Brightness constantly fluctuating with auto brightness - HTC Inspire 4G

The screen will dim and brighten every 30 seconds or so. Im not moving into different light its just doing it on its own. Is this an inspire thing it is it possibly my Rom? I'm using leedroid.

The sensor for th brightness is under the grill next to the notification led make sure your not covering it inadvertently when holding the phone also, there is a known bug with the prox sensor in the LewDriod ROM, read the LeeDroid thread for more info.

It must be the Rom cause I'm definitely not covering the sensor. I'll read the thread about my Rom though. Thank you.

Usually I recommend turning off auto brightness. 1- because it can be inconsistent, but 2- it can drain your battery if it deems you are blind.

Auto screen brightness

Is anyone else having issues with the auto screen brightness? I'm in bed now with all the lights off and my screen is at it's brightest. As far as I can remember, the screen has never gone dim for me. I have always had to do it manually.

Mine seems to work. I always thought it worked based on where the bar is set prior to the checkmark.

I use Quick Settings to adjust the brightness. The auto on this phone definitely isn't working correctly.
Mine works just fine. Dim when it's bright around me, bright when it's dark around me.

I feel like mine does change some, but it never seems like it's a really accurate change to the condition... or maybe I just think it does, hmm.

That's backwards. You want the brightness down when it's dark, because less light is needed to see the screen, and up when it's light, because more brightness is needed to see the screen.
I as well have had issues with the auto brightness. It never seems to change. I manually set it, or leverage a widget.
Mine works but it adjusts too frequently. It was annoying to see it going brighter and dimmer every minute or two so I tuned it off and use a widget.
Thanks, Robrecht

Glad to see I'm not crazy and imagining things. Very surprised at how many little quirks HTC let slip by on the thunderbolt.

I have always disliked auto-brightness. At night when I'm reading a book in bed, it is just way too bright at the lowest auto-bright setting. Though it was nice to automatically brighten up when I'm outside. Now days, I just stick an Android power control on the home screen and manage it myself. 0% for when I'm in bed reading books, 30% for normal every day use, 100% for when I'm outside. It seems to help the battery quite a bit too.
Its best to adjust it manually anyways... Just add a widget on your home screen lolz
What's best is not always whats preferred. It's little things like auto not working that make me miss my cyanogen'd droid 1

Button light problems.

Anyone have the same problem as me? Basically my capacitive button back lights tend to not always actually light up. They choose when they want to light up. I usually do a reboot and they go back to normal but an hour later they shut off and turn on whenever, rarely turn back on though.

They are turned off when the sensation is exposed to light and are on when there isnt that much light. For example, using the sensation in sunlight will keep it off while using the sensation in a dark room will leave it lit.

Yeah, I get what you mean, my G2 was like that as well.
Thing is that im in my room right now and its dark in here, besides my tv which isnt emitting much light and theyre off right now. Luckily i still know where the buttons are located and which one is which, but its annoying knowing theyre off when they should be on.

Sounds like its time to send in your phone for a replacement. I just tried on mine what you described, and my keys light up. I would get a warranty exchange

Just put your finger over the light sensor. If the capacitive lights come on, they work.
If they don't come on, they don't work.

They are 'automatic'. They come on when the phone is booted, and when the ambient light is low.
They don't STAY on when you can see them perfectly well without being lit. That would drain your battery life faster.
That's actually a good thing.
People shouldn't return a device because of a 'feature', IMHO.

Mine stay on constantly regardless of light. Not sending it for repair as it's likely software not a hardware problem.

[Q] Camera reset display brightness

Anyone have their display setting reset to max brightness after taking a picture or exit out of the camera app?
Sometimes when I take a picture with flash the phone will shutoff. When I turn it back on the brightness is at 100%.

Tasker is an app in the market
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA Premium App
I just wanted to add that it also happens when the phone comes out of a low power state. So if you have your low power profile click in at say 25%, then charge your phone above that, your brightness will be back to 100%.
I am also using tasker to set the brightness to auto-adjust every 2 minutes. Tasker is $6.95 in the market (but very useful for other things too).
Have had this happen a few times. Never knew the cause, just remember being blinded in the dark, lol

I have this same issue. Driving me crazy! Thanks for suggesting it might be the camera app. I think this is true. I'm going to try to remember if I ever open the camera to go into settings and reset Auto Brightness. Very annoying, but I do seem to think its related to the camera app.

Same here. But if i use the auto brightness i have the issue that the brightness is still at 100% when leaving the cameraapp. Not funny i a dark room or outside at night

Light sensor issue?

Tried googling it but didn't find anything exactly like this.
Basically when I have auto brightness there are times when i won't move my phone whatsoever or any lighting around it and the brightness go from dim to bright couple secs back to dim and so on for no reason.
Could it be a faulty sensor or firmware related?
I had stock and few custom roms and its happening on all of them.
Idk if I should send to htc for repkacemt or are any you experiencing same thing and expect this to be fixed with update?
It's so annoying and although I could put a constant screen brightness I don't want to.
Thanks in advanced !!

Then again if it gets brigght it dies adjust accordingly and otherway around its just it never stops and imagine reading even this forum at night on phone and every eight seconds gets brighter and eight seconds later gets dim and so on.
It's so annoying I think I'm gonna send my phone in

[Q] Screen not turning on during calls!

Hello everyone,
So i bought a one X a couple months ago and it already came with a custom rom, i removed that and installed the Team Viper rom and currently have the latest version installed (April 10). The phone screen will not turn on during a call if you move the phone away from your ear like it should, the only way to get it to turn on is by pressing the power button and even then it only stays on for a few seconds and then turns right back off. Im not sure if this worked before i installed Viper. Any suggestions guys?

Do you have a case? Try placing a call and use your finger to left of the AT&T logo. I don't know much about viper but could be a setting (usually accessibility) that does that.

also is there a screen timeout? and im sure android has a feature where you can hang up using power button...again i am not sure about viper, but if you go to settings > accessbility > and make sure certain things are not checked, that can help...if that doest work, then your proximity sensor could not be working...does your auto brightness adjust accordingly?

There is no security lock for the homescreen, the auto brightness also works perfectly. I cant find anything in accessibility the only thing checked off is auto rotate screen. I think it may be the proximity sensor then because the digitizer on the phone looks like it was replaced.
The only other thing that I can think of is a screen protector that is blocking it or it has smudges that need to be cleaned. They have apps that calibrate proximity sensors but I have never used them.

I seen those up here. Search the forums or play store. Is the auto brightness using the same sensor or is it two? Tried looking, but can't tell.
Sent from my Carbon-ize Evita using xda-developers app
I believe it is two. If both auto brightness and proximity were running off the same sensor, they would both act up. I think. Just a theory. But if it is one sensor then the calibration app should work.
