I have no reason to come here and make up a story. I have service from both Sprint (still have my Evo) and T-Mobile and could easily get any of the other two phones for my personal use. At work today I carried around my own G2x and a borrowed Sensation and 3D for around 9 hours and came to the conclusions I mentioned above.
Edit: I should have said former Evo USER in my initial post.

There is no doubt in my mind that the my G2X is definitely faster when it comes to flying around the UI and playing some games but to say it's faster in pretty much every way is completely false. Over the last two weeks I have done numerous tests with the browsers, apps and games. I use the same apps and have played the same games on both phones every day. I can say without a doubt that the Sensation does interact with apps a little bit faster. Google Maps is where it's very noticeable as it will load the map as you scroll about twice as fast as it does on my G2X.
When it comes to the browser, I can't really pick a clear winner here. Some websites get loaded faster on the G2X and others load faster on the Sensation.
When it comes to the games I play, Dungeon Defenders and Angry Birds run about the same on both devices,Riptide GP obviously runs better on the G2X but the game I play most, almost religiously (Homerun Battle 3D) runs smoother and looks better on the Sensation.
If you want, I can show you some video comparisons of the games I listed. Obviously I can't do them side by side due to my hand restriction but you will still be able to get the picture.
By the way, it depends on what display you get with your Sensation. Currently there are 3 available. The nicer Sharp display does not wash out like the others and is almost as vibrant as a Super AMOLED. The better Sharp also has a better contrast, just not quite as good as my G2X. It definitely performs better in direct sunlight than my G2X.

In Baltimore, MD. Both providers have there so called 4G networks. I never see my friends with Sprint go over 4mb/s but I am constantly pulling 8mb/s with 2mb/s upload speeds.

TMO didn't want my G2x ?

alright well now that i have both this and the sensation i figure i'd post this. i arranged with a tmo rep to exchange the my g2x for the sensation around 4 weeks ago. after 3 or so follow up calls from the rep the last time (after already having arranged an exchange) I was told that I would get the sensation rush delivered, free, and at no cost (nicest thing tmo has done for me in years ). BUT, I was also informed during that call that I would not have to return my g2x to them but would be able to keep it (swwweeeeetness!!!). Totally surprised me.
so the reason im posting this is to pose a question. Why would they not want my phone back when they are supposedly out of stock due to back order and also raised the price? mine has no screen bleed and is the best ive seen so far (ive had 5 total, this is the only one that doesnt have it). so would they actually be dropping the G2x or maybe changing something on it?
I don't think they would myself. its a good phone. actually its better than my sensation which is chilling off in the box due to locked bootloader and also the g2x has nvidia chip and all the games i want that the sensation won't play (at least not all of them) yet.
just seems weird that they wouldnt want the phone back, if not just to make up for revenue for giving me the phone free. i'm not complaining or anything, im very happy. it was a pain in the ass to return the phone so many times and deal with annoyed reps for a month. they messed up many times in a row including the previous phone i was supposed to receive before i hard heard of the g2x (SGS4G). anyways it just caught me off guard as sweet as it is.
You must not have read my part regarding this very same scenario. They did the same thing for me. I don't know how you purchased your G2X but I purchased mine at full retail so T mobile not only sent me a Sensation and let me keep my G2X, they also let me remain out of contact. T mobile rep told me there is nothing they can do with the G2X since LG won't take them back after 30 days.
Glad everything worked out for you and like you said, we just got to wait for HTC to unlock this sucker and see what it can really do. I have noticed that some games like Angry Birds and Home Run Battle 3D run smoother in the Sensation but other games like Fruit Slice run better on the G2X. I think its mainly sure to not being optimized for the 3rd gen Snapdragon and the higher resolution. I have found that most of my apps load faster and interact faster on the Sensation like Google Maps for instance. It loads almost twice as fast than it does on my G2X. I also have a hard time looking at the G2X after looking at the Sensation for a week. Now all words and icons look blurry as **** on the G2X which is something I never noticed before. Good luck.

Well I was guessing the cost as I saw how much they pay for the Sensation which is $339. You do realize that carriers don't make much on the phone and most of there profit comes from selling talk, text and data plans. By the way the G2X is no beast over the Sensation. The only thing out does better is play some games smoother and the UI is a little quicker. Once the Sensation drops sense it will be just as fast in the UI. I know this because I use both devices everyday. I still play Tegra games on my G2X like Riptide GP but I rarely user out for anything else. Most apps load quicker on my Sensation (Google Maps loads in half the time) and after looking at QHD, everything else looks fuzzy. So there you have it. The only 2 categories the G2X wind its UI speed and optimized gaming.

Actually just their Customer Service Department. I finally got a great Rep. but I have success usually with their Loyalty Department (but you have to be very convincing that youre ready to pay the cancellation fee and bounce). Just kept a level head and was calm and nice and reminded them that I had taken time off work to return the 4 previous faulty devices and that they had messed up my previous shipment (and that i was paying for 3g on my vibrant for 8 months before i discovered i was only getting 2g because of their sim card. that they should have told all their customers with a network wide text message to come in and get a new one in my opinion) which was a service I had been paying for and had not been receiving at no fault of mine.
T-mobile wouldnt let this happen
I called retention and loyalty and they would not let me exchange this and i have been a customer for 11 years. Please help me do this
hey dolphinwigs,

id just call them. i had some past history with them messing up so im sure that is what helped. that and i did get a very understanding customer service rep. there isnt really a trick its just up to them. i only posted because i felt it was interesting they didn't want the g2x back, and because at the time there were a lot of posts speculating lg and tmobile discontinuing the g2x. figured maybe that could perhaps have been an indication of that. anyways im just sharing the info. also i had 4 g2x phones that had major issues before the last which only had a few. so they were just being cool im sure.

You're comparing the g2x having froyo to gb on the sensation. Not realistic. Once gb is on the g2x, I think it'll blow it away. Make a comparison then and we'll see...

Tmobile

Have anyone noticed no matter what new phone tmobile gets there always something they do as a company to stop if from being a top phone. Example Damn near no marketing for any of there phone except the mytouch wtf. Samsung vibrant no flash or front facing camera. G2x plagued by so much problems . Sensation under powered beast with so much more than what they give us out the box. Compared to at&t where there phones are maxed out with there power and not being cheap with phone features, flash should be a must for a high end smart phone along with build quality. Verizon market the hell out all there phone and it works ,hell i know more about there new phones than tmobile. Im glad at&t bought this struggling ass company cause i was on the verge of switching carriers.

What exactly did T-Mobile do to the phone that makes it less of a phone than the EU version?
They order the phones and somehow they manage to get the worst phones example. The vibrant was the worst galaxy s phone out of all the carriers period. All there htc phones are mid grade at best, sensation high end barely. Just seem like everyone else get more selections and better stuff.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
How was the vibrant the worst galaxy s? Its identical to the att version in all the internals.
The sensation is identical to the eu version minus a few things no one needs that they removed. They even kept "free" tethering which is nice.
The g2x is comparable to dual cores in other carriers and has vanilla android and the g2 is much better than the droid if we are talking phones with keyboards.
I am sorry but you are talking out of your ass. The only thing the sensation lacks is s off and that's htc fault

while i dont agree with alot of what you said, tmobile does has THE worst marketing stategy(not even sure if its a strategy). They pretty much have no advertisment when the NBA season is over(i.e.Tmobile Halftime Show, etc.) I love tmobile for the great price, customer service and they really do have some good phones. But marketing is non-existent and they usually try to push low-end to mid-range devices. Like ive read that they arnt getting the SGS2? if thats true, shame on tmobile.

Your an idiot.
Other than the Atrix and Evo3D NONE of those phone compare to the Sensation. Why don't you return you phone and go troll somewhere else and quit trying to stir up crap in the forum.
Mod's, PLEASE close this useless crap thread.
One more thing, T-Mobile pioneered Android. They had 5 Android phone before a single other US carrier carried them. Again, an idiot.
haha, did you see the thread I posted not too long ago?

They started it and now there in dead ****ing last dip**** thats why at& t bought there ass up. Tmobile broke that's why they don't have good products. Sensation is not all the ground breaking feel the same as a single core phone so stop that mess.

T-Mobile isn't getting the SGSII, they're getting a better device - the Hercules.
As has been pointed out, a lot of the phones on T-Mobile are quite capable devices and T-Mo was the pioneer of our beloved Android.
T-Mobile leaves something to be desired in terms of device commercials but I've seen commercials for the Sensation AND the G2x (before it was pulled) far more than any other device besides the Droid Charge.
The G2x is an amazing phone - LG just needs to fix a few issues that may be software or may be hardware. It still beats the pants off the crappy ass Atrix.
It doesn't compete with Exynos, no, but no American carrier has a Samsung Exynos device at the moment and rumors point that in America we may get Tegra 2 instead of Exynos so its a moot point.
I have a G2x and a Sensation. The G2x spanks the Sensation on performance but there is significant device lag that is random, sometimes including freezing, which is unacceptable and the reboot issue is a big problem. When it works though, the G2x is the phone to beat. Hell mine overclocks to 1.55GHz with a 200mV undervolt and barely gets warm. In Mandro (one of the only dual-core speed tests), it actually beats the Exynos by a good 15%. The Exynos overclocks as well, however, and lets not forget that the Sensation, having a Qualcomm chip, will most likely overclock at least 50% if not higher as well.
Quit trolling. Go get a phone with a provider that locks down everything, charges more, has terrible coverage, and consistently breaks promises. I'm just fine with T-Mobile and I am sure many others are as well otherwise they'd be out of business.
Also, at&t made a BID for T-Mo. The merger is nowhere near actual approval and hopefully it can be delayed long enough for it to get denied based on wireless competition and at&t will have to suck it up for once and actually build THEIR OWN network rather than piggyback off everyone else's!!!
EDIT: And on your comment about the Epic versus the Vibrant. Note the internal storage difference between the two and then realize that Sprint made a huge trade off with their version just to have a hardware keyboard.
From customer services reps i was told there bought and thing won't change until its finalized and my contact is over and like u said too many bugs in all there phones not just one all there phones .I'm hating i sold my vibrant running bionix 1.3 cuause it runs way better than this funky as I'm staring to doubt duel core sensation smh.

Early launch bugs? Price you pay for having the latest and greatest. Everyone that knows technology knows that when it comes to wireless, you don't purchase the latest and greatest and expect to have no issues. Go cry somewhere else.

I agree with most of this ,but the g2x sucks ,I had one for a couple days and I git rid of it ,I didn't think the camera was worth a crap and it just had too many issues ,ill take my sensation that works than a device that gets good quadrant scores ,which mean absolutely nothing , sense may be a little slower but its wayyyyyy better than vanilla android IMO,but good post though
Latest and greatest my ass i had a g1 that ran for years i had a iphone that lasted for years i had ten faulty vibrants 2 g2s. T-Mobile was great at first now its evident there cutting corners. I can deal with a washed screen ,dead pixels, hell even a cracjed screen but if it reboots on its on and i lose my alarm clock setting that blows or if i try and make a call and it freeze sometimes and i have to pull battery and roboot . Missed calls when my phone didn't even ring . Everyone know in Chicago T-Mobile ain't nothing they fell off period.

Now I know your just a trolling idiot. T-Mobile is NOT bought. AT&T has made an offer. Do you read the news or do you just write random BS that you pull out of your a**? AT&T CANNOT buy T-Mobile UNTIL DOJ and FCC approve it (estimated to happen March 2012 time frame). THEN it will take another 3 months to close the deal. So quit complaining that your stuck with T-Mobile, get off your Mommy's plan and get your own contract with whomever you want. Then, no more Sensation.
Oh, why don't you just take it back and get a Vibrant again? You have 14 days.

Ok computer tough guy. This conversation is moot. No point, just a dumb punk talking s**t. I even thanked you because you reminded me that I should not talk to the small minded people in the world. Good bye.
So uneducated. And extremely stupid. Nice try on the troll though. Almost worked...your even bad at making people mad. That's just sad. Carry on people. He doesn't even own a sensation. He's just trolling.
No he is a gnome. Hey chief bother us gnome more.

Assuming the hardware is the same, this is great news for the carrier branded model users on xda (also assuming HTC is somewhat gpl complient, which has yet to be seen by me)
But Google i/o is right around the corner... Let's see what the next nexus has to offer. If the nexus is lte, there in no contest if I were to buy off contract- given the price and direct from Google

Let the tech wars begin. My personal prediction is all carriers will be contractless and data will be unlimited with certain "play store apps" Samsung gotta be nervous staring down those rockets .

Well, I can say AT&T will NEVER go back to unlimited data. With over 100 million users and nearly half are smartphones users, it doesn't have the bandwidth to carry it. However, statistics suggest that the average users does not use more than 3GB of data. As far as anything else, I believe in HTC. Samsung is a good phone maker, but I really want to go with HTC. Call me crazy, but HTC One > Galaxy S4.

I really like HTC and the one looks so awesome. Its my understanding that in the not so near future we will have voice over LTE. Lol they even are calling it hd phone service. With technology and competition there is a lot more that lte can give us and bandwith issues with advanced LTE
Will alllow a lot more and use a lot less. I'm expecting Google to subsidize data by offering apps with unlimited data as incentive. Its also my understanding that we will see the complete wireless data over lte as home service . Wimax was a failure but the voice over lte with home wireless will push unlimited data for fee. Obviously wired connections will still be needed but as Google perfects its gigabit speed internet we should see massive technology leaps like never before . We have the whole nfc world also which hasnt even scatched the surface of use And with ipv6 I'd say 10 years from now we will usher new tecnology era .
