This app is simple but useful for people that heavily use full screen apps (games/browsers/ect). It gives a nice little notification that shows the text message/email you just received, allowing you to decide if it's worth quitting your app to reply to it (see picture), even if you're in another app! You can turn the notifications on and off via the main screen. The best part of it is you can play and the notification will not interfere with your touch on the game. It might also have the simplest options menu.
FEATURE LIST:
Now supports K9 Mail (requires K9 Mail for functionality)
Shows the sender (name from contacts list or number if contact doesn't exist)
Shows the contents of the message
Low profile
Doesn't interfere with the touch interface of whatever task you are doing
Easy to turn on or off just by the touch of a checkbox
Lightweight
No more quitting Angry Birds just to see that someone texted you "lol"
Works in portrait and landscape orientations
Permissions explained:
Read SMS: So that it can read the text to show you
Read contacts: so that it can see if anyone in your contacts shares the same number and the text sender
Please report any bugs to me.
P.S. I know this is a VERY simplistic app and may seem pointless. If you feel that way that is fine, however I have had a lot of people that laughed at it originally tell me they can't use any full screen app without and they never turn it off. So I simply ask you give constructive criticism. Thank you!

I was looking for something like this! It alerts to any notification that would be in the pull down bar?
Wanted this since I saw it in honeycomb.

What about an option, like only when in a game. Options like in circle.launcher, pick apps that you want. Just a thought
Doesnt work on Atrix with Handcent as my default messaging app.
Edit: it does however work on Atrix w Handcent, but Handcent not set to default.
Can you make it work with the Handcent option: default messaging app?

This is actually insanely genius. I probably won't ever need to use it because I don't have that many full-screen apps, but the creativity and method of execution is great!

Thanks. It is a newer feature in Handcent that was just added in the new update, my hope was to be able to freeze my stock messaging app and use only HC. I was testing the feature when I came across your thread, thats why I was able to troubleshoot so quick. Right now I have the HC "default app" setting turned off so I can continue using Text Notify!

WidgetLocker is a paid app, this thread is to be used for support. Also feel free to email me.
I'm the developer of WidgetLocker, which is a lockscreen replacement with emphasis on customization. Primarily by allowing you to place standard Android widgets (or shortcuts) on the lockscreen. It allows you to drag-and-drop similar to how the home screen works. It also includes Custom Sliders, which allow you to add extra sliders to the lockscreen for whatever you want. There's built in actions for things like silence/vibrate, brightness, quick camera mode, dialer. But you can also use any shortcut, such as direct dial or any application on your phone.

Yep, WidgetLocker rules, FlyScreen drools. It works really great, and it's fast and always there. No more built-in lock before the lock screen, no more home/back/notification goes past it, etc..
Did a good job on this one, look forward to what's coming.

Im interested in buying this for my Legend to solve a problem.
Basically I love spotify but its main shortcoming is it doesnt have lockscreen controls.
Ive looked all over for some kind of hold down volume +- to change current media track but no joy.
Would it be possible to have some kind of overall media controls to add as a widget? What I mean is if anything is using the media output (could be any program) then skipping forward and back would work on whatever it is thats playing but not in focus.
There must be a way to do this ;(

I assume you are in a country that allows paid apps?
And are running Android 2.1 or 2.2?
If those are both true then what phone are you on? I can't think of any other reason WidgetLocker wouldn't be visible. It does not employe the "copy protection" that sometimes blocks market visibility.
i heard people on the 2.2 roms ... leaked and beta versions sometimes have issues seeing apps in the market

Using ADW here, and the ONLY time I see lag is when ADW has clearly gotten killed for whatever reason. Otherwise it comes up immediately.

I believe this is only when the app has the copy-protection option enabled on the market. I don't have that enabled for WidgetLocker (mainly because I want it visible to people on leaked roms)

iTouch24 and I identified the LauncherPro problem as an animation being run by LauncherPro whenever it is activated (and the animation is still run even if it's suppossed to be disabled. It just runs much faster.). I'm going to talk to Fredrico about seeing if WidgetLocker can bypass this animation and also suggest he add options to disable them in general as not all users want them. Also note that this LauncherPro delay is very minor (the length of a quick animation), not a serious lag issue.

Aha, 'splains that then. I haven't really used LauncherPro since trying ADW
I just found this app today after hearing about it on the last Android Atlas podcast. I love it as is but what I'm truly looking for is a pattern-based lock screen where the pattern points are invisible.
I love being able to customize my lock screen with all of the options that you have included with this app. But nothing would please me more than being able to to away with the slider all together in lieu a pattern lock where the points of contact are not seen.
I would love the added security while maintaining the aesthetics of the unlock screen options that you have included. Perhaps something to consider in any potential updates. Either way your app is quite nice.

ChompSMS is a text message handling app for the Android platform. ChompSMS has got to be one of the best Messaging alternatives offered for Android and maybe even one of the best Applications in the Market. I text a ridiculous amount of times a day and i'm sure i'm not alone there. The only thing is, the native messaging app is pretty bad. After a few hundred texts it starts slowing your phone down and lagging. For someone who text all the time and needs it to be quick and easy as texting should be, the native app falls short. Not alone does performance in the native messaging app fall short but so does many features and customization. With ChompSMS so much more is added in the features and customization area. Anything from being able to Blacklist someone, setting individual ringtones, marking all as read or even having a way better looking UI. Of course the best thing about it is that performance does not get affected no matter how many texts you have. It just works and looks great all around. ChompSMS is an amazing app. The only problem is with the sent notification sound, just can’t hear it most of the times. It seems to work just like the native Android SMS application, and I love the chat style conversation bubbles.
This app functions in ways similar to how the core Android text messaging system works, but offers quite a bit more customization to make it worth using instead. It also offers its own brand of text messaging as well.

Handcent actually allows that, you can choose between Handcent, Handcent Classic, iPhone and Android style chat. The first three are either square or rounded bubbles, and the last one is like the stock messaging app.
Can't remember whether Chomp allows you to set that though.

Correct, in the future i plan to add support for calls specifically(to flash as calls come in), but specific support for other applications will not be pursued as I believe the current system is sufficient.

Wow i have never noticed this, i will have to determine why, even with the WHOLE list in memory it should not be that high, it is possible if you alternate between show system & not that the memory is not being cleared. Ether way i will fix this because that is quite ridiculous lol.

Seriously, it's just plain text.
The few themes for the app out there do little to help, and when I looked at the XML files, I can see why. There's very little room for customization outside of color tweaking, at least from what I could tell from tinkering for a couple of hours. There's no way to add bubbles like there is the the stock SMS app, and all of the SMS text is left aligned, whether it's an incoming or outgoing text.
So what I'm asking is, can a developer make a Google Voice app that improves on the crappy existing interface and adds bubbles, and aligns outgoing texts to the right and incoming texts to the left?
(like so)
I know Google Voice doesn't have any official API, but these guys have been working around that (I'm not really a programmer so I'm not sure if that link is actually relevant )
And if a 3rd party Google Voice client is truly unfeasible, can a developer look into theming the official GV app with bubbles and the text alignment I described? Like I said, I'm not a programmer so my (unsatisfying) efforts may not have scratched the surface of what can actually be done.
tl;dr Google voice sms interface is fugly, plz somebody add bubbles and make it look more like a messaging app

The reason I wasn't content with it is that it seems like there's no way to get the bubbles to fit the text; they always just expand to fill the whole screen from side to side...

I didn't realize that the Google Voice app was different between GB and ICS.
I just started using GV integration today, and it's been mostly good. My only issue is that it doesn't sync directly with google voice, so if I send an sms from my computer, it won't show up on my phone like it does with the GV app.

I had been using GV Integration for a while and had been communicating a lot with the developer. I've found that it's just too buggy/unreliable. It's an amazing idea off to a great start, but needs a lot more work.
Unfortunately, I haven't heard from the developer for weeks now and there hasn't been an update in a while. I'm fearing this may have become abandonware.
I sent an email yesterday
Thats my google voice. Isnt there a png file in the phone with an airplane?

I use Google Voice SMS Integration and it works great with Go SMS Pro. So now I can send and receive text using Go SMS Pro instead of the native google voice app. Thus I have different themes.
Anyone know how to change font colors when theming apks?
Can we flash the file as a zip in recovery to install it (like a new Rom) our do we have to follow the many stepped directions previously linked to??

Also I found this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1002279) which shows a great inverted theme/flash to google voice, any chance you two could work together using his UI and your awesome bubbles??
It would be the best google voice mod ever.
I have always been extremely disappointed with GV.
great app but...
Hey,
I absolutely love the theme in post #3, but I was wondering if the dev of that theme would do me a smallll favor. When it's really sunny and it's hard to see the screen, it's really hard to read incoming texts because the black text and the dark-ish gray bubble really just blend together. The blue bubbles are however very easy to read. Is it possible to possibly make the gray bubbles a lighter shade (ex. the same shade of gray as the call/compose icons in the top right or some shade in between but I assume it's better to use a shade that's already part of the theme), and if not that then it could even work to switch the colors so outgoing messages are in the gray bubbles, and incoming are blue, since it's more important to be able to read the other person's messages as not mine.
Hopefully it's a small task for you, thanks in advance!

Remember sleepyti.me? That nifty website to help you get a good night's sleep? I was disappointed that there was no good app version of it for Android, so I made my own.
"Why a sleep calculator?", you might say, "I am a fully grown adult, I don't need someone to tell me when to sleep!"
The truth is, if you wake up during one of your sleep cycles, you will start the day feeling groggy and tired, that is why you want to wake up in-between sleep cycles, and you will feel energized and refreshed, what a way to kick off your day!
What this app does
Calculates when to wake up and when to sleep to feel great
Calculate when to wake up if you sleep now
Get a list of possible times
Add an alarm by clicking on a time
Option to take into account the time it takes for you to fall asleep
What this app does not
It's not an alarm app by itself, it only adds it to your android alarm app
Cook for you
Do your homework
This app works just like sleepyti.me, but with a few additions here and there to make it easier to use, such as the ability to create an alarm from within the app!
The app tries to have a Holo feel, which makes it fit right with the rest of Android. It also works from Gingerbread and up, I wanted it to look great and ran into a few API restrictions unfortunately.

That is odd. Try toggling the option off and on again, and then restart the app (click multitask button and swipe the app away) or go to app info and restart. I think the configuration settings may have been messed up.
EDIT: on a closer inspection, i found the source of the bug, ill send a fix momentarily to google play

Thanks for the feature suggestion. It is certainly on the list.
Anyone have other feature suggestions? It'll be greatly appreciated.
On another note, anyone wants to do a quick translation of the app to their language?
Thanks
