This feature will add up to wanting me buy sensation, aside from dust proof, and touch responsiveness issues (hope its software related not grounding stuff):
knowing that LED indicator is behind earpiece grill, can someone describe the visibility:
* looking straight on the phone?
* looking at 45 angle at 2 meter distance from different sides of the phone?
Straight at the phone u can see it, at 45, a half of the flash? Well, it's okay...

It's noticeable to me! That was a feature which is missing on the G2x that drove me crazy every "smartphone" should have a notification light!
Thanks a lot, LED visibility should be no issue now for me.
I will keep an eye on dust entering beneath the screen and swipe not responsive issue..
I wonder if dust already there since phone was bought or dust can enter..?
The latter is worst, it is a screen sealed issue..

There is no dust under my screen. There is no way that dust can enter screen after purchase so those who have dust under screen must of bought a bad phone.

I'm having very strange issues with my screen and would like to know if other people are experiencing the same with their Sensation.
When I press with 2 fingers slightly harder then I would normally touch on the screen, it looks like the screen consist of multiple 'layers' which stick together. When releasing my fingers it also sounds like a sticker is being peeled of a surface.
Next to this all I find the actual phone part fitting very loose in its "backcover".
Unfortunately HTC is close today and tomorrow, but as soon as I have been in contact with them I'll post an update.
Pretty sure that's the screen separated from the glass that people are talking about. It's the reason dust can get in there too from what I've read.
Yep, I've got it too. Getting my phone replaced.

The pressure thing or the loose fit?
Both, it seems.

The screen issue is just the way its built, it happens on all of the Sensation's.

I don't think HTC intended to build the screen with a defect. The same issue happened with the Nexus One with the bottom two corners of the touchscreen layer not sticking properly which resulted in dust getting in between the touchscreen and the amoled display.
What I mean is that it isn't a defect, that is just how its made.

Why would a screen be made to make noises when you press it hard?
No wonder why when I was playing with a Mytouch 4G demo the screen would press down like a resistive touchscreen. The layers in the screen is probably the reason for the dust entering, so expect similar dust issues like the Mytouch 4G.

It doesn't cause any problems and you have to really press hard to notice it, much harder than you ever normally would.
I imagine it has something to do with the contoured glass design, or it's a side effect of the manufacturing process.

As i said before, this sounds like a manufacturing defect similar to the Nexus One. There was a big debacle on the Google N1 forums with the initial batch of the phone due to the dust issues because the screen did not stick properly.
I would expect the similar issues with dust to appear on the Sensation which is really a shame. The N1 is now almost two years old and HTC has not learned on their mistakes yet?!
Well, no dust is under my screen as of yet and I can't see any reason that this would cause a problem. We'll see if more people have it.
I can't imagine HTC using such a bad screen design :S
I would assume off hand it is a defect.

Well the screen isn't designed to ever be pressed that hard. I can only replicate this is the middle of my screen, and I have to press uncomfortably hard for it to do it.
But what about the loose fit of the back cover? You guys feel the same? HTC is going to pickup my phone tomorrow and hopefully they won't ignore my complaints.
yes I have the loose back cover too. Has like a gap when pressed? Trying to get a exchange from Walmart but no more in stock.
I am waiting for mine to come in tomorrow, got it with overnight shipping from T-Mobile, but dickheads sent it out via UPS Ground, so tomorrow I should get it, I have the MT4G right now, and I only have dust in the front camera, nowhere in the screeen and I've been pressing everywhere and the screen seems solid on this one.
Ughhh, I really don't want to get a new phone and go through shipping in and out, if I get dust in the one I'm getting tomororw *knock on wood*
Hey guys,
Today I noticed a very weird looking spot right above the "htc" logo on my TMO Sensation. It seems like there is some fluid just beneath the surface of the screen and the spot is right at the edge of the screen. I am really careful with my phone and i dont think i caused it. I didnt drop it or put any pressure on the screen. And, I always carry my phone in my bag. I really dont know what happened!! I looked at my phone in the sunlight today and it was there. I know for sure it wasnt there yesterday.
Anyone else having the same issue? What should i do?
Thanks.
PS. I will take a picture of the spot and post it when i get home.
For sure post a picture. Maybe it's the dust issue everyone is having?
I know its not the dust issue for sure. It looks like there's some kind of liquid under the screen. And its starting from the edge of the screen.
i have the same problem and i actually just sent my phone in today for repair. it looked like some circles (definitely not dust) that i can rub with my shirt and they would disappear, but only to come back 15 minutes later.
Well, i tried cleaning that area but no luck. where did you send it for repair?
I believe it is some kind of sensor, probably the light sensor for the automatic brightness or the proximity sensor. I have it as well. It's between the htc logo and the other sensor to the left of the speaker. I'm sure it's meant to be there. No need to send it in for repairs.

I hope that aint the beginning of a newton ring in youre sake.
Its a kinda oil looking spot?
For newton rings they say you applied to much presseaur on the screen wich caused it.

@Jimmah555 The spot is right above "tc" of "htc" logo. and the proximity sensor is right above it. so i dont think it's meant to be there. weird!! i am gonna goto the tmobile store tomorrow and check out the demo handset.

So if that's the proximity sensor under the glass like it shows on the pdf manual, what's the little circle thing to the left of the speaker grill? Is that light sensor?

First of all, apologies for another death grip thread.
I don't know how many XE owners we have here, but I'd like to hear their views on the quality of the Sensation XE. Does the phone suffers with the same glitches that the standard Sensations sometimes have? I'm suspecting that it may well do as it's the same beast under the skin, but on the other hand, perhaps production standards have improved?
Wifi death grip
Dust under screen
Im woundering too. As I really want to buy a sensation but afraid to get some of those defects.

Now I tested more harshly to see if that is ever true..held it in all angles. This is my personally made Video

Now what do u say Guy? Is that a serious issue? I held the mobile in both Palms as tight as I could and even in landscape i held it like this... A slight signal drop every phone would do.. So where is the Death Grip that GSMARENA video shows that completely shuts down Wifi??
I have tried the same on Sensation XE and there is no WiFi death grip as well..
secondly, my mobile has fallen off my hands several times and its paint chipping off all corners due to that. even one side, the aluminum cover and the metal surrounding the display got dented and I have pulled off battery cover hundreds of times but NEVER has it got dust under the screen..
All issues are just exaggerated by reviewers..
the only downside is low battery life when you are issuing it. the display sucks too much battery life...in standby mode it doesn't drain..
the only time i lost wifi signal was when i put it in my metal drawer... covered with palm, pillow, books and such resulted in minimal loss...
I got the XE and I tried the death grip. I lost only 1 bar and my signal did not drop out at all.
It's looking quite positive so far then, would like some more responses from you XE people if possible.
no problem on my xe too. mine is a MEA version.
I dont really care much about the death grip issue. I just want me screen to be dust proof
No issues with my XE, then again never any issues with the older Sensation my sone has either.
I now have my XE and the WiFi signal bars do show a reduced signal when I cover the antenna area with my hand, WiFi analyzer shows a much reduced signal.

First off, I have a regular Sensation, not the XE. The wifi death grip is only an issue for me if i'm not standing directly next to the router or in an adjacent room. i could care less about losing one signal bar when standing next to the router and using the phone in landscape mode. it becomes a whole other story when walking upstairs though, as i can literally slow the data that's trying to reach my phone down to a point where it takes ages to load a simple webpage just by holding it in landscape mode with both hands. as soon as i remove my left hand (in landscape mode, mind you) the loading bar flies to the finish. when i'm up here the signal varies from all bars there in portait mode, to one bar or no bars (just the dot) in landscape with my left hand touching the backcover where the wifi antenna is. At first I thought I could easily live with this issue since I have an all-out 5GB soft cap mobile data plan and the death grip does not affect mobile reception but the mobile signal here drastically decreased in quality over the last few months (no idea why) so I'm stuck with the spotty wifi performance of my Sensation. I guess you could say i'm seriously p***** off. Even more so when people say that the death grip issue isn't real or that we're all just exaggerating wildly. I'm not even sure if it's really just a small percentage of the produced units having this issue or if the users that say they haven't experienced it are just sitting too close to their routers to see the signal degrade far enough.

Dust
Can confirm the dust issue still exists with the XE.
Went to Carphonewarehouse last week to buy one, none in stock so ordered one to pick up. Picked it up on Tuesday, took it home. About to fit screen protector so was wiping specks of dust off with lint free cloth, noticed 3 specs of dust under the screen. Took the back off and noticed quite a lot of dust around the earpiece/camera area. Boxed it all up and returned it to shop. They ordered another one, which I went to pick up on Thursday, guess what? Same problem with dust. This is getting crazy now, worst thing is I'm unable to ask for a refund as it isn't in their returns policy. May have to insist on refund as it's sim free version, so lots of money!
I ordered mine from CPW too, I'll keep an eye out for the dust. Let me know how you get on.

Can you confirm exactly what the dust issue was? I mean is it the same as the original Sensations...a comet-like plume on one or both sides of the unit under the glass? Or something else?

yes i have. doesn't change a thing, though. enabled or not - wifi performance is seriously lacking (if not non-existant) in landscape mode.
I sold my Sensation XE yesterday as long as dust appeared under screen.
It is very frustrating to sold my phone after 45 days from buying it.
I am planning now to buy the new HTC one X but still thinking as it comes with no SD slot and non removable battery.
Is HTC going forward or backward?
Had my XE for 4 and a half months. I have no dust under my screen. The wifi drops one bar of I cup the antenna tightly. I never really put my hand their so it's no issue for me.

Hi guys, this thread is for all users that have dust underneath screen problem with Sensations.
We all know that our Sensation's screen is made by Sharp or AUO. In addition, it is obvious that dust problem is real.
I just bought the phone and I really want to find out is there a connection between panel type and dust problem (so we can avoid it if possible).
Since the threads above contain a lot of uncategorised data, I decided to open new thread with a poll to get more info.
My guess that problem occurs when glue breaks and sucks in (because of vacuum) the dust captured by battery cover...
To find out which panel you have:
Use terminal emulator (free from the market) and run the command dmesg (root is not needed). It will output a lot of data.
Look for this line and report it (the numbers might not be the same): [9178.895111] Panel Type = PANEL_ID_PYD_??????
(if you can't find it, you can long press on the output in terminal emulator copy all and then paste it into an email and send it to yourself. Then do a search with "panel" as keyword).
To find out is there some dust under your screen, look closer while on max brightness or under direct light (sun, preferraby).
Thanks.
Voted. Sorry, poll does not appear from xda app. Voted from browser.

Thanks for making this poll!

I wish you would have include no dust aou, and no dust sharp options. I have a sharp and no dust, but I can't vote.
I can't edit poll, only mods can...
Although it is a good idea, i don't know if relevant data would be collected over time if 2 answers would be added (no dust - panel), eg. now you don't have any dust (and voted no), and if after 2 months you "develop" dust you could come back here and vote yes...see the issue?
Yes I see, but my phone is 5 months old, but I guess it could still happen. I just wish we knew the total number of sensation owners on xda vs. How many have dust issues.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
Well, although it is too early too tell, but judging by results so far, it may be that digitizer implementation is culprit here... :/
It would be nice to know who assembles it, panel manufacturers or HTC... ?
I'm not sure how to vote on this. Truth is I have had dust on both types of screens. 4th replacement due to dust is on its way. All 4 exchanges were due to dust entering the screen.
I have an AUO screen, and here is the picture of the dust under the screen.
i have a picture of my screen with dust available { ***.imagebam. com / image /f4941c173425172 }
All those having dusts, is it located at the same position on yours ?
I've just noticed some dust...AUO screen...
But I don't mind really since I see it only on strong outside light and only if I look really close...
I'll wait some time to see how it develops and get replacement then...
i have dust, and i have AOU screen
Going on 8 months, still no dust under my sharp panel.

I had a sharp originally that I got on launch day it had dust. Got a brand new sealed in the box AUO panel, it also got dust. It isn't the panel, its the gap around the screen between the screen and bezel. Only way to ensure you never get dust is the silcon deal.

I just got my Sensation 4G back from HTC yesterday. I sent it in because of a pretty bad case of dust under the screen, a broken exterior physicical Volume rocker, and the fact that every call I made or received people would say they could not hear me. I had the AOU screen.
Is it possible to remove the dust thats already there? I have 2 large dustspecs on each side on the middle of the screen. Can i crack up, clean screen and reseal it?
Bothers the **** out of me. Would do the silicone if i didnt buy my phone used

AUO screen
I purchased my HTC Sen 4G from TMO less than a month ago and now have dust under my screen. I ran the terminal emulator and found my display was manufactured by AUO (FYI this information is near the top of the printout NOT the bottom or middle took me a while to find it, hope this helps someone else). This is very disappointing. I love my Sen and hate that there is a design flaw. I am concerned that it is only going to get worse with time. I will keep this phone for at least the next two years so I want it in tip top shape at the beginning so I can keep it that way. I still have my MT3G and it is in mint condition.
Freaking fantastic. I just got dust underneath my screen from both sides. Sharp screen.
Hi everyone.
Buy sensation two weeks ago.
And noticed little spot (or bubble) on screen near ambient (which is under glass) sensor.
Is there malfunction?
Looks more like it has happened due to dust or something, which is a more common issue when it comes to the Sensation..

You see there's a common problem in Sensation of dust getting under the screen..It's a manufacturing defect available in many Sensations..There are one or two such bubbles in my phone as well..but they are not that visible..So that's what I referred to by saying it may have caused due to dust..
So no worries mate!

Well, yeah there can be some bubbles underneath the middle of the screen as well..but as it's a manufacturer default we have no control over it..you can avoid the situation to an extent by using a case that covers the bezel of the phone..
and if there are lots of dust underneath the screen you can return the device and get a replacement, but that won't be an option if there are only little..
you can refer to this thread which discusses about this issue:
