I haven't found another infuse thread with the same issue I have.. so here goes.
I'm trying to determine if I have a phone problem or a me problem. I've now been told on more than one occasion by different people that it's hard to hear me when I'm talking to them on my Infuse. After a few seconds everything seems to normalize and they can hear me again. I thought maybe it was a signal issue, but it happened a third time again today outside of the ATT store where I have a full signal. For as much as I use the phone, I don't talk on it too often. This is why this is a big deal. I might talk on the phone once every other day and if I have these issues as little as I do talk, I'm in trouble if I really do end up needing a reliable phone.
Here comes the question part. Has anyone had any issues with being heard while talking on the Infuse? I'm trying to identify if I have an Infuse problem or a me problem so I can get it swapped out while I'm still within my 30 day period.

I have not had this issue. You should go into AT&T local store and ask if you can test a phone there.
I had a similar problem with the addition of people not recognizing my voice. I took it back to Bestbuy to replace it. He asked if he could look at the sim card first. He pulled it and there was a micro scratch on one of the contacts. He said this has been a problem with 4g cards. He replaced it and the phone works fine now.
Thanks for the reply, I think I'll head over to Best Buy after work and check it out.
Having same issue. Biggest concern when talking to elderly parents. Remember seeing several scratches on card's micro chip. I'll give it a shot

Based on experience with audio issues, I'd say its a network issue more than anything. scratches on a SIM won't cause calling issues, the rep is telling you this on baseless knowledge from what they think considering the actual SIM chip is under the gold plating.

Would that be an issue solely for 4g sim cards/network? Is voice handled on 4g network or just data?

Baseless or not, after he put a new sim card in last week I have not lhad a single complaint from callers.
I have had some issues but I believe its from samsung's noise cancelling. I disabled it in the call menu and it worked fine from then on

Something very weird just started happening with my SamChg.
When I am a few minutes into a phone call (about 3 - 4 minutes), all audio drops out on both sides of the call. The call is still connected, but neither side hears anything anymore.
I did a factory reset on the phone, but it didn't make a difference.
What can be causing this? If I can't use my smartphone as a phone, I'm screwed!
are you running any special ROM or anything because its happening to me as well
I have been having the same problem for almost a month now. I was rooted when this started happening. I went back stock still happened. New 4g card still happened. Another phone still happened. I have been getting the runaround from verizon the whole time they have no clue what is going on.
On a side note asked a friend that works at a little vzw store if they have seen this problem and sure enough she had. She told me that they had a customer go through 4 phones and she started making calls and was told by Customer Support that it was a known thing and there was a software update coming out for that.
After hearing this I called good ole *611 yet again and they were clueless and said they knew nothing about it. *sigh*

Yes, I am running a custom ROM, but it's basically a stock rooted & voodoo'd EE4 ROM (by danalo1979, I think). It's got all the yucky poo-brown colors and all the bloatware.
Same issue here. I'm running completely stock right now, non-rooted. Sometimes the audio will drop at the onset of placing a call (I won't even hear ringing) and sometimes it will happen a few minutes into a call. Other parties do say they can hear me though.
Personally, I've noticed that this problem only happens when I am also connected to a Wireless Network. If I'm running 4G/3G, sometimes I hear echos of my voice, but the audio won't drop out.
Weird, but glad to know others are having this issue and that VZW is aware it's happening.
What should we do? Personally, I'd like to wait for the SG2 to arrive before I start complaining. My plan would be to basically flip out explaining that I need my phone to work like a phone, etc. Then flip out that I paid for 4G and my decision was battery based (so I don't get stuck with a Thunderbolt). I bet I could talk my way into a new SG2 over this... Just saying.

I've had this happen a couple times too...hard to pinpoint consistency. The other thing I've encountered more than once, is that my mic seems to go off mid-conversation, e.g. I can still hear the person on the other end very clearly, but they can't hear me. Anyone else experience this?

Well 2nd Fru and as I told them it would. It does the same thing. Bone stock. *sigh*
One thing that seems odd to me is that I seem to see this problem more when calling another mobile phone vs. a landline.
Maybe it's just my imagination, but I always see problems when calling my wife's mobile phone. Last night, I called a landline for over an hour without any problem.
same here I can talk to customer service for 1hr+ but mobile to mobile most Ican get is maybe 15 min.
I drive around as part of my job and today I tested a call out to my wife who has a charge as well and we were able to talk for over 20 minutes with no issues. That same area I drove through a few days ago caused 3-4 drops in audio before. So in my opinion its a network related issue and hopefully its get fixed 100% cause most of us need our phones to work solidly
To the people losing audio during their calls, can you post your location?
The reason why I ask this is because on the Verizon forums there is an eight page post about this issue. Seems like a lot of people in Arizona are experiencing this. I'm in Chandler, Az and have this issue, especially when calling other VZW people in AZ.
Can't post links yet but check the VZW community forum for the Charge.
Ok we have 2 Infuses at my house and both are getting some king of call garbling. My mothers phone garbles very often and will only work if she hangs up and tries again. My phone on the other hand does the same thing with the added bonus of sometimes having no sound at all when the person picks up. So, is this a common problem or what?
I would like to add that some times the garbling goes both ways so that I hear the distortion on my phone when she calls (I mean this distortion is not related to our voices, ittl just happen by itself prompting a "did you just hear that?"
Thanks for any help you guys can give me, Im starting to wish I could still return it for another phone.
Is your sim card new?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda premium
Sure isnt. I havent had a problem on my backup phone.
Weird. No problems like that - the only audio problem I've seen reported any time recently is the Hellraiser first-call bug - but that only applies if you're running a Hellraiser ROM.
Really sounds to me like something is funky with your local towers... Maybe something the Infuse specifically doesn't like.
What was your backup phone? You never know, getting a new sim may help.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda premium
Network issue, just because another different model phone doesn't have the save issue means nothing. Your backup device could be GSM only for all we know while the Infuse uses WCDMA priority and GSM as a backup.
A SIM swap won't do anything unless you were getting no signal at all. Call at&t and report it, they'll most likely file a service request and send an engineer out to check it out.
Being that I used to be in telecommunications for T-mobile, this was a frequent issue I dealt with.

Is anyone else using their infuse with an ATT Microcell? If so what kind of issues are you having if any. I cannot run any modem besides the two stock Froyo modems.... Any other modems cause several issues. One issue is that sms and mms messages fail at a rate of around 65% . They simply dont send...With or Without WIFI on ..Same result. Another issue is that the sound quality is deminished to an unusable level.
I have seen several other posts about the MIcrocell but none of them have produced a good result. I would love to someday be able to run a custom ROM...But if the trade is the aformentioned issues, it isnt worth it.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
I use a Microcell and I do not have any problems. I use Google Voice for texting so I have no experience with messaging through the carrier.

So ... I thought I would be an informed man if I went over to the Galaxy Note forum and post my Microcell question. I asked if anyone was having the issues that my fellow Infuse owners are experiencing with their Microcell and the G-Note.
After not getting a response and over 50 people had looked at the thread ... someone finally responded. I will some up what they said.
The ATT version isn't out yet. No one can answer this question. I immediately felt noobish and dumb.
So after my posts here about the Microcell ... I still have no fix. And after my post over at the g-note o feel stupid. No winning for me in either case. Mom and Dad both denied my requests.
On a separate note: I went my the ATT store in Marion IL. I asked the salesman when they would have a G-Note in stock... he replied " oh! You mean the Phablet ?" . I almost threw up. Is anyone actually using that term? I see the logic in the term but just saying it out loud makes that beast of a phone sound like wuss that gets picked last when choosing last for a kick ball game!
Way to wuss it up ATT.

I have had an Infuse since June and relied on a M-Cell until recently. In as short of an answer as possible the M-Cell does not work well with 4G phones especially the Infuse. SMS are sent over data signals and that is where the bottleneck is. Get used to it, my texts would fail 50-80 percent of the time and I lost about half of my calls in under 15 minutes.
FYI: I called AT&T and demanded a refund for the M-Cell as it was causing my reception issues, after the unhook my phone is tolerable though not perfect. I received a $165 credit on my bill and then sold the M-Cell on ebay.

I am very happy that you have signal without your mcell. I however have no choice. We have 3 4g phones and only the infuse has this issue. The other disturbing fact is that I don't have the issue with Froyo. By deduction I am left to assume that the issue is the radio.

I have microcell at my home, i got from ATT for free when I have signal issue with my iPhone. After getting infuse, i didnt had any issues in terms of data. I never use SMS so i dont know about it.
But when I use micro cell, my batter drains too fast. so now i stopped using microcell, and now I have better signal in my home.

I had the same issues with stock Froyo, Infused 2.2.3, and stock GB, this of course does not disprove your theory as there are different modems. I just saw a lack of usability across 3 builds and gave up on the gadget and got my money back.
What I don't get is that my phone always showed 5 bars, so I infer the gremlin is not the radio, but some failure between the devices to handshake properly and this borks up the whole affair. Who knows though your theory is as valid as mine.
Just my $.02
I had this same issue when I had my infuse. It drove me bonkers so I finally sold the infuse and bought the sgs2 international version. It works perfectly with the M-Cell so maybe the note will too. Hope that's at least a little help.
Got microcell free also have horrible battery drain, have to resend sms atleast 10 times for it to go out, same with inbound SMS most of the time won't get them until I walk outside and disconnect from mcell then 5 or 6 will sms will come in at once, while my girls iPhone 4 sends/recieves texts fine over mcell

if you are familiar with the call echo bug on the samsung galaxy s2 (hercules) you know what im talking about.
the s2 from tmous have call echo bug when you are using a port rom and sometimes on cm9
you dont hear the echo, the person you are talking to hears it. and now i am experience the same issue with my sensation running viper s 1.1.0
but my question is why.. I can understand the s2 because it uses something called noise reduction.
I done hard reset and reflash the rom but the echo comes and goes.
do you guys think it have something to do with my sim card?

I'm still looking the forums to see what rom catch my. just got the sensation ''again'' a lot of new stuff around, also if the problem still occurs then I may have to change the sim card
Every now and then I will get the echo you are referring to. It's almost as you hear yourself talking while you talk. It is very annoying. For me it doesn't happen often but it happens. This even happens to my daughter and she's stalk using sg3 brand new device. I'm not sure what causes it but somehow I think it's related to the connection. Not really the Rom . Otherwise it wouldn't happen to my daughter's device also because she's completely stock. Not convinced the sim card has much to do with it. It also happens to my mom who is using a generic device. Does it happen to you constantly? Or randomly? I might talk with my provider to see if something can be done at there end.when it happens to me, if I hang up , then call again, establishing a new connection It's gone. This is one reason I always thought it was a connection issue. Several people I know experience it from time to time. But if it's happening to you constantly, then defiantly something needs to be done about it! It is rather annoying. If you do find out exactly what is causing this please post about it as I'm also curious about the cause. It doesn't happen enough to me to be a issue and I've always chalked it up to bad connection but if you do find the reason for the issue I'd be interested to know the answer. Best wishes.

I had never have this issue before, ever since I got the s2 everybody tells me about the echo, a dev from the s2 have a patch to fix it. and it does but then again it always happend when you are using a port rom from the skyrocket.
Now the I have the sensation People have told me that they hear an echo but sometimes I either have to reboot or hang up and call again.
I have noticed that ever since the s2 and the amaze came out they came out with a new sim card to support the 42 download speed, I run out of my data speed faster.
about the bad connection my friend that works on tmobile told me that it might not be the sim card that its a tmous issue that it always have been and it drops calls as well
but he also told me that sim cards can go out in time and needs replacement. Im going to get a new sim and see what happens. Lately people hasnt complained about the echo so I might need to wait a little. I thought that it might be the rom when its been ported from another phone but like you said that your daughter is all stock and still have this issue.
Yes It's true my daughter has the same issue. She is completely stock.. I really think somehow Its related to connection. She just complained of this issue last week.

I’ve had my One S for 4 weeks now and every week brings a different problem plus it would appear to be worse since the 4.0.4 update.
1. Intermittent microphone problems.
2. Intermittent reboots with error reports.
3. Mobile data dropping out or won’t switch off or back on.
4. Complete loss of network signal after long period of shut down.
5. Aeroplane mode locked the phone completely requiring a reboot.
Don’ know whether to send back to the store who might not find anything wrong because most of the problems are intermittent, or contact HTC ???
Wish I had stuck with my One V!!!!

I have the loss of signal issue, mostly indoors. Never had that issue with my other phones. It is worrying me cause I just purchased this phone on a new contract and only have about 5 more days to decide if i want to keep them or not? With this issue and seeing all the terrible issues in the custom ROM's I am afraid I will hate this phone compared to my GNex. I understand Jellybean has not been officially released yet so there will be issues but is there any ICS ROM's that run without issues? My past experience with less popular phones is we can never get a truly great daily driver. Any reassurance will be greatly appreciated!

"For further testing, we would ask you to reset the phone without the SIM card in the phone(Hard resetting the phone will delete all data on the phone memory). Exactly the issue I am having on my new one s. Only have a few days to decide whether I want to keep it or not. It's not looking like a keeper! Never had the complete signal drops showing an X before. Texts keep getting denied til the service comes back.

I hear ya.
It's a shame because I REALLY like this phone. Feels great in the hand, build quality is fantastic, and overall it's super smooth and fast.
I hate to give it up, but I can't have signal issues like this at home. Even the wifi calling has had a couple issues so far.
I need my phone to work, plain and simple.
Thinking I might go with the Galaxy S3. Probably the only phone that will make me not miss this one so much.

I'm quite sure if you went with the Galaxy Nexus you wouldn't miss this phone either.
I suppose you have fought with your service provider just like I am right? HTC is telling me to try a different back cover and/or do a factory reset. they claim they are not hearing any issues like this with this phone. I kind of figured I would have issues because Cincinnati Bell does not get the best phones, I had major issues with their XT720. I should have known better. This is why I just bought the GNex from Google, I was gonna avoid signing a new contract then CBW offered me such a great deal on 5 new phones if I resigned so i went with it.
I just tested calls with my galaxy nexus and the HTC one S by calling each other and I got to say call quality with the HTC is much better. Louder and more clear. But I am running a sound volume tweak for my Gnex and it doesn't prove to be louder with in call volume. I will have to get rid of that tweak and see the difference

Problem is that I don't want to spend the money on the Nexus. I got the One S as a warranty replacement, so I'm not spending any money. I'd have to shell out cash to get the Nexus.

I reflashed my ROM on my GNex and now the sound quality for both are exactly the same.

Well if it is a new warranty replacement it comes with a new 12month warranty, sell the one S to earn the money for the GNex. I have both and personally I like the GNex better. So many ROM's and kernels to choose from and none of the issues with the Gnex that i see here with the One S. Besides, by the time the One S get's jellbean, Gnex will be getting Key Lime Pie!
I noticed something else today...
If I look closely at my screen, there seems to be some banding going on, as if there is radio intereference with the screen's signal. Like what happened on old tv's when the signal wasn't coming in perfectly clear.
Anyone else experiencing this???
