[Q] [Solved, sort of.]Accidentally disabled radio thru testing screen, then ROM flash - Droid 2 Global General

Hey there--longtime lurker, first-time poster. I've learned much from these forums. (perhaps too much, we'll see... heh)
I got a new Droid 2 Global (D2G) from Verizon Wireless this week, and wanted to see if I could get better battery time. I found a post on another forum with some settings in the testing screen -- *#*#4636#*#* . When I went in, I went to Phone information --> Select radio band. A screen pops up with "Set GSM/UMTS band" and "USA Band" only as a selection, and without knowing really, I clicked on USA Band.
This caused my signal to go away altogether. (as in, little red circle and slash through the radio bars.) No matter what I select in "Set preferred network type" on the main Phone Information screen, no signal comes up. (Tho it does think it's connected to AT&T or T-Mobile sometimes, but with no actual connectivity.) In network settings, selecting Global, CDMA, or GSM/UMTS doesn't work, either.
Resigned to my fate, I wiped the data & cache, and then flashed the stock SBF (v2.4.29) using Ubuntu and sbf_flash successfully. But this hasn't fixed the radio problem and now (get this), the Wifi is busted-- it just keeps showing "Error" as a status message. I suspect I needed the slightly newer SBF (2.4.33) but couldn't find a verified stable version, so I didn't go there.
Without any connectivity at all, I can't (or don't know how) to get the phone back to a bootloader screen, and can't get to any Market apps. Blargh.
Any advice is much appreciated.
--
UPDATE:
I've figured out (duh) that I can load apk's onto the phone via USB, so I'm doing that now to get root and Droid 2 Bootstrap back.
Looking elsewhere this morning, I've found the recommendation in other threads to flash the radio image. Anyone know where I can find this file?
[edit] And, in the light of day, I found how to go directly to the bootloader screen. (In case anyone else landed here looking for that: Power down the phone; plug it into the USB port. Open the keyboard and hold down the up arrow. Turn the power on, continuing to hold the up arrow.
--
UPDATE #2: Went to Verizon after removing all traces of root, CW, etc. Confessed to using 4636; guy scolded me, walked away, and came back with a working radio. Wifi wasn't working still; but when I did the OTA update to 4.2.33, it came back fully functional.

removed
[removed, condensed into one post above]

coulda redid the test page and reselected gsm/evdo auto thats the default setting for global and enabled the wifi also.

Yeah, tried that. Nothing I selected worked. In the radio band, there was only "USA Band," and in "Preferred network," none of the options worked. There were no other options to mess around with. I'd love to know what the dude did to reset it; I was too worried about him figuring out all the warranty-breaking stuff I'd already done to ask.

You should've just said "My phone service stopped working". Most of the time, the Verizon drones are stupid, and have no idea what half of the lingo means.

Same problem here
New to this post and maybe a bit late to the thread. Dunno.
In any case, any help on this issue would be awesome. I did exactly as the poster said and now my phone is not connecting to any network. Reading through your lines gave me a spooky feeling of déjà-vu. Anyone knows here what this clerk did to that phone to make it running again? I live in Spain and can Not go to a Verizon or Sprint (in my case) shop.
I was/am using the Motorola Photon 4g with a Spanish carrier. The phone worked ok with GSM and data 3g was awesome. The only problem I had was that it said that it was always roaming although it wasn’t; that’s why I went to that 4636 testing screen. If I now go to Select radio band, I get USA band only.
Please help.

See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1202666 for the SBF image. You'll need to flash it to your phone.
Might help; usually helped people with their D2Gs.

I dont have a Sprint account and I doubt they will be willing to give me my MSL code. I bought this phone to work in EU as it is unlocked outside the USA, but it should be locked in the USA.
And reading to the thread you've given me, seems like I would need the MSL code.

To flash the SBF, you need RSDLite and the SBF image.
I'm not sure why would you need that MSL code, whatever it is.

Ok. I think I've seen that in you referred post, but I may be wrong.
In that case, that's great news. I'm downloading the file from your referred post and I will look into it.
Although I'm not sure of what an RSDLite and the SBF image are, but I will follow the steps mention on your referred post. Thanks a lot.

RSDLite is a program that lets you flash the SBF into your phone.
An SBF is a System Boot File, a factory image of the phone's firmware. It restores the phone's state to “brand new, straight from the factory” state (sometimes excluding /data).

Thanks again for ur answers. Just in case u know this one, does my pc needs to be a 64 bits or thats for the phone? Because my hp is 32 and that post says 64. I have read 30 pages of the 79 pages of ir referred post but didnt get that answer so far. In any case, thanks so much, its all downloaded and will quite sure end up flashing tomorrow.

Phone Fixed!
Yes M8! Thank U, THANK U, THANK U SO MUCH!
AFTER FLASHING PHONE WITH YOUR LINK, MY PHONE IS BACK TO LIVE!
I had contacted my carrier, Motorola USA, Motorola Spain, Motorola USA again, Motorola Spain Again, Mi carrier again, Motorola Forums, Mi carrier again... Nothing worked. Now!, thanks to you, it's working again.
So Have a great day in Japan and let me know if you need any help from Spain!

My TP2 Won't turn on, please help!

Hello All,
I hope someone can help me with this.
I have a TP2 (Sprint) and I need to use it for At&t.
The first thing I did was unlock the device using RhodiumWUnlocker from Olipro (and made my donation ).
I did all steps, and everything went fine. No problems. And it detected AT&T
Then I flashed the ROM with EnergyROM Leo Manila 2.5 WM6.5 v 16Feb2010, By NRGZ28. (File: Energy.RHOD500.23529.Leo_MaxManila.16.Feb.2010.rar) - Still all well, no problems.
Then it went back to stock and could not detect AT&T. So I flashed the Radio Version: 4.49.25.91 from this thread: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=549939.
Now I cannot turn on my phone at all - No "touchpro2" screen, no bootloader, nothing at all. The phone doesn't react to any combinations of buttons to turn on or load up bootloader. When I connect the phone to the computer (Vista by the way) the charging orange light comes on for about 3 minutes then goes off. Then I press the power button and the light comes back on, but nothing else happens to the phone.
Please help!!! Let me know what's wrong and how I can fix it, please!!! I'll make another donation to fix it.
Thanks!
I'm no expert but it sounds like you may have flashed a CDMA Rhodium with GSM firmware. I had a quick look and it seems the Sprint Rhodium is CDMA, you should have a look at the CDMA Rhodium forum here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=517
I'm not totally sure of the GSM / CDMA thing because I'm not in the U.S. it's not something I need to worry about.
Good luck dude
Yeah the more I look at this, the more I am convinced this is what has happened.
You used CDMA HardSPL (RhodiumWUnlocker)
Then flashed a CDMA ROM (Energy.RHOD500 ...)
but your mistake was to flash a GSM Radio ROM (I followed the URL you gave and up popped the GSM Radio ROM thread)
I don't know if this is recoverable but searching the CDMA forum would be a good start. You can't be the first person this has happened to.
Thanks for the response, but I am certain I flashed the correct ROM.
*I went to the wingster website
*I selected CDMA ROM's
*Clicked on EnergyROM Leo
*Clicked on Download - Hotfile.com
*Selected this ROM: Energy.RHOD500.23529.Leo_MaxManila.16.Feb.2010.rar
When I flashed this ROM, the phone loaded up without any issues. The only problem was that I could not make calls because it could not detect the AT&T SIM card. So I flashed the radio shown on the post from xda, and the PC said congratulations, everything is complete and good. At this time, the cell phone rebooted and it just never came back on.
Thanks for the help!!
Thanks MadBeef, I will research the CDMA forum.
The Main ROM you flashed was fine. It's the Radio ROM you flashed that killed it, because your phone is CDMA hardware but now it has GSM Radio ROM on it. That's my theory anyway, I'm hoping someone a bit more experienced with CDMA will be able to chime in.
If you can get back into the bootloader somehow, you should be able to flash a CDMA Radio ROM.
I only read the first line of your problem...sprint to at&t...it can never happen. Sprint is cdma which has no sim and at&t is a gsm which has a sim. You better have insurance so you can run over your now "speed bump" and get a new one.

ROM fine.
Radio ROM = BAD.
RHOD400 and RHOD500 are the model numbers for the Sprint and Verizon TP2s respectively. Other carriers also share these model numbers, but those are the big two.
The Radio ROM you flashed however is for the GSM only TP2, not the combo CDMA/GSM TP2 that you have.
Flashing that Radio ROM was a HUGE no-no. Boom.

You should put a little more time into research before jumping in with the flip comments.
1) Sprint does have SIM cards. I've got one in my hand. (No, they're not used in all phones of course, but Sprint does have their own).
2) The Sprint Touch Pro 2 can very well be used on ATT once it is security unlocked and a patched Radio ROM is flashed. To say "it can never happen" is flat out wrong because it's been happening for a few months.
3) The CDMA Touch Pro 2 models (RHOD400 and RHOD500) aren't just CDMA. They are CDMA/GSM/UMTS worldphones, supporting operation in all three modes.
I'm Sorry Gamescan if I did not understand correctly. Does this mean there is no help? There's absolutely nothing I can do to revert this and fix it?
I really appreciate all the help!!
I wanted to reply to Akademik's comment, but I didn't have time. This is not the first phone I flash, but it is the first CDMA/GSM phone. I know this phone is dualmode, else I wouldn't have bought it to use it in AT&T.
Thanks again!

Can you connect to it via a mtty terminal?
I don't know if the SD card flash method would work here. If it were my phone I'd try it, but if it's not getting as far as the bootloader I think the chances are slim Maybe while there is no SIM card in it, give the radio ROM less to do?
Found some CDMA radios here:

Sounds like you might be screwed but there's a few ideas you can try. Good luck.

Sorry, but what's a mtty terminal? That's new material for me...
and as Madbeef said, I have no access to the bootloader screen. I'm pressing all possible combinations of keys, and nothing.
Thanks again.

this result is based on shenriquez american flag in his pro. basically saying hes in america using an american sprint tp2 and trying to use american att service.
gamescan, if i said it cant be dont its quite obvious ive done research through trials and also working a phone carrier for 3 years before finding a better job...THIS CANNOT BE DONE. the dual mode in the sprint tp2 is ment for when people travel to europe, they can pop their "european sim" in and be on their merry way. european cell towers accept the frequency of the sprint tp2 and establish a connection. the US towers have "locked out" tmo and att from being used in the sprint tp2. the reason why you found att on connection setup was that your phone was basically saying" yes att is here, but your not connecting". shenriquez i followed the link to the radio you flashed before you got "shut off". you shouldnt have flashed a GSM radio on a SPRINT TP2...you are bricked my dude. you gave your phone a seizure man.

Google mtty (or search for it on here).
Short version it's text based, but it's pretty much the lowest level access that a consumer can get to a HTC device without ripping the sucker open, manually desoldering the flash chip and putting in another.
If you're not getting the tri-color bootloader screen, there is still the possibility of saving it via terminal commands, but it's not straightforward (and depending on what happened it is certainly NOT guaranteed).

Only it can be done.
With the tools mentioned in this here very forum.
Any many people have done it.
Again, you're not doing your research and making claims that are flat out wrong.
1) The Sprint TP2 hardware does support the US GSM frequencies.
2) The Sprint TP2 hardware does not ship with a SIM lock.
3) The Sprint TP2 hardware does ship with the two US GSM frequencies disabled in software.
4) If you pay for the Olinex security unlocker you can easily flash a patched radio ROM which re-enabled the two disabled frequencies.
About the only correct thing said in the post above is that he should not have flashed a radio ROM from a GSM-only TP2 to a CDMA/GSM combo TP2. The two devices do have different hardware so flashing the wrong drivers *IS* a BAD THING(tm).
But, assuming you have paid for the security unlocker, flashing a Sprint TP2 with an updated radio ROM is stupid easy and once you've done that making it work on ATT or TMO in the US requires nothing more than slotting in an active SIM card and switching the phone to GSM mode.
If you don't know the answer to something, please feel free to ASK about it, but don't make unfounded and incorrect statements. When you state an absolute that is false it just spreads misinformation which makes things confusing for other users, especially those new to the device.

Prove your lame theory. Links that sprint gsm will connect to US towers. Even links in "this very forum". Different frequencies dude.
My two cents -- as I am new, too -- but I ran into a similar situation trying to update the radio on my Verizon TP2 due to 1X issues. My phone is unlocked as I was running Mighty but decided to return to stock (6.1).
Note: my SIM is not unlocked. If I understand correctly, the SIM needs to be unlocked to be able to install a radio from a different carrier, like Sprint.
[As a side note: I think these forums use the term "radio" a little too loosely because the program to unlock the phone to be able to flash unsigned ROMs is also called a "radio" unlocker.]
Back on topic: I flashed my phone with and unlocked radio 2.23.00WU and the result was similar to what happened to your phone: it did not turn on, orange light was on.
I was able to flash stock ROM back onto the phone using the USB cord and the phone is back to normal. Even though it was basically non-responsive except for the orange light.
My phone is in working order after the wrong radio incident.
I hope this helps.

If you believe that you're obviously flat out lying when you make the claim of having worked for a carrier for three years, because no one who worked for a wireless carrier could possibly be this ignorant about how GSM works. It's either that or you're purposely posting false information in a lame attempt to screw with the newbies on this site.
The Sprint TP2 hardware supports all four GSM frequencies - 850, 900, 1800, 1900. You can pull up any spec sheet on the model to see that. This isn't exactly hidden information.
Sprint disables the US frequencies in firmware.
If you are security unlocked you can flash one of the two patched radios in the sticky thread in this forum.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=578659
Then you toss an active SIM card into the phone and turn it on while in the US. Set it to GSM mode and bam, you're on a US tower.
Your claim is the equivalent of running around screaming "The sky is GREEN because I say it is! The sky can't be blue. That's false!"

The phone needs to be security unlocked to flash a different radio. If it is not security unlocked a unsigned radio will cause the boot sequence to fail. Flashing a carrier provided radio will restore the phone to service.
Security Unlocking means setting the phone to SuperCID. It is different than SIM unlocking.
SIM unlocking allows you to use different SIM cards. It does not allow you to flash unsigned radios.
The Olinex unlocker will both security unlock you (SuperCID) and SIM unlock you (if needed).
if device was security unlocked and is detected by pc, most likely it can be recovered by mtty. unlike my case where device was not sec unlocked but its detected by mtty using usb or serial. bad news is it would be very hard to recover, im doing some jtag research first, at least i found the pins but no pinout.

[Q] WIND Home Connection Problems?

Hey there xdadevs, newbie here. I'll try to keep this as detailed and to the point as possible.
Problem
So I've got a Cincy Bell XT720, and I've gotten it properly SIM unlocked and rooted. I'll go to search for networks, consistently pick up Wind Home, and then attempt to connect to it. I'll select Wind Home, and immediately get a notification that says that "Selected network (WIND Home) unavailable", but it'll continue to try to connect to Wind Home. 1-2 minutes later, I'll get a message saying that "Your SIM card does not allow a connection to this network".
What I've Done to Try and Fix It
- Configure APN settings properly
- Reseat SIM Card
- Load Cincy Bell Stock 2.1/Dexter Froyo 2.2/XDA Special RC1 ROMs
- Attempt everything mentioned in this thread here: (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=974375)
What I think the Problem Is
- Radio/ROM config problem? Can't pinpoint it for the life of me.
- I KNOW it's not a hardware incompatibility problem, if that's a starting point. This is the Milestone XT720 and not the Motoroi, fully capable of supporting the HSDPA 1700/2100 bands that WIND Mobile uses for its 3G networks.
Any help I could get would be greatly appreciated. Right now, my only fallback is this horrid Huawei U1250...it works, but that's like saying that ramen noodles "works" in comparison to a banquet burger with fries. Thanks a ton in advance guys.
Lol, I'm using a CB XT720 on WIND as well, pretty cool. But yeah, mine is working without any issues. Go into a WIND store, show them your issue, and they should be able to replace the sim card. As mentioned in another thread, WIND had some issues with certain sim cards so that may be why your having the connection problems. If that doesn't help, then it's probably something to do with the phone itself.

At least I know that the CB XT720 does work for sure...I can get WIND to check it out (the SIM was ordered back in December or so last year) or even get the phone replaced via Moto warranty if needs be (somehow, still warrantied until March next year). Thanks for the help!
my XT720 is from sigapore and i'm using it on WIND without any issues
using Dexter's froyo ROM
make sure you get the BLACK version of the SIM card, the WHITE SIM cards dies very often
i've replaced both of mines already, they died on their own, both on my Nexus S and XT720
other friends that i've on WIND also had the same problem, with other phones, they also had the WHITE SIM card
just show them the problem, they will change the SIM card for you.
oh! but you need to go to the Corporate WIND stores, not the resellers stores

Alright...I'm pretty sure I have the black one (black w/ white trim), but it wouldn't hurt to get a replacement. This one's been in a bricked G1, another G1 that got caught in a torrential thunderstorm (you can tell I don't have good luck with those things), a Huawei U1719, and a Huawei U1250. It's probably just got some age on it by now...flaky with my U1250 anyhow, random (relatively frequent) disconnecting, wouldn't connect the first couple of times, etc. Thanks again, be sure to let you guys know how it goes. =.=
Meh, still got a problem. Tried another SIM, went over to WIND...no such luck. I was told that although the phone may be SIM unlocked and it can see the networks on the 1700/2100 band, the radio's firmware may be locked to prevent a connection (the employee had a similar problem with another phone for Bell). Is there anyone on here who can hook me up with an unlocked radio or a WIND Mobile ROM that could help with this? O-^
Hmmm, strange because I was able to connect to WIND Home on the stock CB 2.1 ROM, Khals MIUI ROM, and Mz's CM6 as well. Perhaps, something is wrong with your baseband? I would try this, if possible, get a friend's sim card (anything but WIND/Mobilicity) and see if you connect to that network whether it be Rogers, Telus, etc. If it can connect, then the phone is able to latch onto the regular GSM frequencies. With regards to an unlock radio or baseband, I'm not sure how thats done but maybe someone else on the forum can help you with that.
For some reason, I'll pop in my Rogers SIM (account was probably deactivated though), and my Moto says:
Emergency calls only
ROGERS
Emergency calls only
Go to check my available networks and..."WIND" is the only one that comes up? No idea as to whether its Home/Away or 2G/3G...just "WIND". Not as if it'll let me connect or anything anyways, same flop as the previous attempts ("Your SIM card does not allow a connection to this network"). :/
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10001234&postcount=34 - AHA! Videotron and WIND use the same bands (1700/2100), and some digging around turned that up. Looks like they've been having problems too. Can anyone help pinpoint their radio for me? It seems like that might just do the trick.
Update:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=944258#11176044 <- Can someone confirm that this is safe for the XT720? If so, my gut instinct's pretty sure this is exactly what I need...the "freq_F_CN_026-850-2100-signed.zip" one appears to be for Canada, while "freq_F_US_342_107-850-1700-2100-signed.zip" does the frequencies right. O-^
Mann, all I had to do was pop in my sim card and off I went. I think there was a 3G fix around here somewhere, make sure to get someone's "approval" first (one of the more experienced guys) because it may damage your phone. Try this though...
Dial *#*#4636#*#*, go into phone information, and see if anything looks off.
As for frequencies, the country does not matter, the frequencies do...for WIND, you need 1700/2100.
do not use those Defy fixes, it'll probably kill your XT720

Looks like they've been having problems too. Can anyone help pinpoint their radio for me? It seems like that might just do the trick.

Whew, alright. Good thing I asked first, thanks. I still can't get it to work properly...I'm more than likely going to have to ditch this thing and go with a G1 or a Touch Pro 2 if I don't have any better luck with it. Thanks for all the help though guys. :/
Have you flashed a sbf? If so, which one? If not did you buy this phone from Wind or somewhere else? If it is a baseband software problem, then perhaps flashing a different sbf will help (Maybe one of the North American ones-- CBW or brightpoint).

STR_U2_04.1E.1_SIGNED_USASHLSTAB14P2XAPCNCBW039.0R_NACBW_P011_A006_HWp3_1FF (Cincinnati Bell)...that's the only .sbf that I can get RSDLite to recognize for some reason. Attempting to pull up one for the UK or the US Brightpoint for example leaves the File Properties section blank and my start button disabled. I have version 4.5.3, if that's any help. Any hope of a miracle here?
Also, I bought it from a third-party in the US...didn't know what carrier it was with, but after some digging around and checking the "S/W" I found it to be Cincinnati Bell. Ideally I'd be looking for a WIND sbf, but I don't think anyone here's managed to get their hands on one. I'm almost at the point of just trying to take it apart to see if there's something loose in the hardware. Someone else on here was saying that there was a loose cable or somewhat that was preventing their UMTS from working properly (can't find the link). Everyone's saying it should be working just fine, I can't really see any alternative besides the baseband perhaps being flaky.

Yup, that's the Cincinnati Bell sbf. The brightpoint one is essentially identical but unbranded--the only differences are things like default webpage in the browser and preloaded bookmarks, etc. I don't know a lot about basebands, but I do know the only way to change the baseband firmware currently is with sbf. I think yours is fine, though. AllGamer is our resident WIND expert, so if his advice didn't help, I'm afraid I don't have much more to offer.
Actually, if this is a Cincinnaiti Bell phone, maybe it's SIM locked to CBW...? I know both of mine are. Does anyone know how to test that? SIM locks are also black magick to me.

i have a hunch you are still SIM locked, that error message ("Your SIM card does not allow a connection to this network") you keep having, kinda of suggest that
an easy way to find out, is to see if anyone have an extra unused Cinncinaty Bell's SIM card, and send it to you, so you can pop it in, and if it doesn't give you any error message, but "R"oaming, then that is a good dead indicator that the phone was not properly unlocked.
also in regards to the stock ROMs
you should have no problem flashing any of the .sbf files
my phone was originally an Asian one, then i flashed it to use the UK ROM, and after that i flashed the Dexter 2.2 to it
So are you saying that its possible that an unlock code can "unlock" the device (pass the unlock code request) and allow it to accept a foreign SIM, but still fail to allow it to connect to the SIM's networks? It'd make perfect sense if Rogers was an affiliated network with Cincinnati Bell (for roaming), since it'd be "mutual ground" between WIND and CBW. And then the SIM wouldn't be able to connect to WIND's exclusive 3G network since it was never on the "allowed" networks as defined by Cincy? =.=
if you are in Toronto, i'll suggest you go to P-mall, any of those cell phone stores there can help you unlock the phone for sure
or you can try your luck online with different ways to unlock the phone
quite sincerely we never really talked much about SIM unlocking of this phone within this forum.
perhaps a DEV might be able to help you figure out how to unlock it for free
because if you go to the malls they might charge you an unlocking fee regardless
although with the chinese places you can argue it didn't work, and they will not charge you for the unlocking

Cdma unlock r530m

Im certain I'm posting this in the wrong area, but I am thus far, unable to locate a specific thread for the evil MetroPCS Galaxy s3....or any generic CDMA thread. (That & I'm about as tech savvy as a rhinoceros)...
Im trying to 'unlock' (?) an SCH-R530m.. (the cdma GS3 with the infamous 14 digit imei/esn) so I can reuse it with MetroPCS.
I was stupid & tried to do the right thing when I lost... then found my phone. I called ins company and confessed the truth, that I found it....I sent back the one they'd sent me & in the end, I basically ended up with nothing, cause they LOCKED my original (lost... then found) phone & refused to unlock it! Yep, even after I returned the replacement... oh I now know that no good deed goes unpunished)...
Anyway, I just want to reuse it with Metro. That's it.. But when I get to the last step... (as described, below).. I can't get any further.
I type in:
1. *#22745927
2. *#197328640# and it brings up the factory service menu (very usefull)
3. Select (1) UMTS
4. Select (1)Debug Screen
5. Select (8) Phone Control
6. Select (6)Network lock
I get option in this menu, so I type in 11863", wait for about 60 secs (instructions say to then 'go back) but I cannot go back. Once I type in 11863 I'm unable to go any further....
I'm desperate here. I've literally been looking for an answer for 8 months.
Id appreciate any help!
Thanks.

Ahhhh......you forget MetroPCS is BOTH CDMA and GSM, at least right now.....remember, my question shows this was an actual Metro phone and was a CDMA....which they dont even offer anymore.... Anyway, I should have actually used the term unblacklist rather than unlock.....
Also, I already figured out how to do it, myself....6 months ago
Thanks for the response, though! Id been looking on occasion to see if anyone had bothered to answer it. I think I posted this way back.like last Oct or something.....

i would like some info on what/how you did this. did you "sim" unlock the phone, or just re-allow it to be used on Metro through them?
looking to actually get mine on T-Mobile...
Paid some guy locally $25 to flash another 4g phone's ESN onto it.
That said... I lost the 4g on it. It worked fine otherwise. I could send/receive MMS and had zero problems.

[Q] Google Nexus 5 - No Mobile Network Issue

Hello,
I am from India. I had purchased a Google Nexus 5 phone (Black/ 32GB) last year (December 20th, 2013)
I have started facing a serious issue since yesterday. My entire mobile network went down all of a sudden. Tried using other SIM but of no use. The same SIM works fine in other phone. Other functions including WiFi in Phone works perfectly fine.
A couple of things that I noticed are:
1) When I try to search for the Network manually, I get the message "Error while searching for Network".
2) I noticed that the PREFERRED NETWORK TYPE is defaulted to LTE. I cannot select any other option 2G or 3G.
3) When used Choose Automatically option - it starts with Automatic Registration and then flashes an error "Can't connect to this network right now try again later"
I tried doing a Factory reset hoping that it would work. But, no success. Have contacted LG Direct Service Center (since I bought it from retailer and not from GooglePlay store) and they suggested it's a PCB problem and it needs to replaced which would cost me around 12K INR. Which I am not ready for.
Please let me know what needs to be done. Any help is highly appreciated.
Regards,
Vijay

He's clearly not in airplane mode.
I have tried with all basic troubleshooting options, kindly check the attached screenshots. Please please help needed urgently.
I was going to make a new thread, but his problem matches mine almost exactly.
Hi guys, i have this problem for over a week now.. A very frustrating week i must say. I got this n5 about a month ago, my uncle got himself a G3 and gave his nexus to me.
Everything was smooth, amazed by the phone, everything working fine, happy as hell. It all crumbled when I went to spend the holidays at my brothers, where he lives my carrier doesn't work (everyone uses another one). When i got back to my house where the mobile network works fine it just stopped. All other sims would work on my phone and my sim work on other phones.
I gave it a time, thought it would be cause i spent too much time on my brothers and it would be ok after a while. It didn't. Then i started to worry and try to fix it somehow. First i got a new simcard (same carrier), no bueno. They told me to restore my phone and stuff, it didn't work. The phone has always that empty triangle, doesn't matter if it's 3G, 4G or 2G.
So I came to the internet look for help. I saw that some people had bring this to the LG, their response was to do a recovery with fastboot and then put 2G on the mobile network. For a moment i thought it was over, my phone finally had some bars !! But to my disgrace I can't make nor receive calls, i can only send/receive SMS and access internet thru 4G, not 2G as the support said. Oh, if i put 3G or 2G dem bars go missing and the empty triangle ****er appears again. Still, my simcard works on every other phone but now only one carrier works on my phone (not mine unfortunately).
Then I started looking on forums like this one and a whole bunch of others and tried many things, all of them unsuccessful.
I tried many things, maybe forgot some but will list those that i remember.
I tried to flash the factory rom. Then tried to flash only the radio of previous androids (tried too many of them to count). Dialed that *#*#4636*#*# or smth, put LTE/GSM, only LTE, activated/deactivated radio. Airplane mode on/off. Tried to recovery on fastboot again. Tried to make new APN. To finish my story, put a Cyanogemod rom and it also didn't work.
So now i decided to post here as my last shot before i go to that carrier that still works. Also, what guarantees that this carrier won't stop working like the others? I'm afraid that may happen. Further informations, i saw many people complaining about T-Mobile and other carries, but I'm brazilian, so it's not one of these. My carrier is Oi and the one that still works is TIM.
The two threads i got most tips were these and some sites in portuguese:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/help/bug-make-receive-calls-wifi-enabled-t2839814
Thank y'all in advance and sorry if my english make it hard or impossible to understand.
My fingers are crossed!

AT&T H950 update and recovery problems

It's an H950 from the $250 ebay deal. I am on ATT service and the phone worked fine at H95010d
I contacted ATT customer service and had them pushed OTA software update to me. The first agent pushed H95011x to me, and things went wrong since then.
The phone cannot read the sim card (but no missing sim notice), baseband shown as unknown, if I press the "status" under the "about phone" page, the screen will flash black then go back to the about phone page.
Then I tried a factory reset. The phone started normal as if everything was fine, it just works on the first boot after the reset. But once I restart the phone, it went back to the same situation as above. I tried many times and the whole process is highly repeatable.
After that, I contacted ATT again, had the H95011z pushed to me, and it did not change the problem. Replacing sim card does not help, either.
Then I tried to get to those recovery methods on the forum, including installing the LGE mobile device drivers. But then under download mode, the phone (LGE Android MTP device) is shown as "this device cannot start (code 10)". Thus I was not able to perform fix with the tools.
I am kinds of stuck in the middle. Any help and/or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

I am having exactly the same problem. I also replaced the SIM card, but instead of trying the 11z version I tried the rooted 11x version without any change.
As you wrote, a factory reset will restore the ability to make calls until the first reboot. For data, there is no APN listed. Manually inputing the APN info will cause data to work perfectly, but all APN data is lost/missing again on reboot.

I've sent the phone back for an exchange, and the new one is coming tomorrow. Just noticed your reply.
So there is no fix for this? Or is there a problem with the ATT OTA update we should be aware of?

This may not be a widespread issue, so there might've been an issue particularly with your Flex (maybe corrupt file?). I've used 11x/z without encountering this.

Feels nervous when finding others had the same issue.
Just want to make sure if there's anything i should know of before dealing with the new unit coming tomorrow.
quick report:
Received the exchange. Seems new as the last one but does not contain the ATT sim as the last one did.
Tried update with date changing, for like 20 times no luck. Chatted ATT service to push the two updates (11x and 11z) in, one after another. Gone through the process without problem, and seems working fine now.
So, it may be device dependent or case specific. Thank you for your input.
I also had to send mine back. It's sitting on my front step now. The strange thing is that the email telling me the phone was being sent back only listed a speaker problem, which I did not have and never mentioned. We'll see.

Are you an AT&T customer? I can not get the update to come OTA, whether with an ATT valid SIM or a different SIM. I also tried calling and because I have a business ATT line, I got business support and the lady was clueless about pushing the update to my phone from her end.

What time of day are you calling? I found calling during east coast business hours got me the right people. Ask the agent if they can do a google search from their computer, when/if they say yes ask them to search for H95011x or H95011z. The first or second result should be the AT&T page that explains the update, once my rep had that info things went MUCH better. (I just noticed for me the first result is my post on this forum LOL)
I got my Flex 2 back and LG did nothing to fix it. The repair said "fixed speaker". I never said anything about a speaker. After a couple frustrated calls I had to send it a second time. The second time, it was returned "no problem found". The phone is unusable as it can only be used after a reset and before a reboot or power off. More fun with LG later today. Ultimately, though, the reps don't give a crap; I couldn't even get the last rep to increase shipping speed, even though they failed to repair it the first time.
