hey guys,
just installed a game called Pirates and Traders from android market today..
i'm so surprised that this game is *very* similar with java game for symbian Sid Meier's Pirates!.
what drives me to the wall is this game asking for payment to remove the annoying ads. this sounds like davinci developer.
whatchu think?
well its not like its a game on android that it has been ripped from so cant really say its stolen. ive not seen any other like it for android yet. perhaps they took the idea from the symbian based version and ported it over to android. even if it is a pay to remove ads, people porting games need to be paid to as its not like they can just copy, paste, and change the file type.
Two points:
Firstly, there is nothing illegal or wrong about making a clone of another game; the idea for a game is not copyrightable. If it was, there would not be very many RTS or FPS games available to buy. In short, if P&T was a clone of Sid Meier's Pirates - which it actually is not - there would be nothing wrong with it being so.
Now, if all you had done here was accuse me of cloning this game, I wouldn't have bothered replying to this post. At this point, I've read people claim (with varying degrees of hate or love, depending on the person) that P&T is a clone of 6 or 7 pretty different games - including one that got released 6 months after Pirates and Traders (I apparently own time machine technology ). I can live with that - like every other game ever made, P&T is inspired by many of the games that have gone before it.
However, you go beyond that to make unfounded accusations, which brings me to my second point.
If you have played the game (which I almost doubt, given your comment), you would surely have noted that:
1) Pirates and Traders is a turn-based RPG/strategy game, not real-time with arcade mini-games. In other words, completely different game mechanics.
2) The graphics used in P&T are completely different.
3) The game interface is completely different.
Which makes me wonder - how exactly do you get from there to the idea of comparing me to the davinci developer? You know - if you don't like the game, that is your prerogative - I make games for my own fun, first and foremost. But the next time you wish to accuse someone of being a thief or copyright infringer, please do a little actual research first.

There are reviews on the Android Store too about this good original game being a copy of another game (usually Sid Meyer's Pirates), but I think the only explanation for those is that those people simply only themselves know about one game on the subject before this, and incorrectly think the one they know was some sort of original idea, rather than the (historical) subject of many games and books and movies and so on. And yes, even if there were only one other game on the same subject, it would not be a "rip off" , and in any case this game is notably different from Pirates.

You guys see this? They call it Marble Worlds, but I remember playing it back in the day and it was Marble Madness. G-Sen activated. Downloading the demo as I type.
Playing demo: You have to turn the accelerometer on in settings. Also,t he resolution is not true VGA. I think they wrote it for the iPhone and just copied the images over. You'll know what I'm talking about when you start playing. it's not bad, it's just not as sharp as Resco Bubbles.
Brief write up here: http://www.fuzemobility.com/?p=1419
Marble Worlds is not related to marble madness in any way.
...but thanks for informing us of the new version that supports accelerometer.
Its not free
freakin 15 bucks instead of 3 on iphone
It's not related to Marble Madness but it's a very close sibling (maybe different by name only). The demo is free if nothing else. I suspect they'll drop the price to something closer to the iPhone price, but I doubt it ever gets to $3.
oops
oops plz delete post

It's in no way at all different by name only and please stop insisting on this since you just confuse people.
I remember the first version of Marble Worlds and is a completely different game, AFAIK the ball can even jump if needed. No relation to Marble Madness, just of course the idea. (which MM I also remember well from the time it was created plus play it some times in emulators)
BTW, the original Marble Madness *IS* available for PocketPC for quite a few years now... search the Internet.
EDIT: In fact let me help you:

Sorry- no idea you were so passionate about what was Marble Madness and what wasn't even though (as you said) it's the same idea behind these two games...but don't worry - I won't compare these two games with the same idea any longer...
OK.
It's like saying that Worms is the same as Lemmings.
I grew up with all those games...
I grew up wi ththem too...from my Tandy, Adam and Intellivision. I even bought the Intellivision tv plugin thing they released a few years ago so you just had a controller with 20 games...it's not the same as the original
I haven't really posted here before (just rather used xda for learning/issues mostly) so im sorry if I'm posting in the wrong forum for requesting apps. I've done some reading and it seems a dreamcast emulator is still a ways off, but I'm not really worried about dreamcast as much as I am the game ikaruga. I only played this game a few times at a friends house but I fell in love with it. I think this game could run well on newer phones with good processors. I have a droid x and would be forever grateful to whoever could bring this game to the droid and I would totally pay for this if it were released. Just a suggestion..
I would pay for this as well! Definitely the best vertical shooter in my mind.

I agree. Not only was this game beautifully laid out and full of action, it was also a puzzle at the same time. You had to shoot the hell outta things as well as change the light/dark modes to avoid masses of bullets/missles/debri/etc...It was very hard yet challenging and you had to pretty much remember the patterns of each level in order to get further. Like you said, the best vertical shooter i've ever played in my opinion and I only played it a few times.
Ikaruga was fun. Although it wouldn't exactly be possible to do a direct port.. Especially as it's a commercial game where we don't have access to the source and DC emulation isnt great on computers. rRootage (concept based on Ikaruga, nowhere near as good) is open source I believe and was ported to the PSP a while back. Kenta Cho's games are awesome

Ya, I've read nothing but troubles with dreamcast emulation. Even though new phones could handle it, I know that the process is very difficult (even though I know very little about programming/development). Even a game like you mentioned thats based off Ikaruga would suffice. I want a vertical shooter thats not just shootem up but actually has a puzzle-like atmosphere where you have to you use your problem-solving skills as well as be very quick and strategic with your enemies. I was just enchanted by a game that was so difficult when you first started but got easier as you remembered where to switch light/dark as well as handle an onslaught of enemies (who were also more weak/resistant to each of the modes which added for even more strategy.). Almost impossible at first, but with promise to move further if you had good skills; unlike some games that are basically impossible to beat without cheats. You'd think I played this game a lot seeing how much I'm talking about it but I only was able to make it through the first 2 levels or so b/c it was so difficult and I only got to play it a few times at a friends.
Back to the subject though, someone pretty pleeease develop a game similar to this.
Say Hello to a new World.
There are few games on mobile that are insanely addictive. Parallel Kingdom AOT, is by far the most intriguing one I have come across. PK comes across as a MMORG, which uses the GPS on your phone to place you in your actual location in game.
The game starts you off as an explorer beginning his/her journey. As you continue your adventure, you level up, get upgraded weapons and armor, and slay monsters day in day out. You constantly play alongside other players, from throughout the world, teaming with them to form kingdoms, cities and alliances.
Parallel Kingdom uses Google Maps as the background, and makes use of GPS satellites to place you in your real life location. New updates including the satellite map feature lead to you actually getting the sense that you are enjoying a high seas adventure with your mates, or leading an expedition through the Sahara desert, or struggling through the Amazon forest, slaying any monsters that come you way.
The great thing about PK is that you continue in the same place you leave. So you don’t have to worry about getting back to where you log off. Perblue devs have managed to create an amazing game through almost a 3-year period.
PK is available on both Android and iOS.The game has reached the 1,000,000 player mark and is spreading fast. The game is a nice change from Angry Birds, and maybe a step away from it and possibly all other games. Don't blame me if you end up becoming a PK addict.
Try to use my referral code at the end of the tutorial.
Use kmfkl to get 300 food, and 1000 gold. My in-game name is democrats , message me and i'll get you into a nice city and kingdom.

Hello new world......you got WoW por la me?
Seriously try this, this is an epic game. Not the 3-d graphics etc you would normally want from a mobile RPG. However, this is really an exceptional game, and it runs very smoothly, plus its easy to adapt to and very hard to get away from it.
Thanks for the tip, gonna have to try this out now!
Bump, people message me in game, my name's 'democrats', il try to help you out.

no thanks.
I believe you're overreacting.
The developers likely use SMS for the in-game chat. Thus why the permission is needed.
looks awesome

The game uses food as a currency. Food can be bought with real cash, dollars pounds etc. One of the payment methods which can be used is Zong. Zong uses messages to get u food, I am not sure about the entire procedure but thats the basics. If you wish to buy food you are directed to a message which if you send gets you the amount of food you want to buy.
This was brought up on the PK forums as well.
hey... Helloooo new world
I sent out messages to all the people who started playing, just send me a if you need any help at all.
Front page?
This game has been out for years, you advertise it on the forum along with your referral code and it gets on the front page? Did you make the game?

I am not one of the devs. However, people at XDA looking for intuitive, exciting, and enjoyable content, and PK, is that. So it was'nt a surprise that this ended up on the front page.
It was maybe lost on the XDA forums, because when I checked for other threads about PK, there were a couple from two years ago.
This is a brilliant game and it deserves to be highlighted on the front page regardless of the day it was launched.

DB - Its people like you that are making XDA what it is now, D-Bags like you....
As far as OP goes, I love this game been playing for a few months too......It's very addicting and constant changes and improvements to gameplay and strategy. The Devs are great at listening to the users and giving them what they want. One of the best parts about this game is it's multi-platform so you are playing with IPhone players as well so the vast amount of people playing is ridiculousness. I got the same name on the game as here so look me up.

LOL! D-Bags made XDA the efficent dev forum we know and love? And I'm one of those d-bags? Oh, I feel special.
As for pk, I played it about 2 years ago, lasted an entire month and a half with me playing seldomly. I'm no longer an active player, but it was a great time waster when there's nothing else to do.
Thats pretty neat
interesting...

Two years ago this game was more or like in its initial stages, but now it's been under developed for quite some time and has improved a lot.
I suggest that you give it another shot, you might get hooked on to it now.

Gameloft hits again, this time by ruining Dungeon Hunter series. While DH2 was one of the most awesome gmes I played on my phone, DH3 is a failure, a disater I could say.
Comparing the two games you get this:
DH2:
- epic, interesting story and quests
- awesome items, mobs, locations
- awesome abilities
- awesome class selection and possibilities
- many more
DH3:
Gameloft presents you the sequel of one of our best games, Dungeon Hunter. We now offer unlimited possibilities of classes - only 4. We also offer a new, far more interesting story - A fighter's life in an arena! That's right, forget about quests, characters and locations and get straight to the main point - fighting infinite mobs!
We got rid of the skilling system and reworked the leveling system. Instead of just plain leveling, you can now share this important event on Facebook so everyone will know that you're forever alone! But that's not all, remember how you were finding the items in chests, from mobs or buying them from vendors? That was stupid, so now, in DH3, you must wait REAL TIME minutes or hours to get your items ready.
So why wait? Play now the most awesome sequel ever made, for free!
Unfortunately I didn't play DH1, but from what I saw it's as interesting as the 2nd. So what is your opinion about Gameloft ruining this sequel?
DH3 totally blows. I hate it. DH2 was awesome. WTH GL..... I played it for about 10 minutes and fell asleep... no joke. GL just seems to be screwing up major as of late. Botched controls in Splinter Cell, game glitch in MC3, MC2, Shadow Guardian.
All in all... GL sucks anyway. No one like their Wapshop (i call it CrapShop) and use the Market so we can get refunds to their buggy sucky games. I have a real bone to pick with them. I have made posts on their forums and get told if I dont edit my post I will get my account banned.. all sorts of BS. You buy from GL you get grabbed by the Ball$... rant done or I could go forever
I have an idea, that I imagine is not at all original. An idea that I have harbored for a long time now, but seems ever more important as the release of android gaming consoles become a reality.
I think that android needs "achievements" or trophies or accomplishments if you wanna be original. I'd love to see Google "certify" certain game titles (because crappy short easy games would ruin the system) and have each title have a max of 100 accomplishment points and perhaps even have gamer ID's like Xbox live. What do you guys think? I just knew my brother rents a lot of games he wouldn't otherwise play to get achievements and it seems like it could be a great thing for developers.
