[Q] a problem: can't mount sd card - Defy Android Development

Hi guys,
I try unsuccessfully to install rom CM7 on my Motorola Defy.
I rooted the phone and used SndInitDefy 1.4.2 to install the CWM recovery version 2.5.1.8.
On the CWM recovery, when I choose "install zip from sd card" and then "choose zip from sd card", i get this message:
Code:
e: can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (or /dev/clock/mmcnlk0)
not such file or directory
e: can't mount /sdcard
I tried it with 2 different sd cards. Of course the computer and the phone (when its on) recognize the cards as well.
What am I doin wrong?
thanks for your help.
evy

A new problem:so I burn with rsd a new firmware: this.
I successfully mount the sd card and install the cm7 rom.
When I rebooted my phone, I had the cm7 welcome screen and...that's all. I only have the welcome screen with the circle and the rotating arrow. it stuck. I can't turn off the phone or enter again to recovery, even when I take off the battery and turn on again.
Please, what could I do to fix it?

[Q] CWM - lg-p990 - cannot install ROM

Hello,
I've a little problem with my lg-p990:
I've successfully rooted and installed CWM on my phone using cyanogen howto (cannot post URL, sorry, n00b inside )
Now I'm wanting to install cyanogen - but it seems to have a problem with the sdcard: it cannot mount it
Here are the versions:
romManager: 4.2.0.2
CWM recovery: 3.0.2.8
Error message:
("Install rom from sdcard" > "chose zip from sdcard")
E:can't mount /sdcard
I've tried to install the ROM via the "install rom from the SD" - same proble, sdcard seems to timeout.
I've tried plugged to the laptop, plugged to power cord, and unplugged - same error all the way
Any help will be welcomed.
Thank you in advance.

you did sd-ext partition?
you did sd partition??
do those things & try
Hu? what do you mean by that?
I tried to put the ROM on external and internal sd.. should I remove the external one maybe ?
I'll have a try with that - just the time to backup my stuff to be sure.
Cheers,

Reformat your sd card especially if it is partitioned
I did that many times. Even did it with another android phone. Also used other sdcard from my android phone.
I'm having this problem too.
Any ideas?

Please take a look at this thread. I'm not trying to boost myself but keep you guys from having problems. I don't know if this is your problem (bad recovery from CWM) but it's been happening to a lot of smart people.

"E:failed to mount /sdcard (No such file or directory)"
I have been trying to flash the 3.2.2 ROM on my Verizon branded 4g+WiFi Xoom and I am receiving the same message when I choose apply zip from USB:
E:failed to mount /sdcard (No such file or directory)
I have tried three different microSD cards, 512MB, 16GB class 4, and 32GB class10. I get the same message no matter what card is tried. It does not seem to be able to see its own internal storage or the external microSD card.
I was following the steps and another odd thing is that I do not have the options to perform and Nandroid backup. I have the purchased version of ROM Manager but I need root access to be able to install ClockworkMod... Since my tablet is already at 3.2.2 all I really needed was root anyway so I can run Cisco Anyconnect VPN that required root.
Any tips on getting the Xoom to see or mount the SD card, either one, would be appreciated.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Step 1: Getting Ready to Flash Rooted Honeycomb in Xoom
1. Download the ROM Android-HC-3.2.2-Stock+Rooted-1.1-SOLARNZ.zip and save the file on your desktop.
2. Once done, connect your tab to the computer, mount SD Card or SD Ext and copy the downloaded Zip file to SD Card root. .
Step 2: Put Motorola Xoom in Recovery Mode
First you need to reboot Motorola Xoom in Recovery Mode, after that you can perform a factory reset on Xoom. Follow the steps below:
1. Turn your device on, then switch it back on
2. On startup when Motorola logo appears, press and hold Volume Down button
3. When Android recovery text appears, press the Volume Up button. Your device will now enter in recovery mode.
Note: In recovery mode, you can navigate up and down using Volume Up and Volume Down keys while Power button can be used to select an option.
Step 3: Take Nandroid Backup
1. Once in recovery mode, press & hold Power button.
2. While holding the Power button, press & release the Volume Up button.
3. Navigate to “backup and restore” and select it.
4. Select “backup” to perform your data backup.
Step 4: Factory Reset Motorola Xoom
1. Once Nandroid backup is complete, navigate to Wipe data / factory reset, then press Power button to select it.
2. It will ask for confirmation, select Yes, delete all user data option to factory reset Xoom.
Step 5: Flash Rooted Honeycomb 3.2.2 ROM
1. Select Flash Zip from SD Card
2. Then select choose zip from sd card
3. Select the zip file that you put onto the root of SD card.
4. Wait for process to complete.
And there you go! You are now on the latest Android Honeycomb version and are all set to explore what’s new. In case you are facing any issues or just want to thank the ROM chef. Do let us know in the comments section just in case if you face any issues while updating your device in the comments section as just in case if you face any issues then we will try to solve them at the earliest.
I suspect that you updated your recovery via ROM Manager to a version that doesn't recognize the external sdcard. You need to flash the solarnz R4C cwm
recovery v 3.2.0.0. Rom Manager is a pain.
Also please don't flash that 3.2.2 ROM. It will break your connectivity. If you have 4G, you can flash the Odachi kernel.
Had a problem similar to yours. Make sure you have your sdcard mounted completely in it's slot. Make sure you turn the xoom off when mounting.
4g xoom root failed
ok i attempted the 5 steps but i dont get an option for a backup nor an option to install zip file, the closest is 'apply update from usb drive' then i get the E:/failed to mount /sdcard (no such file or directory). card is mounted correctly. i bypassed the backup and just did the rest, same issue. should i keep it plugged into pc while doing all this, i plug in to copy zip file then unplug it.
Assuming that you have the correct recovery version installed (see my previous post), you should keep the sdcard mounted in your Xoom. Make sure it is actually mounted. A reboot with the card seated in its slot will usually do it.
You could at least read over this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1249798
and check the steps listed against what you have done. That often helps.
exactly what i needed detailed instructions for dummies. hopefully i will be succesful this time, taking a break for a day this stuff is for programmers, lol.

I encountered the same issue.
It appears the XOOM does not like SD Cards that were formatted using Windows
(or perhaps Quick Formatted using Windows).
Using a 4GB FlashDrive formatted as Fat32 using Linux (i.e. Linux Mint 17.3 Cinnamon 64 bit boot CD)
resolved the issue.

[Q] Clockworkmod does not apply update.zip

Hello everybody!
I'm stuck in a problem I can not solve. I have Toshiba Folio 100 with Rom Cyanogenmode 7.1.
I'm not satisfied, and I would like to return to Foliomod 1.4. But when I enter recovery mode, and i try to flash Foliomod with file update.zip on a SD-card, I receive the following message:
E: Can't open /sdcard/update.zip
(No such file or directory)
If I try the option "Install zip from sdcard" and then "Choose zip from sdcard" in the folder "sdcard-disk0/" I cannot find file update.zip.
So I'm stuck, and there is no way to flash a different Rom. Any idea!? Thanks to all those who can help me!
Davide
Make sure you put the Update.zip on the internal SD Card of your phone. Not the external add in SD card you provided. It is a good idea to remove your external SD card during these type of operations. To protect any data you have on the external SD card.
Maybe the file “update.zip” has been damaged
It's a mess!!!!
My Folio 100 is bricked. When I start, I see the screen "touch the Android to begin" and there is no way to continue. I already tried to make factory reset, but nothing happens. It returns the screen "touch the android to begin" and nothing happens.
I can't flash any other rom, because it does not read the SD Card. What can I do?

sdcard mount issue in Recovery

I am looking for some help with my sdcard on my P3113
I can no longer mount my sdcard in recovery. "Error mounting /sdcard!" any time I try. Here is what I have done so far to try and fix it:
Reflashed CWM 6. No difference
Flashed CWM 5. No difference.
Used Odin to return the device to stock.
Flashed CWM 5. Still same issue
Flash CWM 6. Still same issue.
Any reason I can't mount my SDCARD anymore in recovery or any suggestions on what I can do next to fix it?

Have you tried formatting the card?
Yes, I have tried multiple different cards also and they mount just fine once the ROM is booted.
Which SD Card (internal or external)? Also, does the SD Card mount properly when booted into Android? I had the external sd fail to mount in recovery, when to use it in Android, and it wasn't recognized there either. Had to do a reformat before my tablet could recognize it again.

The problem is with the External SD card not be accessable while in recovery. Once I am booted into the OS I am able to access it and use whatevers on it no problem. I have formated the first card and that didn't help, so I switch to a different card and that didn't work either. I have tried flashing Recovery again as well as returning to full stock and rerooting. Recovery just won't see the card. It's not that big of a deal, i just want to make sure I am not going to start having other problems too...
same device, same problem, using cyanogenmod 13.

[Q] HELP! Stuck in recovery and SD won't mount

Alright, I'm still running 4.1.2, and I used the 1-click method to root, unlock, and flash CWM recovery. Everything was going fine, until I got into recovery and all I'm seeing is
E: Can't mount /cach/recovery/command
E: Can't mount /cach/recovery/log
E: Can't open /cach/recovery/log
E: Can't mount /cach/recovery/last_log
E: Can't open /cach/recovery/last_log
If I try to click "choose zip from sdcard," I get
E: Can't mount /sdcard/
I have tried formatting the sdcard on another phone, but that didn't seem to help.
If I try to reboot, it boots right back into CWM recovery.
EDIT: Ok, I booted into Odin mode, then when it loaded into that I canceled, and it booted into the OS....wow. So, that doesn't explain the SD card not mounting in recovery though. I tried TWRP and it did the same thing. When in the actual OS the SD card mounts fine and can be browsed, etc.
I reflashed TWRP just because I'm more comfortable with it...it doesn't boot loop. Just have to get it to see that damn sd card.
EDIT 2: Alright, it seems I'm just answering all my questions tonight lol. I flashed the modded version of TWRP from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2391616
Everything is great now!
all you had to to was format the cache.
But that's OK, glad you got something working.
