iv read the how to guide, it was very helpfull, however when i put my clockwork file to my sd and name it update.zip, and try to re install packages at the recovery menu i get this error:
E: failed to verify whole-files signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted
iv read that once i get to clockwork i can turn signatures off.. is there a way to do that with the recovery menu? thanks alot
You gotta search for the process on changing that sig requirement. I just did my first flash too. Its not hard @ all. After you change that file out, clockwork will work. Good luck. Im on my phone, but ill try to look for the quote on what to do for that sig stuff for you.

Search for "[recovery] 3e recovery modded w/ no verification" to download the file and these are the exact steps I followed: good luck.

@davidis57: i had the same problem as you did... but i just followed existz's instructions and got it to work
delete the update.zip in the sdcard root
delete the recovery in system/bin
paste the new recovery in system/bin
open rom manager and reinstall clockwork (even if it says it's already installed)
select 'reboot into recover', and it will take you to 3e recovery
select reinstall packages - this will take you to clockwork
big thanks to existz. works on rogers captivate on stock froyo.

I am new to the Infuse (just bought today) Is there a backup utility like ClockWork Mod for the Infuse? I have a Sony Xperia X10 as well. I have xRecovery on that phone. What do you all use to backup your Infuse? Is it the 3e that I saw in another thread?
Yes. Read, read, read.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA Premium App
The Infuse has ClockworkMod.
ok, thanks guys. Bear with me. I am coming from the SE X10. Things are named different for each phone. With my SE I reboot and hit the back button as soon as the SE logo shows up. Is this how you get into recovery for the Infuse as well?
If you install one of the ROMs here, hold the power button and then click Recovery in the menu. It will bring you straight to CWM.
So hold the power button and hit the recovery file while in root explorer? unsure what you mean. Sorry not a neewbie to this type stuff, just this phone, lol
Have you installed one of the custom ROMs yet? Infused, Bionix, or Refuse? You need those for it to work. You can get to CWM without them, but it is easier with them.
If you have install it, then just hold the power button on your phone. A menu will pop up and you can just click on Recovery. You don't need to be in root explorer, but you can. it doesn't matter where you are when you hold the power button.
If you haven't installed a custom ROM, then that's a different story.

Since you just got your phone I would use this method, then after you do that install "Rom manager" from market. Open it select-flash clockworkmod-i9000 and bam brings you into recovery. Then anytime after that you want to get into recovery go into Rom Manager and select "reboot into recovery". After that if you flash any of the roms in the section, when the phones on and you hold the power button a menu with options will pop up and one of them you can select is "recovery" which will also reboot you into clockwork recovery. Feel free you pm me with any other questions you have, I'm more then willing to help you out with any questions you might have.
Ok, so I stumbled on the correct thread I beleive. This is different than my SE phone, but Im getting it now. I got Rom Manager and it looks like I have the Recovery Mod. I want to make a backup before I do anything else. Thanks for the help!
Ok, new question. I am in rom manager and it says "backup current rom", it boots into recovery and does a few things, but then there is no Backup option? When I reboot there is no backup in the "manage backups"
Is there any way to go straight to cwm recovery while the phone is off? I saw a thread saying to hold volume up and down and power but it takes me to 3e recovery instead (i have infused 1.5.2). But I do have cwm recovery and I'm able to get there with rom manager.I'm asking this cuz in case I do something wrong, and the phone doesn't boot properly, I'd be able to restore from cwm

So is there a guide written out anywhere for the proper way to backup an restore stock or custom roms somewhere? So far this is different than the recovery i am used to using. Right now all i want to do is create a backup. There was no "backup and restore" option when it rebooted to recovery mode.

In that case, you'll need a modified 3e file in order to get CWM up and running instead of Samsung recovery: Modified 3e Tutorial
I tried the modified 3 e file. I renamed it and and copied it to the root of the sd card.. Reboot into recovery and selected reinstalled packages once.. It gave me the error of saying the file does not exist on mnt/internal_sd card selected reinstall packages and same error. No luck here been trying it for days. Thnx for the reply.

Find and follow the ultimate unbrick instructions. It'll get you rooted and have cwm.

are you using Rom manager to get CWM
if so, i have noticed that i have the same problem unless i do everything twice, including the install CWM portion.
i have install CWM 2 times, the reboot into recovery and install packages 2 times to get to the CWM Recovery.
otherwise yes i would say just flash the Ultimate Unbrick and get into it that way.
I did use ultimate unbrick.. supposedly to go back to stock. Some file from serendipity infused rom are still on my phones, cant get rid of it. And now the base is uckd5.. what dies that mean. I did partition when doing ultimate unbrick.. and do I have to root again? Confused here. Thanks for the reply.

.......infuse.....Infused....infusion.........
You forgot to adjust the permissions of your new recovery file.
then dont use the Ultimate Unbrick, use another back to stock method. i use gtg's other Md5sum with odin to flash back to stock after i use the Ultimate unbrick because the ultimate unbrick does not allow unsigned packages, so i run the Ultimate then i Run his other Back to stock to get past the unsigned error and Flash the Update.Zip that Rom manager makes to get into CWM......
after that i just WIPE and FLASH like crazy........lol
if i get hung up i just rinse and re-use.

you just go to install zip from SD card, then select choose zip (maybe those are in reverse order - i'm not in recovery right now, so this is just from memory, but you should get the gist), then find where you saved the serendipity zip on your SD card, select it, go to yes... and that should be it, assuming you are coming from stock froyo.
I went to install zip from sd card but I dont see the S7 zip file. I did copy it to the root of the sd card cuz when I reboot back to system I see that its there but not when I try to install it from sd card in cwm. Hmmm anyone.. Help.

I'm not sure what you mean by this. Are you just trying to get it into recovery? If so, do you have the Android software developer kit (SDK) installed? The SDK includes the adb binary. Download it, install it, then open a command prompt, cd to the 'platform-tools' directory where the SDK installed, insure your phone is on & plugged in via USB, and issues the command: adb reboot recovery.
If I'm off-base with what you're trying to accomplish, my apologies.

Don't use a KFx rom, the KF1 and KF2 versions of Gingerbread were really buggy and will give you more trouble than they're worth. You're better off flashing Octane, Valhalla or ICBINB which get updated frequently.

Which also means that you need to flash a KG4 leak or newer for the proper GB bootloaders. If not, you'll get a rainbow screen.
Similar Problem
Hey Guys,
I had a similar problem. I am using Fire Expert to overwrite the new recovery to the \system\bin folder. However, I realized my mistake was that I did not mount as r/w. After I did that though and I held the volume up, down and power, I stay stuck at the initial splash screen and can't go into the stock recovery screen. I can't boot regularly either; I have to Odin recover. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Overwriting the old recovery and putting the update.zip file on the sdcard for CWM Final was for Froyo ROMs only, not Gingerbread (GB) ones. What ROM are you currently on?
In order to get into recovery since flashing the GB boot loaders I have to:
Power off the phone
Hold down Volume Up, Volume Down, and the Power button
When the Galaxy S screen comes on, wait a second, it'll get a tad bit brighter. When that happens let go of only the Power button
Wait a few seconds and you should be in recovery
Sounds like you might be a bit goofed at this point, though. If you were on GB before I'd suggest using one of the ROMs in bhundven's The KJ6 Heimdall One-Click Collection. The last one in the list will also give you root, CWM, and voodoo lagfix.

Weird. All you should have to do is put the updated recovery in /system/bin & put the update.zip on the root of the sdcard.
What is the current state of the phone? I know in the previous post you said you would have to use ODIN to recover. Did you do that?
Yes I did use Odin to recover. I did it following the link provided in the sgs4g 10 commandments. This is the second time I recovered. After I recovered he first time, I tried the process again and the same thing happened: stuck at the initial splash screen.

I've not used it but if it allows you to mount /system read/write, then it should work fine as long as you're putting the 'recovery' file in /system/bin & the update.zip on the root of the sdcard.
If you try it again then reboot into recovery, what happens?

Try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21272961
I tried searching, but the search is down?
I have spent several hours looking.
I used odin (phone went into download mode without issue) to put my phone back to stock so I could get the ota update.
Went back into download mode with Odin to install CWM, this "passed" and after a restart my phone went into samsung recovery, not CWM.
Now my phone will not go into download mode? I tried different cable, ports, etc.
any help?
so what is it doing since it's not going into download mode.
it wouldn't do anything, I finally reinstalled the drivers and after holding down the power and volume - let go... nothing! push the volume - twice and it went into download mode. Odin recognizes it and goes through the motion, but the phone has a AX_timeout in red at the top left corner of the screen?
Odin continues and say's passed, but when I try to reboot into CWM it hangs on the samsung logo.
It will not boot into recovery, but it will start the phone and everything seems to work.
im using odin 1.83 / windows 7 64bit.
Remove the battery, put the phone in download mode, put the battery back in, and flash CWM. Before you fully boot the OS, flash a custom kernel. If you don't flash a custom kernel, the default kernel will overwrite CWM with the default recovery.

If you happen to flash a ROM that doesn't include the script that the kernel calls for the overwrite, then you could have ended up with CWM on a stock kernel.

There is. You can download the Superuser CWM to your phone, flash CWM, boot immediately to CWM (don't let it boot normally), flash Superuser, and reboot.
At that point, if you desire, you can delete /system/etc/install-recovery.sh and reflash CWM if you want to keep it.
