TMO didn't want my G2x ? - T-Mobile LG G2x

alright well now that i have both this and the sensation i figure i'd post this. i arranged with a tmo rep to exchange the my g2x for the sensation around 4 weeks ago. after 3 or so follow up calls from the rep the last time (after already having arranged an exchange) I was told that I would get the sensation rush delivered, free, and at no cost (nicest thing tmo has done for me in years ). BUT, I was also informed during that call that I would not have to return my g2x to them but would be able to keep it (swwweeeeetness!!!). Totally surprised me.
so the reason im posting this is to pose a question. Why would they not want my phone back when they are supposedly out of stock due to back order and also raised the price? mine has no screen bleed and is the best ive seen so far (ive had 5 total, this is the only one that doesnt have it). so would they actually be dropping the G2x or maybe changing something on it?
I don't think they would myself. its a good phone. actually its better than my sensation which is chilling off in the box due to locked bootloader and also the g2x has nvidia chip and all the games i want that the sensation won't play (at least not all of them) yet.
just seems weird that they wouldnt want the phone back, if not just to make up for revenue for giving me the phone free. i'm not complaining or anything, im very happy. it was a pain in the ass to return the phone so many times and deal with annoyed reps for a month. they messed up many times in a row including the previous phone i was supposed to receive before i hard heard of the g2x (SGS4G). anyways it just caught me off guard as sweet as it is.

You must not have read my part regarding this very same scenario. They did the same thing for me. I don't know how you purchased your G2X but I purchased mine at full retail so T mobile not only sent me a Sensation and let me keep my G2X, they also let me remain out of contact. T mobile rep told me there is nothing they can do with the G2X since LG won't take them back after 30 days.
Glad everything worked out for you and like you said, we just got to wait for HTC to unlock this sucker and see what it can really do. I have noticed that some games like Angry Birds and Home Run Battle 3D run smoother in the Sensation but other games like Fruit Slice run better on the G2X. I think its mainly sure to not being optimized for the 3rd gen Snapdragon and the higher resolution. I have found that most of my apps load faster and interact faster on the Sensation like Google Maps for instance. It loads almost twice as fast than it does on my G2X. I also have a hard time looking at the G2X after looking at the Sensation for a week. Now all words and icons look blurry as **** on the G2X which is something I never noticed before. Good luck.

Why ask why? Just keep the damn phone, it probably costs them a penny, besides they know you will go back to the g2x, so they want to save you the shame of you calling them back begging for the g2x.

Probably cost them about $300.
PS.. I never went back to the G2X for my daily driver. Now I just use it to test out Roms on which will probably cease once the Sensation boot loader gets unlocked.

No way it costs them that much.... I think they're running new g2x's. I've had them take back phones I've had for a year... I'm going to ask for a new g2x when they come out again... not a sensation... seeing as this phone is a beast in comparison

Well I was guessing the cost as I saw how much they pay for the Sensation which is $339. You do realize that carriers don't make much on the phone and most of there profit comes from selling talk, text and data plans. By the way the G2X is no beast over the Sensation. The only thing out does better is play some games smoother and the UI is a little quicker. Once the Sensation drops sense it will be just as fast in the UI. I know this because I use both devices everyday. I still play Tegra games on my G2X like Riptide GP but I rarely user out for anything else. Most apps load quicker on my Sensation (Google Maps loads in half the time) and after looking at QHD, everything else looks fuzzy. So there you have it. The only 2 categories the G2X wind its UI speed and optimized gaming.

Actually just their Customer Service Department. I finally got a great Rep. but I have success usually with their Loyalty Department (but you have to be very convincing that youre ready to pay the cancellation fee and bounce). Just kept a level head and was calm and nice and reminded them that I had taken time off work to return the 4 previous faulty devices and that they had messed up my previous shipment (and that i was paying for 3g on my vibrant for 8 months before i discovered i was only getting 2g because of their sim card. that they should have told all their customers with a network wide text message to come in and get a new one in my opinion) which was a service I had been paying for and had not been receiving at no fault of mine.

T-mobile wouldnt let this happen
I called retention and loyalty and they would not let me exchange this and i have been a customer for 11 years. Please help me do this

hey dolphinwigs,
I got my g2x with a new 2 year contract in april, and it's way past the exchange date for me. is there any way still for me to exchange for a sensation? thanks

id just call them. i had some past history with them messing up so im sure that is what helped. that and i did get a very understanding customer service rep. there isnt really a trick its just up to them. i only posted because i felt it was interesting they didn't want the g2x back, and because at the time there were a lot of posts speculating lg and tmobile discontinuing the g2x. figured maybe that could perhaps have been an indication of that. anyways im just sharing the info. also i had 4 g2x phones that had major issues before the last which only had a few. so they were just being cool im sure.

might take my mytouch 4g back

and get the galaxy s 4g,been seeing the problems with this phone but that dang screen is very nice and i have just a few days to return it so good or bad move?
Good move! I did the exact same thing. Luckily my 14 days with the mytouch ended a day after the Galaxy S 4G came out. I love the nicer screen, faster data, and lighter weight / more comfortable feel. But I will admit this, i'm just using it for something to get me by until the pyramid or galaxy s 2 come out. If I was looking to keep it for a long time I would take into consideration that the MyTouch 4G will have much more support from the hacker community. CyanogenMod for example(my favorite rom that I used on my NexusOne) already has great support out for the Mytouch 4G while there is just now support coming for the Vibrant and you won't know if it will support HSPA+. So I guess My answer is that if you want the best option that's out right now, get the Galaxy S 4G. But if you have aspirations to hack and rom your device right now, you'll probably be happier with the MyTouch 4G.
And in case you're wondering, I have got noticeably higher data speeds with the GS4G. But I can tell that the MyTouch performs better when it comes to processing speeds.
I came from a mt4g.. I had I for about 3 months. Galaxy is the way to go.. it's just an all around joy to use

I have a question for you guys, my gf got the gs4g a couple days ago we live live in CA. And lets say the GS 2 come out how dose the return thing go
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I believe California has a 30 day return window. I highly doubt the GS2 will come out in that window but if it does you can return the GS4G, pay a restock fee and get the GS2.
Oh and if it dosnt is there a way to get out of the contract?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Nope. You want to make sure you have the phone you want within the buyers remorse period. I am not positive about CA policies but most places in the US the contact kicks in after 14 days. In CA I believe you can exchange phones within 30 days but you can't return it out right and get out of your contact after 14 days. You may want to check with your local store or call customer care for CA specific terms and conditions.
Thanks for your help, I realy apperciate it, so on the safe side if it within the first week it possiable to get out of the contract?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Should be fine. You return your phone and they revert you back to your original contact if you had one and reset your upgrade eligibility. You may have to pay a restock fee if they are applicable in CA.
Oh but I beleave she opened up her contract with this phone
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Then you should have 14 days to cancel your contact and service. You would just pay a prorated amount for how long you used your phone. Unfortunately it means you will have to cancel your service too and then just start fresh when a phone comes out you want. Just remember you can end up waiting forever for the "perfect" device. There is always going to be a better device on the horizon. The Vibrant and the GS4G are both good devices with active developers out there making ROMs and modifications for them.
i want it but dang if i could get by with it feeling so cheap.
I have gotten used to the weight but if it really bothers you a gel skin or a shell on it make it feel much more substantial.
Yeah thanks again for your help, your awesome man
This fourm already seems better then that of the epic there is nothing but trash talkers in there. I don't think there will be as many as there are for the Vibrant but the good news is the major developers have already committed to providing support. Team Whiskey already has some ROMs ready to go, right now we are just waiting for CWR to work with the GS4G and then the ROMs will be coming. Since the phone is so similar to the Vibrant development will be a lot easier and some mods and ROMs can just be ported over. For example The Team Whiskey Frost ROM for the Vibrant is actually built on the GS4G ROM. They have already been working with this phone. So there should be decent support.

I actually have not dug too deeply into the GS2's specs but from what I have been hearing it is supposed to launch a little closer to late spring, earlysummer time frame. But who knows!?

G2X only $99? ???

Why is the G2X only $99 now? Feel like jumping on one but no other high-end phone has dropped that fast. Makes me hesitate to get this phone. Anyone have any thoughts?

Just go buy it, with Gingerbread it can only get better.

This doesn't surprise me. Actually, after the Sensation comes out in five weeks I expect the G2X to be T-Mobile's "value" higher-end phone. The majority of people (not the tech-savvy group here on XDA) like Sense, TouchWiz, and MotoBlur. If you look at the T-Mobile forums there are a lot of threads about "where's my stuff;" meaning the clock, calendar, etc.
The big supposed selling point of the G2X was its close to "pure Google" experience. The G2 was close to a pure Google phone. HTC obviously started with stock Android and went from there. The T-Mobile apps were discreet and didn't effect anything if you didn't use them. The G2X is LG's s/w with the UI removed and tons of T-Mobile crapware embedded in to the OS. So it doesn't appeal to people who like pretty interfaces and it fails as a "pure Google" phone. That leaves it appealing to the less than what I'm guessing as the 10% of people who look at their phone as a hobby and see the biggest feature as CM7 committing to it.
HTC is going to throw T-Mobile tons of marketing money to promote the Sensation; especially since they have the US exclusive. In six weeks the G2X will be a niche afterthought. If the Gingerbread update makes the phone stable I may keep it for a while but my long term plan is to get the Sensation or SGS2 (I'm leaning toward the Sensation because of the qHD screen). Both Samsung and HTC seem to have their software act together much better than LG who delivered the O2X with bugs and followed that up with an even buggier G2X.
And I love my g2x. Why would an online sale change that?

Other than CM7 support and that it's easier to mod, what would make you pick the G2X over the Sensation if they were both the same price? Or, if the Sensation was just as easy to mod what features does the G2X have that would make you still pick it? Just curious not questioning your feelings toward the phone.
$199.99 on two year contract. Just went to here: http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/Phones/cell-phone-detail.aspx?cell-phone=T-Mobile-G2x-with-Google

This phone feels great in my hand, I personally like a 4 inch screen, stock-ish android experience is easy for developers to work on, and the Tegra 2 is proven compared to the dual core chip coming on the Sensation. Coming from a vibrant, I like this screen better for some reason and gps works great. I'm happy.
As a side note, samsungs "touch wiz" ui interface sucked and sabotaged a lot of development that could have happened. I fear the same for sense roms (htc).
There you go, my 2 cents. I know you said "other than easier to mod", but that's a serious factor for me!

From what I've heard Radio Shack is very disappointed with their T-Mobile sales. This is probably the only way the can compete. Wirefly is probably the same way. If you look at their online product pages it looks like the are the same company. The page design is nearly identical.
Honestly $100 off regular price is about the minimum it would take for me to use them. The advantage of being able to take my phone back to a T-Mobile store for an exchange if necessary is worth the extra $100.
Great information, thanks everyone.

Sell my g2x?

So I was on the border of whether or not to buy the g2x, or wait for the sensation. The locked bootloader on the sensation sealed the deal and on april 20th, 2011, I was the proud owner of a shiny new G2x! A little background is in order... I've been using Htc's since g1. Fast forward through an mt3g, n1, hd2 (android) and an mt4g. Always happy until the washed out screen on the mt4g. But I'm not one to complain, so it was all good. I gave my wife the mt4g when I bought the g2x. Shes running evild's sensation rom. And I must say, IT HAS GIVIN THE MT4G A NEW LIFE! Ive actually gotten a little jealous... I've had random reboots when ocing, lag with certain roms,, and freezing with certain roms. But nothing a battery pull can't fix. My question is, when the sensation is available, should I sell the g2x and buy the sensation? What is everyones opinion and why...

My advice would be to wait about 30 days. By then the official gingerbread update will be out (hopefully) and with that, new kernel and baseband for the devs to develop new roms.

Ultimately yes ill do what I want. My wife told me to buy the sensation and keep the g2x... I can only use one device at a time lol I have no use for 2 devices... I think I'm just disappointed in the unreliabilty of my specific g2x. And its obviously a widespread issue. Needless to say, as fond as I am of the g2x, I'm seriously considering selling it and getting the sensation. Plus, I'm getting bored with the g2x and maybe even the whole constant flashing and modding in general. Spending hours modding framework and editing .pngs just seems to be getting too tedious I guess. On the flip side, the sensation is a solid respectable device with great hardware. Rooted or not. And I'm sure someone will have the unlock key dropped in their lap soon enough ;-). I'm just looking for an excuse to not sell this monster lol

I paid 200 after rebate... In release day. Cheap... Definitely, but the full price of the phone was cheap to begin with, so I guess the contact price is relevant. It will be interesting to see what the sensation goes for a month after release in craigslist...

That would be interesting to see what the price would be on craigslist. I've got so many phones to choose from it's really about preference. I've got 5 lines all have net and all have upgrades available. My kids and wife get my hand me downs. For me at the moment the G2X has no competition on T Mobile. The minor hiccups are software related for sure. So there going to be fixed or some great rom will make it perfect. Currently running stock with the bloat removed and it's snappy. No reboots, hardly no backlight issues, keyboard has no lag, so if I compare to my other phones which are Nexus S, Nexus One, Sidekick 4G, G2, and my dads Inspire. I'm definitely liking this phone. It would take the Sensation to really be sensational to make this phone go. My wife already has her hopes up that I'll fall for the Sensation, she loves the G2X. The phone is great, has some issues but I'm sure LG will fix them all. Guess if your phone is screwy, demand they replace and give you a new one. But I definitely waited to see what this phone was capable of before I pulled the trigger, I'll do the same with the Sensation.

Yea, I will be buying the sensation outright if I get it. The support for the g2x has been phenomenal. Which is my biggest reason for holding in to it. Tmobile has always been deutschebags about swapping my handset. Even though I buy atleast 2 phones a year from them. So I'm just at the point where I am tired of dealing with them and deal with my original purchase.

Where did you read that? Im pretty sure tmo is getting the sgs2. I keep saying people should hold off until they (tmo or lg) releases these supposed updates. IMO the g2x blows away ANY of the amoled screens i have seen. and just because it has an xtra .2 processing power doesnt mean its going to be better or faster.
Once the g2x updates are released (im hoping one will be a fix for the lg and the other will be the official GB release for the g2x). ME personally I wont be getting any htc phones until they make some decent cameras. Thats just me though. its funny my g2x is near perfect other than battery drain. And battery charging takes for freaken ever. My d2 charged full in 30 min go figure! BUT my womans g2x which she got a few months after mine has almost ALL the defects: screen bleed, reboots serious battery drain, and she gets the sleep of death contstantly.

any who, I'm selling the G2X some time in the next couple weeks, I'm in the same boat as the OP, except I don't have much issues besides a tiny screen bleed top corners and a reboot since I've had the device 4/24... I just love HTC Sense and HTC phones plus I have an upgrade available so selling the G2X and getting the Sensation will not be an issue. I say sell and purchase new phone. Sense is just so amazing compared to vanilla, and I'm pretty sure the G2X wont be getting a sense ROM.

There was a tmo roadmap leaked that didn't show the galaxy s 2 but mentioned the Hercules. Also there was another leak from an accessories manufacturer that showed the names for the sprint, at&t, and Verizon gs2 but didn't mention anything for TMobile. The Hercules should be pretty much a gs2 but with a bigger screen and maybe a qualcom processor instead of exynos and 42mb/s radio
Edit: I love my g2x and the support is getting from the greatest devs in the android community. Just wanted to put that out there

Sensation trade for G2x.. is it likely?

I ignorantly purchasable G2x the day before the Sensation came out for T-Mobile USA. I will begin trying to trade for one. What are the chances that there will be Sensation owners willing to part ways for a G2x?

chances were low when I was trying to do that last month. you will probably have to chip in another $50. Prices of sensation on Craigslist have been dropping gradually so it's possible. But I don't think a sensation user wont give it up for a g2x..
Very unlikely now that we have s off.

I'm willing to do do $50. The best buy Rep told me I had 30 days to return it. Of course T-Mobile only offers 14 days. I've been living with regret ever since! Haha!

well I think both phones are pretty similar, the only advantages are bigger screen. qHD, and better camera.
Lol, i was one of the lucky one to exchange my G2x out last week and got $3 back from tmobile. I seriously doubt you will find someone here willing to exchange it now that s-off/root is possible. If you can still do it with the Best Buy plan i will say go for it and take the loss. I have always said this and will keep saying it. The so called update LG released will most likely be the last one. Both Tmobile and LG are washing their hands off the G2x...

It's a pretty good phone if you get a stable one. The IPS display is really nice and the Tegra chip is pretty good...not to mention it was recently updated to stock Gingerbread. I still prefer the Sensation, however.
G2x is the worst smartphone I have owned. Hopefully the next nexus is not made by them. LG has still long way to go in order to compete for high end android smartphones. I hope they learn from the mistakes of optimus 2x/g2x and make better phones in the future.
Pros of Sensation over G2X IMO:
-higher resolution
-better camera and video
-Better screen (imo, no bleed)
-bigger screen while about the same size
-hardware may be more powerful
-more stable
Cons:
-bad WiFi. mediocre reception, terrible death grip (not even death grip tbh, more so just put a finger back there and it dies)
-worse front facing camera
-less reliable touch screen
-eats battery during heavy use faster (drops like a rock)
-heavier (not too bad though)
-no dedicated hdmi port
The rest comes down to personal preference. I have a weird glitch where changing volume in calls does nothing whatsoever, but that's probably just my sensation. Tbh I don't know which phone I'd pick if I had to choose again. I love the better screen and camera of the sensation, but the WiFi is much much worse in my experience.
I got one if the good ones. I've never had a problem. I just think the sensation looks prettier. I guess I'm vein! Haha

[Q] Switching to T Mobile from Sprint, phone recommendations

Okay, so I'm switching from Sprint due to service issues (I'm less than a mile away from a tower and can never make a call, even standing outside unless I'm humping the tower).
Thanks to the sale currently going on, and my corporate discount, I'm able to get 2gb soft cap unlimited data and 500 minutes for around 55/month.
Now, after having compared the two phones online (aka youtube videos comparing them and some offhand reviews from a few random people) I figured the current deal, the MyTouch 4G by HTC was a pretty good replacement for my Evo. It was a bit smaller looking, some complaints about the UI, etc, but with a custom rom the UI issue is resolved and I don't mind a smaller phone.
But then... almost mockingly... the G2x popped up as an ad after I placed my order... and being the tech geek I am I started praying to Buddha for help overcoming the temptation...
But meh, temptation is one thing, user experience is another.
So, should I go with my deal of 1.05 for a MyTouch? Or should I get the G2x for a host of features I don't use (HDMI out for one). Note, I'm not a huge gamer but there doesn't seem to be many HD games I'd care about playing on a phone, honestly. And I have my evo for the gameloft games and whatnot... but still, if the G2x outclasses the MyTouch by $150 bucks, then so be it.
I would say to wait for the galaxy s ll that's coming out pretty soon. That's just my opinion.

G2x...you will not regret it.
Oh and the G2x is now only $99 on Tmo's website.
I would go with the MT4G...the G2X really is a pos with alot of issues. Not as fast as the MT4G either....
Nexus s. Even though its Samsung, i cant hate on its performance
Rest in peace Mr. Jobs....
@watt9493 - Cannot find the nexus s for sale by TMo. I know AT&T has it though, otherwise, I would in a heartbeat.
@babymatteo - It's actually 150, that's a rebate that my plan may not qualify for... Especially with how I got the plan.
Well, it arrives on either Friday, Saturday or Monday. Let's hope for Friday as it shipped out today.
I have no complaints with the mt4g. Sweet phone and fast as heck

So you're saying that a single core is faster than a dual core? Hahaha...CPU and GPU performance...G2x would be winner no matter what. And as far as issues go, a simple root and custom rom fixes everything...

Mt4g slide is dual core. Iam sorry I didn't realize you meant just the mt4g. G2x anyday.
I would grab the mt4g slide if you can though a sweet phone. But I would go g2x over a regular mt4g

Well, just got my mt4g. Y'know, as an alternative to my evo, it ain't half bad. Actually thinking of sinking that money I would have put into the phone into a tablet. Though I have 29 more days to decide if I like it or my service, so there ya go.
