[Q] Best Evo 4G official ROM and build? - General Questions and Answers

Hey! My girlfriend is having a ton of problems with her Samsung Epic 4G, which is no surprise it seems everyone I know who's had a samsung of any kind has had trouble and replacements. She had hers replaced, with the same issues as before, theyve reset it several times... so she bought an HTC Evo. I myself have the Hero and I LOVE it. Ive never had any issues other than with finding the right Sprint build for my needs. Im rooted and changed many things on mine.
So Im wondering, if anyone knows which ROM would be best to have on her new Evo phone? Friend of mine just did an update on his Evo and is having trouble as well now. Im HTC smart, and she's not too avid on technology stuff so I want to make sure she has the most stable ROM and build that is official from Sprint, no custom ROMs please. =D
That would be so greatly appreciated if someone can get back with me!

By no custom ROM's, do you mean you don't plan to root the phone, or you just want to use a rooted OEM ROM like this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1038701
I tested this on my evo 4g today, but I still dont like HTC sense, so I went back to my cyanogen m7 ROM.

[Q] Market Issues

Alright, all of us over in the Samsung Vibrant section are having market issues today.
It isn't specific to one particular ROM or anything, but I would like to know if anyone else on a different phone is having market downloading issues as well..

New 4G User! Greetings!

Hey guys,
I finally got my hands on an Inspire 4G and I'm ready to dive back into the android scene! I had an HD2 last year that I rooted and flashed CM6 rom onto, but somebody stole it when I was out of town and I haven't used an android phone since. I'm excited about using my Inspire 4G and pushing it to its maximum potential.
I noticed that the forum base for this phone isn't too big (yet) so I'm a little lost on where to go. I want to theme my phone and get rid of the bloatware, but will this require flashing a custom rom? I understand that I have to root my phone so I am looking into that now. How did you guys theme your phones?

Help? Requesting your phone wisdom!

I've seen a few threads like this one, but none that helped me out completely.
My problem is, I'm in the market for a new phone. Back in the day before android, I'd just buy the newest one and be fine. But now I gotta have the right stuff!
What I'm looking for is either a sprint phone or AT&T.
I currently have an htc hero with sprint with cyanogenmod7 on it. I love it! But I'm looking to upgrade.
I want a phone I can root, gingerbread, and a big screen. the moto atrix looks awesome, but I heard it can't have a full custom rom.
So basically, I need opinions. What should I get? Reviews? Any help is welcomed!
Sent from my HERO running gingerbread. Suck on that, sprint.
i personally have a htc inspire. I think that in general most phones will have something you dislike. I would say with the inspire i pretty much love everything about it except for the battery life which is not too great on any smart phone. i will tell you that i love it for the big screen and the ability to root. i have modded it in several different ways and i have found that it has helped in terms of battery lie, speed, and functionality.
the inspire is on AT&T, right? You run gingerbread? Or cm7?

Should I Root my Evo 3D

I have had my Evo 3D for a couple of months now and I want to root it. My questions are. Should I do it? What are some problems if i do it? (example: when the evo 4g did not have 4g until they found the fix) What are some good ROM up there?
I rooted my Evo 4g and traded it for the Evo 3D,so I have very little experience.
Thanks if anybody can give me suggestions

The Evo 4G always had 4g. You may have been on a a rom that didn't have wimax (i.e MIUI)
As far as rooting your 3D...of course, if you enjoy the freedom of hotspot hacks, different themes, trying out the newest and coolest roms (i.e ICS), better battery life and many more reasons. If those things aren't important, don't root.
It is important, once you root your device and before you flash a new rom, that you make a nandroid(backup through recovery). It's nice to have something to go back to to update profile and prl.
Here is a thread you should check out for the latest and greatest roms, kernels, radios...

also don't forget about overclocking and such. I have just started getting into it but it is a definite plus to rooting!
Yes you should definitely root unless you like being a slave to phone restrictions and overall customization restriction or just having a generally boring phone.
Definitely, then you can find a JellyBean rom and not have to wait months for HTC
There are no disadvantages of rooting your phone, there are only advantages. However, Follow the safety instruction very carefully before you root your phone.

It depends: do you like hacking and tinkering with stuff? Are you computer-literate? Is your phone filled with crapware? Then yes.
If you're not really looking for anything other than to look cool then no.
I must tell you though, you can go down a rabbit hole pretty fast. First you root, fine. Then you install a custom ROM, that's not too bad. Then you start immersing yourself in this wonderful world of off-market apps and scripts. Then you realize you haven't slept in weeks because you're still trying to get that ****ing script to work.

How to Breathe New Life into your inherited myTouch 4g.

Are you about to inherit a myTouch 4g from one of your (relatives, friends, random hobo on the street)? Well then this thread it for you! Go ahead, talk about ways to update Android, custom ROM flashing, and just general tweaking!
One way to bring a 2-year old myTouch back from the dead is to flash a custom ROM onto it. ROMs range from the speed-increasing ones to even ROMs that update your myTouch to Jelly Bean, the latest version of Android. For example, here's a ROM by 0.0 that ports Codename Android to the myTouch 4g and updates it to our favorite colorful confection. The link to the original thread is below:

So, what clever myTouch 4g tips have YOU come up with? I bet that if we gather enough cool tips, all the people who get new phones and then look for ways to somehow reuse their myTouch (Recycling is good! ) will get referred to this thread!

BTW, thanks for the Noob Guide you put up for the myTouch 4g! I personally am about to get a myTouch from my friend whose contract is ending November 14, and your guide helped me a lot with figuring out whether to root or not!

From day one there was a reason for me to root mine. At this point there is absolutely no reason not to root your My Touch 4g. Even after 2 years of this device being out, there are still updated ROMS coming out for it ... Just today Viper Team came out with Viper Touch which is a sense 4.1 not to mention that there is already a huge collection of ROMS for the phone and honestly the DEVs for this phone and flat awesome ... Personal thanks to you guys for everything you do!!!
Seriously this phone will not die and the Devs have proven that they wont let it. It has been a solid phone.

I completely agree. The myTouch is a great phone and I believe it will soldier on, getting newer and newer versions of Android. Not only that, but it really doesn't have bad specs. I personally got lucky with my inherited one because it has the good screen and the good eMMC chip. ?
