[FIX] GPS locking - Verizon Droid Charge

I noticed my GPS was not locking at all after the EE4 update.... Download the GPS testing app off the market power off power back on run the app and you should have instant lock. Automagically fixed.
Hope this helps.

Awesome. Thanks for the tip!

Beware... this app bricks captivate and other galaxy s device sometimes

There is an app called gps aids that I have tried to use and it never was able to fully work. All of a sudden it fully works and gave me an instant lock once I used it. It requires root access but it helped me out today.
Edit: This app is amazing, in 15 seconds or less I get locked on to 9/9 satellites. Before I ran this it would usually see around 9 but only use 4 or so and it could take awhile or never even lock on. It is free in the market but if my gps continues to work well with the app I will be buying the paid version for sure.

helped some

The app GPSTest (if that is what you are referring to) locks onto many satellites quickly.
However, when i leave the application screen, my GPS icon remains lit in my status bar and task manager does not show the app running whether it is or not. When I uninstalled it, the GPS icon in the status bar went away.

Worked perfectly for me on stock EE4, no root.
I was grumbling earlier when I went on my afternoon walk/jog and GPS was refusing to work - I assumed the update had broken it...
FYI: I used the "GPS Test" app from Chartcross Limited.

I installed the "GPS Test" app from Chartcross Limited powered off and back on, but still sees 0. Am I missing something?

+1 same issue
anyone? ................
my google maps works, this only happens on my google navigation GPS thing
did you clear app data>uninstall>reinstall?
i dont care for google nav any way, it seem problematic on the captivate. a few times it worked perfectly and other times it causes the gps to crash on some roms. on others the positioning becomes eratic one trip not the next. the most stable my gps has been on a nav program is with navdroyd.
I was noticing the same problem when Google maps did a recent update. Try going into the market place and uninstall the update. If that doesn't work try upgrading to a 2.2.1 rom like Preception or Darky's. When I went from a 2.2 to a 2.2.1 it seemed to fix the problem.
I was having this problem with navigation. It stopped after I went into places and did a navigate from there. After that I could go into navigation without the issue.

I also did something similar to this. Instead of Places, i picked a random location from within Google Maps (long press) and then chose to navigate to it. Worked fine after that.

GPS not working

it takes 7min for GPS to find my location...any help
Verizon/HTC update should have fixed this lock-on issue. Go to settings and check for an update. Might take awhile to get since its a rolling update

man my gps is still off before and after update but it locks on quickly tho
I don't get it... my GPS seemed to work fine before the OTA... now I can't get a lock for the life of me - whether I'm outside or inside...
When I load up Maps, the Wifi or Cell location finds me fine... but when I try to get a GPS lock, forget about it. The map icon and GPS icon just keep blinking - forever. Correct me if I'm but with a GPS lock, those 2 icons will stop blinking.
Navigation takes nearly 15 mins to lock on... None of the suggested fixes have worked.. nor am I rooted so I can't go and change the gpsconfig file...
I'm in NYC so I'm assuming the buildings have an effect on getting the GPS lock...

Same here. Before the OTA my GPS was fine. Sure it might take 30-60 seconds to get a lock if I've had the GPS radio off for a while, but once it locked it worked great and would re-lock quickly in the future. Now, I keep dropping GPS signal while using it, and using the GPS Test app shows it's not getting a good signal or locking on to as many sats as it was before. Clearing the A-GPS data and downloading the list seems to help, a little, but it's temporary. (Stock, unrooted)
Try GPS Status and Toolbox from the Market.

I wouldn't call it worthless - it did fix a few things like video cam sound and 3G<=>4G transitions, but there are certainly some lingering problems.

I've tried that about 20 times now... never got a GPS lock by using that app. I use to the app to reset it, then download the data... nothing. What else needs to be done while using that app?
Disabling VZW Location Services has helped my situation dramatically. I tried using GPS status tricks to no avail.
I did this yesterday and now I get GPS locks at roughly 3 seconds.
May not work for everyone but it's worth a shot.

That's all I did. If I open Google Maps, I'll lock in less than five seconds within 100-ish feet, and lock spot-on in another five-10 seconds.
(Currently running das BAMF 1.6 Debloat / 1.16.00.0402w_1 baseband (new radio) / Adryn 4.3a kernel.)
Before the OTA it was taking me 30-60 seconds to get a lock. Now it's not unusual for me to lock in 5-6 seconds.

Same here, just didn't notice the OTA turned VZW LS back on. Turning that off again flat out cured all of my lock timing issues. It's insanely different now, back to what I was used to before the OTA.

[Q] CM7 Slow GPS locks on cold locks, AGPS download does nothing?

My GPS locks but its slow to lock on cold locking. Also if i use GPS status and download AGPS data I don't think it downloads anything and makes no difference to lock speed. Is there any way to debug or fix this? I am on CM7 nightlies.
Sometimes even on the roof of my building with clear sky view in all directions it will take a LONG time to lock from cold boot. I think AGPS is broken?
Try downloading mapquest it works perfectly for me instant lock google maps works once in a while.
Use waze!!!

Ok, here's what I do which works every time:
1. Open GPS Status and let it Dl the data
2. Restart phone
3. Re-open GPS status and get a lock in a few seconds, if that.
4. Open maps and do what I need to do.
And for the record I'm using Euroskank's nightly.
I use public transportation and usually have a few different ways to get where I need to so if I'm out, say at work, and need to get home I need to be able to bust out with maps and get the info i need and since I either read or am doing something on my phone, I prefer to have maps scream at me to get off at the next stop so I don't miss my stop.

[Q] Exhausted all options

Hello,
I have been struggling with this issue forever. I am using my Google nav app and all of a sudden it freezes barely updating with CPU @100%. I have tried different options using 3g instead of 4g, not using bluetooth, not starting nav when CPU is busy nothing has worked. All of a sudden either at the start or during a navigation session the CPU will go up to 100% and the app will stop updating and if I am driving I left without directions until I reboot. Huge headache. I used different system monitors like 'WatchDog Lite' and 'System Tuner' and those apps say that the most CPU consuming process during that time period is 'Android System Process'. I have no clue as to what 'Android System Process' is doing during that period of time except it is taking a large amount of CPU.
Only option left is to overclock, upgrade to a faster CPU from Verizon or go to Apple IPhone
That's strange, I used the navigation all the time without a problem, besides slow locks. Have you tried clearing the app data, sounds like its the app itself misbehaving.

I haven't had an issue like that and its definitely abnormal. Have you tried installing a ROM like Tweaked or a kernel like PBJ?
Sent from my SCH-I510 using xda premium
I had the same problem before I rooted and installed my first ROM. No problems since then. Recommend you root, install Tweeked or Eclipse and PBJ, also don't undervolt too much. You're headache should stop. I haven't had that happen to me in long long time. I'm a truckdriver and use the maps quite often.
Sent from my SCH-I510 using XDA
I had the same problem star up all of a sudden a month or two ago. Google maps would just close by itself, and nav would freeze while driving. While messing around one day, I ended up having to wipe my phone and ODIN stock, re root, and put Tweaked 2.1 ROM on it again, and restore all my backed up apps. To my pleasant surprise Google maps and nav are working flawlessly now.
Sent from my SCH-I510 using XDA
I have been partially able to fix the problem. One I downloaded Copilot Live as a navigation app which uses offline maps instead of downloading maps on the fly like google nav. However, still my phone used to lag close to 20-30 seconds when I would go to my home screen and similarly when I went to my application lists. I was using Seepu so I could see that my CPU was at 100% all the time. This led me to believe that there might be an issue with my SDCard and hence I downloaded sdbooster https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.mehrmann.sdbooster&hl=en .
I saw an amazing performance improvement after I set the cache size to 8192 mb and the lags all but disappeared. However, still when I am on my home screen it sometimes lags 5 seconds which is still infuriating. What the heck is it doing, is it reading apps from the disk?

Question Samsung S22 Ultra GPS problem

Hi
I am having an issue with my UK based Samsung S22 Ultra. The GPS stops working on it, no map app can use GPS until I restart the phone and then it starts working again.
I found this thread on the samsung.com which seems to other users having the same issue.
S22 Ultra problems with GPS
No GPS signal, but my Note 9 had no problems!
eu.community.samsung.com
I've tried turning location services on and off and setting performance to maximum but still the same issue persists. Would be very grateful for any ideas
Thanks
Imran
Wouldn't be the first time, Was it the note10 there was a Issue when device went to 5G it would kill the GPS and i would not reconnect without a reboot.
Only a few experienced the issue, myself included. It took way more effort than what it was worth to log it with samsung and for them to admit there is a fault and they are looking to patch it in the next update.
Yes, remember hearing about the note 10. This seems slightly different
After a period of inactivity, and the GPS stops working. After a restart it works again.....Really disappointing.
I can confirm the same issue. Only assisted GPS works (i.e. when near wifi/bluetooth devices), but pure GPS sensors don't work until restart.
check permissions for GPS for trashy apps and block it all, allow for Gmaps or gps test app only. reboot and test again.
Same problem here...
From another forum (Haven't tried it myself)
Quick fix is to have installed the GPS Status & Toolbox app (the icon looks like an orange satellite antenna in a corner of a grey square) , once opened is not going to find any GPS signal...of course.
But if you open Menu (upper left corner, tap screen once to reveal it) then go to Manage A-GPS, it will pop a window A-GPS XTRA Data with 3 options RESET, CANCEL and DOWNLOAD. Press RESET and in a couple of seconds the GPS signal is back without the need to restart your phone.

Doesn't work for me.
Same here. Uk exynos. Gps only is all over the place. Poor fixing. Google maps location sits grey for an eternity. If I put WiFi on it jumps to my correct location but gps only is really bad
Really strange, which apps are you using that kill your GNSS?
My S22U Exynos gets some satellites even indoors (my Note 10 not) and with Orux, GPSTest and YGPS I can stop and use it several times and it keeps working again.
The accuracy is good, the only thing is the accuracy when logging with the display off (but this another topic from another thread).
Disable all power management... destroyer of worlds.
Try clearing the system cache.
Easy fixes if they work... many times they do.
I have the same problem, after a few hours the GPS signal stops working.
I tried using the GPS Test app and it can't find any satellite, Google Maps says "GPS search in progress" and it stays that way.
From recovery I tried to do a cache reset and an app repair but it didn't help.
If I restart the phone the GPS works perfectly, GPS Test app finds 30 satellites immediately, after a few hours it stops working again.
I remember reading about this on a Samsung Korean forum. Seems to be a known issue which I hope Samsung can fix with a software update. The first time it happened I got lost and ended up going 20 miles out of my route because the damned thing gave me the impression that it was working after initially saying "GPS signal lost" and I just carried on. A reboot fixed it but I don't know if/when it will happen again.
I have received a second March update since then so fingers crossed that Samsung have fixed the issue.

So it is not about starting different location apps several times? Is it just a question of time and suddenly it stops working?

That's right, after a few hours the GPS stops working and to make it work again you have to restart the phone.

It's likely either power management, an incorrect setting or a 3rd party app.
Try safe mode.
Look for what apk cache register when it happens, guilt by association to catch it.
My issue of location sitting grey in google maps. I found if I shut down maps and immediately reopened my location would turn blue straight away.
I have since uninstalled the maps update and now get blue location almost immediately every time I open maps.

Have you tried with programs like "GPS TEST" to see if it finds the satellites?
When the phone restarts the GPS works but after several hours the GPS stops working until the phone is restarted.
I have a 6 hour long drive coming up in a week. Is the best workaround for this issue for now to restart the phone every hour or so? I damn well don't want to get lost
