Data Usage - Samsung Infuse 4G

Hey guys,
Is anyone else having serious problems with data usage? Mine is getting used frivolously fast, and I don't have unlimited? Is there any way that I can upgrade to unlimited, or workaround data reports? I'm screwed if I can't fix this... Any tips would be great.
Thanks,
SCK

Please guys... its getting ridiculous. I turned off data network, used the number to check my data usage, and it went up. I tried it again later, and it went up again. Are they intentionally faking data usage to force me over the 2gb? Anyone else having problems like this at all?

Unfortunately there is no work around for data plan, my suggestion is use WiFi and turn off cell data network when you're not needing it. I have Verizon Unlimited 4G, but I have a grandfathered AT&T 4G plan as well and my data usage is approaching 20GB this month and I don't even tether!! I just watch a lot of movies and stream things like radio constantly. I don't have WiFi anywhere I go except home.

If you have sync with facebook and things like that and email runnin youll.have that. I dont have unlimited data but I dont watch mine either so I dunno. Id also turn background data off

Today, I turned off sync, deactivated data network, and only used wifi. it went up by at least 120mb. Does the iphone 2g thing work or no?

Did you ever think that 120mb data you went up while not on data was just lagging behind in the logs on the system? I mean, i how real time is the data usage logs? Figure that out first

I've been measuring usage for a while. The data use came out of nowhere. Does anyone have an iphone 2g for sale/rent/loan because I cannot survive on the 2 gb plan

I don't have unlimited... I have the 2GB plan... and I guess I just don't use data at all... I mean I have WiFi turned on most of the day so I think it pops onto WiFi when I am at home or at work. I just tried *3282# and it said I had 364MB out of 2048MB used and I've had the phone for over two weeks now lol... you think it's server lagged?
I sync my gmail accounts, use facebook (a lot) and I stream Pandora everywhere I go... so I don't know...

get my data manager to see which program is using so much data and then either uninstall it or get droidwall and block it.
droidwall lets you set a list of apps that can access data only over wifi.
both are free in the market

Im an at&t rep and yes the iphone 2g works...if your in miami i can help.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA Premium App

It's odd that youve got so much phantom data use. I have an unlimited plan and probably use 10-20gb a month because I stream radio and video all day at work. Our other phone has a 2gb plan and I think she has used maybe 200mb of the 2gb in 2 weeks just checking emails/facebook/etc.

Switch to Sprint the true no caps unlimited data. Other than that there is no more tricks to get unlimited.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA Premium App

Now with Audiogalaxy, Amazon Cloud Player and Google Music I imagine data consumption will jump up. I'm consistently over 2Gb for the last two months.
Right now I don't have any music on my phone, I stream it all.

Anyone have an iphone 2g that they would be willing to loan or rent. I want to be able to monitor my support thread and PM's, but I can't without wifi or data :/

Will this work with a 3g or 3gs iPhone?

i just realized why you are asking for a iphone 2g. didn't know you can trick the system like that....i'm interested in borrowing on as well. =D

If I get one, I would gladly pass it around the community

There is a pending lawsuit against at&t for false data usage. I believe i saw this on phonescoop.Com

That's not true, I work for AT&T and there is no such app. As far as getting unlimited, if you been a customer for a while and call retentions and tell them you will cancel to go to another carrier, they will transfer you and try to get unlimited data. I've called many times for customers and have a 60% success rate, if one says no, call back, someone will appreciate your business and ask for supervisor to please add unlimited data for you.

Massive Data USAGE OMG WTF. Leak?

So I checked my data usage today. I was actually logging in to find authorized accessories and noticed some insanely high data usage. It seems in 36 hours I used as much data as I used in a month on the EVO. Granted in the last month since I got the XOOM my data usage is closer to 400MB, but still I am worried by usage of 100MB in a day.
EVERYONE check your data usage and see if you also have insanely high amounts of data usage. Anyone know a way to track data usage by app?
The only thing I have that syncs on the phone is my google account, calendar, gmail, contacts. It is the same as it was on my EVO.

Yea. I think we have some sort of glitch that is sucking down data exponentially.
You guys know that usage number on VZW is since the last statement right? So that's 18 days worth.

Yeah, I'm already at 1.3 gig and I'm only 10 days into my billing cycle. Which I knew my usage was going to go up. I'll be tethering much more now. But I don't see any "unusual" usage on mine.
Something definately going on. 2 day old Verizon customer and I'm at 135 MB.
My fear in all this is that I need to make sure that I keep my data usage under 5GB a month. I want to be prepared for the day when unlimited data goes the way of the dodo bird. I also don't know where that data came from. I am using 3G watchdog now, but I wish it didnt have that stupid tray icon.

I can say mine was off yesterday in its box pretty much all day, and then I finally got time today to turn it on, but I haven't configured it. I did however use google to look up something quickly tonight and my usage so far is 2.72MB. I can say since I was smartphoneless for the last 7 weeks this is actual data, but seems high given I did a short google search.
yeah something is going on. I just signed up with Verizon yesterday, I literally charged the phone last night and downloaded all my apps today. already at 775Mb! What gives? I haven't used the hotspot, REALLY WEIRD!

Speed tests with the speedtest.net app use about 10M down and 2M up each test. Running that 10 times over 2 days could easily account for 100+ MB.

13GB's of data last month

I posted once before asking why the inspire used so much data. Lots of people claimed it didn't and something must be wrong. Well the prior month the phone used 12GB of data. I just finished my month with a whopping 13GB of data and just 1 day into my new month, i'm already at 1.7GB used. I haven't touched the phone but maybe once to look up a restaurant's number. There has to be a glitch somewhere. AT&T again said "Don't worry, you have unlimited data. You have nothing to worry about". I'll post my data usage picture soon.
God damn! Lucky you have unlimited. Try and use advance task killer pro and have it so it closes everything when you close your screen. Works for me

only reason mine goes so high is from streaming netflix in HD to my tv lol
I recently started using roms but the 12gb last month was pure stock rom usage. It's insane. Just basic apps, no pandora, no netflix, etc. I'm lost lol.
you sell your soul to Google with Android
Do you have like 5000 friends on Facebook syncing or something?
Lol, nope. Maybe 125 friends and I rarely check it. I'm telling you, this is so weird. I'm already at 1.7gb from 1 1/2 days of usage. It's crazy.
Just be glad your not on t-mobile

You can stream netflix if you tether so it was not an odd thing to include.

Something's horribly wrong or you have something running in the background. I don't enable WiFi for anything and I download kernels/roms/things from this forum all the time over cellular and my data usage is around 500 - 800mb a month.

I chew through my 3GB a month here in Australia every month, but that's because I constantly tether when my home internet connection is capped. Therefore I download heavily when tethering (Mainly from XDA). But **** 13 GB? I'd be charged like 1000$ bill in excessive usage, I kid you not.
EDIT: Plus I make skype voice calls over 3G.
turn off your data in the phone or use wifi.

It's crazy because I just checked from my iPad and it showed 2.3gb used so far and that's after 2 1/2 days.

[Q] A way to tether without the carrier seeing data usage

I heard that if you are running a custom ROM, that if you go into the ROM files and go to systems, app, and find device manager and remove the device manager app, the carrier can't see how much data or how it's being used on your phone. Does anyone know anything about whether or not this is real? If it were that simple I would think some of you Senior Member guys would have figured that out. Hopefully someone knows if it is B.S. or not. Thanks as always.

its easy to get them not to see if you are tethering, just delete tethermanager from /system/app. as for data usage, they provide your data, they can see how much you use whether or not you want to. download the myatt app if you want to monitor to see what they have you down for used data. if you are on an unlimited plan you dont really have to worry about this, only if you want to know when youll be throttled, but thats easy to get around.

Well, if you have a support ROM (I know CM7 supports it, stock doesn't however.) Go to Settings->Wireless and networks->Mobile Networks and look for a section called network mode I think, and you should have the options of WCDMA, GSM, and WCDMA/GSM. You want to click WCDMA. also, you could try setting your APN as wap.cingular and seeing if that works to get rid of throttling. Hope this helps!

wait your complaining about a 2 gig cap but you signed the contract ?
I've gotten the AT&T dreaded text/email twice in total. The first time I was definitely tethering. The second I hadn't tethered since the first time (over a month), so I gave them an earfull about it. I'm still on unlimited and I'm still tethering...
What I do to [hopefully] avoid the hammer coming down is a little more involved than most, but it seems to have worked thus far.
I've created a VPN to my home network (using OpenVPN). I have configured the phone to send all internet traffic over the VPN when connected. Using compression, it's actually pretty quick. I don't really notice any difference in speed, and every packet leaving my device and destined for the internet is encrypted. Let 'em try to sniff that!
This is a little further than most are willing to go, and arguably more than is necessary, but I really like my unlimited data. I'm going to do whatever I can to make sure I get to keep it (short of not stopping my tethering practices - I mean, let's not be stupid!)

Sry if this topic was covered already-but I'm wondering if it's a bad idea to use my Xbox on a free hotspot. I've read foxfi is great..but I also learned that downloading a power control widget with the hotspot toggle included that it provides the stock hotspot for free. It worked indeed..though unclear if this is using verizons paid hotspot...didn't warn of any charges or anything. My laptop connected to the stock hotspot though couldn't get internet(tho it's switching between 4g and 3g).

I tether to my xbox all the time using foxfi, it says about 13MB of data were used while using it for a fairly long time. It only needs to download vector positions of people and such for Call Of Duty I would think, so not too data intensive at all. I dunno about other games.

I could have sworn, just like vz nav, vzw only charges for the hotspot for the use of its app.
Use vz nav, spend 9.99 a month, or, use google nav for free.
Use vzw hotspot, 30.00 a month or, use foxfi for free.
I've never seen vzw advertise the accrued data usage as the fee for the hotspot- only the use of the app.

On the Droid X running gb, there were three system files that had something to do with data service provider. It was determined that these apks could monitor tethering. They were easily removed. Not sure about today, but it used to be that when tethering, if you weren't redirected to vzw's Page showing pricing for tethering then you were okay. I did notice that the built in hotspot app now requires a subscription to even turn it on.

There is no "best" deal, but a popular one I know of and use is with T-Mobile, a non-contract $30 a month plan with unlimited data(first 5gb at 4g speed) unlimited texting and 100 talking minutes. I rooted my phone and can now tether without the fee and I use an app to make free phone calls. 5gb of data is a lot for phone usage, even if you tether it should last you a month. If you're looking for a home internet service though you should still order wifi because 4g speed isn't great on laptops.

I'm with T-mob and pay much more than you for pretty much the same thing. What apps are you using?
