1080p capture for Infuse, just GSMArena wishful thinking? - Samsung Infuse 4G

http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_infuse_4g_goes_to_canada_with_gingerbread_flavor-news-2766.php
GSMArena is saying that the Infuse will be able to do 1080p capture solely based on the Canadian site listing "full HD" as a spec. Would be great, but I'm s(k/c)eptical, and full HD could mean almost anything...

They are also labeling it a Galaxy S device, where i have never seen that labeling for the phone anywhere else...
my bologna has a first name, its G-S-M-a-r-e-n-a....

maybe it is a Galaxy S device outside of the states, as the original Galaxy S II will be launching with AT&T...

Look at the best buy ad for this Sunday. It says that the infuse does 1080p recording. HAHA!

it is online isnt it???
EDIT: nope its not. they have it right on their web page though

well the original add in january said "1080P video" or something, the tab can record in 1080p so there was no reason to think the infuse wouldnt at the time. samsung didnt release official specs but phone arena is lame for not updateing with the actually specs. those sites are often speculating but should correct themselves. i recently saw the sgs2 specs on that site list the processor as "Dual-core XMM6260, 1200 MHz" that's funny because it might come with an exenos orion processor or a tegra 2 depending on the market. the number phone areana litsted is an intel made radio for hspa+! how did they get that as a processor?

the camera sensor is the exact same as the one in the galaxy s2. i believe they just disabled the 1080p option in the camera settings. they probably had a framerate issue with this having a slower processor. maybe itll be added back with the gingerbread update or we might be able to pull the camera software from the s2 and slap it on ours.

i believe the tab can do 1080p recording, same processor, same ram, more screen resolution to hog cpu power supporting the view finder and less cpu frequency, im pretty sure the infuse has the potential. also the sensor has less to do with it than you think. for instance 1080P resolution is only about 2.1mp. they probably just dont feal like the infuse needs 1080p recrding, if people knew it could do it then why would they buy a dual core phone? the actual functionality difference between a hummingbird and a tegra is minimal actually there are many things the hummingbird does better! and with less ram at that! if the infuse gave you everything then why buy a sgs2?

what tab are you talking about? both the samsung galaxy tab original and 10.1 come with 3mp. the original could only record at 480p and the 10.1 at 720p. the original came with a 1ghz hummingbird and the 10.1 comes with a tegra 2.

ok maybe I'm wrong. I thout I saw an discussion that, said the 7 in tab could do 1080p recording a long time ago, people wondered if we could get that on the captivate. could be more phone areana mis information.

Acer F1 full review - 1Ghz Snapdragon

After many searches in google, i have finally found a review (made by [email protected]) of Acer´s 1 ghz Snapdragon pocketpc.
It seems a good (and cheaper) competitor to HTC Leo and Toshiba TG01...
Original in russian

Tri-Band HSDPA including ATT 850 ?? Can that be right ?
Wow! the SPB benchmark index numbers are much better than the Leo. Very impressive on Acer's part.
Acer F1 (Leo)

File system index

Hopefully the Leo's performance will increase when beta testing of the software is complete

Hmm, as someone not very familiar with SPB Benchmark software, would anyone mind telling me if having an increase of 400-500 points is a significant improvement or is it in actuality just a small improvement?

I wouldn't say it's significant, but enough for you to take notice. Another thing to be aware is the fact that (i think) the released TG01 has OGLES2.0 software whereas the Leo in beleforte's testing was a OGLES1.1. Once the Leo is released with the final software, I'm sure both of their numbers will be somewhat identical as they run on the same hardware.

Thanks for posting this link chocula81 - I'd been looking everywhere for a review. I guess your Google skills are much better than mine.
I'm seriously tempted by this phone as it's so much cheaper here in the UK than the Omnia II, not to mention the TG01 and the Leo. More importantly, it's available right now too!
I think the lack of short term support is going to make me wait though, especially as it seems to lack a reasonable TouchFlo alternative.
I hope Acer sell a truck load of these at HTC's expense so that the latter has to drop their sim free prices ; )

I see. Thank you very much.
Acer NeoTouch vs. HD2 I can see how there can be a comparison...but after watching both videos the HD2 is far and away the better phone for its lack of windows screens (ugly white screens with text aka SMS page) and its responsiveness. You clearly see the difference between Capacitive and Resistive screens if anything during the slide to unlock sequences. Both phones are running snapdragon and it still seemed like the HD2 was light years ahead in terms of fluidity of the total device. But I will say, for the price the NeoTouch is one helluva device, and if this site backed it, it would be a powerhouse of a device
Expansys usa added 100+ acer f1 to there stock, il be buying one very soon.
Edit: i miss read and also call them, they said they will have 100+ acer f1 in stock in 6 days or more ><, guess il have to wait.

Nexus S 345MB Ram ?

Hello,
Can anyone please explain the situation.
There are only 345 MB of total ram available.
Is this same for you all Nexus S owners too? Shouldn't it be 512 MB?
I'm using CM7 Nightly #18.
I noticed this before, but I didn't care about it. However an explanation could be better.

I think the additional ram is fornthe OS. The 345 is what is available for apps.
the others 177 mb are for the gpu
reserved for gpu
The other RAM is used for the system, graphics, the drivers to run, the launcher, etc.
Hm ok. Thank you all.
Hmm. So why i have 400+ ram on galaxy tab?

Now, I'm not up and up enough on the technical names for processors etc. to say that those aren't the same but to my eyes there is clearly a difference. Not to mention the lack of a cell radio in the Galaxy Tab rendering it not a phone.
Different hardware has different requirements for memory.

People who don't root in the U.S. can't use it as a "phone."
A tablet is a tablet, even if it can make and receive calls, its not a phone.
In this case, I might as well call my computer a "phone" because I can make calls via Google Mail Voice.

There could be a range of different factors that can make that happen.
1. The amount of gpu reserved memory is set as a boot kernel parameter. So the galaxy could have less memory reserved for the gpu.
2. The galaxy could have dedicated gpu ram, instead of shared from the main memory. That's the best guess, since it's a bigger device with more room for hardware components.
3. Could also have less reserved memory at boot and the drivers/libs could use some of the user space memory.
The list go on.

Actually, no, he didn't. He is in fact not the OP of this thread. A tablet is a tablet, not a phone. If it were a phone, they'd have called it a phone. 'A rose by any other name..' Call it a phone, it's still a tablet. This thread is about RAM and there not being 512mb as per usual. I've learned my lesson about throwing out unnecessary insults, perhaps you would do well to learn the same?

about the processor, it's the same with my galaxy ACE, but mine runs at 800 MHz (default). if u checked at pdadb.net, those series will have default clock at 600 MHz, i doubt if it can run on 1 Ghz
the rest of specs are the same with galaxy ace

Is that a USB key in your pocket or a dual-core computer? Today, Norwegian company FXI technologies showed off a USB stick-sized portable computer prototype, complete with a dual-core 1.2-GHz Samsung Exynos ARM CPU (same as in the Galaxy S II), 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, HDMI-out and a microSD card slot for memory. Codenamed Cotton Candy because its 21 gram weight is the same as a bag of the confection, the tiny PC enables what its inventor calls “Any Screen Computing,” the ability to turn any TV, laptop, phone, tablet, or set-top box into a dumb terminal for its Android operating system.

The Cotton Candy also runs arm compatible versions of Linux, and is said to be compatible with Windows 8 ARM.
Thoughts? I think this would be great for low end computer replacement, or a small gaming system for emulators along side a bluetooth controller and a 32gb memory card. Even a small media center hub for your TV, download Netflix, Hulu, video apps, or whatever streaming and media apps you want and boom, HTPC right there.

Apparently it's a portable Exynos soc, so it won't be that hard to port ICS to that little bad boy when Samsung pushes the update for the GS2.
I'm thinking win8 with arm support to be a real PC

I hate this reviews when they don't leave the video running when they are doing the benchmark. I don't care about the results, I want to see with my eyes how each device performs. I'm one of those caring how the test is running on both devices and I would like to see the GLBenchmark running in comparison on the 2 devices. I've not seen a single video with the whole benchmark, with the fps readable, only some videos recorded with a pen (at 5x10 resolution). Do the whole review without cutting it or don't spend the space on youtube !

If the R is the one on the right, I vote for it ! It's much sharper and clear than RS. Between I9500 and I9505 I've seen no differences in photos, I think both are same...just my 2 cents opinion.

You are a minority my friend, a purist maybe, someone who needs all the info and is willing to sit thro 45 mins of a video , 9/10 ppl would not watch a 45 min video... just check out my s4 review (29 mins long) and see how many ppl ask me to cut it down in the comments...

I al waiting for my S4 mate. I'm waiting for the 32 gigs version, but I'll try that code when I'm getting it.
Your image is not working btw
@ashwin123 : that's pretty stupid, because those asking to cut the video can just forward it. That's why YouTube invented that timeline of the videos. There is no complete GLBenchmark for I9500. I think owners of this one are just trying to hide how bad the test is. I asked somebody half of month ago to do the test and he replied : in getting same results like everyone, 12fps, but he posted no video of it.
