ClockWorkMod? - Samsung Infuse 4G

I am new to the Infuse (just bought today) Is there a backup utility like ClockWork Mod for the Infuse? I have a Sony Xperia X10 as well. I have xRecovery on that phone. What do you all use to backup your Infuse? Is it the 3e that I saw in another thread?

Yes. Read, read, read.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA Premium App

The Infuse has ClockworkMod.

ok, thanks guys. Bear with me. I am coming from the SE X10. Things are named different for each phone. With my SE I reboot and hit the back button as soon as the SE logo shows up. Is this how you get into recovery for the Infuse as well?

If you install one of the ROMs here, hold the power button and then click Recovery in the menu. It will bring you straight to CWM.

So hold the power button and hit the recovery file while in root explorer? unsure what you mean. Sorry not a neewbie to this type stuff, just this phone, lol

Have you installed one of the custom ROMs yet? Infused, Bionix, or Refuse? You need those for it to work. You can get to CWM without them, but it is easier with them.
If you have install it, then just hold the power button on your phone. A menu will pop up and you can just click on Recovery. You don't need to be in root explorer, but you can. it doesn't matter where you are when you hold the power button.
If you haven't installed a custom ROM, then that's a different story.

Since you just got your phone I would use this method, then after you do that install "Rom manager" from market. Open it select-flash clockworkmod-i9000 and bam brings you into recovery. Then anytime after that you want to get into recovery go into Rom Manager and select "reboot into recovery". After that if you flash any of the roms in the section, when the phones on and you hold the power button a menu with options will pop up and one of them you can select is "recovery" which will also reboot you into clockwork recovery. Feel free you pm me with any other questions you have, I'm more then willing to help you out with any questions you might have.

Ok, so I stumbled on the correct thread I beleive. This is different than my SE phone, but Im getting it now. I got Rom Manager and it looks like I have the Recovery Mod. I want to make a backup before I do anything else. Thanks for the help!
Ok, new question. I am in rom manager and it says "backup current rom", it boots into recovery and does a few things, but then there is no Backup option? When I reboot there is no backup in the "manage backups"

Is there any way to go straight to cwm recovery while the phone is off? I saw a thread saying to hold volume up and down and power but it takes me to 3e recovery instead (i have infused 1.5.2). But I do have cwm recovery and I'm able to get there with rom manager.I'm asking this cuz in case I do something wrong, and the phone doesn't boot properly, I'd be able to restore from cwm

Do you have the mod 3e recovery?

the official thread for CWM can be found HERE
read first, then post.

So is there a guide written out anywhere for the proper way to backup an restore stock or custom roms somewhere? So far this is different than the recovery i am used to using. Right now all i want to do is create a backup. There was no "backup and restore" option when it rebooted to recovery mode.

woohoo! got it! Had the update.zip in the wrong place. I was getting to the pre-liminary screen that had blue writing. I hit reinstall package and now I got into the recovery area with the green writing. Now I have the backup and restore features etc! Sweet, thanks for the help!

[Q] ClockworkMod ROM Manager won't back up.

Hey, sorry if this is a really noob question, but I couldn't find an answer elsewhere.
Anyway, I have Rom Manager installed, my phone is rooted, I have granted SU permissions, and I've tried flashing all current and past versions of the recovery image, but when I press "Backup Current ROM" all it does is reboot my phone. No backup is made and no error pops up, just a simple reboot. Likewise if I select "Reboot into Recovery".
Anyone know how I can fix this? Thanks
Btw, I'm on a DroidX if that affects anything.

Try flashing an alternate recovery or manually boot into recovery - I'm not sure the method for your phone, though. I don't like cwm, too many issues. I use Amon Ra for my Evo, I think the Droid X has SPRecovery. You should be able to flash it through ROM Manager.

[Q] CWM not working?

Ok, I am a noob in the GS4G scene (Veteran in the HTC side of the house), but I have successfully downloaded ROM Manager and flashed Clockwork Recovery. When I try to back up my current ROM, it takes me back to the Galaxy S 4G factory recovery (Blue Letters). When I click on the Reboot into Recovery in Rom Manager, it does the same. Even when I try to manually enter Clockwork (holding power button and vol key down), takes me to the same recovery.
Maybe I am missing something, but I cant seem to figure it out. I have tried flashing CWM several times thinking that it was not sticking, but nothing.
Anyone has an insight in this? Thank you in advance for your help.
BTW, I have the GS4G rooted via SuperOneClick method.

[Q] how to backup entire rom using rom manager

Installed rom manager, also installed clockworkrecovery, now i scrolled down on rom manager to backup my entire rom and it rebooted into recovery mode.
But i dont see menu option there to start backup
I only see following 5 options and obviously none of them seem to be applicable to what I am trying to do. Can someone help? Thx
"Android system recovery <3e>
Samsung recovery utils
- for BML -
Enter: POWER Key, Select: Vol UP / Vol Down
reboot system now
reinstall packages
delete all user data
delete cahce data
format internal sd-card"
Well as it states, that is Android recovery system not clockwork recovery.

zokay how to get into clockrecovery in order to backup my whole rom?? what did i miss her?? please provide solution not just explanation thx
Well its been a while for me. I know everyone doesnt like rom manager but hey whatever. Just flash clockworkmod recovery. Then choose reboot into recovery. Or use odin and flash a kernel with CWM baked into it.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
oh please tell me what are the steps involved in flashing CWD recovery. I am total noob here.
Umm open rom manager and it says "flash clockworkmod recovery" so do that.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
okay, i think where the problem is. nothing happened after choosing "flash clockwormod recovery" it just says "successfully downloaded clock recovery", phone is idle afterward. something wrong? I got newer fixed model of samsung captivate at&t with froyo.
I already did couple of tries, however, first time I did, I initially chose Samsung Captivate (MTD), but there was a warning message that said "clockworkmod is not availbla for this blah blah blah" but i went ahead and hit yes it downloaded it anyways. since then it now says current recovery: clockworkmod 2.5.1.2. Phone is definitely going to android recovery.
thanks,
Okay found following trick:
Installation instructions:
1. Download ROM Manager from the Market.
2. Flash Recovery.
3. Choose Captivate as your phone.
4. Accept the Superuser prompt.
5. Use ROM Manager to create a Backup.
6. On the very FIRST boot of Clockwork, you may need to manually select "reinstall packages" if Clockwork does not start. You should only ever have to do this once. It will be automatic from then on.
7. Watch the backup go!
I had to choose "reinstall packages" after choosing backup current rom. However, if I choose that option it says "E:failed to verify whole-file signature, E:signature verificaiton failed. Installation aborted." Thanks,

are you expecting to just boot into download mode and then fixes itself?
download mode is for, oddly enough, DOWNLOADING firmware onto the phone. you need to use a program such as odin or heimdall....
this phone is over a year old, every thing you are trying to do has been covered in about 1,000,000,000 threads at this point in the devices lifespan, SEARCH, READ, READ, READ.
Got it! Started odin3 first and put it into download mode. Now it flashed Eclair into my phone. I wonder if GPS fix was in the phone hardware or in the software?
Oh god.

Can you get back into recovery? (hold vol up vol down and press power) I assume you have cwm recovery? It's red and will say cwm recovery at the top.
If so hit up the dev section and find one of our many awesome custom roms id suggest start with valhalla final by whitehawkx. Download it on your computer.
Now go to "mounts" inside your cwm recovery and select mount usb.
Connect your phone to the computer with your usb, it'll open like usual on your comp.
Put the downloaded zip on your sd.

What might get you into recovery is by trying:
shutting the phone down (you might have to remove the battery). Hold down volume up, volume down, & the power button. keep holding them down until you see the "Galaxy S" screen. When that screen gets a bit brighter only let go of the power button. Keep holding the volume buttons down until you see the recovery screen.

Rooting Questions

I'm considering rooting my G2x. I've downloaded Super One Click v2.3.3 and have installed the t-mobile driver.
So, I simply need to plug my phone into my computer and open SOC and click 'Root"???
What can I expect after rooting, if it works? Will I need to install a rom? Which I believe is more-or-less an operating system? If so, where do I get one?
Will there anything left on the phone?
If I need, say, an app for my contacts how will I install it on the phone?
Any help will be appreciated. I've never done this before.
James
You can gain access to apps that need root you can flash ROMs which the best thing and after you root your device if you didnt do a full wipe (factory reset) everything should be the same. but here is a tip back up your currwnt ROM because youll need it in case you want to get baxk to stock ROM or if a ROM you flashed didnt wprk

I don't quite understand. I thought rooting removes most things form your phone.
What is the flash rom? And how do I back up my current rom?
I've rooted the phone, I believe. I have a new app called 'Super User'. When I tab 'Super User' it only lists 'ROM Manager' which I installed. But now I'm totally lost. What would be my next step? I don't seem to have any more permissions to do anything than I did before.
James
Flashing ROM is like changing the OS version you do it after you install a Custom recovery like ClockWork Mod (CWM) you can install it using ROM Manager by clicking on flash recovery
You access the recovery menu by turning off your device then holding down the power/lock key for like 10 second untill you get two icons thr download and recovery you choose the recovery and navigate through the recovery menus using the volume up and down buttons and the power key to click on an option.
For back up you get down to back up and restore then click the power/lock to open it then choose back up and click on it now wait till the back up is done of you want to restore it click on restore instead of back up

Not sure what happened.
In ROM manager I chose boot to recovery or whatever that is. Now it seems to be stuck on the Android system recovery utility. I'm able to move the selection at the top betweene:
'reboot system now'
'apply sdcard:update.zip'
'wipe date/factory reset' and
'wipe cache partition'
Nothing happens when I'm on reboot system now and press the Power/Lock button .
Also on the screen:
'Finding update package...'
'Opening update package...'
'E:Can't open /cache/updatye.zip (bad)'
'Installation aborted.'
'Formatting MISC:...
It's been like this for the past 5 minutes.
Any suggestions?

Did you download a ROM that is made for your device ? And you install a ROM by going to 'install Zip from SD Card' then you navigate to the file you have your ROM in and you should do a full wipe if the ROM require to (factory reset and wipe cache partition) if you do so all the data on your device will be deleted (like apps and phone numbers....) but not if the data is on your SDCard, but again make sure the ROM is for your device example if you have i9100 SGS II download a ROM for i9100 SGS II not any other device

I finally installed a rom. I then tried to install another. Cynger, or something like that. It went through the process of installing but now when it boots it gets to LG and stops. I need to take the battteryb ou but upn putting the battery back in the same thinng happens.
It won't boot!
I tired only 2 roms and I've already bricked this thing???
then go back to recovery and restore your backed up ROM (and you have to wait for like 30 minutes sometimes for it to boot)
