[Q] Infuse with different Kernal - Samsung Infuse 4G

A little new here. I just installed the Infuse custom rom and am looking to flash a different kernal onto my phone. How would I go about doing this?

the same way you flashed a custom rom. though, if you are running a custom rom, you are most likely running the custom kernel it came with. for example, gtg465x's infused rom includes gtg365x's voodoo kernel, and the refuse rom includes the defuse kernel. you can still flash the zip of any kernel you like for the infuse if you dont want the rom's default kernel.

What does kernel flashing do?

Coming from the Captivate, which was my first Android phone. I never had to flash a kernel. I just downloaded the rom I wanted and flashed that. I have not rooted my Inspire yet, but will be soon. I haven't decided what rom I want to flash yet. It is between a few of them:
1. ClearDroid Inspire
2. CoreDroid Gingerbread 2.3.3
3. LeeDroid v.2.2.2
4. Android Revolution 4.2 B2 Gingerbread
All of them but ClearDroid's requires you to flash a kernel, what is that and how do you do it?
Do I place both the rom and the kernel on to the SD card, flash the rom, then some how flash the kernel? Do I do it the same as in flashing the rom through CWM? What does the kernel do?
Sorry I am still new to rooting and I want to learn more about. Any information would help out..
Thanks.

[q] !!!using rom manager to install cm7!!!

I know a while back when i installed cm7 on my vibrant i had to do a lot of steps with clrad and flashing kernels one at a time... if i install with "rom manager" do i need to do any other step? does it change the kernel and everything for me already???
All ROMs have Kernels, otherwise they wouldn't work. If you want CM7 you can flash the latest Nightly using Rom Manager and aside from selecting to flash the gapps package too, there's no need to flash anything else.
Custom Kernels can be flashed from Recovery after the fact if you feel the need to try them.

possible to have voodoo recovery on stock firmware?

I would really like to know if this is possible. having issues and thinking of going back to stock. can anyone tell me how to specifically install voodoo on stock kj2 firmware?
I found a post in the dev section that has a flashable kernel with voodoo. possible to flash that kernel to stock rooted firmware?
I went back to stock, rooted, installed clockworkmod, flashed the bali kernel, and now i have voodoo and it is awesome! had i known all about voodoo and known i could have it just by flashing a kernel, I never would have flashed a custom rom.

[Q] Kernel Flash Help...

Currently running a SkyRocket i727 with GB 2.3.5. I have ROM Manager, Root Explorer and ROM Toolbox installed and the device is rooted. Also flashed CWM. I would like to flash my kernel to one that allows me to replace/modify the boot animation. I tried this one from Da_G:
ponack.net/TPC/dagnarf/cwm-ke...el-0.43-v2.zip
On reboot, I get a "Process system....." failure and the phone won't do anything. Pulled the battery, booted in CWM and restored from backup. Phone is working now.
Can someone help me with doing a kernel flash that will work? The ROM is the stock ROM. I was told that you can flash the kernel without having to flash a new ROM.
Thanks.
This is my favourite gb kernel

If that doesn't work try Eugene's sgs2 streamline kernel

Yes, all you need to do is download the stock verizon rom for this phone onto your computer and Odin back to stock using PDA. Only use the PDA section in Odin. If you didn't change kernels then you don't need to flash the kernel, because the kernel is already the stock one. You can use custom kernels on Synergy. I'm using a custom kernel on synergy 1.3. What I did was downloaded the verizon ez recovery app from the play store, give it root permissions when you open it. Included in that ex recovery is a few different recoveries including CWM and TWRP and invisibleks v2 kernel. You can flash a kernel using that program. You simply just select the kernel and hit flash and then reboot recovery. The only downside is that when you flash a kernel you lose your recovery. But since you have the easy recovery, you just flash a recovery and you'll get a recovery back. Its really simple and awesome! I'm using Imoseyons Lean kernel v12 and it allows over clocking to 1.9! And under locking as well. I'm getting phenomenal battery life.
Current~Samsung Galaxy S3 SynergyRom 1.3 & Imo's Lean Kernel v12 Oc'd @ 1.9mhz

Past~Droid X Gummy ICS 1.2

It shouldn't matter if you have a flashed a custom Kernel. Just Odin the stock ROM
Also if you want to go completely back I believe you will also need to flash the stock recovery and possible the flash counter.
