Modding Toshiba Journ.E Touch Multimedia Tablet-PC - General Questions and Answers

Does someone know this tablet? Is it possible to replace its WinCE with Android?

*fg* let me guess... you got the weekly advertisment flyer from Real supermarket?
Nethertheless I've been asking myself the same question - but I couldn't find one hint of successful porting Android to this device (and now my fingers are hurting from google'ing)

Yes, you're right, I got that advertisment and thought about buying it.

Actually, you can run a number of software written for ARM-WinCE on it. For instance, I installed AllReader2, TotalCommander, CorePlayer, The Quest 1.04 for PPC from Redshift.

I dont have a SD card... How can i install software without one ?

I haven't tried disabling the Toshiba UI but I believe it is possible.
Start the MSN messenger and select File>>Open Received Files.
This will open an explorer window just like the normal windows explorer. By pressing the "Up" directory button a few times, you will finaly reach the root directory. There you will see a link for "Control Panel". Open it and select "Remove Programs". In the new window you will see that the only installed program is the Toshiba UI.
I'm guessing that if you remove it, you will be able to boot with Win CE.

I have found an Android Froyo 2.2 ROM and I will try to flash the Journ.e with it. I will let you know if it goes well.

I'm looking for the same thing.
I've tried several solutions (debian, meego, android), but I couldn't find anyone working.
Whatever OS I put on the SD card, the system refuse to boot and keep stuck at the toshiba splash image.
Did anyone find a solution?

Hi,
First off my apologies to resurrect an old thread but I’ve been searching for a while now and have not found an answer, I was wondering if it is possible to get this working on a different OS ? And if so which one? I'd really like to be able to get some sort of flash capability out of it

Installing programmes on WM2005

Upgraded XDA2 running 2003 to an XDA Mini S running 2005. Programmes that I previously had running on 2003 (Amirsys/Elsevier -Pocket Radiologist series). Despite many suggestions and help from Elseviers techies in St Louis they now think it's an incompatibility that cannot be overcome. Has anyone any experience of patches etc or are these programmes now completely useless.
Having said that, I find the functionality of 2005 good with calls made and taken whilst running TomTom 5.21 - which is a vast improvement!
I think the only way is to watch out for a new version which is WM 5 compatible.
But I don't understand how u can make an XDA 2 to an XDA mini s with an rom upgrade? I think u mean something different.
cu
No. I've changed my XDA2 to an XDA Mini S (wizard) which is why I'm now using WM5. Kind of wish I'd stuck with WM3.
Looked in profiles but no option for newer phones

Hello k.griffin (& anyone else who is trying to get the Amirsys soft running under WM5),
I have some "older" programs that won't run on my new Wizard as well (including your example of Amirsys Pocket Radiologist, and, e.g. a PPC dictation program). I think this is an issue for everyone trying to migrate software to WM5 devices, and it is primarily associated with the new flash architecture of WM5.
I posted some questions regarding the Pocket Radiologist software to Elsevier, too. They said a WM5 version is being prepared but nothing has happend for quite a while now.
Interestingly, I have read forum posts that claim that by chance some people had discovered this software (and several other programs that usually can't cope with the WM5 flash architecture) will run after installing the "Arabizer" suite. This is said to be associated with changes in flash memory handling when this peculiar package is installed.
So my question to everyone who is familiar with WM5 and its memory structure: how plausible is that (at the moment I am thinking of ~1% ) ? I am rather unwilling to check it out blindly, because I am not fond of getting into long hours of installing and uninstalling tools for arabic character sets [that I don't need..] in vain..
Can anybody provide some statements on that ?
there is a hack for pocketradiologist so it work with wm5,
let me search it in my harddisk and will post it,but its seem its illegal

I installed Arabizer, but it doesn't makes a difference !
Who has the magical hack or can fix it in the registry ?

AFAIK the file "MSDAERES.DLL" is part of M$ VB runtime for PPC.
I will try to install it on my PDA this afternoon and let you know.
cheers.
I was able to install pocket radiologist without any problem.
First I installed ADOCE.WM5.CAB, then READER APPLICATION.PPC_2577.CAB and CHEST 100.PPC_2577.CAB.
It's quite good except the radiographs are quite small on PDA screen.
What operating system is on your PDA?
cheers.

Hi ttangcho,
thanks for replying. My operating system is WM5. My pda is a qtek 9000 with Spanish Rom. I tried making a soft reset before installing it, and later I tried a hard reset getting the same message in both actions.
I first tried to install ADOCEforMIMSonPDA from WM5 file but i got that message. So couldn´t keep on going.
What would you recomend me?
Thanks in advance buddy

I'm using WM5 WWE and I installed it after hard reset.
Try to install Ms VB Runtime on your device first. This VB runtime includes "MSDAERES.DLL". I hope this work. By the way, I installed it successfully without VB runtime.
cheers,

Good to hear that you were able to install the program. VB runtime is way too big to put in the main memory. If you want to install VB runtime on the RAMdisk or SD card, do the followings.
1. Create "\RAMdisk\Windows" directory
2. Open your reg edit program and add \RAMdisk\Windows\ in the SystemPath
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Loader]
"SystemPath"=\RAMdisk\Windows\ \Windows\..............
(Note. this is Multi_SZ)
or you can cut and paste the following and add to your registry.
----------------------------------------------------
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Loader]
"SystemPath"=hex(7):5c,5c,52,41,4d,64,69,73,6b,5c,5c,57,69,6e,64,6f,77,73,5c,\
5c,00,5c,5c,77,69,6e,64,6f,77,73,5c,5c,6f,65,6d,5c,5c,00,5c,5c,52,65,6c,65,\
61,73,65,5c,5c,00,00,00,00
----------------------------------------------------
3. Soft Reset using SOFTWARE or power off and on couple of times and soft reset using your stylus.
4. Install VB run time on your RAMdisk.
This is how I did in order to install VB Runtime (3MB) and M$ .NET Compact platform 2.0 SP1(2.2MB) on the RAMdisk.
Cheers!

thanks you all buddies, it worked, at the end, but worked!!!
now i can go with all pocket radiologist on my handheld device, it´s really amazing!!!
see ya in another life brother

Does XDAndroid has to be started-up from Windows every time?

Hi all.
I'm using XDAndroid Froyo FRX06 (Latest), on an HTC Touch Pro2(RHOD210).
And I have a couple of questions:
1) Does android has to be started-up manually from Windows? I wish XDAndroid would be the primary OS and start up whenever I start the phone.
2)The end button and the ON/OFF button does the same. I searched but couldn't find how to chane its behaviour in this specifc build.
Thanks In Advance, and please excuse my newbism
I believe that it has to be turned on Manually but there is a software that will give you the option boot into android when you switch on the phone
Could you be more specific please?
Anyone? (sry for the bump)
It's an app called Gen.Y Dualboot. Windows has to start first (before you can open the app) but it's still faster than clicking haret.exe.
Thanks David,
2 questions:
1)Is there a way for the phone to start android exclusivly? I searched around, and found some ROMs that should do it according to some people but couldn't really find one, and I'm not sure they'd be compatiable with me Touch Pro2(RHOD210).
2) Is Gen.Y Dualboot compatiable with Touch Pro2(RHOD210)
Thx in advance.

1) I think not. Not sure exactly because I have Xperia X1 (I think this is only possible for HD2)
2) Yes. As far as I know, it's compatible with every WinMo phone (there are also different resolution versions of the app)

Question about installing Android after installing Windows Phone 7 on HTC HD2

Hello it's been a while that I have installed Windows phone 7 on my HD2.. (the first release from DFT I think)
But, atm I can't use at work to connect to the wifi because my MAC Adress always change...
So I wanted to put back Android but without uninstall anything.
I don't want to loose my data/config/activation from my wp7, I just want to install android in dual boot.
Anyone have successfully installed Android after WP7 but without reinstalling both?
Sorry for my english...
I have post in this thread because isn't only about HD2.
I think that you will find that the vast majority of users in this forum have WP7 handsets and so will not be able to assist you.
Logic dictates that you will have more luck in the HD2/Leo forums as the members there actually own the handset in question.
Kind Regards,
Creamy
yes, thanks for the answer, but I don't want to post twice (maybe an admin will move this?) and it can be for any wp7 device.
If anyone want to install an android system he has to reset their phone, format the partition and then loose all data/installed programs from windows phone...
Isn't specific to HD2, so I hope anyone has got the same problem as I have

Actually, this is a question ONLY for the HD2. Android cannot be installed on a WP7 handset (yet). So you are much better off posting in the HD2 forums.
Yeah, the hd2 is, generally, one of the most beastly phones to ever exist. You can even run older versions of windows, and newer versions of nonmobile Linux distros on it!!

Hope this helps, it did for me, also all the tool links are there too, I have mine running and even have TS3 full version, working on my Android side.
I do have a feeling though, that you will need to reset your win 7 side, as you will need to create and format your sd card for it to work, unless you are able to do this without the phone, then you could create the partition, but then you still need both partitions, as your win phone 7 side, will need storage space.
You will have to follow the guide to the letter, I did mine a few days ago and all is sweet, my android side is different to whats in the guide, but at least it is listed what i am running in my siggy.Best of luck and message if you need help.
More help to you, I hope.

Just a note, I actually cloned my storage on the sd card for the hd2, before I went about reinstalling, I was able to create the sd partitions for wp7 and android, then I copied the windows one back over, that way I saved all my downloaded apps.
If you are not sure about this, then you will have to bite the bullet and just wipe and reinstall, just take a note of things before you do.
You will be able to reactivate the phone by calling microboffs, via chat help, thats what I did, they gave me a key, straight away for free.....
ups didn't know we can't install from another wp device... so if an admin can move the topic...
hm, I'll try promethieus...
I'll try to backup the sd data then we will see... but didn't think it will works

[Q] Cyanogenmod Windows Installer don't work fine

I installed the Cyanogenmod Windows tool under Win7 and Win8.1. Installation will proceed and there comes a message that the program can now be used. But I find nowhere in the system a bit to start it.
In CCleaner, it is listed, also in the Control Panel under Programs and Features. The Start menu is not available and also in the installation directories, I find nothing. I also get no result when searching for 'cm installer'.
I have tried this on two different computers. Once with Win7 b4bit VS, and once Win8.1 64bit VS .. In both cases the same result.
Can anyone help me?
Tanks in advance,

Windows is probably the main/primary OS. If getting Android to boot is somewhat linked to the existence of Windows, then you might not be able to remove it. That's probably why no one did that yet.
Edit: I found this http://forum.chuwi.com/thread-1848-1-1.html
Maybe you can give it a try. Remember that you do it at your own risks.
Hi and thanks for your replies, no i dont want to take risks, as i am no expert.
the next question is
Can i show more space on android? the 46Gbs taken by windows? do i only get 9Gb of it on android ??

What you're trying to do is getting more space under Android.
That won't go without repartitioning. It's another task for the expert. Although you should be able to access (read) windows partition in Android if you use an app that can mount NTFS drivers in Android system.
Bigger issue. I just tried to reset from window to the if Android disappears. The tablet is stuck at some boot situation. Anyway to solve this plz?

Hi @METAL66 are you still stuck?
I don't have a guaranteed solution (I have original not "Pro") for you but the following helped me get Android working again when it got stuck at the Intel Inside logo.
This tablet is a x86-64 PC, and boots into a UEFI BIOS first.
1. If you don't have the Chuwi keyboard for this tablet, you can use an OTG (on the go) cable to connect a regular PC keyboard to it. I used a USB hub to allow me to connect a USB drive at the same time:
Code:
[Tablet] -- (OTG) -- [USB hub] -- [keyboard]
[USB storage]--------------------/
With the keyboard attached, you can press Del or Esc (a few times) during bootup to enter the BIOS config.
In there you can change things like whether to show a "quiet" boot or not. I turned it off so I see the AMI BIOS info when it first boots.
2. The official Chuwi Web site has self-contained recovery image installers (WinPE based).
This is the tutorial I used to recover Android while preserving Windows 10.
http -- forum.chuwi.com / thread-1283-1-1.html
Among the available recovery images is one that installs Android and causes Windows to be "lost"
http -- forum.chuwi.com / thread-1210-1-1.html
I'm not sure if the WinPE instance they distribute has full control over the partitions (presumably it at least has software on it to allow access to the Android partitions to repair the boot files write the image), but if so, maybe you can use it to delete the Windows Partitions and reclaim the space for use by Android.
