Love the phone but not enough to vote for it. Very upset with the battery issues this phone is having. So for me voting is almost like recommending it to someone. It's actually making me miss my T-Mobile g2 I had. They should of had that phone on the list.

It's kind of lame they're comparing it to a phone that won't come out for another 3-4 months. They must be webOS fanboys (though webOS is nice all around, just needs a platform to run on) but really, comparing a phone you can have now to a phone you can have sometime in the summer when it's barely spring right now?
At least they're not comparing to jesusphone 5 (which wont be out for another 7-8 months if that)

Yes, I agree, it should only be open to phones that actually exist. I'm sure there will be an HTC out in 2 years that will kick all their asses - lets put it in the bracket, too...
P.S. - It IS ugly. Looks like Salvador Dali painted a Blackberry...

Palm has a physical keyboard fetish they wont get over, but obviously they could design a phone better that has a keyboard too. The first pixie phone (horrible name though) was pretty well designed.

To be honest, that whole "bracket" is bull****.

Exactly. And although I do not like the iPhone, it should definitely make an appearance in the Final Four... but I guess that is why it is called March Madness.

Use an early upgrade?

Okay, stupid topic, but I have to ask. Looking at selling my Fascinate and taking an early upgrade to a Thunderbolt. Seems to be a completely solid device, and I would love to get an HTC back in my hands after a year of Sammy pains.
Looking to find out from the folks who've had it for a minute what their opinions are?

So far, so good. I haven't rooted mine, because I really haven't felt the need yet.
I'm coming from the Sammy Vibrant, and I loved the phone.
I like this one better. Much more responsive, and it doesn't fall prey to the lag issues, the primary reason I rooted my Vibrant in the first place.
I'd say go do it. Awesome phone.

I upgraded from a D1. I kinda miss some of the control I had over that phone, but the devs had a lot time to master that device. The TB will get there as well especially since a lot of devs & themers have the phone.
I rooted mine so I could remove all the bloat (~250mb of junk). I am running the latest RUU and with a custom kernel.
I have been very happy with the Tbolt. The battery life has been better than I expected.
It's a great phone. I'd recommend it!
I love it but why not wait. You made it this far. In a month or so there will be better phones.

The only things I miss about the Fascinate is the size/weight and the gps. I get better reception with the bolt and I love being able to use data while I'm on the phone. If the boro has coverage like Hinesville, you'll welcome the better reception.
I had a fascinate too. Yea Def make the switch. Battery isn't as good, but it charges quick it about 40 times less laggy and runs circles around it. I had many issues with the fascinate with this not so much.
I would get one on eBay and save the upgrade in case you dont like it on either an iPhone 5 or Bionic when (if) they come out in a few months.

Ha. I'm just ready to move on, and the feedback is helpful. There's really nothing wrong with the Fascinate, outside of it just feels chicky overall, no matter what.

+1 fascinate forums are quiet now!
I jumped ship too last weekend and so far I'm loving it. rooting it is quite a pain tho, the fascinate was definitely easier to root. My battery life is the same or better than the fascinate while rooted on comm rom. radio and gps is much better on the tbolt too, at least in my experience.

GPS on my Fascinate was instant and accurate - within 3-5 feet usually. On my Thunderbolt it takes at least a minute to get a lock and it's never even close to 30 feet. I guess I was one of the few people with a Fascinate that had great gps from the minute I got it...

yea, you were definitely lucky! as of community rom, and the ED01 radio, it took at least a minute to lock on (which was better than before when it would take 5 min to lock on). my tbolt locks instantly, even inside.
I used an early upgrade to get my t-bolt, and I love it! DEFINITELY go for it.
Well first off verizon is suppose to get an lg monster like tmo. Also id wait just too see what htc is pushing out. Then you do have moto actually talking about doing what sony is to there phones. Aka go online type your esn in and they give you a specific unlock code for your phone but voids warranty for anything not having to do with bad hardware.

Love my thunderbolt! I did come from an Eris tho so I am quite awestruck.
Another one of these threads, eh?
There are several others, FYI.
All in all, I would think, despite the shortcomings (battery, gps, kinks), that most people here are in fact happy with their Thunderbolt. There have been, in my opinion -- and in such a short period of time -- great strides in development on this device.
My personal favorites (in no particular order):
- Voice + Data simultaneously;
- Ample RAM;
- Strong developer support;
- A fairly vibrant (albeit not necessarily the best) screen;
- Plenty of speed viz. no lag;
- Made by HTC;
- Easy to root (thanks to those who tirelessly made it easy to do with adb);
- 4G LTE!
My personal grudges (YMMV):
- GPS location acquisition;
- Battery efficacy (but remember, this phone isn't just a beast, but it's a first-in-class);
- Random reboots (more kinks that will be worked out, I'm sure).
If I had it to do over again, I would still have bought the Thunderbolt!
Good luck in whatever decision you make.

OMG GPS is awesome...

...on my sons brand new htc sensation! I had a g1 before I picked up the vibrant last July. COMPLETELY forgot how fast and accurate htc's gps is. I'm in my house and it follows me around within approximately 10 feet. The vibrant on the other hand STILL takes forever to find a sat and then I'm lucky if it's within 50 feet. No contest.
The only strong point of samsung is the "vibrant" screen. But, it kills battery life and the qhd on the sensation is sharper even if not as vibrant.
That's my review. Goodbye samsung. Then again I won't upgrade for a year, so who knows!
But, so far, HTC is my next.

Exactly! I've been trying to justify a tablet and for me it just doesn't make sense. Anything I want to do that requires a bigger screen (than 4/4+ inches) I'd also want a keyboard. So, yeah, I kinda don't get the tablet craze.

Thinking about trading this phone for a mango device????

you should do what makes you happy
I know just wanted other peoples opinion on what their feelings are towards wp7 and mango update
sent from a guy living in a van down by the river
Personally, I think the UI is nice but I get more function from my Android along with a larger device pool to choose from. Android also has better games and more apps. Personally, I love Microsoft but I think WP7 is a failure with no game change. It really doesn't bring anything new to the table. I used Windows Mobile for years but I see no reason to go back. Unless you know something I don't. You have to ask yourself. Is there something you wish you could do with Android that you can with WP7?
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA Premium App
I like the wp7 style but I tried to use Launcher 7 as a daily driver and it felt sort of cramped. I'd goto the marketplace and install launcher 7 and see how you like it first.
I sold my nexus one for an HTC hd7. Worst decision ever. Though the interface is refreshing, the phone is ridiculously limited. The apps cost a lot more and they are often limited when compared to their iPhone Android counterparts.
I had a developer account and was able to sideload apps and beta test the mango update. It is still years behind other mobile operating systems.
Also, the resale value is not very good in wp7 handsets.
Needless to say, I was extatic to get back on android with the g2x.
Sent from my LG-P999
I had installed wp7 on my hd2 before buying my g2x. That port was already limited because it wasn't meant to be released, but I loved it. Some apps are more expensive and you wont find as many. The UI is awesome imho. The live tiles are perfectly thought out. And I miss the Zune account for streaming and downloading music. Wish I had an android alternative. If you want customization and rooting/flashing tweaking above all else stay with android. But if you like the phone designs coming out that had wp7 OS, and just want a prepackaged sleak os I would say go for it.

Next phone you get should be either a Motorola Android, Windows Phone Nokia, or Iphone 6. Those are going to be the big 3. If apple can figure out how to make the phone side of the iphone sound better and get some clarity on the mic and speaker with an antennae that doesn't get jammed with a hand over it, then it could win me over. Nokia is already a solid phone on that side, if microsoft just got that software running with more apps then that phone will be solid. And if Android could just lose the fragmentation non-sense on the hardware (which it should with motorola) and get the quality apps working properly (i.e. skype, netflix, calender, where's nba jam for android?) then I'm all for it.
Coming from a htc hd7 with winmo7 to a g2x I would advise against it. I hate winmo, it's plain, boring and you can't change it (actually the opposite of android). It's like having an iphone that isn't jail broken only worse. There are a lot less apps and the paid apps cost on average $1 more than they would on android market or iphones market.
I didn't wait around long enough for mango to come out because I am impatient and someone made a good offer on my phone...Maybe it's different, but I wouldn't get my hopes up for it being anything spectacular.
thats so funny i love my G2x. took a few roms to be happy but gee i think faux an CM haz it!!!
HATERS! get out of here! then again i knew how to cope with my lemon!
As far as a WM7 phone... i had it but one of the first releases and it was ok, i wouldnt give up my android for it. i feel there are many more aps, devs, and customization options on android.

Time's up HTC!

i definitely agree but as bad as they are with their updates i will always love their phones and sense. HTC will always be my first pick.
Maybe I have stockholme syndrome.
My first and only smart phone has been the bolt. My only frame of reference beyond this is my wife's iphone4. I give it credit, it inspired me to get a smartphone. But I've never been a fan of overpriced mac products or their pretentious marketing or the sheep that swear by it.
Her phone is much smoother than mine. Hell, I had no reference to how android should be until I got a nexus 7. The nexus is smooth. My bolt is like driving down a bumpy road in a car without shocks. But, it's what I know. I like sense because it's familiar, and it's what I equate a smart phone to.
That said, I'd happily take a one X over a SGS 3 IF ONLY the X had a sd card slot, a removable battery, and hdmi out (does it have that?). I'm all about the underdog, and for a company thats much smaller than the mighty samsung, they make good stuff. But why are they dropping the ball so much. Before you know it they'll lock the bootloader and be just as toxic as motorola.

We shall see, however Nexus devices are looking better and better everyday.
I just threw a tomato into my trousers and punched my self in the foot. So, basically the speed of sound is yellow.

I'm not exactly sure what that is supposed to mean, but I think it's absolutely hilarious! Then again, I have a strange sense of humor...

looks like they will miss the deadline. i'm hearing this from multiple sources as well as the dinc2 not getting ICS til october.....thoroughly dissapointed
Well in 5 hours, eastern time, we will see. I won't expect it till after the holiday. HTC and Verizon probably have half of their staff out on vacation. Slackers, well procrastinators would probably be the better word.

Yeah, development on the rezound is and has been slow. Some devs refuse to work on the rezound because they dislike the resound community.
Not to mention having short the phone out for s off is dangerous.

I love my thunderbolt with the liquid ICS jmod

That's ridiculous, it is not dangerous if you do it right, its amazing that the devs found that trick. The rezound is absolutely superior in every way (hardware and development) to the thunderbolt.

I just wish the t-bolt was thinner, other than that it seems to have enough hardware muscle to keep up and the development community is fairly active.

My opinion on "MY" Thunderbolt is that it is a good.. But not great device. Battery Life is poor. Other than that, the only real complaint about the device itself is that the proximity sensor used to turn the screen off while it's against my head hasn't worked since about the second week I had the phone.. My Tbolt has had a good run. I will have had it 2 yrs this November. It has gotten pretty beat up with dings, scuffs, and chips all over it and a cracked screen (right across the "home" soft key) but all in all its still kickin strong.
Compared to my buddy's gs3 I'd say it, at least appears, to be lacking. The gs3 is a pretty cool device but honestly I think it's more of the simple human need for bigger and better toys that separates the two.. I am running Liquid's ICS at standard processor speed and I didn't notice much speed difference between the two phones...
I think it really boils down to device specific features and how the phone looks and feels that make me choose a phone and with custom roms and the basic customization of the Android OS they can all potentially be equal in that aspect...
That's my... Idk... 50 cents haha..
Thanks for the share.. I'd say it sounds like the guy is just trying to say what he can to sell his Thunderbolt lol

Hmmm... I can't argue how long I have had my Thunderbolt.. I have a terrible memory lol. I was just going off of the fact that I get a 2yr upgrade discount in November... Not sure why that would be that way... Hell let's just say I've had it since I got it... Lol
