OMG GPS is awesome... - General Topics

...on my sons brand new htc sensation! I had a g1 before I picked up the vibrant last July. COMPLETELY forgot how fast and accurate htc's gps is. I'm in my house and it follows me around within approximately 10 feet. The vibrant on the other hand STILL takes forever to find a sat and then I'm lucky if it's within 50 feet. No contest.
The only strong point of samsung is the "vibrant" screen. But, it kills battery life and the qhd on the sensation is sharper even if not as vibrant.
That's my review. Goodbye samsung. Then again I won't upgrade for a year, so who knows!
But, so far, HTC is my next.

Maybe I missed where this thread was relevant to this forum?

People here are a bit... addicted to their Vibrant.
A Thread like this sparks a bomb in their perfect Vibrant world.
Edit your OP and leave. Before me, and other 3 people troll you.

When is the Hercules going to be announced? I've been thinking of getting a tablet like the transformer but i already have a netbook, so the Hercules should do for its size.. Kinda like phone n tablet in one.. Lol..

Exactly! I've been trying to justify a tablet and for me it just doesn't make sense. Anything I want to do that requires a bigger screen (than 4/4+ inches) I'd also want a keyboard. So, yeah, I kinda don't get the tablet craze.

I flashed EDT with gps fix and voodoo and I get accurate locks very quickly. Everything else is working fine too, no problems at all. So while the problem is known, so is the solution.

I really think samsung screwed the gps hardware up....
Some people's wont work no matter what they do
Fortunately for me, all 3 vibrants I've had the gps has worked pretty accuarately and I get a quick lock.
UNfortunately that was not the case out of the box. Thanks to this community though, the gps works. Period.

I agree with you, though, HTC is the best brand of smartphone in the world.

@Martylk hey man screw you! Samsung is a great, quality brand. They make awesome hardware and there is nothing wrong with koreans. Maybe you should get off of htcs n**s. I have a mt4g and really like HTC but will definitely consider a Samsung or LG device. There's nothing wrong with those brands HTC also has their own sets of problems as does every brand so get off of your high horse.

HTC has the same battery performance as all other smartphones, So not sure why the op brought that up, I get right now 15 hrs ( if my daughter plays on it) and 30 hrs if i can keep her off it.

Love the phone but not enough to vote for it. Very upset with the battery issues this phone is having. So for me voting is almost like recommending it to someone. It's actually making me miss my T-Mobile g2 I had. They should of had that phone on the list.

It's kind of lame they're comparing it to a phone that won't come out for another 3-4 months. They must be webOS fanboys (though webOS is nice all around, just needs a platform to run on) but really, comparing a phone you can have now to a phone you can have sometime in the summer when it's barely spring right now?
At least they're not comparing to jesusphone 5 (which wont be out for another 7-8 months if that)
Yes, I agree, it should only be open to phones that actually exist. I'm sure there will be an HTC out in 2 years that will kick all their asses - lets put it in the bracket, too...
P.S. - It IS ugly. Looks like Salvador Dali painted a Blackberry...
Palm has a physical keyboard fetish they wont get over, but obviously they could design a phone better that has a keyboard too. The first pixie phone (horrible name though) was pretty well designed.
To be honest, that whole "bracket" is bull****.

So far, so good. I haven't rooted mine, because I really haven't felt the need yet.
I'm coming from the Sammy Vibrant, and I loved the phone.
I like this one better. Much more responsive, and it doesn't fall prey to the lag issues, the primary reason I rooted my Vibrant in the first place.
I'd say go do it. Awesome phone.

I upgraded from a D1. I kinda miss some of the control I had over that phone, but the devs had a lot time to master that device. The TB will get there as well especially since a lot of devs & themers have the phone.
I rooted mine so I could remove all the bloat (~250mb of junk). I am running the latest RUU and with a custom kernel.
I have been very happy with the Tbolt. The battery life has been better than I expected.
It's a great phone. I'd recommend it!
I love it but why not wait. You made it this far. In a month or so there will be better phones.

The only things I miss about the Fascinate is the size/weight and the gps. I get better reception with the bolt and I love being able to use data while I'm on the phone. If the boro has coverage like Hinesville, you'll welcome the better reception.
I had a fascinate too. Yea Def make the switch. Battery isn't as good, but it charges quick it about 40 times less laggy and runs circles around it. I had many issues with the fascinate with this not so much.
I would get one on eBay and save the upgrade in case you dont like it on either an iPhone 5 or Bionic when (if) they come out in a few months.

I jumped ship too last weekend and so far I'm loving it. rooting it is quite a pain tho, the fascinate was definitely easier to root. My battery life is the same or better than the fascinate while rooted on comm rom. radio and gps is much better on the tbolt too, at least in my experience.

GPS on my Fascinate was instant and accurate - within 3-5 feet usually. On my Thunderbolt it takes at least a minute to get a lock and it's never even close to 30 feet. I guess I was one of the few people with a Fascinate that had great gps from the minute I got it...

yea, you were definitely lucky! as of community rom, and the ED01 radio, it took at least a minute to lock on (which was better than before when it would take 5 min to lock on). my tbolt locks instantly, even inside.
I used an early upgrade to get my t-bolt, and I love it! DEFINITELY go for it.
Well first off verizon is suppose to get an lg monster like tmo. Also id wait just too see what htc is pushing out. Then you do have moto actually talking about doing what sony is to there phones. Aka go online type your esn in and they give you a specific unlock code for your phone but voids warranty for anything not having to do with bad hardware.

Love my thunderbolt! I did come from an Eris tho so I am quite awestruck.
Another one of these threads, eh?
There are several others, FYI.
All in all, I would think, despite the shortcomings (battery, gps, kinks), that most people here are in fact happy with their Thunderbolt. There have been, in my opinion -- and in such a short period of time -- great strides in development on this device.
My personal favorites (in no particular order):
- Voice + Data simultaneously;
- Ample RAM;
- Strong developer support;
- A fairly vibrant (albeit not necessarily the best) screen;
- Plenty of speed viz. no lag;
- Made by HTC;
- Easy to root (thanks to those who tirelessly made it easy to do with adb);
- 4G LTE!
My personal grudges (YMMV):
- GPS location acquisition;
- Battery efficacy (but remember, this phone isn't just a beast, but it's a first-in-class);
- Random reboots (more kinks that will be worked out, I'm sure).
If I had it to do over again, I would still have bought the Thunderbolt!
Good luck in whatever decision you make.

G2X - Great Phone or Hype?

Read this review and it says the G2x is the best android device around, what do yo think?
I absolutely love mine. I've never had reboot or battery problems like some other people. Just some light bleed that's only visible in a dark room with screen brightness >50%

I'm loving mine too. I haven't had any problems with mine. No reboots, no horrible battery drain, no horrible bleeding etc.
I love mine too. The best electronic device I've ever owned, bar none. Convergence baby!
Edit: I posted that before I read his review. That has to be the lamest, shallowest, most pitiful review I have ever seen.
I live mine as well
The only good reviews still around is gsmarena. I just love reading them!
That "review" was pretty pathetic.
Same here love the device. Speedy and slick and with a real gingerbread release coming soon, it can only get better. I say real because the leaked gingerbread lacks full driver and kernel support for the device, and on my device make it less stable.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA Premium App
The G2x is the best phone I have owned to date and I've owned about 30 cellphones in my lifetime. Aside from a small amount of light bleeding, I have no complaints whatsoever. G2x = sleeper phone of the year imo.
I would probably agree, even though i had the horrible battery drain issue.
I cant wait to get another one tomorrow.
It's definitely a good phone.
I LOVE this phone! The salesman at T-Mobile almost had me talked into waiting for an HTC Sensation but after coming home and doing some research, I picked the G2x. Couldn't be happier.
I've spent the last two weeks on my phone more than I have my PC, and I have a BEAST of a PC, i7 @ 4.2GHz, GTX470 @ 900MHz, 6GB DDR3-2000, OCZ 60GB SSD, and full custom water loop!
Best phone I've ever had. There have definitely been some software/quality control issues reported, but if you're not unlucky and get a fully working one, it's a fantastic device and the first phone I've used that shows Android's full potential.

Their quality sucks in regards to what? Their mobile processors that have been leading the pack since the Hummingbird? Or their NAND memory that every other manufacture wants for their device? Oh wait. I know. Its their cameras eveb though Engadget just said the GSII has a better camera than any other phone in history besides the N95.
The SGSII actually has longer battery life than any Android device so far. I can also tell you that eveb though the phones are light, it does not mean their not durable. My Vibrant lasted through several drops and over 50 house fires. In those fires it got wet most of the time. My Nexus One however only survived 4 fires before it broke due to water damage. The phone would still turn on but the touch screen wouldn't work and I could see some water under the display. In the end, Samsung uses plastic for a reason. Cell signal along with WiFi signal more readily pass through it than it does through metals.

Why you love your Mytouch 4G

There are allot of reasons I love my phone, but just yesterday I dropped mine in the fish tank! WoW I was worried about it not working anymore. Did the normal steps to dry it out. To my surprise it is fine.

I wiped it off and kept using it afterwards like nothing happened. I was expecting at least my mic or headset to screw up but its been fine since.

It was 1/2 flushed! Sort of.
I've had this phone since before there was a root method for it. It's not my daily driver anymore, but I love the form factor and weight, and I love perfectly stable cm7 on it.
I feel like this is the last of the purist Android devices.

Because I slammed it in the back hatch of my car at the E. R. The 2nd day I had it. Right on the latch and screen and I only needed a new screen protector.
because i recently purchase my first android smart phone having good hardware configuration and custom rom support that's why i really love mt4g...
Its getting old but still kicking. I'm sure the battery will be the first to give up the ghost.

I'm on my 3rd one.
Developers are loving it even today
I love my mytouch-4g because the developers are still showing love for it. I am running CM10.1 on mine, updates more frequently available than the other most high octane phones.

This is true, cm10.1 is only in pre-alpha stages for both sgs2 and sensation. I keep my mt4g on cm7 though because I love "traditional android."
It'll be a sad day when we upgrade... Wonder how long we can hold out...

The reason I like htc glacer because it better than iphone 4. Plus I like andriod UI and tweaks.
Cuz my buddy who writes games for android and owns an siii is still in awe at the crazy new rom I have on my phone practically every week.
