I had this same issue..that is, until I downloaded widgetsoid2.x and created a media scan widget. I just download a song from the mp3 downloader app, do a media scan and then I'm set. Hope this helps
mine is perfectly fine i put 3 albums in root and it recognized them without any issue and i could download the covers too

I have noticed when i download a folder containing music files via torrent it will not show up in music player!
Whats the format of ur music in the folder? Normally it will auto detect all the media

It's mp3. Go ahead and try yourself, download sth via torrent and post the result
I tried copying folders of music which I've downloaded from various sources, and they've all worked fine. Your question is pretty vague though.
There's many ways to get music onto your phone; let us know exactly what you did, and we'll be able to see if there's a step you missed.
eg:
1) downloaded torrent from website
2) ran torrent in uTorrent, to download music
3) connected phone to PC in "USB Storage" mode
4) copied downloaded music to 'Music' folder on phone.
The more detail you give, the more easy it will be to figure out what's going wrong.
Personally, I use WinAmp on both PC and Sensation, because that will allow me to sync my music over WiFi, so I don't even have to have my phone nearby - I can leave it in the next room and think "Hey, I need XYZ album for tonight", load WinAmp, and it sends the album to my phone. Nice.
Ok here goes:
1. Installed aDownloader
2. Searched for a torrent that downloads a .mp3 format
3. Downloaded the song
4. Opened the song to check if it is a valid file with FileExpert and Astro,
both played the song without problems
5. Opened the Music Player and did not found the song in the library
6. Moved the downloaded song from the aDownliader folder to Music folder
7. Still not showing in the Music library.
All steps were made without the usage of a pc...
Any thoughts?
Reboot your phone OR download something like SDrescan.....
Sent from one of my phones..... If only I could remember which one....
Some .mp3 won't be on the music library. The only way I've managed to play those mp3's, is to launch it directly from the file. Weird, I know.

Lol, it's somewhat funny.. no it's more like, tragicomic, yeah, tragicomic is the word that such a beast of a phone doen't support the simplest of all features, editing song info in music player and manually scaning the library for new files hahah
Sdrescan saved me and fixed the prob, i gave u +1 for that
P.s rebooting also does the trick but takes a bit longer (the startup scan is to blame)

Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA Premium App
"folder music instead of the muSic"? I'm not understanding what you mean. Are you saying you want to create a playlist but not have to choose from your whole library but instead choose from one folder?
What i want to do is pick a whole music folder and get that as my playlist instead. (something like in itunes the u can drop a whole folder in and thats a playlist

Use Astro http://www.talkandroid.com/android-forums/android-chat/1830-browse-music-folder.html#post25429
Just tried it - it works. Didn't know Astro could do that.
Aftering rooting with Stock, my video player is requesting that I open WiFi in order to play a movie from my sd card.
Has anyone else had this issue and what was done to correct it?
Thank you in advance
Sounds like you are using the connected media app on your phone instead of the gallery or watch (it maybe videos, im running bamf gingerbread). I just tested mine, and when using the connected media app and selecting videos, I get a prompt asking me to connect to wifi.

Do you mean a connected media like VLC?
No, I believe all sense roms have an app called connected media. Try looking for it in your app drawer.

Roger...Got it. I down loaded MoboPlayer app and now I am using it
excursively as media play (movie player). Do you have any other suggestions for media player apps?
Thank you again!
I use v player. Simple to use and has all the standard screen ratios. Rockplayer lite irritated me with the damn pop up everytime I tried to use it.
Ok, I will play around with V player again. Thank you very much!
Hi,
Does anyone know where the Google Music app stores the downloaded music on the sd? I uploaded some music files to my Google Music account and my sensation made it available offline... as i know that means it downloaded the music on my phone.
I'm interested because i'm running on ARHD 3.1.6 with Beats and i want to use the stock music app. I certainly don't want to copy all my music on the sd card once more assuming the Google music app has already done that.
Or one way around, is it possible to use the Beats enhancement in the Google music app?
Thanks in advance

Google music doesn't store anything on your sd card that's the beauty of the program which is why it requires its own music player which acts like YouTube and streams your music. Unfortunately beats is not able to be accessed through a msound enhancer altho I believe that if you set beats on your music app then switch to google music the enhancement remains.

It does save to the SD card
SD/Android/data/com.google.Android.music/
In here you will find a "cache" folder and a "music" folder (music folder is created when you save music for off line use)
Thanks

Thanks, found it. Unfortunatly in that folder the files don't have their original names like "asd fgh - xyz.mp3" , theire stored as file1, file2, file3 etc..
Anyway now i just need a way to make the HTC Music app find them and play them.
Edit: There is a .nomedia file in that folder. Deleted and now i can play them in HTC Music app
nice im bout to do that

Hmm, doesn't seem to have any effect for me - I removed the .nomedia file and opened the music player, waited for it finish scanning my SD card, and the Google music cached songs don't appear. I can tap on the song in ASTRO and play it, but it's impossible to know what's what based upon file names. Wondering if maybe Google Music is stripping all tags from the music files and maintaining those tags independently so you're hooked into their player?

Also selecting the HTC music app to play through file manager still doesn't allow you to set beats audio. I had no luck the say as you Brett

I have been trying to get some music on my one s with liquid smooth. I originally put an album on my phone in flac. I loaded it at /sdcard/music/[artist]/[album]/[track#]-[song].flac. I've been trying three different apps, play music, stock music app, and winamp. The files would not show up in any of the apps but I did noticed if I browsed to the files with root explorer and "open with" winamp that they would play within that app but the app showed no recognition of the file other than being able to play and pause it.
Next I decided to convert some albums to ogg and put them on my phone. Still have the same issue as with flac, but notice that all three apps would play them if I opened it through root explorer.
Can anyone tell me what is going on here? Obviously there is support for the file types as I could get them to play, but why will they not show up within the apps?
Btw, my initial goal was to get music to play in zombies, run! Which uses an external music app to play music from what I understand.

You have to clear then data on your media storage which can be found in apps. Open settings/app and find media storage.. It will have an android icon.
Clear the data and cache and reset your phone. This should work. Let me know if it doesn't

Try the APP "rescan SD" or sth like this.

do what the guy above said
and check your sd card for ".nomedia" file in your music folders
Took a while before I had a change to try your suggestion, but it worked, thank you! Downloaded "rescan media" and rebooted and now I see the files
