au japan wifi xoom unlock bootloader and root - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just got a wifi xoom from au kddi japan, and i want to unlock the bootloader and root it. However AU released the stock 3.1 japanese update today, and I downloaded and installed it.
Question: Do the same rules apply in unlocking and rooting my xoom after installing the stock update?
Did anyone made a video on how to unlock and root a non-us wifi only xoom?
Thanks

According to Russian forum http://4pda.ru/forum/index.php?showtopic=221608&st=360&start=360
the stock 3.1 Japanese update supports SD card! There is directory /sdcard-ext, which is actually SD card.
It has build number: H.6.4-15. Kernel 2.6.36.3 [email protected]#1 and it has Firmware configuration version string: GAS_ASIA_HUBKDDI_P007.
ring_GT, could you please confirm that? I mean SD card support.

i confirmed that the japan's 3.1 have sd card support natively.....(trying to see if root and kernel will work now...let u know in a bit)
edit 1: kernel and CWM works........if u use roottool_3.1...it will boot loop......trying to see if rooting using adb is working
edit 2: i wasn't able to root....and getting a little fustrated........

yap the update here activated the sd card slot. does that change the unlocking/rooting process?

Thanks in advance!

It won't let me post links but search Google for "japan xoom root" and you will see a blog called "softbanksucks" I wrote that post when I updated mine.
@Ring_GT I just realized I have already been talking with you on that blog

From all the threads in general, it would seem the update does unroot your phone. Also from those threads it would seem flashing a custom recovery and, subsequently, the su zip will give you root back. I don't know of a pre-rooted version out yet.
i just upgraded to ics a little while ago using rom manager, i had to go back to stock 2.3.3 which unrooted my phone but did not lock the phone . I was wondering the same thing and that is how the heck do i root my phone now lol. my phone still shows the unlocked lock on the boot up screen under "Google" but i dont have SU permissions anymore. if I still have su.zip file and cwm can i just use fastboot and flash the img and su.zip ?
What if I don't have my original files to roll back to stock GB? I just downloaded the version Koush put up on his twitter...will that allow me to flash in CWM and update?

Download stock images from from manager then update to 2.3.6 then you can flash the one from koush's twitter.
Root will be lost after update. Currently flashing su.zip wont work. Still trying to figure it out.

We might just have to re*root when they release the info.

Let me ask you also, I'm currently running Alpha13 w/ Francisco.Franco kernel. Is the official that much smoother that I should lose my root?

[Q] How to root after updating to 4.0.4 Official

I just did the update to Android 4.0.4 through Kies today. As I've determined I'm not a fan of Touchwhiz, I'd like to root my Skyrocket.
Does anyone know if the root process for 2.3.6 would also work for this version? If not, does anyone know where I could find how to root the device?
Search is your freind. LOL even thou it says for ics leak, it works on the factory stuff as well as GB 2.3.6

I rooted the stock ICS earlier today via this method, and can confirm that it works.
I used this method on UCLF5 and root explorer routinely has problems mounting system. Not sure why.
You need to make sure u have busybox installed. I know that works for me, for i used to have the same issues. It didnt matter if it was GB or ics. Iam sure others will disagree, but just telling how i fixed that problem on my phone.

I need a little help here, Noobie that I am.....I had rooted sr brought it back to stock and then upgraded it to ics 4.04 stock. Then rooted it again using the methods found in this thread. I got it to take after the third time and it show superuser in the apps section and I can open it. I downloaded pro copy of titanium pro and the free version but it tells me the phone is not rooted:crying: I and that I need to ensure I have busybox. I download that also and i still cannot get titanium to knowledge the root. Any suggestions would be most helpful. I would like to freeze some of the bloatware as I did when I had gingerbread 2.36 and had titanium running.
update: used the newest version of superuser and installed busybox installer and still no go. I downloaded root check and it says not rooted. guess when I get home tonight I will re-root again....
Just use cwr with odin 1.85 use latest superuser 3 05 efghi. You may have to do it at least 3 times until is done

how do i get a new Os

Hello I have gingerbread, but I bought it used and the guy had it rooted. So now the phone is always trying to update to ics but it can't because its rooted. All these popup messages are getting really annoying. So I just want to either update to ics or get a custom rom. Idk which one is better and I have no idea how to do either. Please help, thanks.
You should get rommanager and flash cwm recovery. Then donwload a ota that can be flashed with cwm and flash it. After that download the superuser zip to gain root again, flash it and you are set.
Good luck.

Yes it will wipe everything (apps, data) but NOT your sd card. If you have titanium Backup use that, I but I'm guessing you don't. The OP does say that it will wipe your phone also.

There is a way... If you can access /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/modem you can grab a copy by doing a "cat /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/modem > /modem.bak" or something. I'm no expert but that's how I did something like this before. Not sure if root is needed.

Yes, just make sure you have both the modem and the fsg file and you're set. The .bat file automates the fastboot commands, so whatever you are comfy with!

If you are interested in flashing it you must be almost fully stock. As in not flashed the stock rooted odex. If you haven't flashed any roms or kernel then you can just open this zip then open firmware.zip and extract the recovery.img from the zip and fastboot flash recovery recovery.img. then you will be able to run the ota
