Erratic "Application Manager" behaviour - HTC Sensation

Hi Guys
Anyone noticed this problem: whenever you enter the Application Manager and click on an application to see the size of the app or transfer it to the SD card, the size numbers start flickering very fast and then they stabilize on 0 (zero). I have to use the back button then go back into the same application to see the actual numbers
I have to stay this initial release of the Sensation software is extremely buggy, my DHD was way smoother and bug free, hope HTC comes up with updates very soon
I am on the ASIA WWE version 28.707.2.1

Yes, have seen this alot... even caused a few non responsive crashes - requiring a battery pull to resolve...

This also happens when the phone is trying to read your sd card. I've been using a sd card that hasn't been formatted in a while, so last night I saved everything and formatted it. Since then, no problems.

I also experienced it. But will try formatting as Worldwide60 suggested.

Same here, ill give it a try too!

+1 also just changed to a fresh formatted 16 Gig Micro SD card still have the App Manager shutter
Swyped from HTC Pyramid, using XDA Premium App.

Anyone getting errors moving apps to sd using the application storage space saving feature? I select apps to move and it will move a few then tell me there is no more space on my sd card - there's 11gb free. I keep cycling through and it will move more but then it finally won't move any more. HTC is on some bull**** releasing this buggy crap.

I updated to 1.34.401.1 and this behavior is gone. All is normal.

Thought it was just me! Ill be waiting for the ota
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e

Normal (but buggy) behaviour...my Nexus One did this too. I think it happens because I'm always trying to move apps to SD too fast.
edit: Now wife just complained about having to try twice or more on some of her apps!

I have the same problem too.Formatted my 16 gig class 6 card didn't help.oh well not a biggie for me,since i'm not experiencing any of the more serious/annoying issues many are reporting here....knocking on wood.

[Q] Icons for apps not showing up

My icons for apps on my home screens will not load. All it is showing is a generic android icon. Any other known issues or fixes?

I've found that changing the scene helps. You will have to do this twice to get it back to your original set-up.
Still hoping that this will be fixed with an update. Although no sign of that coming any time soon from HTC.
I've noticed this on any apps moved to the sd card. Any ideas?
When you move your apps to the SD card, this is what happens in Android as a whole. This is not generalized to the Sensation as my last 5 phones have done this. Until Google fixes this, you just going to have to learn to live with it.

It doesn't do it on all phones. It depends on factors that I don't know but I can tell you it did it on my most recent phones like my G2X and Nexus S.
It only does it when the app is on your SD card. The icon should remain until you restart your phone.
I've been having the same issue on the Sensation, but never had this problem on any other Android phone... could the issue be from not formatting the SD card after moving it from my old phone to this one?

Quick fix to get app icon picture back:
-Long press the "generic android icon" on home screen and drag to trash/remove on bottom right
-Go to your apps list and long press that same app and replace it to where u had it or wherever else u like
i heard it might have something to do with the speed of the sd card. Only a window of time allowed during boot to let the images to load, after that generic only. maybe moving from the stock class 4 to a 6 or 10 would help? Anyone see this issue with a faster card?

I was having the same problem and this worked.
Move the Apps from sd to phone.
The phone loads internal memory first which has all your Apps on your home screens than it loads external. So if they are stored on sd they show up as generic. Download app2sd transfer to phone and your good to go.

Micro SD slot

I got my transformer yesterday. Best thing I've ever bought. However.....when inserting a SD into the slot. It won't recognise it properly. I have to use my finger to push it in a little more before it will accept it.
Is this a known problem? I will try another couple of SD cards later but don't want to have to have it repaired a day after getting it.

yes.. never insert or remove your card with power on... Cant cause corrupt to the card..
Thanks for that advice. It still doesn't explain whether there is a problem with the SD slot on the pad.
It shouldn't need pushing in further once the sd 'clips' have engaged.

also put it in slow cuz at times it seems has if im gonna break my card..
I don't think that I should have to get used to constantly pushing on the SD when I need to use it. Haha. Of o release my finger it won't read. It requires constant pressure. Hopefully its just that card. Thanks anyway.

This happened to me the first time, the card needs to go all way to the end but since it get the mechanism at half insert, it might look that its inserted correctly when it isnt.
I must just show its bare head (or bottom) in the side of the TF. If you find that pushing the card to the end, it doesn't stay there (it usually recoils a little), then maybe the mechanism of the slot is faulty (the spring might be loose).

Optimizing aplications after restart

After updating my sensation to android 4.0.3 with sense 3.6, every time after restarting phone i wait too long, and on screen writes: optimizing applications. Is it normal?
Yes, it is. It happens on mine too. Not a lot of apps are optimized for ICS yet... I believe that is why that loading thing shows whenever we boot our devices. I am not sure--- but it happens to everyone. You're not alone.
^LMFAO
Android is building dalvik cache that is why you get the message, not because its "optimizing" them (google want to make "building dalvik cache" sound cool so they say "optimizing applications)

I've found that the device is a lot faster now than before. Apps are nice and don't lag (except Instagram) and start up really quickly. The battery thing... I don't think it uses a lot more. Maybe, but I am not sure. Did anyone notice that you can't go off and get the battery widget on HTC Hub? I kept looking for it and I couldn't find it.

Having the same problem here - it seems to be caused by a process called "media" that after the phone boots keeps crashing and restarting. If I kill this process the phone acts normally and I get my usual day usage out of the battery.
Just need to find a fix for this "media" process - might try a factory reset later.

I have the exact same problem, I use ARHD but it seems to affect all Sense 3.6 ROM's I've tried including stock. Can you tell me what SD Card you have and do you have a lot of music, photos etc on it?
The issue doesn't occur on Sense 4.0 ROM's.
My workaround was to just disable Media starting automatically using System Tuner (needs root).
Thanks.

Wow. Very similar to me.
I have a 32GB SanDisk Class 4.
700 Music tracks and 200 photos.
This doesn't seem coincidental. Where did you purchase your card from and around what time period?
Amazon, about august last year.
I tried a factory reset last night and formatted the sd card, put no media on it but again that process is restarting again this morning. Its supposed to be migrating the media database... But there's no media for it to migrate...
Might try a different sd card tonight.
Maybe someone could split these posts off in to another thread to see if there's others with the issue?

There is an app called rescan media root that allows you to manually disable or enable this media scanner service. Search Xda for the apk. It saves time, battery and having to factory reset. :3

Guess this is one of the bugs for Sense 3.6 ROMs. Btw, I factory reset my phone after the update. Still experiencing the annoying Mail app bug. And whenever I open the Music app, my phone (the Sensation XE one) automatically checks for new updates for my phone. Anyone else experiencing this issue?

It drains the battery as it keeps the phone in a wakelock so it doesn't sleep properly.
I've created a thread for it with the relevant posts.

Yes it's harder to gain S-OFF and Root with 1.2x, but it's not impossible. I wouldn't let that bother you.
I'm sorry, it's been that long since I've been on Sense, that I can't remember what's supposed to be displayed there in the battery status. I don't think mine displayed apps like your questioning. But like I said, I simply can't remember sorry.
Hopefully someone using Sense will post to help you with that.
Do you have button problems when using the stock browser?
Do you have another SD card to test for awhile? The unmount/mount issue could be the card itself. If not, maybe back it up to a PC and format the card (in the phone) and see if that helps?

Reboot/Battery Dying Problem

When my phone dies and I reboot it after charging, many of my apps when I tap on them say "application not installed". It's a big hassle reinstalling them all the time. Anyone else having these issue or know a fix?

Haven't seen that before, I was on Trickdroid 6.2 for a while and it never happened. Are your apps installed to internal storage or moved to SD (SD meaning the storage partion, as opposed to the default 2.5gb for apps)? Maybe try wiping dalvik & cache for starters..never hurts.
I have a few on the SD and the rest in the 2.5gb for apps.
