Galaxy S2 2-Point Zoom Feature port - Captivate General

Have we been able to port the GS2's 2point zoom feature on the browser and gallery to our captivates?
This is what I'm talking about
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3J2yRvTcZMY

I don't think it's possible. The Captivate, Vibrant, or the Galaxy S line in general doesn't have a gyro. And the gyro is needed to make that feature work. Which means it will never work with these phones.

Ah le sigh. Your absolutely right, for some reason I just assumed we did have gyroscope without checking on it. Though our accelerometer would definitely be able to do it. Only thing that would be stopping us is that the tilt direction may not be the sensing direction of the accelerometer.
But then I would assume changing that function from the gyroscope to the accelerometer would take a good deal more work.
idk....yall r the experts

Nevermind - just saw the previous post.

[APP] [PORT] Galaxy S camera for nexus?

tried searching but couldn't find anything, any chance this has been done? my dad has the vibrant and the camera app is amazing, puts the N1 to shame. so i was hoping there may be a way to toss it onto my CM6 N1.
figured i'd bump this again and see if maybe i got an answer this time.
That would in-friggin-credible. That camera is awesome. I had a Vibrant, but gave it to my wife because I was foaming at the mouth for a Nexus One.
I'm not sure how camera mods work... can the Nexus camera hardware even function correctly with Galaxy software (or is it firmware)? Even the "tap to focus" on the HTC camera (I'm using it on Enomther's ROM) doesn't really work like that. It seems to just change lighting rather than actually focusing. Actually, have you tried that one? It also does auto focus while recording. It's a nice replacement for the stock Android camera software. It records in 720p too.

[Q] Multitouch Support?

Hello,
I looked up for this question, but I didn't find any answer for this.
Does this phone support Multitouch? Because it's written nowhere, and I think that means it doesn't...
If it does, how many fingers?
Thanks!
I expect it will be basically the same as a Galaxy S so will handle it great
lol, it's a crime for a phone not to support multitouch now.
anyway, full multitouch support, same as the galaxy s phones.

I really hope, if it does, I think I'm gonna consider buying this phone. But since there's no info in none of the technical specs , I'm a bit sceptical...

it has multitouch, it's been seen in the videos they just don't see the need to put it on the specs anymore since it's basically a given.
Also it's confirmed because the new gingerbread keyboard has full multitouch support. would be kinda dumb to include that if the device didn't support multitouch.

Haha yeah you're right, would be very dumb. Well I'm gonna look up for these videos, if you find one, please post in thread !
Thanks for your answer.
I think it supports upto 5 fingers. Might be more...
If it's anything like the Galaxy S, it supports a minium of 5 input points.
Oh that's good.
Do many android apps take advantage of that ? Because when I used an ipad the other day I toyed with a piano app and was like "wow, I can use more than two fingers, that's amazing !" (I come from a N1 on which even 2 fingers multitouch is glitchy ^^).
Even if it's not essential for most apps, I think it can be a neat addition.
Yes, the touchpanel controller in Nexus S can handle up to 5 points of contact.

touchwiz 4.0 for cappy yet?

hey wondering if i missed it and there was a port for the new touchwiz yet. it looks like theres a bunch of rendition for the vibrant and here is a video of it running on the galaxy s1. Also like the LG Optimus 2x launcher if anyone knows where i can download that. thanks.

It's running on the GB roms as far as I know.
How about Motion Zoom?
The best feature of TW4 imho.
Motion Zoom runs off of the accelerometer and the motion sensors, but I think it's way outta the Captivates reach.
the sgs2 seems to have a number of extra position sensors. it might not be possible. well anything is possible but it might not be within the devs can or are willing to do.
The Gr-12 and continuum GB roms have tw4, i didn't really like it.

Thanks, that makes sense. How about the Samsung Infuse coming out next week? Does that one have the sensors to run a fully functional TW4 with motion zoom? Brother might get one.
I really like TW4 except how hard it is to alpha sort the app drawer.

How well do you think the Nexus S will handle ICS?

I'm sure most of you have seen this video,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=DvsXyeY0HVE#!
Of course this is running on the new Prime which has 1GB ram and a Dual Core processor
But, do you think that ICS will be as fast as Gingerbread was on the Nexus One?
I'm not looking for a definite answer, i'd just like to see your thoughts on the matter.
I fully expect it to run just fine.
It will be faster and smoother with hardware acceleration. Like how the stock launcher is on gingerbread is how the phone should be with ICS

It will have the same pathetic ammount of RAM, but HW acceleration should theoreticly make it much faster.
Here's another thing id like to add in. I'm thinking that Google may disable the hardware buttons. I noticed that when the screen is off on my Nexus S, you cant even see the outline of the hardware buttons. So if they turned off the hardware lights. It could look like a smaller version of the Prime
There are way too many ICS-ready smartphones I think to not have an ICS version that uses hardware buttons. ICS will run flawless on the Nexus S, even better if hardware buttons are disbled I'd say.
I say yes..... At least hope so. My question is.... will ICS be hardware accelerated? has this been confirmed?
Yes it has been confirmed.

Then honestly, I don't see a reason for ICS to not be smooth as long as long as it's hardware accelerated. If it can match the smoothness of the iPhone 4 then it would be pure epicness.

I fully expect ICS to boost the value of the Nexus S on the used market. Then we sell it and get the Prime!
This was kinda my master plan when I came from the Captivate. Nexus will always have better value.

There would be benefit to disabling the buttons that are already there. It would just waste screen space, that unlike the Prime, we don't have to spare.
It should be fine since its hardware accelerated!!

if ics has screen buttons to use then to me, there would be no point in theory for the buttons. yea you can keep them and have them running. but i'd much rather have them disabled and have a slicker / nice view of ics running on my phone.
to me its kinda like the same concept of people that use clock widgets when there is the time in the notification panel. disable one, no need for both to be running. ya know
Is hardware acceleration essentially guaranteed to be in ICS?
I thought I read something somewhere that it was possible that some "important" features were going to be pushed back to Jelly Bean. Just hoping hw acceleration isn't one of them if true.

I thought the same thing... I heard that from somewhere too. Is it really that difficult to make Android fully hardware accelerated? I know vanilla android is smooth but not as smooth as IOS.

Well yeah, my assumption is that if the phone has hardware buttons that the software ones will be disabled. The point is that while it's dumb to have both, there's no reason to waste screen space on software buttons when there are perfectly good hardware ones. Thus, if it's a choice between disabling the hardware ones or the software ones, the sensible thing to do is disable the software ones. I would be very surprised if Google engineers it any differently.

Bingo! Exactly what I'm talking about.
The buttons seem like they took up roughly 1/3 inch from the Prime's screen in all the videos I've seen. With a 4.65" screen that's no big deal but with a 4" that's a pretty significant amount of wasted space, especially when there are perfectly functional buttons on the phone.

yea that is true. i didn't really think it all the way through
Hw acceleration is what I want. One thing about android that fails against the iPhone (for general reasons obviously) is the uneven experience across full use of the phone. Like launcher pro is buttery smooth. But scrolling down the menus in voodoo control is choppy and uncomfortable. Hopefully ics will fix this.

Here's a true question... =_= besides the Prime, Which Version Of Nexus S Will Receive the ICS Update First .... <_< ill be super pissed if sprints receives it first

[Q] Step counter

Apologies if I'm in the wrong forum, this is my first post here
I've heard about a hardware sensor in the Nexus 5 onwards which enhances step counting and step detection - has anyone ever heard whether this is likely to be copied by other manufacturers and likely to feature in future iPhones or Galaxies?
It seems to be getting a lot of attention and I wonder why LG's rivals aren't already working on incorporating this sensor into their own phones
thanks for all answers
some fitness or running applications has a step counter that work with accelerometer
you can check for them if your phone didn't have a full pedometer sensor built-in :good:
thanks but I know that phones have accelerometers - I'm trying to find out if more phones are likely to get step counter sensors build in, as the Nexus 5 currently has
