Samsung Flimsy Battery Cover - Samsung Infuse 4G

This is about the Samsung Galaxy S II Battery Cover, but i'm gonna say it goes for the InFuSe as well, the shells of each device are almost identical.
Worried About the Flimsy Plastic Samsung Galaxy S II Battery Cover? Watch this Video.
http://youtu.be/ErXqnQKs-tA
We still have no official word on when the Samsung Galaxy S II will land stateside or on Verizon, but until then, the video above should ease any concerns over the fragility of its plastic battery cover. Since the phone debuted earlier this year, one of the biggest knocks against the device (any Samsung device for that matter) was the fact that the back plate felt (or at least looked) like it might break every time it needed to be pulled off. The video that our buddies over at Phandroid have uncovered clearly shuts down that notion.
All I can say, is please be 4G whenever you do arrive.
LINK: Courtesy of Droid-Life.com

maybe its not made out of cheap materials as i once though. not that i really cared as its to make the phones as thin as possible, which it does. and with the very nice texture on the back and no hollowness between it and the battery and components, it feels really nice anyways.

actually. that seems pretty legit. seeing how he bent it, seems like you cant break it. which is kind of neat.

[REVIEW] Naztech Extended Battery (2400mAh)

So I was told to make a review when I got this, cause people want reviews to see stuff and that ****. Now, onto the review.
Experience:
Arriving home one fateful afternoon, I noticed I had a package from Amazon. I opened up the box like a little fat kid in a candy store, and to my surprise, I didn't get half the item. Sent it back, got another one, all that fancy ****, and I opened it up. As initial impressions goes,
Smelt funny.
The back door is the same "rubber" material as on some of the Logitech mice, and the CR-48.
Battery had some weight to it.
The door cover is MUCH more ridgid than the stock one.
So I put it in and all that fun stuff, tried it out, and yeah. I ran the screen on for about 5 hours, from a 100% charged battery, and I dropped down to 75% in the end. I guess this is somewhat expected, considering the capacity of this battery is almost 2x the stock. Running superclean, standard kernel, the jist.
tl;dr
Pros:
Makes the phone feel more ridgid, stable, sturdy.
LONG battery life, as expected.
Nice grip to the phone.
Generally feels nice on the fingers; i.e they don't stick.
Raises the phone up a bit so the camera lense doesn't get scratched.
Cons:
Smells funky; probably the packaging.
Took me about 15 minutes to get it off. Snaps on so tight that it doesn't come back off easily.
My CR-48 material covering comes off easy, and this is the same material, so I'm worried its going to happen here as well.
This thing costs $24 as of now; if you have the money to spend I see no reason why not to get this, unless you have a limited supply of pocket space; then you're screwed.
Ask me in the channel for pictures, XDA won't let me throw em here.
I just took your advice. I hold you personally responsible if I don't like it. =P
Better battery + a less plastic-ey feel? I'm in.
is naztech a good brand? does the advertised mah match up to the actual?
thanks,

Basing my information on my time with the battery, I'd say its a good brand. They sell other things too, got a website; they mostly do apparel for electronics. Also, yes, the advertised product is exactly as it is.
thx for responding, I think ill buy it tonight.
I should have the battery in today. I'll post up some impressions when I do get it.

Okay. So I have the casing and battery and have had it on for about the last last 24 hours so I will share what I think so far.
Casing: I am thoroughly impressed with the quality of the casing. Honestly, it feels quite similar to the "soft touch" casing that, is found on HTC phones. This is a major plus for me as I hated how plastic-ey the stock casing felt.
The casing is a bit thick though. Id say it close to doubles the thickness of the phone. This isn't as bad as it sounds though as the fascinate us a thin phone to begin with. Personally I don't mind the added thickness and it might even sit a bit better in my hand. My girlfriend however has small hands and dislikes the phone being bigger.
The short version: case feels great. The thickness may or may not bother you.
As for the battery, the life seems good but I'm going to give it a few days to calibrate before I give a final impression.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA Premium App
I went through my first day with this battery and I have the exact same impressions as below. The added thickness bothered me at first but I think I'm already starting to get used to it after only one day of use.
I unplugged my phone at 830 this morning and it's now just past 1030 for an uptime of over 14 hours and I have 51% left. This is just amazing considering my phone usually dies after 6-8 hours of use.
Final impressions: the best $24 I ever spent on any phone accessory I ever purchased!

Just use it normally, condition it, etc.
I am going to look into getting a sweet battery, but not real familiar with them, what brands make batteries for these phones?
So this one can be charged using the phone? Or do you have to use an external charger?

[Q] Can we get a new battery door?

All of these cases you see on Amazon and Verizon and nobody has considered machining a new battery door out of aluminum or something? The cheap plastic has gotta be the #1 thing a lot of people hate about this phone, and I would definitely be willing to pay $15-20 for a nice metal back.
Does Samsung have some kind of patent that prevents this?

I suspect a metal door would interfere with the antennas, wouldn't it?
On the Nexus S, some guy had the same complaint about the plastic feeling cheap, he came up with a mod that involves spraying some rubber coating on it. Seems popular, cheap, easy, and reversible.

most other oem's use metal doors...samsung seems to be the only fan of plastic. there might be something you have to do to prevent interference but it has to be possible.

It would be nice if we could get something like a soft-touch black plastic battery door for better grip/nicer feel/less fingerprints. Also might be more functional than a metal door on our Charges. The antennas are on the bottom-back of the phone for some reason.
Samsung doors
I called Samsung today and they have two different doors you can buy I believe still plastic but have a nicer look and one somehow charges or keeps the battery charged longer (nvm it is only a inductive bacK). What I get for believing them lol, but anyways just thought I would share what I found.

feel like the HTC thunderbolt's, with a nice machined brush finish

The funny part is the shape and cutouts of the pictured cover match the Charge.
Would really love to see a more grippy battery door with kickstand for this phone. I'm looking to replace my Thunderbolt with a Charge and I know I'm going to really miss the kickstand.
The Samsung holster/case combo looks nice, but it's going to add unwanted bulk and I'm pretty sure it won't fit in the car and desk docks with the case on.
Samesung's Website
That pic I posted is directly from Sammy's website so don't know why you feel it isn't legit. Unless Samsung is teasing us or posting a false picture lol...Anyways here is the link...http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/EBC-994WBEBSTD?
I tried Phantom skinz carbon fiber wrap to add some texture for better grip on this phone but ended up not liking it and peeled it off.
Recently went with the plastidip spray on stuff and it works much better. 2 coats of it are working great adding a good grippy feel to the back battery cover. Hope that helps.

Any chance of pictures of your finished product? Did you spray both the inside and outside of the battery door?
Only did the outside of the cover, no point in doing the inside as well.

Seemed like people were doing the inside as well to make it harder to peel off, but I don't know if it'd make a difference.
Does the phone still fit in the Car and Home dock with the back sprayed?
I don't have any official docks so I can't guarantee, but it adds very little thickness... unless the phone is already snug in the dock it will be fine.

FLYGRIP (stop dropping your phone!!)

So as we all know, the nexus 4 is really fragile. 1 small drop cracks the front and back glass in many cases. The FlyGrip acts like a "handle" for your phone, and it functions as a kickstand.

We shouldn't have to 'stick' anything on the back of any product to get the full use out of it. Bumpers are removable w/o leaving any trace, decent screen protectors are removable and leave no trace, car parts are removable and leave no trace, etc.
Garbage product idea.
There's so many jobless product designers w/ great ideas for products and these clowns hired some idiots to make such a useless product/concept come to fruition.

As a standalone, it is a little lame, but integrated into a case, where the clip would fold in flat, then it's not a bad idea. Much better than regular kickstands. They should sell the patent to a case manufacturer.

HIDEOUS!! I wouldnt attach this to my red painted backup phone for free.

If this were a $7 item I would probably get it.
ive seen cases with kickstands that are more bulky and ugly while being less useful. it comes with a case so i think it's for putting on the back of a case. i wouldnt get one for the nexus 4 but it might not be a bad product for larger phones like the note or some 6" phones that we will see soon.
Whats with all the hate...if you dont like it dont buy it. There's no need to get upset.
it's actually a very good product. If any of you follow qbking77 on youtube he uses them quite often. It's not really meant to prevent you from dropping your phone like the OP is suggesting. The purpose of the flygrip is to allow you to use the phone one handed with much more ease especially larger devices and you can also keep a hold of it easier when you're laying in bed without dropping your phone on your face. For that purpose it actually works quite well I just wouldn't attach it directly to the device itself.

Why so much buzz on plastic body for s4

Well i have been reading around the comments of the people about , how silly samsung is for making s4 all plastic when there are other phones with a good overall build quality.
Well i wont compare it with the sales of samsung but i think they have other reasons. Well i agree that metal always looks and feel great. But dont u think that plastic body is much durable. Well i have never seen any phone breaking in 2 years. People with s2 s3 notes are allbhappy with their phones. Just some scratch issues. So its bearable.

definitely a big plus for samsung here is that if you do damage your case, you can just buy a new one.
if i had a GS4 i definitely wouldn't be using a 3rd party case for that reason.
my problem is that the plastic used by samsung in the gs3 and probably the gs4 is that while it may be durable - im sure it is - it just looks cheap, and that matters to me
my HTC incredible s is plastic, but its like rubberised plastic, and i think its great - it feels nice and durable, non-slippy and i think it feels like a good quality material - maybe thats just me
Actually samsung is so successful with ita galaxy line. That they are so scared of trying even a little change to it. Just like apple was scared to change ios. So they will make money from this same strategy, same looks and builds until sales drop. Till then we all have to agree with their plan.

Mostly anal OCD types who really should not care because people who are THAT concerned about "wearing" these devices probably spend a lot more on Otter Boxes and "screen protectors" and never see the case or use the smooth glass. All the moaning about metal vs plastic is fun to read though.
Those of us who USE the phones without cases and "protectors" could not care less about metal or plastic and may even prefer the lighter plastic. We care about what is INSIDE...not outside. These are not "fashion statements"

Most peoples argument is, it's a flagship device and every part of it should feel 'premium' and plastic just doesn't...
The S4 body is polycarbonate (no different than devices like the Lumia 920 or the One X, except for the finish). The front of the device is Gorilla Glass 3 and the inside of the device is a magnesium frame like their previous devices (lighter and more durable than aluminum).

. "Flagship" is a matter of ones own definition Flagship to me is still the Note 2 . I don;t see anything in the S4 that trumps my Note 2. In this case the note 2 is the flagship device still. There are no rules for "flagship" devices. They are only flagship because they are the latest not the prettiest. Plastic for a device one may keep a whole year is a good business decision. Samsung will sell millions of them as usual. More than "flashy metal" Sonys and HTCs.

Metal may be stronger, however is does a piss poor job of absorbing impact and doesn't sprint back to it's original state. I would rather have the plastic absorb the impact than the circuits in the phone taking a beating. I skin all my stuff anyone so I am not worried about scratches.
so what about the sides where S4 has metal? Will that not pick up scratches/nicks or not bend when it will fall?
Or is that it is ok where Samsung deems it ok and not where it doesnt.
In any case, I've seen many drop tests on youtube and S3 seems to do far worse than iphone5. shame on Samsung

I might be wrong but from what I have read that is not metal around the sides it is also plastic coated to look like metal just like the GS3.
I'm the type that puts the invisibleshield on
the screen and the phone in an Otterbox Defender case. Mostly because I like the heavy durable feel. But also because I like to keep the phone in near mint condition. Then when the case cracks or looks crappy I rock the phone naked. Right now my Samsung Captivate is naked and in awesome condition for being so old. I like having a scratch free phone after several years of use. To me it's like insurance, figure if I'm going to keep it a few years, which I do for ipods and phones, I may as well protect the investment.
I could go either way with plastic or aluminum. Both have their ups and downs, so I don't gripe about either. Plastic doesn't dent like aluminum, but aluminum helps dissipate heat better.
I also hate the feel of my wedding ring against a steel phone when fishing it out of my pocket. Small, but to me it makes me cringe. Like nails on a chalk board.

Can we really say that metal is better that plastic? If it was true, why did they invented it?
Here’s a little story.
Two men are on a battlefield, first man’s name is Harold Thomas Campbell (Lets call him H.T.C. for short) and the second man is called Samuel Forsyth (Let’s call him S4 for short). The two men are given the choice of two high tech armors. One is metal armor, the other is polycarbonate (light weight bulletproof) armor. H.T.C. takes the metal one and S.4. takes the polycarbonate. H.T.C. starts laughing at S.4. and said, "Your armor doesn't look premium". S4 reply “let’s see on the battlefield”. It’s the final battle against their sworn enemy, the terrible Icarus Fontana (let’s just call him ifon for short). The fight begun. Ifon brings his large army of magic metal robots. They have the power to mesmerize inferior minds. HTC and S4 are in smaller number but their android army can adapt to any situation. The battle is long and furious. Ifon is sending his elite guard called, #5. The #5 gives a quick scare but the android army counter all #5 efforts. During the battle the high tech armors starts to lose power, so S4 quickly removes his back panel and changes his power source. H.T.C.’s power is getting dangerously low but his heavy metal armor doesn’t allow him to replace the power source. He needs to find an electrical outlet nearby. H.T.C. and S4 receive many hits. HTC’s armor is all dented and scratched but still resist. S4’s armor looks untouched. The battle is raging on and S.4. is killing enemies at an incredible pace. S4 is trying to help HTC but the armor is just too low on power and too heavy to carry. HTC dies on the battlefield. Ifon’s army is retreating. S4 won this fight but the battle is not over.

Can we really say that metal is better that plastic? If it was true, why did they invented it?
Here’s a little story.

Haha thanks man! A gorgeous story to tell our grandchildren when we are grandparents!
Yes about the feel metal feels premium, but if we talk in terms of quality and durability, i would definitely say that plastic is nore durable. Plus who uses his phone for more than 2 years.

Actually samsung is so successful with ita galaxy line. That they are so scared of trying even a little change to it. Just like apple was scared to change ios. So they will make money from this same strategy, same looks and builds until sales drop. Till then we all have to agree with their plan.

This is the thing dude. When you are already having dream success and that too in a hell of a competitive environment, you don't really need to change things all over. Just imagine apple today decides to bring major open source changes in ios like android or major changes in design, more than half of the customers will dislike it. It's because they are used to this closed environment. Hence making major changes with just 1 phone is not that easy.
Samsung has already replied to this criticism. Plastic is easy to make in mass production and its durable. Like it or not but it will be like this. To shut the mouth, Samsung is giving hell of other things in both software and hardware department. This should be enough to please us.

S4 Build Quality : Plastic > Aluminum

I've had all sorts of Android phones. I loved all the metal ones (Moto and HTC) and stuck with the Galaxy for the developer community, camera, and not getting rid of SD cards and removable batteries. Although my next upgrade batteries and internal memory should be good enough to let that go. I loved the One but 4 MP is 4 MP when your not indoors at night.
I won't let any comments on build quality bother me again. Forget shattering in my pocket, I have dropped my GS4 numerous times with zero effect. I use a $10 case. And now, I ran it over with my car. On concrete. The kind with tar and rocks all in it. Diagonally, straight over the entire phone with tire tracks on it.
Zero damage to screen, all sensors work normally, not even a scratch on the case or screen or edges. And it even popped out of the case while being run over. I guess it's true there is a reason they use plastic for heavy duty stuff in commercial tools and equipment, and aluminum is soda can material.
See attached pics.
Ya and function is more important than appearance anyways

Haha I love it. I dropped mine the day after I got it and almost broke down on the floor until I realized that nothing actually happened to it.

Plastic is fine with me, every phone, plastic or metal will break if the screen lands just right. Despite all the claims to the contrary, I find the S4 to be great. The video below should debunk most nay sayers.

I completely agree that plastic > metal for phone cases. A metal case on a phone is a serious MINUS to me.

Wow. I'm even happier now that I chose this over the One.
i kept reading reviews about the s4 about lower end build quality this, plastic lower build quality that, etc. etc.... but have been impressed by how the phone feels. feels solid. i am constantly amazed how that little thin plastic back clicks in so well and feels so solid. main reason i chose the s4 over the htc one is accessible sd card slot and battery. that's it. i'll take this kind of plastic build over unibody metal every time if it means i get to put in myown sd card and be able to switch batteries.
I got the One at launch and just got an S4 a week ago, was trying to decide which to keep... Picked up my One last night after using S4 all week and it suddenly felt heavy and clunky. I'm keeping the S4.
Fan boy thread. You must be out of your mind if you really believe what You wrote in the title. Who would not want an aluminum s4!

I'm in the same boat, been using the One for a month or so and picked up a GS4 during the half off sale. While my decision will come down more to software than hardware (need to find the right ROM for GS4, still working through this Loki stuff >.<), I definitely prefer the in-hand feel of the One. At a mm or so less wide and having a curved back, it just feels like it fits better to me. I have found that the weight is basically a nonissue, though I know some people get really worked up one way or the other.
As for plastic vs. metal, obviously people who say "plastic is flimsy" are way off, as it is very sturdy, but the One definitely looks nicer after a day of use than the GS4--the glossy finish on the GS4 just soaks up fingerprints like there's no tomorrow. I guess most people use cases, but I've always been a naked-in-pocket kind of guy so that's my biggest beef with the GS4's shell. I wish Samsung would just use a nice matte polycarbonate like some of the Lumias or the One X.
Oh well, it's still a fun debate.

I would not. Every metal devices I've owned have at least one scratch. I will not set my metal tablet down on a table because it would scratch. Plastic doesn't scratch or chip.

I'd get a plastic One over a metal S4 lol selling phones its easy to see how much more fragile unibody and metal framed phones are than multi pieced plastic ones. I hope Samsung never moves to unibody or metal
sent from just the tip
how did nobody take the time to ask OP HOW THA HECK DID YOU RUN YOUR S4 WITH YOUR CAR????
To the guy who called this a fanboy post: I've owned every major brand of android phone of all materials and my wife bought an HTC 8x at my suggestion. I clearly stated I got the s4 assuming build quality to be something I had to deal with. I felt the need to post because I ran it over with a 3500 lb car. That's not fanboy. That's credit.
And yeah I ran it over leaving the lake packing my car lol I set it down on the ground and got my kid, dog, and stuff in. Stupid but true. I'm aware I got lucky but I've ruined phones doing far less. Including my aluminum OG Droid. My wife's 8x shattered on the first drop with a polycarb body. My opinion stands, stupidity and all.
