Hello Everyone,
I have i896 captivate. I am currently on serendipity 7 and like it. However, I need to go back to stock rogers rom, which I did. The problem is, while booting up the phone, the order of screen animations is:
a. galaxy gt i9000
b. i896
c. rogers.
The phone boots and works fine.
Is there a way to remove the gt i9000 screen. Any advice is most welcome.
Thanks
You would need to reflash the stock rogers bootloaders. Unless you're planning on returning it for warranty repairs or something, I would recommend against it and just live with the i9000 screen.
As a matter of fact, I was planning to return it for repairs. I do have the i896 stock rogers rom, where can i find the bootloader files and how do i flash it. Thanks for the prompt response.
No idea where you'd get the stock i896 bootloaders.. sorry dude :/
I'd imagine they'd come packaged with a leaked stock i896 rom (maybe samfirmware.com?). If you find one that has the bootloaders (you can find them by extracting the rom packages and looking for sbl.bin and boot.bin), make sure you have BOTH sbl.bin and boot.bin, otherwise you'll hard-brick your phone. To flash the bootloaders, just flash the entire leaked rom with odin as usual.
No luck there. Maybe I'll live with this screen and get an upgrade in 2 months. Thanks a lot for your response

i think this is what youre looking for. i suggest 1click odin back to att stock first like the guy states then flash the rogers files
Fantastic, works like a charm. Thanks a lot.

Dear Friends,
I happened to have a perfectly working rooted SGS running JPK on Froyo until a while ago. When I tried installing fonts with typefresh. This is where everything went haywire. The phone now doesn't want to boot. It says SGS I9000 and vibrates there 4 times and repeats the vibrating cycle. I want the phone to be working again else my mother will murder me. I tried going to the recovery mode and tried to do a factory restore but that didn't help. Tried to reflash the custom ROM I downloaded from this site (can't find that link) using ODIN but it doesn't work either. While reflashing I did not check the repartition tab. What are the possible solutions here?? KIES doesn't detect phone in download mode. Is there any link from where I can download the factory shipped froyo rom and try reflashing the same via ODIN.
Guys please help it has now turned into a Black Screen Of Death. Though I can still go back to Download mode....please help guys this is getting from bad to worse....
Update: The phone now only goes to download mode...
BUMP! Please guys a few hours before mom comes home from work...
Try flashing a 2.1 firmware with Odin.
Google samfirmware.
Sent from my GT-I5700 using XDA App
You could also try flashing
Froyo that does not brick
and then flash to JI6
EDIT:
Do you have the drivers set up for your device?
Also, What device are you using? The SGS line has many phones. My advice above was dependent on it being a Vibrant
Yes I do have the drivers for my device. I'll be trying 2.1 in a while. What are the chances of Samsung giving me a replacement for the device??
I live in India. We don't get the Vibrant here. It's just plain old Samsung Galaxy S GTi9000

If you can reach download mode, find you favorite firmware in one of the guides on XDA, and using Odin flash it.
If you know what firmware you were on, you can also just reflash the PDA file of that firmware. The PDA file is Packages inside the rar file you download from samfirmware.com
Best thing is to find a guide, and follow it.
I'd JPK before things went haywire. I'm wondering what's the difference between JPK and JPM. Which one should I go for??
I'm planning to flash to JM8 then doing either JPK/JPM. Is this fine?? Or should I directly flash with JPK/M and forget about JM8? Which one is better K or M? Anything else I need to be aware of before I take the plunge??

Hey pal.
It really doesn't matter which firmware you flash. Over the time, I realized that what works for one does not necessarily work for the other. It really is a very subjective thing.
Between JPK and JPM, the later (JPM) is the latest release. If froyo excites you, go for either JPM or even JP6 (JP6 being a day newer than JPM and recommended i suppose). If eclair suits your use, I would suggest JM9

It really is not difficult flashing firmwares on the i9000. Just follow the instructions from the thread to the dot and you are all set to go. In the same breath, I would also go as far to suggest that you stay away from custom ROM's till you get familiar with the process of flashing ROM's and troubleshooting (in case anything goes wrong). Stick to the stock ROM's and you should be good to begin with.
Do update on your progress.
Cheers.....
Fixed it. Flashed JPK everything working now! Thanks for all the tips and inputs!
I recently used ODIN to flash my T-mo Vibrant back to stock and then upgrade to Froyo. I was unimpressed by Froyo and wanted to flash a custom rom so I rooted and tried to flash a custom rom and it wouldn't work. I then used Odin to try to flash back to stock....got my vibrant stuck on the phone -triangle- computer dl screen after multiple tries it still wouldn't flash in an act of frustration I dl'd another ODIN and one clicked flashed my Vibrant I then find out that this particular ODIN was made to flash a stock captivate rom so now my Vibrant boots to the at&t world phone screen and loops. I tried button combos to get to dl mode and haven't succeeded.....HELP PLEASE! -also will the dl mode usb jig help in this case?-
I'm not familiar what ODIN is but have you posted or tried looking for your answer under the Samsung Vibrant specific forums?

I have the same problem too!
Not sure what to tell you if you cant back into the bootloader...that's kind of an iffy problem...I'd try looking for some info on anyone else who's run into the problem. ODIN's a great tool, but destroying your bootloader can be quite an issue.......
Does anyone have a stock nandroid or stock unrooted ROM backup of Cincinnati bells Nexus S? 2.3.4 i think it is.
I am having to return it to cincy bell for another and i would like to return it to its original state before i do.
I found one on ROM manager but it is a TMobile stock rom...my bootloader now says "carrier-tmb"
any help would be appreciated!
i have cincinnatibell and i tried loading a custom rom the fone failed to root correctly and bricked, i couldnt find any instructions so i was a smart ass and used odin to load the nexus s 4g os. it was the sprint one so it had 2.3.5 sweet! but i didnt have service. so i had to search everywhere for a different stock rom. i found one and it loaded everything worked! use odin v 1.81, find ghr78 stock rom on google. extract and hopefully you have the boot loader, csc, and pda file like i did.
if you still need it i have the CarrierUpdate file that came with the phone if you want the file i can email it to you. all you do is install it like any other rom! ha...
i have the samsung infuse 4g and my friend unlocked it for me and the calling and textin are fine but i cannot use anything data.
the imei is like a buck of diamonds and squares and symbols.
please help its my only fone and have no money for a new/used one.
ty in advance if anymore info needed just say so.
What android os are you running? I believe you are in Jellybean 4.1.2, but correct me if im wrong.
You will need to reflash a jb rom; cm10 usually works for recovering your imei.
Search around and you should find instructions for what you need to do.
my phone is on the factory froyo ucke3 but its unlocked.
so if i follow your directions it will be ok?
If you are on froyo then flash a froyo back to stock pack with odin or heimdall. Or update to GB. It's up to you.
Hello,
Totally new to this Forum, and to the idea of rooting/unlocking phones at home. Hopefully someone can help or provide guidance. I'm sorry, I'm sure this answer comes up somewhere on here, but I have not searched.
Here is my predicament.
I got a new phone, and was going to try to root/unlock my old phone (Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant i9000M) for my GF's daughter.
So...I downloaded Odin 1.3 and ran the instructions as I found them on another site. They supplied the link to a *.tar file that would root the phone. After I ran that, the phone would power on...but not pass the Splash screen. When it boots the i9000M turns to i9000 and the lights on the front of the phone flash..and it stays on that screen.
I downloaded a different version of Odin (1.85), a new tar (CF-Root-XX_XEU_JPY-v1.3-BusyBox-1.17.1) and pit (s1_odin_20100512) files. I've run all of those...and now the phone will not power at all. If I run into Download mode...it works.
Thoughts?
Is this phone able to be saved...or should I just take it with me to hockey tonight and practice shooting with it.
I got it all to work...after much reading and searching, I found the original Stock ROMS to bring me back to factory, then properly flashed and unlocked, got the SIM to work and even figured out how to set up the APN for internet access via the phone service....initially I only had it working on wifi.
A new question. Is an unlocked i900M (Bell) the same as any other i9000? I want to upgrade her past Froyo 2.2, because her app/game selection is rather limited. Everything I am finding references i9000...and doesn't say with it is a Gingerbread upgrade for a stock phone, or unlocked phone.
I apologize if these are noob questions, but I've never done this before.
Any help.guidance would be appreciated.
Matt
