LG star is the tmo exchange for g2x - T-Mobile LG G2x

Just got off the phone with T-Mobile reps and they are exchanging my phone for the LG star which they say is the g2x upgrade! they supposedly fixed the random reboots, loaded new software and fixed the overheat issues as well as screen bleeding.I will be receiving the new phone on Wednesday so ill keep my fingers crossed that the issues are actually fixed and that it has the gingerbread update already on it!

The Star is just the codename for the O2x/G2x. You may be onto something, but I wouldn't count on it.

Star = Optimus 2X = G2X
Edit: dammit gubidi beat me to it

How exactly is that the "upgrade" that phone was in testing before the G2x and is basically the same phone with a few cosmetic differences.
Leave it to T-Mobile to convince us that they are doing us a favor here!

LG star is the g2x

Yea I get that ..but the Rep said they started reshipping them and were no longer being sold as g2x now I don't entirely know if the Rep knew what they were talking about but I just figured I would let you in on what I was told...and if it happens to be true then awesome if not then I'm in no worse position then I already was having a g2x with many issues

They told me LG Star and when I told them it was a G2X they said "Oh yes, that right".
I just called again as my 3rd warranty had screen bleed issues and they sent me to loyalty. The loyalty person said that I could get a Galaxy S 4G which is an "really amazing phone" free of charge as an exchange.......
I explained I wanted a Sensation if anything (equal specs) and she stated "we don't normally do this, but you can pay the difference of the Galaxy S 4G and the Sensation which is $50. I asked to talk with a manager and they were all tied up for 20 minutes so they have to call me back. I am gonna threaten to write corporate till I get a sensation free of charge. Any tips for when they call me back?

How long are your wait times when calling customer care? I'm averaging 45-60 minutes. I just got someone and my phone reset after a 50 minute wait. You think they would call me back. But nope.

Verizon Thunderbolt Returns.

So I finally had the power button sink down inside of my Thunderbolt, this is the second time it's happened in less then 20 days. Once again I sent HTC an email regarding the issue (as I did last time) but this time I recieved no help. So I called Verizon and spoke to a nice lady named Christine, who once I explained everything to her how the issue was known etc etc...
Verizon now has a reference number thats already ready in front of the reps thats strictly for this issue. I will recieve my "new phone" on Tuesday. Just wanted to post this so others who are having this isuue and even if you are out of your 14 days, even though you still have a 1 year manf. warranty, due to the high amounts of this issue, Verizon is not questioning this matter and will gladly set you up with a return.
Good luck guys!

Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App
If it's sitting lower than your volume button on the side of the phone, it's sunken in.
Mine is sunken in, but it doesn't bother me.. Doesn't effect the function at all and my case covers the button so it feels the same.
Well I'll be at verizon tomorrow

Yea I have noticed this as well. At first I was taking them seriously. Now its just too obvious.
The reference number for the insurance they have and its not "given out" to customers, it's used to easily process the claim and not ask 100 questions to you. Also make sure they don't "deactivate" your 4G Sim which they did mine, had to return to a Verizon store today to get another one. It has to have an active line, which this is what I was told. Either way I'm still expecting a new phone tomorrow, hopefully won't have this issues anymore.
And yes please make sure you un-root.
Cheers.

Verizon Doesnt Check For Root When Getting A Replacement Device

For all those who worry about a bricked device with rooting, fear no more.......
http://www.droid-life.com/2011/06/16/verizon-begins-charging-full-price
I received this link from my buddy who works internally for Verizon this morning, after i asked him about this two weeks ago as some rumors were floating around saying VZW would charge you full price if you rooted and needed a replacement
This is in no way a guaranty that you will not be charged, any time you root your device you void your warranty blah blah blah

VZW may not check, but HTC probably will. HTC may be "root friendly" but they don't want bad press about their products, either. If HTC finds evidence of root, there is nothing to stop them from reporting that to VZW, who will likely charge you full retail price for the reburbished phone they sent you as a replacement.

Doesn't matter, cause the refurb centers can't charge you as well as there is no path for them to turn around and tell VZW that a device was rooted, once the receiving warehouse verifies the meid and the 3 physical checks its sent off to the refurb center to be taken apart, I worked for Big red for 6 years, once it leaves the receiving warehouse it's gone, so even if they (refurb center) did it wouldnt matter

It still amazes me that people think businesses won't protect themselves from scammers. They may not make it a priority to catch every single one, but spot checks will happen. It would be a really horrible business practice to allow everyone to scam you out of your own product.
Link all the articles you want, but when they show their numbers for Quarter/Year, they'll take note on how much money was lost to "defective" merchandise. If that number is abnormally high...your ass will be grass when they start investigating the new returns.

1.4 million customers and of that 260,000 thunderbolts.....of that 25,000 to 50,000 rooted, and that's a liberal number it's probably less, I'm no math major but I doubt there will be any major impact on "defective" merch and Verizon has an internal sop with equipment and issues, if the "defective" device replacements hits a certain %, the device moves to "end of life" and they stop carrying it, it's that simple, they're not going to investigate anything

They are just cleaning up their stock of old phones before the new ones come out. Online sold out first, now they are clearing out the stores.
There would have been an official announcement if they were discontinued AND they wouldn't keep selling them. If they were discontinued the would cease ALL sales and return them all to LG. Plus they would have to exchange those who purchased the G2x with another phone.
Not if they had already purchased a large batch from lg. They likely decided that the phone wasn't worth the trouble with the sensation out. So just sell off what they had left.

T-Mobile & LG Doesn't Care About Your Issues

http://www.tmonews.com/2011/07/t-mobile-no-longer-issuing-warranty-replacements-for-the-g2x/
I've owned every device T-Mobile has to offer and for such a powerhouse not to have any backing was a deal breaker for me. I went back to the Nexus S and now I have the Sensation. I'm staying with HTC until the new Nexus launches.
How do you guys feel about LG & T-Mobile now after petitioning and emailing them? They are basically not looking to improve the device. The G2x may be a epic fail. I enjoyed it while I had it but it clearly lacks support.
I havent seen any issues on my Sensations behalf. I think that unless you have tested it or owned one you can't go by hear say. The issues people addressed as far as the G2x only some have experienced but those who have them might want to make the jump while the G2x still holds some value.

Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA Premium App
Oh but listen to what your saying. You have exchanged the G2X 5 times and you still have the same issues? That means it is not going to magically get fixed by doing even more exchanges. The reason they stopped doing exchanges is because they know the phone has problems on ALL the phones and until it gets updated it wont do any good to swap it out for another. Makes sense to me. I understand switching it for a sensation if you cant handle the issues but I completely understand why tmobile is doing this. Makes sense to me. Personally I chose this phone because I knew it would be supported by cyannogen and im pretty happy I went that route rather than the sensation because who knows how long it will take to get updates for that. I have absolutely no issues except a little screen bleed. Obviously the nexus phones are going to get support first and then followed by any phone supported by CM. This phone is already leaps and bounds better than the sensation when you consider the custom rom community.
HOWEVER... I will say that t-mobile AND LG need to speak up and let us know what is going on. Admitting they have issues is ok as long as they are working to fix it but leaving us in the dark is kinda crappy.
Frankly this is still an unconfirmed newsletter. Hopefully well see something about this soon
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
Leaving anyone in the dark is not cool. Announce something. Email Twitter fb whatever. Of course the g2x is ahead in Roms the Sensation isn't even a month old. It took 2 months to get a rom for it and it was great. When the Sensation gets s off it will be a monster more than what it is now. I liked the g2x don't get me wrong but somethings I couldn't ignore and for someone who pays full price for phones I don't think it was worth my money. The Sensation feels more of a solid device
And also people have reported that some exchanges for a device have solved most of their issues. Some just chose to deal with it.

I was under the impression the the update would contain more than just GB. It has been rumored to contain better drivers and other fixes as well. Hopefully we will know before September.
You people need to understand something: this phone does NOT need a gB update nor did tmo ever say that this mysterious update was going to be gb. What we are waiting for is a FIRMWARE update from LG, distributed through tmo. This what the Rep who told me they were pulling the g2x, ( which they temp. did a few weeks later) said. He told me the firmware update would be first, then if all goes well they MAYBE will release gb for us. Yeah could be BS, but he's been right so far.

He told me the firmware update would be first, then if all goes well they MAYBE will release gb for us. Yeah could be BS, but he's been right so far.

Actually t-mobile and LG both promised updates to Gingerbread claiming it would be right after initial release. T-mobile claimed before summer. LG boasted how they decided to leave it stock android in specifically so they would be able to quickly update the device right after release. Its not been quite a while and I am pretty sure they should have had at least something by now.
Man this whole thing with LG/ tmo giving us totally different versions/BS promises with every Rep is just BS. I hate to say it but IMO the only thing that's gonna make these corporate douchbags give us the truth is through a class action lawsuit. This is just so uncooked of them to play this game. I personally hope my Guy is right ... first firmware update, then gb, or maybe released together in a single update....I'm dreaming I know :/

yea man i myself have a great working g2x i love this phone , **** i bet a bunch of other people with this phone are fine. imagine how many other peeps that arent to tech savvy and dont really know to look for the screen bleed or whatever the case may be....we just know what to look for and what we want at xda
My phone is pretty awesome I got lucky no issues other than a few reboots over the months, no screen bleed. BUT STILL ...lol... what about the peeps with issues? IMO it's bs and constitutes deceptive buisness practices

Big ol' doughnut haha I would love to see the LG Rep that goes through these haha when they realize they will never have any repeat business hahaha start selling stocks now!!! hahaha
Pin it to Win it.
Eh.. I gave them a 6. Software and Support are horrible, but I felt the hardware is among the best. And combined with xda/rootzwiki, it's pretty nice. Plus, unlocked bootloader is nice (is this manufacturer or carrier?).
Zero seems a little unreasonable. I mean, it's your opinion so have at it, but if a company received a zero from me, the product would be beyond fixing and in the trash can.
I gave a 3. Without good software from the manufacturer, then you cannot fully utilize the hardware.

Good find! I gave them a peace of my mind...No support at all. That's not how you do business LG! If we didn't have talented and devoted developers this phone would've been a paper weight after the gingerbread "update" LG deployed.
Thanks to all developers!
0. On another note the nitro looks cool

Submitted my answers. How likely do you think someone who put 0 down will actually win a phone?
If I get the new Nitro HD then I am selling and using that money to get the best Samsung available

Agreed with the text box. They get enough hate on facebook.

I really look at LG as a hardware provider. I don't think anybody is happy on stock. After all the flashing and tweaking. (No drugs) I'm really happy. LG should just sell devices with root permissions, cwm, give credit due to devs who made this stuff possible (aka $) and keep them under warranty. Dunno how legal that would be but it would change everything.

Gave them a solid 3... agreed with you guys that said the hardware was great but software support severely lacking.
I'm still on the fence about trying the G4X when it comes out, but as mentioned we have such great dev support here on XDA and from Cyanogenmod that even though out of the box I'm sure the G4X will have awful software just as the G2X did, it will be only a matter of time for the guys here to build some properly-working and amazing ROMS for it as well.
LG really ought to be ashamed of releasing such great hardware with such terrible software preinstalled.
Nice find!!, hopefully we get a good amount of people that will fill this out
