My TP2 Won't turn on, please help! - Touch Pro2 CDMA

Hello All,
I hope someone can help me with this.
I have a TP2 (Sprint) and I need to use it for At&t.
The first thing I did was unlock the device using RhodiumWUnlocker from Olipro (and made my donation ).
I did all steps, and everything went fine. No problems. And it detected AT&T
Then I flashed the ROM with EnergyROM Leo Manila 2.5 WM6.5 v 16Feb2010, By NRGZ28. (File: Energy.RHOD500.23529.Leo_MaxManila.16.Feb.2010.rar) - Still all well, no problems.
Then it went back to stock and could not detect AT&T. So I flashed the Radio Version: 4.49.25.91 from this thread: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=549939.
Now I cannot turn on my phone at all - No "touchpro2" screen, no bootloader, nothing at all. The phone doesn't react to any combinations of buttons to turn on or load up bootloader. When I connect the phone to the computer (Vista by the way) the charging orange light comes on for about 3 minutes then goes off. Then I press the power button and the light comes back on, but nothing else happens to the phone.
Please help!!! Let me know what's wrong and how I can fix it, please!!! I'll make another donation to fix it.
Thanks!

I'm no expert but it sounds like you may have flashed a CDMA Rhodium with GSM firmware. I had a quick look and it seems the Sprint Rhodium is CDMA, you should have a look at the CDMA Rhodium forum here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=517
I'm not totally sure of the GSM / CDMA thing because I'm not in the U.S. it's not something I need to worry about.
Good luck dude

Yeah the more I look at this, the more I am convinced this is what has happened.
You used CDMA HardSPL (RhodiumWUnlocker)
Then flashed a CDMA ROM (Energy.RHOD500 ...)
but your mistake was to flash a GSM Radio ROM (I followed the URL you gave and up popped the GSM Radio ROM thread)
I don't know if this is recoverable but searching the CDMA forum would be a good start. You can't be the first person this has happened to.

Thanks for the response, but I am certain I flashed the correct ROM.
*I went to the wingster website
*I selected CDMA ROM's
*Clicked on EnergyROM Leo
*Clicked on Download - Hotfile.com
*Selected this ROM: Energy.RHOD500.23529.Leo_MaxManila.16.Feb.2010.rar
When I flashed this ROM, the phone loaded up without any issues. The only problem was that I could not make calls because it could not detect the AT&T SIM card. So I flashed the radio shown on the post from xda, and the PC said congratulations, everything is complete and good. At this time, the cell phone rebooted and it just never came back on.
Thanks for the help!!

Thanks MadBeef, I will research the CDMA forum.

The Main ROM you flashed was fine. It's the Radio ROM you flashed that killed it, because your phone is CDMA hardware but now it has GSM Radio ROM on it. That's my theory anyway, I'm hoping someone a bit more experienced with CDMA will be able to chime in.
If you can get back into the bootloader somehow, you should be able to flash a CDMA Radio ROM.

I only read the first line of your problem...sprint to at&t...it can never happen. Sprint is cdma which has no sim and at&t is a gsm which has a sim. You better have insurance so you can run over your now "speed bump" and get a new one.

ROM fine.
Radio ROM = BAD.
RHOD400 and RHOD500 are the model numbers for the Sprint and Verizon TP2s respectively. Other carriers also share these model numbers, but those are the big two.
The Radio ROM you flashed however is for the GSM only TP2, not the combo CDMA/GSM TP2 that you have.
Flashing that Radio ROM was a HUGE no-no. Boom.

You should put a little more time into research before jumping in with the flip comments.
1) Sprint does have SIM cards. I've got one in my hand. (No, they're not used in all phones of course, but Sprint does have their own).
2) The Sprint Touch Pro 2 can very well be used on ATT once it is security unlocked and a patched Radio ROM is flashed. To say "it can never happen" is flat out wrong because it's been happening for a few months.
3) The CDMA Touch Pro 2 models (RHOD400 and RHOD500) aren't just CDMA. They are CDMA/GSM/UMTS worldphones, supporting operation in all three modes.

I'm Sorry Gamescan if I did not understand correctly. Does this mean there is no help? There's absolutely nothing I can do to revert this and fix it?
I really appreciate all the help!!
I wanted to reply to Akademik's comment, but I didn't have time. This is not the first phone I flash, but it is the first CDMA/GSM phone. I know this phone is dualmode, else I wouldn't have bought it to use it in AT&T.
Thanks again!

Can you connect to it via a mtty terminal?

I don't know if the SD card flash method would work here. If it were my phone I'd try it, but if it's not getting as far as the bootloader I think the chances are slim Maybe while there is no SIM card in it, give the radio ROM less to do?
Found some CDMA radios here:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=90342
Sounds like you might be screwed but there's a few ideas you can try. Good luck.

Sorry, but what's a mtty terminal? That's new material for me...
and as Madbeef said, I have no access to the bootloader screen. I'm pressing all possible combinations of keys, and nothing.
Thanks again.

this result is based on shenriquez american flag in his pro. basically saying hes in america using an american sprint tp2 and trying to use american att service.
gamescan, if i said it cant be dont its quite obvious ive done research through trials and also working a phone carrier for 3 years before finding a better job...THIS CANNOT BE DONE. the dual mode in the sprint tp2 is ment for when people travel to europe, they can pop their "european sim" in and be on their merry way. european cell towers accept the frequency of the sprint tp2 and establish a connection. the US towers have "locked out" tmo and att from being used in the sprint tp2. the reason why you found att on connection setup was that your phone was basically saying" yes att is here, but your not connecting". shenriquez i followed the link to the radio you flashed before you got "shut off". you shouldnt have flashed a GSM radio on a SPRINT TP2...you are bricked my dude. you gave your phone a seizure man.

Google mtty (or search for it on here).
Short version it's text based, but it's pretty much the lowest level access that a consumer can get to a HTC device without ripping the sucker open, manually desoldering the flash chip and putting in another.
If you're not getting the tri-color bootloader screen, there is still the possibility of saving it via terminal commands, but it's not straightforward (and depending on what happened it is certainly NOT guaranteed).

Only it can be done.
With the tools mentioned in this here very forum.
Any many people have done it.
Again, you're not doing your research and making claims that are flat out wrong.
1) The Sprint TP2 hardware does support the US GSM frequencies.
2) The Sprint TP2 hardware does not ship with a SIM lock.
3) The Sprint TP2 hardware does ship with the two US GSM frequencies disabled in software.
4) If you pay for the Olinex security unlocker you can easily flash a patched radio ROM which re-enabled the two disabled frequencies.
About the only correct thing said in the post above is that he should not have flashed a radio ROM from a GSM-only TP2 to a CDMA/GSM combo TP2. The two devices do have different hardware so flashing the wrong drivers *IS* a BAD THING(tm).
But, assuming you have paid for the security unlocker, flashing a Sprint TP2 with an updated radio ROM is stupid easy and once you've done that making it work on ATT or TMO in the US requires nothing more than slotting in an active SIM card and switching the phone to GSM mode.
If you don't know the answer to something, please feel free to ASK about it, but don't make unfounded and incorrect statements. When you state an absolute that is false it just spreads misinformation which makes things confusing for other users, especially those new to the device.

Prove your lame theory. Links that sprint gsm will connect to US towers. Even links in "this very forum". Different frequencies dude.

My two cents -- as I am new, too -- but I ran into a similar situation trying to update the radio on my Verizon TP2 due to 1X issues. My phone is unlocked as I was running Mighty but decided to return to stock (6.1).
Note: my SIM is not unlocked. If I understand correctly, the SIM needs to be unlocked to be able to install a radio from a different carrier, like Sprint.
[As a side note: I think these forums use the term "radio" a little too loosely because the program to unlock the phone to be able to flash unsigned ROMs is also called a "radio" unlocker.]
Back on topic: I flashed my phone with and unlocked radio 2.23.00WU and the result was similar to what happened to your phone: it did not turn on, orange light was on.
I was able to flash stock ROM back onto the phone using the USB cord and the phone is back to normal. Even though it was basically non-responsive except for the orange light.
My phone is in working order after the wrong radio incident.
I hope this helps.

If you believe that you're obviously flat out lying when you make the claim of having worked for a carrier for three years, because no one who worked for a wireless carrier could possibly be this ignorant about how GSM works. It's either that or you're purposely posting false information in a lame attempt to screw with the newbies on this site.
The Sprint TP2 hardware supports all four GSM frequencies - 850, 900, 1800, 1900. You can pull up any spec sheet on the model to see that. This isn't exactly hidden information.
Sprint disables the US frequencies in firmware.
If you are security unlocked you can flash one of the two patched radios in the sticky thread in this forum.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=578659
Then you toss an active SIM card into the phone and turn it on while in the US. Set it to GSM mode and bam, you're on a US tower.
Your claim is the equivalent of running around screaming "The sky is GREEN because I say it is! The sky can't be blue. That's false!"

The phone needs to be security unlocked to flash a different radio. If it is not security unlocked a unsigned radio will cause the boot sequence to fail. Flashing a carrier provided radio will restore the phone to service.
Security Unlocking means setting the phone to SuperCID. It is different than SIM unlocking.
SIM unlocking allows you to use different SIM cards. It does not allow you to flash unsigned radios.
The Olinex unlocker will both security unlock you (SuperCID) and SIM unlock you (if needed).

if device was security unlocked and is detected by pc, most likely it can be recovered by mtty. unlike my case where device was not sec unlocked but its detected by mtty using usb or serial. bad news is it would be very hard to recover, im doing some jtag research first, at least i found the pins but no pinout.

No service (network). Please, help!

Hi,
I have an AT&T Tilt and I am trying to make it work here in Brazil, with Claro provider.
I did the SIM unlock, SUPERCID and Unlocked security, BUT I still can't get any service. I also tried several ROMs and RADIO combinations.
My phone keeps searching for network and don't find anything.
I already set the band mode to GSM (which is the band type here where I live) and still can't get it working.
Anyone have an idea about what can be wrong?
Thanks in advance!
You try the network configuration wizard? You can poll the device to make sure the SIM is indeed unlocked too. Also, make sure the radio you select is compatible with your rom choice.

It could be the frequency band selected for the GSM network. I don't think it's a SIM problem, since that usually comes up with an 'Incorrect SIM card' message, when it's not unlocked.
There are two bands for GMS, and I'm not exactly sure how you would select which one to use, since I don't see the option under Phone (green button)/Menu/Options. Another phone I had had a selection screen available where you could specifically select which band to use.
/drt
Hi,
my ROM is 1.82.721.1 WWE and RADIO is 1.27.14.09. I think there isn't any incompability on both.
I already tried to select the GSM bands manually. No success.
I also disabled HSDPA to prevent any issue.
I forgot to mention that the network wizard does not have an option for chosing Brazil as country.
Additionally, every time I turn the phone on appears the following message:
YOUR CURRENT OPERATOR (72402) IS NOT SUPPORTED. YOU SHOULD OBTAIN AN UPDATE FROM YOUR DEVICE VENDOR.
Another info: I am using Windows Mobile 6.0.
Looking here, I see that the carriers using Claro Name use GSM1800 (and 3G850) which are supported by the tilt.
I wonder if the problem is that the IMEI number needs to be registered with the carrier? I know some european countries (like turkey) require foriegn IMEI numbers to be registered before they will work.

Good catch, not only is that "an" at&t Radio but it is quite specifically "the" at&t Radio that only works with the at&t 1.6x.xxx Roms.
Although the OP did state they have used other Radios & Rom.

So, which combination would fit?
I don't need any at&t program, so the ROM would be e HTC.
Well, firstly, you must be getting a signal in order to get the operator MCC-MNC, so that part's out of the way.
Secondly, the error seems to originate with the "Network Wizard" program which handles auto-setup. Personally, I don't cook this program into my ROM's as I prefer to cook the settings right in and avoid the added bulk of that program.
Thirdly, a google search brings this up: http://209.85.173.104/search?q=cach...TED&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=2&gl=us&client=firefox-a
Lastly, it almost seems as if the Network Wizard is stopping you from using the network due to not having configuration settings for it? That's pretty whacked out.

I flashed the following: HTC 1.56.405.5 ROM and 1.27.12.11 RADIO (they come in a pack, so must be compatible).
There isn't the Network Wizard anymore.
Now I have Connection Setup and the message does not come when I turn on the phone, but the problem remains, no network.
There is 2 questions I wanted to make and can be the source of the problem:
1- Can I flash HTC roms in a AT&T Tilt?
2- Does make any difference choosing a country and operator at Network Wizard or Connection Setup? The phone does not work if I ignore it?

Not to be funny, but go to the CommManager and see if the Phone is turned on
I flashed several ROMz and the default in the CommManager was Phone off...it had me going for about 15 minutes the 1st time and 10 minutes the 2nd time.
If your Rom-Radio combination is correct...again, make sure the phone is on in the CommManager.

Hi..
I'm from Brazil and my Kaiser has no problems connecting to my network (TIM).
Afaik it shouldn't have any problems with Claro; take a look: http://www.pdabr.com/viewtopic.php?p=22232&sid=e678102e6b1f73d179dace0ec6c57793

I'm not sure if the IMEI registration for foreign sims is correct... I've taken my Kaiser (also Hermes) to Brazil and Turkey and they worked fine. I did have problems in Brazil with auto network selection but my phones worked fine with TIM and Claro when manually selected.
On a note with the IMEI - did you buy the phone new or used (ebay, small dark shop, man on a street corner etc). If it is used then there is a possibility that it's stolen and the IMEI is barred - you can check this by calling your service provider.

Do you guys both have the TILT or HTC version of the Kaiser? Mine is HTC branded and worked fine in Brazil.
Did you buy your phones new and in Brazil? If so then you should just get your supplier to replace them. If they are used then there is a chance that they are stolen and the IMEI is barred. If you got them overseas there may be some carrier lock installed (I seem to remember something like this with the X01HT versions of the Hermes).
Sorry I can't help out on this but maybe by bumping this thread someone else can help.
It may help if you give some more info about your phones such as:
ROM version
Radio version
HardSPL yes/no
Information from bootloader screen
Does your device info IMEI number match the one on the sticker?
This might help the technical gurus spot a solution.
Hello ACH2,
Yes, we 3 are having the TILT phones from AT&T.
For me, it was working fine for a month, and suddenly one fine morning it stopped working.
Before that i had flashed couple of dutty's roms and no problems at all... it all happened suddenly!
About the rom and radio versions, i think that wouldn't make a difference, as i have gone thru all the roms and radios here and nothing helps.
I have tried the WM6.1 roms with respective radios, and also the WM6.0 roms with their respective radios.
This is totally a strange problem that has started erupting in the AT&T Tilts all of a sudden!
I request the mods to make this sticky, so that more people can report their problems here in this single thread, unlike the 3 threads floating now for the same problem.
Thanks.
Hi all,,
Again asking for some solution to this problem... please guys let us know if anything can be done of our phones...
Thanks a lot.
I had the same problem and here' show to fix it.
Hi,
I had the same problem and tried everything.. So I contacted HTC and mailed in and they fix it for free.. They said the main board wasn't working propraly so they replace it for free. KNow I have my phone and it works good. Just go to HTC.com and contact them and make sure you tell them that you bough it from an att store.

Noob Bricked TP2?

Ok here is the deal I studied http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=448008 downloaded all the software. My phone is GSM TP2 Sprint, I started with the FlashHardSPL and I ran RaphaelHardSPL-Unsigned_190_1_3.exe (step 5)
clicked on the appropriate buttons..and it started to load. It remain stuck at 0% for a while and I got an error in the meantime my phone also just shuts off goes completely black. I think its safe to say its officially bricked i tried to do a hard reboot nothing comes up..I cant even power on or enter bootloader. The only thing I get to come on is the Charging Orange buttom.
I'm using Windows 7, and Net 4
any unbricking ideas?
You have a CDMA Touch Pro 2. This is for GSM Touch Pro. Completely different phones.
Your phone's probably dead, and like petard said, it's not gsm, it's cdma if it's a Sprint. Not that that matters anyway, because you flashed a raphael hard spl onto a rhodium. Despite the similar brand name, they're completely different phones. I suppose you could spend some time trying to flash the proper rhodium-cdma hard spl (if it exists), but my guess is that you won't save the phone. Or, if you can get ahold of a stock (not reconstructed) sprint rom, try flashing it (make sure it's a TP2 rom, not a TP rom). The fact that the bootscreen was stuck on 0% says to me that you may have a little hope. Have you removed the battery for a while, then tried turning on the power or soft resetting? If that doesn't work, go to the flashing.
Well that pretty much sums it up for me...Why does the tutorial say that if it has a sims card then its a GSM phone, that was my biggest concern I checked and found a sim card I knew Sprint was CDMA phones but TP2 being and international phone also I thought it was an GSM phone. I guess I will look around try you guys unbricking schemes thanks alot.

Your phone's probably dead, and like petard said, it's not gsm, it's cdma if it's a Sprint. Not that that matters anyway, because you flashed a raphael hard spl onto a rhodium. Ok does CDMA has a tutorial like the GSM?...I will search too thanks
First of all: touch pro 2 is not raphael...so you got that wrong. Second, I have a GSM Raphael and I almost bricked it while trying to install a CDMA ROM but I managed to go into the bootloader and fro there it was easy...Try that yourself and see if it works...
BTW:
It says it clearly:
***THIS TUTORIAL IS FOR THE GSM RAPHAEL'S ONLY!!! DO NOT USE WITH CDMA VERSIONS***
I apologize for the noob error thanks all

There are newer phones coming out that are dual sim-cdma. You use the cdma networks in the US, and then can use pre-paid sim cards abroad (cdma phones are pretty much useless abroad). I guess this is what you have. I have no idea how you flash one of those. You sure you're not confusing the sim card with an sd card?
If you can get into bootloader, you may be ok. But it sounds like you can't, so I suspect the phone is toast. The problem with flashing the wrong hard spl is that you now have an spl that doesn't work properly, and it also can't be over-written. The spl boots up the phone, but it also controls rom upgrades. So, it doesn't work, it can't be over-written, and it won't allow you to flash anything new. That's a bad place to be.

Dang, sorry about your woes. Funny, with the craziness of the HSPL for your phone coming out any time now, I just did what you did! Yeah, and I'm not really a noob either. lmao!! My TP2 didn't brick, I just got an error message. Lucky?
Tell us what happens when you try to turn your phone on...

I just bricked mine.. It was a Sprint Duel mode CDMA TP2.. i was tired and loaded the wrong file.. it all loaded fine.. then reboot, and black screen.. no power, no nothing.. now what..??
sadly
Same Goes for me have a Sprint TP2 and used the wrong cdma or gsm rom or spl not sure happened about a month ago been keeping it as a paper weight...Hold Power button (Top left) and vol. down at the same time let go of power button keep holding vol down does nothing..Power button alone does nothing..Plug it in and the charging light goes on then I assume battery is fully charged the light goes off... pc doesn't detect it mtty.exe doesn't pick it up when i put it on usb..
Bottom line..Its a $200 paper weight with a keyboard now?
Makes you worry when people have £500 + phones and they just jump in and brick there phones, all the info is provided just takes a day or so to read, read again then do it again....

US Cellular Touch Pro 2 working on ATT?

Hi, I am sort of new here but I know enough to get around on what I need to do, but I am at a stand still...
I bought a US Cellular Touch Pro 2 from Ebay which was "unlocked" supposedly, but my ATT phone card does nothing in it, I can get digital roaming but ATT will not work on the phone.
So my question is, what are the needed steps in order to get my Touch Pro 2 to get working on the ATT network. As far as I know the Security is not unlocked.
Thanks ahead of time,
if you need any other information please ask =D
-Cyanide
Note: I bought an unlock code from Ebay earlier, but since it says its unlocked I cant use the code, unless there is another way to use that code.
if im right and some1 here can correct me if im not. i think u have to sim unlock it for it to work.
My US Cell TP2 came SIM unlocked
Same as above, my us cell tp2 came sim unlocked also
I just got one from ebay, and I had to security unlock it and install appropriate radio to get it working on at&t
Will any of the GSM labeled AT&T work or is there one that's best?
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=549939
will it work with umts 850????
do you know if someone got it working????
I just bought three of these off ebay that were 'unlocked'
yes it says 'your phone is sim unlocked' in the security tab but my ATT cards are not working
someone mentioned adding software or something. can someone please show me how to do this asap. we kinda counted on having the phones today.
i bought a us cellular on ebay as well. had to security unlock it. Got code from this site and then bought from olipro. this should help.
http://rhodiumw.htc-unlocks.com/
http://pocketnow.com/tweaks-hacks/unlock-the-sprint-touch-pro2-radio-to-get-us-gsm
the first one you have to but then the second link you need to watch to get the imei number before you buy unlock stuff. hope this helps. trin to give back what i learned.
There are two different kinds of SIM Unlocks
There is the stock SIM unlock which allows you to use the sim card for other countries. You click on settings, and sim management and it says the sim is unlocked. However, that does not mean that you can use it with ATT or TMobile here in the united states. Reboot your phone and you will most likely see that your radio says something like 2.10.00WF The WF is what is screwin you over with ATT. You need to pay for and use the SIM unlock from Olipro, (there are tons of links already for it.) and unlock the phone. Then put a WU radio on it. I find that the best one that works for USCC is the 1.96.10WU Radio. It has the least amount of DATA crashes. Hope that helps ya out a bit.

weird. olinex recomended the 2.32.00wu radio over all the others. but seeing as how my data connection never wants to stay open, maybe i will give that one a try.
Ok so i got the paid unlocking tool and ran it. it appears to have worked.
I then went to this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=578659
and installed both the us cellular and sprint (the first and fourth link).
was that a mistake?
Anyway it doesnt say att when i put in a non active sim card.
is it still ready to use? also when i install the radios should it be in global or gsm mode or does it matter?

YOU SHOULD BE BANNED FOR TROLLING AND MAKING FALSE STATEMENTS! YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT!...
Why don't you go ahead buy a CDMA TP2 phone and flash a GSM radio or ROM, go ahead. And make someone record your face and the device. Let's see how you enjoy turning a working phone into a black death piece of hardware that will not respond or do anything.
You better delete your post before someone that doesn't know any better follow your misguided advice and brick their phone!
@DaveNavy,
Read up a bit on this device before advising people. Flashing a GSM rom on a native CDMA device (RhodiumW) is the best and fastest way to end up with a brick. Please make sure about these things before you post anything like this again.
@ all,
Please stop the flaming right here.

You bricked it. I would search the forums carefully and maybe some of the chefs or better experts than myself can give you some suggestions.
I don't want to "rub salt in the wound" but there were numerous warnings posted across the forums about not installing a GSM ROM onto a CDMA phone (and vice-versa):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=616537&highlight=brick+phone+gsm+cdma
I wish you the best of luck un-bricking your phone. Worst case scenario, take it back to USCC and say "it's broke".
Dude,
CDMA and GSM devices have COMPLETELY different hardware. The radios are not compatible at all. A hard lesson learned. Hopefully you can get it replaced and start over. I highly recommend rereading the stickies here and/or on PPCGeeks that talk about hardSPL unlocking, unlocking, relocking, flashing, radio flashing, etc before you do anything to your next device.

[Q] Unlocked D2G Working On TMobile US But Questions Remain

Hi,
I'm actually not new to XDA, I 've been a member for about 3 years and used to screw with my old broken HTC G1 all kinds of ways. So ignore the newbie status, I forgot all the old login info and had to re-roll.
Anyway, so now I have a sweet shiny Droid 2 Global that I bought off a ebay for a very nice $149 buy it now in used but excellent condition.
It was listed as unlocked and obviously indeed is because I am running it on Tmobile with a tmob simcard in Dallas, tx. So, I can make calls, internet works and is ok but only on edge (2G), signal is generally pretty good overall.
My questions (after days of searching and reading up, don't tell me to search) Are these:
1. Am I already band unlocked? I can already use tmob's edge/2g, and I can see AT&T's 2g and 3g networks when I search but I can't connect to them or they don't work if I do i'm guessing because i'm on a tmobile sim and obviously can't logon to at&t.
2. If it isn't band unlocked, would doing so unlock tmobile's 3g or is that just straight up not compatible and never going to happen with or without a band unlock?
3. If not with tmobile np, can I get 3g with at&t? Especially since I already can see their 3g network when searching.
4. Wether or not I am running a custom rom or the stocker....
It says it's running 2.4.330 A956.verizon.en.us kernel android version 2.2 kernel version 2.6.32.9 build number VZW
Not sure if this is the stocker or a pre-installed XDA Rom. It boots to a clockwork recovery tool screen too before actually booting into android. Is that something added on or is it on the phone already?
Thanks in advance for any help, so happy to have a badass new phone to screw with.
1. Sure seems like it. You wouldn't be able to use the T-Mobile SIM at all otherwise.
2. T-Mobile uses 1700MHz. The D2G does not support 1700MHz. Period.
3. Yes.
4. 2.4.330 is stock Motorola Froyo firmware.
In your case it would probably be better to SBF your phone to 2.4.29 or 2.4.330, and follow the instructions in the band unlock thread to get you to Gingerbread with band unlock.

I would be very careful with doing an SBF to an unlocked phone. An SBF would rewrite the radio firmware and very likely undo the unlocking that's in place.
The only way that it would be safe to do so is if he still had the unlock code, then he could just re-unlock and re-apply the band unlocker after SBF'ing.
Thanks for the replies. So I guess i'm looking at switching carriers at some point for the 3g. Honestly the 2g isn't that bad though. Plus I heard that since att failed to acquire tmobile, they ended up cutting some deal to share some att tech with tmobile. So some areas will get 1900 mhz 3g at some point. Probably won't happen to me but oh well.
As for the rom, I don't think I want to update just yet. I have no unlock code since it came that way already.
If I get a code though, since it's already unlocked and rooted (i'm assuming),
Do I just toss the sbf file on an sdcard and run the update? I've installed roms on my old G1 but I don't know the exact process on the D2G yet.

SBF files are something else completely. SBF files contain images for every aspect of the phone, from Radios, to the operating system, kernel, and more. Think of an SBF file as a Windows CD. It helps to wipe the entire system clean and installs everything factory fresh.
SBF files reside on your hard drive, and they are flashed to the phone with a Windows app called RSD Lite. The current version is 5.6. There are links to it everywhere around the forums.

Not sure if you read my post at all.
I stated that the safest bet is to perform everything from the start, including the band unlock process.
Why the hell would someone need the unlock code at all on a device that was already SIM unlocked?
I bought my phone off eBay, unlocked, and I have no SIM unlock code stored anywhere. I SBF'd it at least 20 times by now.

Well in this case, this is good knowledge to have. I presumed that an SBF would essentially erase a SIM Unlock because it rewrites essentially every bit of data stored in the phone.
Looks like there's something else going on in these phones when they get SIM unlocked. It's nice to know that SIM unlocks are truly permanent.
I am getting a prompt now for the new OTA update. Will this be safe to do in my phone's current state then? I just keep putting it off for now because I don't want to lose any of the sim unlock or my data ability.
I know it doesn't do much, but I think it might help my battery life which drains 90% every day with only very light use and only 2g data.
It appears that I am going to be stuck on tmobile until 2013 but I can probably deal, or trade it... So I want it to be the best it can be without being fast on data obviously.
SIM lock state doesn't change.
If you're on T-Mobile USA, you definitely have the US band unlock hack performed and if you update you will lose it with no way to rollback to 2.4.x baseband.
90% battery spent per day is normal for Froyo. I get 26 to 32 hours with light use on 3G with WiFi and GPS enabled on stock 4.5.608, used to get 16 hours on 2.4.330.
Hmm, well can I flash the new one. I was reading this earlier:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1437177
Would that do the trick?
Otherwise, is there a way to stop it from promting me from updating?
If you flash the 4.5.608 SBF image, you'll lose your US band unlock.
To disable OTA:
Rename /system/app/BlurUpdater_VZW.apk, /system/app/BlurUpdater_VZW.odex, and /system/etc/security/otacerts.zip by adding .bak to their names (e.g. otacerts.zip.bak).
Ok, I will rename those for now. I was using Astro and it said permissions no allowing me to rename so so I am going to try another browser app.
So is there nothing I can do to get this update done and get back on tmobileusa? There's a way to band unlock it again isn't there?
How many times needs one to repeat that
USA GSM BAND UNLOCK IS ONLY SUPPORTED ON THE BASEBAND FIRMWARE THAT COMES WITH 2.4.29 AND 2.4.330 FIRMWARE
?
Well that's retarded, thanks motorola/verizon for steering me away from ever purchasing one of you phones again. Looks like I will be trading or selling my phone after all. I had an offer to trade for a samsung vibrant which can be flashed to gingerbread and has a bigger, nicer looking amoled screen that I think I will go ahead and do that. Way to screw up your customer base motorola. I USED to like you guys.
Did you mean: “OMG I'm a US GSM user and I wanted to use a Motorola CDMA handset made exclusively for Verizon on my GSM network and Motorola are such jerks because they won't let me”?

Seriously. I have no idea why he's being such a big baby about this. The phone was designed to Verizon's specifications by Motorola. It was designed to not work with Tmo/ATT from the very start. This was known by everyone at the time of the phone's release.
We were lucky in the first place to even get the ATT/Tmo hack. If someone isn't willing to put in the work to accommodate the requirements of the hack then this phone isn't for you.

I'm not, man. I already know why this is and have known since about 5 posts ago. BTW I bought this phone off of ebay a month ago and it was 'listed as unlocked for att&t, tmobile etc' WTF am I supposed to think when I read that? Stop projecting your in-depth knowledge onto all people like it's 'common' knowledge. It's not. That's like saying I should know Obama's favorite food or whatever the hell else for example. I don't know that nor do the vast vast vast majority of people. You know who does know that? Somebody who looked it up!
The only way somebody would know that this phone is locked out of tmob's 3g is by looking that up specifically. I would like to point out that I had the phone for at least a week prior to posting at all, all the while reading up on how to get my 3g before the kind folks on the 1st page answered the final question I had about that (which is the only way I know that now). So it took at least a week of researching to discover this.... We should really close and lock this thread since it's just wasting space with my displeasure about this phone purchase. $5 says this whole ordeal is the very reason the guy was selling the phone in the first place!! (He said he was currently using it on tmobile when I asked if it was unlocked for tmob...)
