I didn't notice any settings in my newly purchased Infuse that would allow this so I wanted to check, is there an add-on app or setting I'm missed that will allow the screen to stay on while the music player is playing?
this is an option that i don't believe the default player has. there are several media players in the market that have this option. i use PowerAmp, best player in my opinion
Thanks any thoughts on what is considered the most feature rich player?

people seem to like doubletwist because it integrates with itunes i believe. but as far as features, i believe poweramp is head and shoulders above the rest. it autoplays on headphone insertion/bluetooth connection. it has its own lockscreen controls. it crossfades between songs and kills the silence at the beginning and end of tracks, making for a professional dj sounding club mix. the only shortcoming is, it doesn't directly handle m3u files, but this will be fixed in the next release.
Much appreciated.

Rockbox is the most feature rich, not on the market though. You'll have to hunt for the apk.

You can do this using tasker.
I was browsing apps the other day and saw Tasker... it seemed a bit daunting so I didn't look in to it closer... (as an aside I'm probably going to stay with the default music player as I like its integration and swiping capabilities), but it looks like I can use tasker to replicate a feature I did like from poweramp (launch automatically when headset is plugged in), and the keep backlight on... guess I'll give it a whirl.
Thanks again.
edit: Stumbled through setting up the task I wanted related to the music player this morning.
Worked brilliantly. Thanks!

i've tried searching but i haven't found anything satisfying...
does anyone know of a decent media player (i don't like htc's music player) that also has lockscreen controls?
i'm running dc 3.2.3, launcherpro.
any help would be great =)
might try cubed
it shows up as a small 3 in the market.
Try WidgetLocker, it let's you place any widget on the lockscreen.

I was looking for a music app that would let the power button or one of the 4 soft buttons play and pause the music.
btunes

bTunes works really well.
thanks for all the suggestions! i'm testing out widget locker right now, but btunes does look like a good player. i'm currently using zimly, how does it compare to that?
MixZing
Ceger
I use Mixzing exclusively. Every once in awhile the album art does not show. But its a great music app.
Thirded on MixZing. Overall a very good player, however you have to upgrade to use the lockscreen widget.

Forgot about having to pay for the upgrade, but well worth it. I like how it auotomatically figures music choices to like and dislike behind the scenes so that shuffle play is more likely to bring favorite tunes.

widgetlocker is awesome.
+1 for MixZing
Widgetlocker is sweet, mostly... I only had it happen on 1 out of about 10 calls today(I downloaded it last night) where it would not allow me to answer the call no matter what.
I've wanted a music player with lockscreen controls for a while. Widgetlocker makes it so every music player can have lockscreen controls.
As a follow up to this thread, let's determine the most popular music player.
Lithium the best
MediaScape not included in the list.
Thread moved to D&H Android General.
Sadly, I think the stock player is the best one yet. The volume rocker and trackball controls are a nice feature. Plus, it just looks nice having the album art as a black and white background while selecting a song.
I have tried several of the more popular players and found them to be fairly ugly and plain.
I remember reading somewhere that most media players dont even have their own audio support, they just use the default/built in audio engine of the regular player anyway...
Stock is working best and with the device controls for me right now.
Subsonic ..... It allows me to have all my music without trying to fit it on my phone

Streamfurious, as I don't really use local mp3s.
Stock music player is so primitive it cannot be the best. Maybe most popular if it's good enough for many people, but I think some other players in this poll are better.

There are many competing streaming music apps (btw Rdio opened to public today). Should make a separate poll for them.
MortPlayer
I've used MixZing, MusicMod, doubleTwist and Meridian
So the conclusion is ... inconclusive. The stock music player seems to be bad enough so that people are trying out other players, but there are no clear winner among non-stock players yet.
Default stock Sense music player is best to me.
I personally prefer RealPlayer. Currently it's in the Market in Beta stage. But it's incredibly clean looking, and easy to use. Plus, I don't have to put my music, video, or pictures in set locations on the SDCard. I can put everything where I want without loss of speed.
I like the stock player on my Captivate.. but for me it lacks lockscreen control and scrobbling. I have been trying other free ones that fit my needs, and may settle on 3 (cubed) for awhile.
(From my Captivate via XDA app)
Id personaly love to see winamp, been using it for years and think its great.
HTC Stock because I don't really listen to mp3s on the phone (ipod), Retro Radio for streams
Just wondering what the best mp3 and flac player for android is. Preferably free.
PowerAmp hands down. Plays mp3 and flac better than freaking VLC/Audacity (maybe) on the computer.

Best Mp3
1. Double-twist will allow you to upload and sync with you android phone/tablet and is a great music manger/player with a great ui and look
2. Winamp is great and one of best in that it is extremely easy to understand and use, just dump the music files in a folder on your sd card and it will find them.
there are tons of music apps out there try them and see what works for you!!!!

I agree with frub3nz, it's by far the best, even better than WinAMP. Only two bad things about it, it is a little quieter compared to WinAMP, and it only lasts 15 days as a trial version. Other than that though it's awesome.
Poweramp. It's worth it

Poweramp! It plays FLAC!! Can't go wrong.
is there any other mp3 players other than poweramp that show lyrics?

MIUI music player!
power amp cost me the best 3euros i've ever spent, it's just a fantastic player.
I really like PlayerPro. It has a much cleaner UI with the same features as PowerAmp, including the equalizer, lyrics, album art, etc. and it's only 5 bucks.
Sent from my MIUI SCH-i500
Another vote for PowerAMP. If you take the time to set up the equalizer and pre-amp correctly, you won't believe the sound quality. Worth spending money on.
Nothing can touch Poweramp. Best on android.

I've been using Songbird... its not the greatest, but the scrubber works while WinAmps doesn't. If you want something that just plays music, it works. Next week I may be using another music app though, I go through them often. Haha
I've yet to find any music app that matches iOS though, sadly. Android really lacks in audiobook and podcast support.
I don't need any of the other bulks apps give, like sync. I've put all of that on Amazon now, so why do I need a sync program anymore?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
PowerAmp by a mile IMHO and it's excellent through Bluetooth stereo.
Another Vote for Poweramp...hands down the best music app for android
I've been using instinctiv, simple ui, detects music on sd card and fast.

Mortplayer is excellent and allows to play folders (nice for those who hate tags and arrange their albums in folders). It also displays lyrics through an add-on.
It is free and it is an excellent application. (I had it since windows mobile!)
Will miui music app work on oxygen rom on htc desire ?
poweramp....duh?
like many others my upvote is for poweramp just bought it today really is the best
I like PlayerPro... has a lot of functionality including an excellent EQ and personally I prefer the look and feel of it compared to poweramp..

Hi All,
Apologies if I'm reinventing the wheel here, but I'm looking for a good solid music player app for the Note, as the bundled music hub doesn't cut the mustard with me.
Any ideas? What are you guys using?
Thanks in advance.

Neutron! The GUI is a bit odd but the sound is excellent. Renders the music in 32 bit.

this is the one i have been using for almost 2 years now, its perfect! give it a try...
What about battery usage of the app you post?
The stock music player is very efficient when using FM kernel. While biking for 2 hours and listening a mp3 it loses just 6%.
Is one of those apps have music controls in the pulled down notification menu??
I used to have playerpro but it doesn't have those controls, only stock player has them but then the stock player dosen't have a widget!!
Any ideas would be great

PowerAmp all the way
I use PowerAmp... awesome sound quality!
Have used WinAmp, but sound quality is pretty basic, although it is good otherwise.
PowerAmp doesn't have player controls in the taskbar, but it does have a decent widget. Also, had problems when upgrading to the full version where it corrupted the sd card within Android and had to rebuild it in windows before android would recognise it again. To prevent this found that uninstalling the widget and disabling auto-scan folders before installing the full key helped. No problems since.
Guess the other thing to mention is file transfer. I'm not really fussed on built in file transfer as I just copy and paste my folders to the sd card syncing the phone as an external drive. PowerAmp doesn't have any built in file transfer that I'm aware of, whereas WinAmp has wireless transfer which is supposed to be good.
It's all about music quality for me though and PowerAmp wins by a loong long way in that department.
Happy hunting, hope it helps
Try 3 it has a very cool interface

Ubermusic is quite good I think
Cloudskipper, hands down
Another vote for poweramp. It's not free, but it's far and away the best - in my opinion of course.
Poweramp - i've tried all others, but poweramp is just full of pure awesomeness
Google music player is by far the best player. Stream all your tracks without taking up space on your memorycard

Simple,
Powerapp all the way.
I use my phone alot for music(Who doesn't) and have gone through nearly every music player trying to find the best one.
Tried all the free, Then tried all the paid for ones, The best by far is poweramp, Simply because it handles the music so perfectly and the sound quality is superb.
Trust me when i say, You won't regret buying it, Plus you can try out the free version before hand.
Agree with the PowerAmp people. It's just the best!

Player Pro is the best.
I use PowerAmp on the Note and MediaMonkey on the PC to convert my CDs to FLAC, which PowerAmp can read. So I get lossless CD quality on it.
Music player on my phone is making music fade in and fade out. I tod this is song but i got this on all others. So question is: what music player are you using and whay?

I have tried them all well not exactly but most the ones people recommend, none the less I had problems with the stock one doing the same thing. Sometimes it would play a song then sometimes it would just be silent, any way I tried the playerpro trial version same as full version just only last 5 days. any way it and dsp pack for it has proved to be the best so far plays anything, and had allot of sound adjustment. No I don't work for them lol just my 2 cents

PowerAmp continues to be my favorite. Though it seems like there's a bug related to scanning each time the app is launched that was causing me some issue. Disabled that option and everythings good.
I use playerpro, like the features, get missing album covers, no issues. The widget is awesome, try it, it is free. The app is well supported.

I have this exact problem. It isn't quite clipping but whenever there is a crescendo it only ramps up partway and then gets mushy as though there is a normalizer running. The consistency with which it does this has me thinking as though each frame in the MP3 is being decoded at a different level!
