Hello Everyone

Hello everyone, just wana introduce myself. My name is Sofia and I love cellphones and new technology. I purchased captivate a month ago my first android phone. It's very fast and amazing. One of my friend told me about this site so I decided to join it. Lately my phone is been laggy and very slow. Can someone please help me and let me know what can I do to make it faster. Thank everyone

Start by reading through some of the stickies here and in the other Cappy subforums. Lots of good info. Searching before posting is also appreciated. Welcome.

Hi Sofia welcome,
I'll assume you got it brand new and is running a stock ROM. I would say that there is something running in the background that is slowing you down some. I'd take a look at which/how many apps you have, and maybe delete the ones you don't use anymore. Do you know if you're running 2.1 or 2.2?
What you'll mostly find here at XDA are folks that love to mod, well love might not be a strong enough word, we're OBSESSED. So what you will most assuredly get from people is "Try sun-in-such's ROM, it's the best!"

Hi everyone im running 2.1 it came like that out of the box. Since im a girl I like phones that is simple and easy to use. I've used iPhones and blackberrys but im happy with android cause I can customize my screen to pink color. I would love to do mods but it seems very complicated since im not used to android and not very technical minded

You're probably better off not doing any mods then. Sorry if that sounds mean, but unless you're tech savvy to some minimal degree and comfortable with the idea of voiding your warranty and possibly bricking your phone, you're probably better off just leaving it stock.

Is it that hard? I was reading through forum and looking at roms how is serendipity or cm7? Im learning slowly as I read. Do I just put rom on my SD card? How does it work?

Swyped from my Froyo-ed Captivate.

Welcome Sofia ! I also have a Rogers Captivate (have a Focus too) and running it on FIDO with few issues. Try upgrading to 2.2 using Keis. That in itself was no fun, but at least it will give you some idea of updating/modding the phone.

Please don't be fooled into thinking this stuff is really easy. There are already a bunch of threads from people who tried to use CM7 and messed up their phones. Flashing isn't that hard, but it is also pretty easy to screw up. Settle for upgrading to stock Froyo and then read, read, read.

It's not hard, but it's easy to botch it if you don't know what you're doing. If you're going to try your hand at flashing a custom rom, make sure you read about and understand the process enough to where you don't have to make guesses and assumptions. Also, jumping straight to cm7 is a terrible idea - flashing cm7 is a lot more involved than flashing any of the other roms found in the dev section, and if you don't know what you're doing you'll almost certainly end up with some sort of brick.
Read through the stickied threads. They contain a lot of useful information, which is why they're at the top of each subforum. Fill in the knowledge gaps by searching. There's more than enough information in the Captivate forum alone, let alone all of XDA, to teach you how to do everything from some simple modifications to building your own custom firmware.

It is really easy. It's just also really easy to screw up. But since you're a girly girl who likes things simple and easy (because you're a girl) and you have a girly name, guys will be stepping all over each other to help you and they'll be really polite.

Lets get evild a g2x!

I'm sure many of you are firmilar with evild's work on the n1, mt4g and other highend devices. I happened to flash his 3.0 rom on my wifes mt4g sand got to chatting with him. Hes interested in getting a g2x, so I told him id attempt to orchestrate a collection of funds to buy him a g2x. First things first, what will a no contract g2x cost? What is the cheapest anyone has seen one for sale off contract? Secondly, if anyone has an upgrade they are willing to donate, THAT WOULD BE PHENOMENAL! I'm good for $100 to start things off. That is why I hate xda bunch of free loading crack flashers that don't help the Dev. community just piss people off and whine for help when they get in trouble....... count me in for 20 bucks

Very good question... I can only assume so, since alot of his work is done with sense ui. I sent him a pm with the link to this thread, so as he reads through it, I'm sure he'll clarify on that.

haha yea a little part of me died when the sense roms stopped for the N1

Yea, I guess I didn't miss it all that much because I went straight from the n1 to the mt4g. So I almost immediately had evil support again lol.

have you been on the internet long? people are people. and you'll find people like that on any forum. i've seen people talking like that online since before the internet was mainstream. it's not only xda. there is no way to stop it. so just get used to it. but, i got your back on voicing your opinion as well. what xda needs is a dislike button. i've seen them on other sites. and after so many dislikes,your post gets hidden and members have to click "show" to see it.

People like you thinking it's ok to use these Roms for free without donating a dime is a FAIL!
These Devs work hard and long hrs. to make these roms for your phone to function and look better!
So a little donation wouldn't hurt for you to give!
Or better yet if you don't, don't bother commenting on it!
Don't look at it as paying for there phone, but rather an advance for work they are going to do for you!

Your idea is ingenious. I will take it up with a friend whose a mod here and see what he thinks. Not sure it will get too far but you never know.

That is a very good idea. Giving thumbs down to certain posters would warn other readers at this forum. It would also be useful against scammers who steal the Dev's work and pawn the mods as their own begging for donations. There was one on the Samsung Epic forum last year and on the Asus Transformer forum a few weeks ago.

I've been on the internet for awhile... a lot of forums and yes I know there are always negative people... I can be one of them... at times... but I hate how broad the ignorance on this site is..

it might now have any custom roms, but maybe if you would read instead of complain you would see that the MODS we have for the stock roms turn the phone into a powerful beast just like any other HTC phone, **** i just compared my phone to my homies HTC ATRIX 4g and mine is better then his with his custom roms
also, custom roms will be on the way probably mid summer to be honest
it might just be me but id rather get a phone with no DEV work and work on it myself then to be a whining baby and expect things done for me and complain when they are not

Hate to be brutely honest but development on this phone is super slow and non existent. To be honest im really surprised though all i want is CM7 or a Gb port.

1.never said the phone was bad it is really good

understandable not your cup of tea
voodoo sound fix is the only voodoo we have for the phone
a lot is more to come because one of the devs is about to have the phone to work on
and not just building codes blindly with no test

I am not complaining i just came from a over anxious group in the g tablet forum. I will say i started trying to port cm7 and with out the proper know how or doing it before i found the information on porting was not accurate so i stopped. Once the dev that is getting the phone to play with starts porting alot more will follow i know. Regardless with mod the phone is hella fast. Also want to state another mod to try is upping your vmheap to 64m made a huge diff with bali kernel and fugu tweaks.

Slow? You have to be kidding me. This phone blows my evo out of the water! I get 64 fps on neocore UNDERCLOCKED to 800MHz.

Enjoy the read. I was once on the fence to which is better and more stable.
Now its no second guessing after a weeks of use with the sensation which is better.

Honest review I guess. I personally think you should have waited or flashed CM7 before jumping ship. You'd be much happier with the more powerful G2x with a fully working rom.

wow, you know what roms I flashed? lol I did man. CM7 was nice, but buggy. I had a n1 with CM 6 nightlies and they were much better.
Good luck with the G2x. Im just happy I gave the sensation a try cause I was all about cm7 and what your saying....

I honestly think the G2x is better all around. Better screen, processor, Rootable, etc.
The G2x doesn't even have gingerbread yet. It will be just pure awesomeness then.
I do respect your decision and wish you well with your Sensation.

I sure hope GB fixes a lot of the issues and that it comes out soon. The g2x is a really really nice device, but those damn bugs. I know the sensation has them too but not nearly as wide spread.
I really would have liked to keep the g2x. hell if they release a good g2x when back in stock. Ill pick up another.

I think the dust under the glass bothers you more than you think. The paragraph you wrote describing it is longer than everything else

I'm from Hawaii and I have more friends and family then I can count on my fingers and toes who has/are serving in the military. Some who have been on multiple deployments to Afghan and Iraq. And yet none of them have ever said or pulled the "I served your country so give some respect." #justsaying
anyways good luck with the sensation.
now can we please stop cluttering the G2X FORUM with sensation crap! Keep that in the sensation forum.

ok i been modding for 4 years now from g1 to g2x and wp7...just got this sidekick 4g today have it root ready to go but theres no active download links to any roms wtf?!?! so if anyone can can email me any zips that be great this is soooo lame!!

It's because no developer wanted this phone, and I don't blame them.

That's the truth though, if no one wants to develop for this device then obviously you won't find roms for it. It's just that simple.

and what i said is true too, its a freakin pipe dream to wish for anything great anymore. phone was a piece of trash, and it always will be because Samsung abandoned it so quickly. i thank the devs for what they did, i really do, but the fact is this device was doomed from the start.
