[q] showcase help please! - Samsung Mesmerize

ok, so i rooted my showcase from element mobile using SuperOneClick, worked, then i put CWM on my showcase using Odin and that worked. but when i tried putting VOODOO on my showcase i couldnt get the link in the thread to open so i went to the project-voodoo.org website and took their 5.5 Froyo off the top of the list and again used Odin and it said it worked. But now when i try to turn on my showcase it tells me it is an I9000 instead of an I500 and the bootlogo gets a half second in then freezes. i cant even get to the red recovery list, it gives me the stock blue one... i really dont want to buy a new phone so please anybody help?

Uh oh...
You may have just learned the hard lesson of flashing things not built for your phone/provider. I have never seen anyone with that provider on here so I doubt anyone has a restore for it. Don't give up yet but it's not looking good.

yeah, ive been looking everywhere for something to get me back to froyo or anywhere working for that matter but this is killin me right now.

These cell providers are going to have to start naming there phones something other than showcase. I've been looking on the web and all I can find is cell south and ntelos. Sorry, hopefully the more experienced guys on here can come up with something.

i wish i could just reset everything...

Unfortunately without the stock files it will be almost impossible to "reset" the phone back to its original state. If you have a friend in your providers local office I would suggest cashing in a favor. There is still a possibility one of the XDA guru's may run across something so try and hang in there if ya can. One question. Is this prepaid or contract? When searching other forums there are some labeled prepaid and such and I personally have never heard of this provider.

If you have insurance you could always "lose" it and only have to pay the $100. Maybe not ethical but to each his own.

^ I've had to do that when I was with cingular.
Tap-a-Talked from my Mesmerize

that was the plan till i forgot i didnt have insurance on it... i put insurance on all my phones but i have no idea why i didnt for this one. im wondering if i can get her to send me the stock files through email and tell her i know how to do all that so then the dev gods on here have them

If you did get the stock ROM and kernel files then that would work. Problem may be that those files are normally quite large so emailing them may not be possible. But that's deffinately an idea. I would first see if they will fix the phone for ya. Then if you can get the files that's just a bonus at that point.

alright thanks for helpin me out, now its just up to Element..

Please keep us posted. Wanna make sure you get your phone fixed. Know how it is to have a busted phone.

Did you admit to rooting it?

only after the manager said even if i rooted it they would do what they could cuz he has three rooted phones and showed me one. he tried to look up stuff for me to do but he said the I500 is rare and there isnt much on Element mobile or the Showcase to help on fourms

[Q] Rooted phone with new contract?

Ok, well I'm getting a new HTC Thunderbolt today (Android) and am selling my old HTC DROID Incredible to a friend who's coincidentally just dropped his old Eris into a pool! Anyway, my question is this: I've rooted my D.Inc. and have Cyanogenmod 7.2 on it. Would I/he need to unroot and go back to the stock ROM to use the phone on his own contract? Thanks, let me know.
I don't believe so.
But where did you get CM7.2? There isn't even a 7.1 yet lol.
Sent from my Droid Incredible running CM7.
Thank you.
And you're right. I was messing the decimals up. I meant 7.0.2.1. It's on ROM Manager. lol, sorry for the confusion.
So I'll likely need to un-root?
I don't think you'll need to unroot, although I'm not 100% sure. I hope someone else can chime in with a more certain answer.
And its alright lol I was just like "wait a minute, beta? " lol
Sent from my Droid Incredible running CM7.
Yeah, I'm getting the same semi-certain answers that it'll be fine from the guys on the cyanogenmod forum. I think I'll just take the leap of faith...I don't see why it would be a problem.
I know at one point there was a place on the VZW website to change your phone and you just manually typed in the ESN of the new phone and voila new phone activated.
But, I never did try that w/a rooted phone

You don't happen to have a link for that, do you? I think my wife is gonna switch to my OG Droid, now that I have the T-Bolt, but I don't want to have to go back to stock from CM7 to take it back to the VZW store.
You should be able to call in to verizon and change it as well.
Long as you don't have an actual rep look at the phone, shouldn't be an issue.
Just dial *228 from it choose option 1 .. no laws against root just voids warranty and if you use wireless tether you breach terms

No you do not need to unroot. Just be careful if you bring it in to Verizon while rooted. I did, but I had my buddy switch my old phone to another family member and activate the new one so I really didn't care.

This is correct, when I got my TB I gave my wife my rooted OG Droid running CM7 and it activated for her just fine. I've also showed off my OG Droid to the reps at my VZW store all the time. Most of them were rocking rooted phones anyway, they just don't like it when you bring it in and try to lie about it being rooted when something goes wrong.
There's a link when he logs in to verizonwireless.com to activate new device. Just type in the ESN and choose a plan. I sold my fascinate running one of adrynalyne's roms and activated fit or my buddy from my thunderbolt that way. No problems at all.
Yeah, it seems to be that everyone agrees it'll work. I've committed to do it. When it's done and if it works I'll post it here for possible info purposes.
I activate them all the time. In most cases you can just dial *228 option 3 and follow the prompts to activate any Verizon phone anywhere. I work for a Verizon retailer.

I agree with most everyone but using the website never seems to work. And if the Verizon framework has been removed, good luck getting them to update it.
My suggestion would be to download a normalish Rom/stock and switch it over with him. It's got to be the fastest way. Good luck!

There will be no issues activating the phone, you do not have to unroot. Verizon cannot stop you from rooting, you just technically lose your warranty!

lies, their contract says that they can end your contract for using tampered with phones.
So no they can't stop you, but they can end your contract and force you to pay the cancellation fee, refuse to activate the phone, etc if you walk in and happen to talk to the wrong person.
doesn't mean they will, but they can.

Having Withdrawals Already!!!

Ok so today I mow my yard and I plug in my Thunderbolt in to the USB charger on my PC when I come inside my phone is bootlooping. So I think ok whatever I will flash one of the many backup's I made.
So I pull the battery and boot into the bootloader, then when I go into recovery after about 2 seconds the phone powers off and starts bootlooping again??? Ok that's a first for me and I have been flashing and rooting since launch day of the OG Droid, (ok, ok not since the first day but like a month later). So I pull the battery again this time for 30 minutes because I read someone else had something like this happen yesterday. When I put the battery back in same thing! Now I pull the battery for 4 hours...same outcome.
Now I'm thinking RUU time so I grab the stock RUU pull the SD card from my Thunderbolt pop it in my Incredible load the RUU renamed to PG05IMG.zip and put it back in the Thunderbolt. Load the bootloader and flash the RUU. Reboot after it's done and would you believe it...the same thing! the phone won't load past the splash screen before rebooting.
I forgot to mention before trying all this I tried using adb to reboot into recovery and I kept getting "error: device not found" and I know how to use adb.
It's only been about 9 hours since I've been able to use my 2.3.4 GingerBread with parts of 3.0 Sense Thunderbolt and I already having withdrawals how am I going to make the next 2 to 3 weeks while it's being repaired???
Ok end rant...

I understand your rooted but if it cant boot up then there is a problem. Just go to verizon and show them. Once they see it cant boot properly they will exchange it or overnight one to you.

Well then relate your problem with his. Just saying "your losing faith in Thunderbolt" tells me nothing. Don't mean to sound like an a$$, just saying. When I read your first comment I got nothing from it.
That being said...I haven't been a Bolt owner for long, but it does seem like a strange issue. You would think flashing a radio or backup would resolve the issue. But hasn't.
//Tap'd on my TBolt while grounded\\
Definitely sounds like a Warranty Issue. I'd try to get it exchanged if no one can come up for a solution to the problem.
I had a G1 back in the day that had some odd problem and I was rooted, Tmo looked at it and wouldn't touch it. So, I called HTC. I told them that I purchased the phone off Craigslist so Tmo couldn't help me, and asked how the warranty works on their end. They said that since the production of the phone started less than a year ago, they knew it was still eligible for warranty even without a receipt. There would be a triage fee if it was found to be a non-warranty issue, and it was something like $40 including the shipping back. I acted dumb when they asked if it was rooted...asked them what that meant? LOL. Sent it in, they fixed it and sent it back to me, no charge. Fast too. I was very happy and that is why I have stuck with HTC since then. It may or may not work for you, but it was painless for me.

They don't care. Take my word for it. If it never boots they won't care.
I'm actually having this exact same issue. Has anyone found a solution yet or is the only solution to have the phone replaced?
Wow. I thought for sure hbooting the unsigned stock RUU would fix this. How about hbooting a signed ruu? It wouldn't hurt at this point.
Also make sure when you renamed the pgimg05. Zip that there was nothing at the end of the extention. I've heard some people say that windows has been known not to show that full file extension correctly.

I thought hbooting the stock RUU would fix it as well, and yep it was named correctly. It's funny because it would stay on the hboot screen as long as I let it with no issue what so ever but within 2 seconds of going into recovery it would reboot.
I went back to Best Buy today as that is where I bought it to see how much they would charge to ship it out to be fixed. The mobile manager remembered me because I was 1st on the pre-order list. (I'm sure we all remember the train wreck the Best Buy pre-orders became) So any way he really went out of his way to help me. He said he has had 3 other Thunderbolts brought in for the same issue. He was able to send my phone in under their Black Tie program.
I told him I rooted the phone and was willing to pay for the repairs but he said he was pretty sure that the other 3 phones were not rooted. He said that he knew FOR SURE that at least one of the phones was not rooted because the lady that owned it did not have any branches in her family tree, (his words not mine). Since he has seen it 3 times he was not charging me. He only asked that I had the stock hboot on the phone. I had already flashed that in my attempt to get it running.
I'm with cstrife, I managed to destroy my tab with a mix of flashing and charging via outlets in India. It bootlooped for a while then just kind of gave up and began to display a strange download screen when I plugged it in to charge. I brought it to VZW and played stupid, I told them I woke up and it had this weird screen... I had a brand new one at my door the next morning and haven't heard a word from them... It probably just costs more to check it out deep enough to find out its rooted than it does to just give you a refurbished one, gut swap yours, and then send to someone else as a refurbished one...

Verizon store and my phone

I went into the verizon store today to get a case for the TB and the sales associate looked at my phone and was like whoaaaaa, this phone is fast. He looked at it again and started to ask about the phone. First thing I asked was if I tell you, will it void my warranty. He was like nope we flash our phones too. He took it to another associate and they were intrigued about the lock screen and the speed. He asked what ROM was on it. i told him it was a new ROM supposedly based off of the official GB build. The guy was like he needed to find this build fast. It's a shame that the verizon personnel thinks some of the software that was released on the the TB is crap.
i traded by Incredible 2 for a Thunderbolt from someone on these forums. The Thunderbolt had Das BAMF 4.9 on it and I had to take it to verizon to get a new SIM card(+ had them register the phone to my account so i didn't have to). the sales associate was all "i've never seen a rooted Thunderbolt before" and was playing around with it excitedly.
so he seen you playing with it or he was installing the case?
Lol so funny story about verizon, I work at best buy so of course I never deal with verizon. I went into the verizon store by our best buy when the tbolt first came out to play with it. I opened up the boot loader and put it into recovery mode just so they had to activate the alarm and do a battery pull. True story.
funny story. what rom where you using?
I called verizon customer service because i was having issues
w/ not getting 3g lol. I could get 4g but if i turned it off i'd be
stuck on 1x.
we talked for awhile troubleshooting and then she wanted me to
check my software info and read it off to her. radio... ok
prl...ok software number.... (me) " uhh i'm getting a real bad
connection i'm going to have to call back" haha at the time I was
running a bamf remix rom. come to find out when i got home..
i had my radio toggled to cdma only and not cdma auto haha.
Something similar happened when I went with my girlfriend to have my old dInc activated on her account. The guy knew I'd rooted it, but I didn't let him touch it because I didn't really feel like letting him see "Wireless Tether" on there. So I clean it up and we go in there. The guy is shuffling through menus and just blurts out "This is the fastest Incredible I've ever seen!", completely forgotten it was rooted and OC'd. The big ****-eating grin on my face reminded him it was rooted. He got real confused over the 4G settings on the dInc too. (Sprint EVO based ROM) Showed him the Tbolt the day after I bought it and rooted it and he showed it to the manager. The manager had lots of questions... but none of them to do with my account or warranties or contract terms, thankfully. Verizon staff really do look at rooted phones like pink unicorns in many cases. It's good entertainment if you're bored while your wife/girlfriend is shopping.

showing that even 13 year olds (or those that didnt pass the maturity of being 13) are welcomed on xda?
I can tell you right now after managing a Verizon store for 3 years employees most likely will not even know if your phone is rooted and if they do that means they have probably rooted their phone as well. I'll be the first to say that I think its BS they load all the crapware onto these devices. Just don't let them know its rooted if you are trying to get a replacement of course. That's about the only time the will care.

Every time I have gone into our Verizon store in Florence, KY, the techs/reps and I usually get into conversations about the ROMs and/or hacks we use on our phones and rooting and stuff. Its nice knowing my store has intelligent people working in them, even if they aren't managed by them at the corporate offices. I can't stand dealing with sales people that have no flippin clue about the products they sell. *cough* radio shack *cough*

CRUSHED:2 month old Rocket Is now a Turtle HELP!

Used Superoneclick rooted two of these Skyrockets Running ST two months ago.Ive kept the 2.3.5 that came with it,and just put on golauncher or spb shell 3d.Never been happier. Both phones speedtest between 3-8m,just perfect for a non LTE smaller city..Just couldnt be happier.
But the incidents in the last three days have turned my jubilation to a bleak grey, crushed existence.Im seeing red and i ran here.I pray to the xda gods for wisdom and patience.
Few days ago being the noob i am (few easy roots in 3 years) i decided to meddle with my precious skyrocket, and its spb shell..Was getting errors of various sorts trying to re-install apps i shouldve payed for.(from now on i vow to pay for each and every paid apk i install-im so done) Including spb-though i payed for it on my g account,it was on my girls phone with my gmail as well, which i paid for it but only to be on her phone not mine...
Long story short i went arount deleting caches im sure i shouldnt and possibly cwm stuff too..i have no idea what i deleted exactly,or remember, because im a noob and an idiot.
Everything works fine on the phone but the one thing that matters the most to me..the data..the internet is so slow...Speedtest used to be around 4m or 6m,now im lucky if its .1m Takes 5-15 minutes for a small market app to download..
I can send and receive pic messages, make phone calls etc etc...
But my speed is gone... I called straight talk and of course they told me they dont throttle, instead they would cut my phone right off if i had downloaded too much..
I even tried changing apns,i used my girls sim,and that didnt even do it..
So finally i unrooted after one factory restore... still crawling..
so i just did another factory restore, still crawling..
One thing i can say is that at&t was trying to OTA a huge update in the previous days...but it wasnt installing...Maybe it installed something?
HELP ME puh puh pleeez
One simple question. Can you get into download mode? If you so you can flash the phone back to stock. You can download the firmware 2.3.6 from www.sammobile.com Just do a search on sgh-i727 and it bring up the list. you just need to make an account to get the download. I would start over and start fresh.
Also you may want to think about what you have running, what all apps you have running in the background that could be stealing up some of the data.

ok well you asked if i could get into download mode... Which i just tried (for testing purposes-and without getting Odin etc etc)
it is saying DOWNLOADING-DO NOT TURN OFF TARGET....What do i do now?
the odin link is dead and am downloading the other stuff on my pc
You can just do a battery pull to get out of download mode and restart the phone.
Download odin from here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17548951&postcount=1
it still says downloading after pulling battery...should i unplug usb?
yes, because you do not have all the files yet. But this is good to know and it should not be any problems getting you back to square one.
If you're on stock 2.3.5 just download the kj2 modem and reflash in cwm no need for Odin.

Sounds like your cell network went to doodoo is all. Didn't sound like you were messing with it bad enough to break anything.
so let me ask you all this question...
If in fact my cell company is throttling me, thats usually a month-long thing? or is it permanente????

That is what i am understanding too!
But there is no other explanation for my issues...
Like i said,me and my gf both have new skyrockets, both for two months.
both have ST sims, same apns settings..
Her sim and phone are fine..her sim in mine is slow
MY sim in HER phone is slow...
Did two factory restores and upgraded from 2.3.5 to ICS..Still nothing..
It can only be throttling or hardware...
Wifi is fine...
So... what is it? Hardware or Throttling..i dont know
I can tell you the posts over @ Howards forum (straight talk forum) are growing rapidly for throttling issues...
Beleieve me,i REALLY want to beleive ST doesnt throttle,i think they may have finally started tho....
This may be a stretch,
But is there a place on xda where i could download the correct apn settings for a straight talk sim in this skyrocket?
yes yes i know there are many places where i can go find the settings to manually put them in,but for various reasons, i would like the actual file to load in apn backup and restore app....
Anyone know where i could snag that?
