[Q] CM7 Slow GPS locks on cold locks, AGPS download does nothing? - T-Mobile LG G2x

My GPS locks but its slow to lock on cold locking. Also if i use GPS status and download AGPS data I don't think it downloads anything and makes no difference to lock speed. Is there any way to debug or fix this? I am on CM7 nightlies.
Sometimes even on the roof of my building with clear sky view in all directions it will take a LONG time to lock from cold boot. I think AGPS is broken?

Try downloading mapquest it works perfectly for me instant lock google maps works once in a while.

Use waze!!!

Ok, here's what I do which works every time:
1. Open GPS Status and let it Dl the data
2. Restart phone
3. Re-open GPS status and get a lock in a few seconds, if that.
4. Open maps and do what I need to do.
And for the record I'm using Euroskank's nightly.
I use public transportation and usually have a few different ways to get where I need to so if I'm out, say at work, and need to get home I need to be able to bust out with maps and get the info i need and since I either read or am doing something on my phone, I prefer to have maps scream at me to get off at the next stop so I don't miss my stop.

Gps Maps VS Nav?

I have noticed that when i try and find my position with google maps. i have issues. However, its a million times better with nav. Am i having gps problems or what? any1 else thinking they have problems try the nav program.
I have issues with NAV. It seems to take FOREVER to get a fix on my position and i'm in a car with a sunroof and it's open (not that it should matter).
I got some hokey answer from HTC support saying to clear the Google Maps cache, turn off the phone, remove battery, and then put it all back together and turn it back on.
Oddly this seems to temporarily solve the problem but then it reoccurs. So it's not really the answer.
I had noticed the same thing. With mine I could get a quick fix going into navigation from.the car home but not going into maps or navigation directly. Have you downloaded the app gps stat? It has helped a lot with mine, now I get a quick lock no matter what

GPS not working

it takes 7min for GPS to find my location...any help
Verizon/HTC update should have fixed this lock-on issue. Go to settings and check for an update. Might take awhile to get since its a rolling update

man my gps is still off before and after update but it locks on quickly tho
I don't get it... my GPS seemed to work fine before the OTA... now I can't get a lock for the life of me - whether I'm outside or inside...
When I load up Maps, the Wifi or Cell location finds me fine... but when I try to get a GPS lock, forget about it. The map icon and GPS icon just keep blinking - forever. Correct me if I'm but with a GPS lock, those 2 icons will stop blinking.
Navigation takes nearly 15 mins to lock on... None of the suggested fixes have worked.. nor am I rooted so I can't go and change the gpsconfig file...
I'm in NYC so I'm assuming the buildings have an effect on getting the GPS lock...

Same here. Before the OTA my GPS was fine. Sure it might take 30-60 seconds to get a lock if I've had the GPS radio off for a while, but once it locked it worked great and would re-lock quickly in the future. Now, I keep dropping GPS signal while using it, and using the GPS Test app shows it's not getting a good signal or locking on to as many sats as it was before. Clearing the A-GPS data and downloading the list seems to help, a little, but it's temporary. (Stock, unrooted)
Try GPS Status and Toolbox from the Market.

No it didn't. The update was worthless.

I wouldn't call it worthless - it did fix a few things like video cam sound and 3G<=>4G transitions, but there are certainly some lingering problems.

I've tried that about 20 times now... never got a GPS lock by using that app. I use to the app to reset it, then download the data... nothing. What else needs to be done while using that app?
Disabling VZW Location Services has helped my situation dramatically. I tried using GPS status tricks to no avail.
I did this yesterday and now I get GPS locks at roughly 3 seconds.
May not work for everyone but it's worth a shot.

That's all I did. If I open Google Maps, I'll lock in less than five seconds within 100-ish feet, and lock spot-on in another five-10 seconds.
(Currently running das BAMF 1.6 Debloat / 1.16.00.0402w_1 baseband (new radio) / Adryn 4.3a kernel.)
Before the OTA it was taking me 30-60 seconds to get a lock. Now it's not unusual for me to lock in 5-6 seconds.

Try this:
open google maps or navigate and navigate to some address
Open dialer
type ##GPSCLRX#
hit send
GPS should lock right away

go to the dialer, type ##778#, call, edit, password is 000000, modem settings, Rev A, Enable

Same here, just didn't notice the OTA turned VZW LS back on. Turning that off again flat out cured all of my lock timing issues. It's insanely different now, back to what I was used to before the OTA.

GPS Problems?

I've tried this fix http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1308297 and the one that uses bloater but my gps never seems to be able to lockon immediately or within a reasonable time frame. It was a bit wonky at first but after trying the first fix it just got worse. Are there any fix that actually works? Running on Weapon.
updating to the july baseband worked AMAZING for me! before updating i had no GPS locks at all. Then i used the gps fix by Krylon and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1079304 and it at least locked for me within 3-5 minutes, and stayed locked. Now after updating the baseband (simple process btw, just follow the steps) Now rediculously FAST locks, i get blue arrow and voice navigation before the page finishes loading! Hope that helps.

Cannot get GPS to show accurate location

My GS3 is currently running Bean's Custom Rom build 14; was briefly running Jellywiz RLS8 (nice but too buggy for me) and prior to that was stock/rooted/unlocked with the toggle mods and nothing else. I had updated the radio as the new ones came available. Anyhow, some time ago when I was still on the stock Rom, I could no longer get a GPS lock. Prior to that it had worked just fine. So I flashed crypted's "fix" from this thread (tried both the GS3 specific and generic Google builds) and I was able to almost instantaneously get a "lock," which to me meant the GPS icon in the notification bar went to solid.
HOWEVER, I was now showing my location as being outside of Raleigh, NC - I live in Atlanta, GA. With standalone and Google/VZW gps turned on I would get a relatively accurate location (~30 meters) in Maps but a completely wrong location in Foursquare and my weather apps. So I followed Crypted's directions. I tried wiping cache/dalvik, tried modifying RIL in build.prop from 2 to 1, finally tried the solution where I unchecked all three options in Location settings, powered off, battery pull for 30 secs, reboot to recovery, wipe cache and dalvik, reflash his zip file, boot up, enable ONLY standalone GPS and go to nav, put in a destinaton and let it sit outside for 10 mins. After that it FINALLY gave me an accurate standalone GPS location. Problem is, when I rebooted my phone sometime later in the day, the GPS went back to North Carolina and was essentially broken again. Only after repeating the same process from before did I get it to work again, and even at that it takes a good 10 mins for standalone GPS to update my position when change my location. So what the heck is going on here? Clearly GPS is working on the hardware side, if ever so slowly. Anybody have any suggestions? My next step is to Odin all the way back to stock and see if that fixes it, but I'd really prefer not to have to go through all that trouble. Thanks for any suggestions.
Hey anyone with ideas on this? I know the OP was long but the short version is that after every reboot my standalone gps location reverts back to raleigh, north carolina, a place far from me that my phone has never been. Then it takes about 10 minutes of sitting outside w/ navigation on for the phone to get back to an accurate GPS location. I ran GPS Status during that time and noticed the phone is not locking onto any satellites during that time, up until it finally repositions itself accurately.
You can try this one. Works for some that can get lock but get erroneous locations.

Thanks, will give it a shot. Hope the issue is addressed in the next ota.

The fix didn't work for me. We have (4) GS3's in my family and mine is the only one that doesn't get a lock in seconds, even indoors. I finally bit the bullet and am exchanging it...

could synergy have broken my GPS

I have never had any problems with GPS until I installed synergy 290 now I cant get GPS to lock no matter what rom I use I have even odined back to factory right now and still cant get a lock. all location stuff seems to be on. The weird thing is that if I nand back to pure rls12 that i have GPS locks within 1 second but even if I take that rom and try and put purerom 14.1 over top of it I cant get a lock. any tips I have also used the gps app and still nothing
I have heard people having luck with an app called "gps fix".
I haven't had any gps problems, that's all I can offer. I'm sure if that doesn't work, someone else will be able to help more.
Did you try the link that was posted to your question in the rom thread?

would suggest going back into the forum and reading about 40 or so pages back, OR use search in TDA to find "PDroid Fix". it is in there somewhere.
i had a problem with one of the earlier versions with the multi window, but 290 is totally fixed for me.
reflash (can be done dirty) select TrevE's PDroid version
make sure all your location stuff is turned on
open PDroid app, slide down to i think Maps, click on item in upper right corner and select "allow all" (or something like that).
walla walla bing bam, GPS will work. how well depends on your signal, but its all in the forum, just have to read a little.
:cyclops:
Try this.
If you haven't already, download GPS fix, so to settings, clear AGPS and then download it. After that, go to the "Maps" app, clear all data and cache. Assuming you have a custom recovery, boot into it and clear cache and dalvik cache.
I used to have the same issue, and this fixed it.
the weirdest thing is I even odin back to factory and still cant get lock then after i reroot and everyting and nandroid back to my old purerom rls12 it locks instantly. but if i dirty flash to pure 14.1 I cant get gps to lock again
