Searched Google, searched XDA, and asked my far-a-way living brother but haven't received much help. I want to start making roms, preferably for the G1, how/where do i start! I would love links and suggestions and such. Thank y'all.

Hello, i have been coming here for some time, and reading searching trying to learn and understand . I have been trying to find threads on how to cook your own rom, have been playing around with different kitchens and just trying to read and figure it out by my own.
But no success so far non that i would call a fully working rom
Either i need someone with to much time on their hands, or a xda cooking dictionary that explains the technical terms in a childlike way
So i am just wondering if anyone with some knowledge and experience could help me out? through PM and mail or whatever.

There are several message boards/forums out there, but not really anything like xda.
There are sites for different things about the iPhone. iPodTouchFans is possibly the biggest forum for iDevices, so I'd start there.

ok, let me first get this out of the way... I dont care if this is breaking the rules and has been asked before, i am not willing to spend the rest of my life searching through vast amounts of text on this site to maybe, just maybe, find that someone once before asked what im asking, this is a forum, questions are suposed to be asked here.
Irritated rant after spending hours looking and not finding over.
So simply my question is, is there a definitive guide to, i dont know what were calling it, its not jail breaking, thats for iphones, and its not updating, because its not the proper software, anyway whatever we're calling it, im looking for a definitive guide to upgradating?? the HTC Tattoo to 2.2, (Froyo).
now i know it can be done, ive seen lots of people say they have done it.
Ive found the guides on general dicussion.
But is every HTC android phone the same to upgradate? The guide isnt specific to any phone, just says "android"
Any help or pointing of in the right direction is much appreciated

Bloody typical mind, I dont think any of these mods sites be it iphone, xbox360, or this are very newbie friendly. in my experience of firmware mods etc ive found your supposed to know everything immediatly and the only people that get help are those who have an idea to start with.
So please, one of the 58 or so next to look at this thread, please leave some answers... or just point me in the right direction, im very capable.
What you're looking to do is root your phone & then install a custom rom that has 2.2 firmware.
There are multiple methods to root, not sure about your model of phone. But try searching about rooting, there are plenty of guides. It's something you need to read up on before you do it or else you'll end up bricking your phone.

Spend hours yesterday reading, reading and more reading about what to do, but with different methodes out there i wanted someone to explain just what i would be trying to do (rooting aparently).

I'm a little bit of a noob when it comes to doing things like this. I have asked on other forums, and I've searched the internet countless times, and I've found nothing. I want the samsung live wallpaper, luminescense (spelling?) on my droid incredible. It's been made for other phoned to download without rooting, but not mine. Hi all, i need some help with the galaxy s2. i want to mod this phone so i can get free apps, change the way it looks and works, and to keep up with the lads at work who have modded mobiles!! but im a complete noob when it comes to anything like this and have no idea on what im doing. i can see alot of posts on here saying modding and rooting etc.... but which 1 does what? ive read through most of them and still dont fully understand! can someone please point me in the right direction for a beginners guide to modding galaxy s2 or give me a idea on what i should do to make it better!! thanks alot and hi to all agiain as i am new to this site!!
start by reading on the forums of your device, there are lots and lots of info you can pick there, once you have some idea and have some doubts, you can ask more specific questions, that ppl will be more eager to reply and help you, but none will come to give you a "for dummies" introductory guide
