Two quick questions...
I was wondering if there is anyway to turn off the orange led while the phone is charging.
I also had a question about the capacitive buttons led turning off with the screen dim or with a certain time of touch inactivity.
Just an annoyance I have while I'm in the dock mode at night.. very distracting .
Thanks !

Anyone have the same problem as me? Basically my capacitive button back lights tend to not always actually light up. They choose when they want to light up. I usually do a reboot and they go back to normal but an hour later they shut off and turn on whenever, rarely turn back on though.

They are turned off when the sensation is exposed to light and are on when there isnt that much light. For example, using the sensation in sunlight will keep it off while using the sensation in a dark room will leave it lit.

Yeah, I get what you mean, my G2 was like that as well.
Thing is that im in my room right now and its dark in here, besides my tv which isnt emitting much light and theyre off right now. Luckily i still know where the buttons are located and which one is which, but its annoying knowing theyre off when they should be on.

Sounds like its time to send in your phone for a replacement. I just tried on mine what you described, and my keys light up. I would get a warranty exchange

I have the exact same problem with my button back lights, and will probably have to send it back to HTC for a replacement.

Just put your finger over the light sensor. If the capacitive lights come on, they work.
If they don't come on, they don't work.

I just learned that if I put my finger over the sensor light, the button back lights turn on. That is great news, because I didn't want to send my phone back.

True, but they shouldn't function that way. It should be automatic. I'd send it in for repair.

They are 'automatic'. They come on when the phone is booted, and when the ambient light is low.
They don't STAY on when you can see them perfectly well without being lit. That would drain your battery life faster.
That's actually a good thing.
People shouldn't return a device because of a 'feature', IMHO.

Mine stay on constantly regardless of light. Not sending it for repair as it's likely software not a hardware problem.

I don't even realize if mines are on or off since I know where the buttons are, so I guess it doesn't bother me.
Tried googling it but didn't find anything exactly like this.
Basically when I have auto brightness there are times when i won't move my phone whatsoever or any lighting around it and the brightness go from dim to bright couple secs back to dim and so on for no reason.
Could it be a faulty sensor or firmware related?
I had stock and few custom roms and its happening on all of them.
Idk if I should send to htc for repkacemt or are any you experiencing same thing and expect this to be fixed with update?
It's so annoying and although I could put a constant screen brightness I don't want to.
Thanks in advanced !!

I find that a lot of times when I'm holding my phone in landscape that my left hand covers the sensor. As I'm typing it will move enough to generate a change, and then move back to undo it. Just my .02.

Damm... I was about to post simething regarding this issue too...
As i m typing now, tge dispkay keep "tunning" itself.. wanna chk with the rest if its normal... I dun encounter this when i off the auto brightness function

Yes I don't hold in landscape and I will literally just put phone on table and the brightness goes back and forth without stopping.
And I'm positive no light is changing or ne movements ...

I think you have what I have and maybe its just a faulty sensor?
Then again if it gets brigght it dies adjust accordingly and otherway around its just it never stops and imagine reading even this forum at night on phone and every eight seconds gets brighter and eight seconds later gets dim and so on.
It's so annoying I think I'm gonna send my phone in
I'm just scared to because i had no other issues at all that others had and don't wanna risk a different problem ....

Hi. Are the buttons supposed to light up? Mine don't. Is this normal?
They light up on mine.
It does look like it is controlled by the light sensor.

More specifically only in certain light conditions. The buttons rely on the light sensor to tell them when to light up.

Any way of stopping them lighting at night? Reason I ask is I use Gentle Alarm and when 'Night Display' is enabled they will remain on even when in Night Display mode I press the power button off then on and they still come on? Not had the problem on other phones.

Don't think it's on the market these days? I have found a copy but need to be rooted - but thanks for suggestion. I'll root at some point but my One S may need to be returned as currently in discussions with HTC over mobile network reception.

For my HTC touch pro 2 had i an application named Leo extended notifications.that's let the led blinking by a sms mail ..
Is there for Android or better for the sensation also an application that's having the same function as Leo extended notification??
You can look in settings and set the led to blink for sms and different functions depending on your Rom , some have more functions than others. I think this is what your asking. It would be under display, then led notifications. Hope this helps. Best wishes
