sent my g2 back for the mt4g and couldnt be happier.
Yep. Still got my nexus one, got the g2 in october only to return it a week later..waited for the mt4g, got that today and pretty impressed with it. aside from the .93 GB of storage space, and bloatware, it's a pretty good phone...so far.

After having too many issues with the G2, I grabbed the MT4G. I'm very much in love with it.

pretty much the size and weight. i found myself not using the slide out keyboard as i thought i would so i thought it would be better to get the mytouch. i was also having battery problems with the g2 and now i wont have to worry about hinge issues either.

I'm coming from a Vibrant, and while I miss the 4" screen, this 3.8" feels just as good in terms of real estate. It's not a Super AMOLED, but the WVGA is very crisp, so I don't feel like there's a loss of quality. On the Vibrant, GPS was an issue and the volume buttons were locked down on most devices, whereas on the MT4G it all works perfectly. Someone above mentioned the size and weight and I think it also feels great in the hand...it feels like metal! Camera quality is nice and uses tap-to-focus. Sound quality from the phone is average and as usual, HTC's speakerphone is tinny and crappy, but I guess there always has to be a compromise. My battery has been depleting a bit quickly but I imagine that will improve a bit as it's exercised, and hopefully moreso if CM gets their hands on it.
After playing with it for a day, it appears that any user will have a great experience with it! I strongly recommend trying it out
What I Like
Speed
Form Factor (size/weight)
Built in camera app (it lets you disable shutter sound!)
Built in facebook app (photo tags, video uploads)
Hands free mode
Desk Dock
Car Dock
Fastboot
HTC Flashlight app
Wi-Fi calling (wife has UMA on her blackberry and it comes in handy for international travel)
Trackpad wake-up (G2 could only wake with power button)
What I Dislike
Apps I can't uninstall.
Hard buttons on bottom. (I liked the G2 soft buttons)
Boxes around icons.
Double unlock needed when using pattern.
Did a mention apps I can't uninstall?

Cool man. I have a g2 and my wife a vibrant. G2 is a little heavy and the vibrant feels like plastic. I guess my main concern is the genius button over the regular search.....

I had a Nexus One before. OMG what a difference. The MT4G is so much faster and the screen is so much more sensitive. It holds better on 3G signal than the N1. What I don't like at the moment is the Sense UI. For somebody who had Stock android this is really confusing. Just a question of time and I become used to it

Yeah, this is something that I thought about as well actually. That search button is one of my main "pimping" tools when I explain the beauty of Android to others. I guess natively there's no way to change its functionality, but I know that Cyanogen ROMs allow it. Guess patience will be a virtue. Also very interesting going from soft buttons at the bottom to physical ones. With my big fingers, it took a little practice to not keep hitting the dock icons at the bottom of Launcher Pro, but still not bad. Nothing that one cannot adapt to.
I've only had the MyTouch 4G for about 8 hours and I'm liking it so far. My biggest complaint really is that there's too much bloatware that I can't uninstall (at least from settings). I'm sure this can be fixed without too much trouble. The phone is bigger and heavier than I expected. It's got a nice sized screen and I really appreciate that it has hard buttons and a more responsive track pad compared to the G2. I haven't heard many complaints from other G2 owners but mine was very unresponsive and pretty much useless- I would have preferred the G1's trackball. I've been spending some time trying to play with the FFC but haven't had much luck. The Qik videos take a while to upload but I read on their site that they are experiencing server problems so hopefully that will be fixed quickly. Not having other friends with FFC's yet, I haven't been able to test it out. The games are pretty fast. TMobile TV's quality isn't great but when I connected to Wifi it became much smoother.
Coming from the G1 to the MT3G to the Nexus one.
Things I like about it.
1. Nice screen size and build quality of the phone.
2. The sense weather and clock widgets
3. More flash memory to install apps.
4. Lots of standard apps that I didn't have to download from the market
5. When I popped in my SIM my screen wallpaper from my nexus one was already loaded (did not put the SD card in from the nexus one)
6. FFC video chat and the media features on the phone are amazing! It came with the music controls on the lock screen.
Things I don't like.
1. All the T-Mobile Bloat wear
2. WiFi calling isn't working for me. (I might go exchange the device tomorrow to see if it helps.)
3. I like sense but only for the clock and the weather widget other than that I miss the plain vanilla firmware.
4. The fact that andriod and the hardware manfuactures keep changing the sequence of the buttoms. I was used to the layout of the nexus one... now I'm trying to relearn the home, and menu key.
Other than I think it is defintly a nice upgrade from the Nexus one. I just wished it had the 4.3+ inch screen and the resolution from the Vibrant.
It's a tough one. I got the G1 the day it came out which started a long loving relationship with Android, rooting, custom roms etc. Got the Nexus One next, then bought the G2. Since I still have a week on my remorse period I switched it for the mytouch today.
After a full day of playing with it I am still not 100% which way to lean. There are 2 things that really put me off about the mytouch
Genius button: the "genius" button is probably the dumbest thing I've ever seen. So is all the bloat ware that comes pre-installed. Granted there are ways to remove (disable rather) unwanted apps using temp root and some scripting but I'd still pick vanilla over mysense any day. You are also gonna get gingerbread pretty much instantly upon release for the G2 whereas there's no guarantee how long it'll take for the mytouch. If you're one for rooting and custom roms and stuff, you'll find a lot more development support for the G2
Hard keys: although the mytouch 4G is a huge step up from previous devises it still feels/looks plasticky in comparison to the Nexus and G2. Putting in soft buttons instead of the plastic hard ones would have made a big difference in my view. These ones just feel painfully cheap in comparison (having used the Nexus for almost a year).
Other than that its a great divice. The front facing camera is not a big factor, tried it out today and have to say even on wifi it rather sucks. But the phone is thin and super fast. And if your not that much into pure android, mysense will probably suit you just fine.
I love that I can wake the phone with the trackpad.

Yeah man that genius button was a real deal breaker for me. And I do see more support on the g2. But the mt4g still looks like a great phone. How's the sense ui? And I think I'm going in store tomorrow to check it out
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
I don't see how the genius button is a deal breaker all in itself. Its a more fleshed out search button and its not like anyone uses the search button all the time.
Personally I'm glad to see something different for once. The myTouch 4G is a truly unique phone.

Was amazingly thin and really didn't seem big for a 4.3". Felt like I was holding a Nexus One. Was a test unit given to a regional rep, but it felt awesome in the hand.
Camera was great. I was informed that it was shipping with Android 2.3 and sense 3.0 by the rep as well.
Been using a G2X for two weeks and I seriously can't stand it, just switched back to my MT4G. Getting a Sensation when it comes out for sure.

Have you - by any chance - ever had a Desire HD so you can compare these two flagships? I'm really wondering if the Sensation is that much of an upgrade. Of course, better hardware, better battery (even though the wake-times on the htc-page are even lower thant the one of the DHD...), nice dual core..
Just wondering.
Great to hear that it has that Nexus One feel. Anyone who's held one knows what a wonderful presence in hand it has.
The G2x has the Tegra 2 going for it, and that's all. Many are having no problems, but many are, not to mention that it just didn't _feel_ right.
I'm looking forward to giving this a shot and hope it'll keep me from buying an SGSII.
thanks for the info and good news
Unfortunately I've never had the chance to handle a Desire HD, I used to own an HD2, and it felt a lot smaller than that.
The mobile gaming with the Tegra 2 is awesome, I'm fairly confident the 1.2ghz chip from Qualcomm will be comparable or perhaps even better, though in the graphics department that is debatable.
Oh well, after trying to use a few devices, I'm still happy with my MT4G, can't stand Galaxy S phones, might be the way they feel. And the G2X just wasn't good.
Good to hear!
I hope HTC upgraded the speaker power this time, DHD and N1 have too quiet volume output even with tweaks.
As for the screen contrast reaching the Arc level will be a very good surprise!
We need something to match super amoled + so qHD with high contrast will be better.
I can not wait for the Sensation! I will trade my truck for one right now! I played with a G2X in a Tmobile store and got ta say I was not impressed, the space from the bottom of the phone to the screen where the soft buttons are, are abnormally BIG!, Made the phone feel qerky! Just doesnt have that HTC feel (Quality)!

The G2x feels like a truck, and it really isn't what I was hoping for. My HTC experience spans quite a few years but the Nexus One has been so good that I'm looking for something like that again.
I get the feeling the Sensation is that phone.
I am going out on a limb here and share my deepest feelings with all of you.
I LOVE my g2x!
There, I said it. I feel a little vulnerable right now... may need a hug.
There is so much anti g2x here and it makes me sad. This is a great phone. Nay, a great big beast of s phone. It has it foibles(bet you don't hear that often) but they will be worked out. I had a troubled phone for a while... reboots, battery heat up, etc... didn't return it, but I kept fiddling with it, removed some apps, messed with settings, trolled the forums and I haven't had a reboot in a week! Runs as smooth as aloe vera lotion now.
I think that people are jumping ship too early, and for the Sensation?!? Really?? That phone is also having issues with reboots and stuff not working... PLUS it is slower, has an iffy screen and runs Sense!
So if you do trade down for that other phone... just go, and stop telling us about it.
Good luck and we'll see you when you come back...

Its a gorgeous piece of hardware, with a really solid cameras, and I'm loving having the speakers in another place than laid flat on the back.
Not being satisfied with the dev support, which is kind of more a privilege than most people here realize, made me realize that having a phone that works more often than not is worth running on Stock(with root and a few choice mods).
Having been around since 1.5 dropped, I thought about what I needed in custom roms then vs what I need now. The G1 needed severe performance boosts to operate like the current crop does on its worst days, apps2sd and keeping an ext partition for caching on was important. I got my power control widget and navigation in 1.6 (I was a big fan of SuperD roms) and I was ecstatic.
Fast forward and I get damn near most of that right out the box. do i need the miscelleaneous features of cm7, like notificationbar power controls? Nope, I can go back to living like I did with my eclair Nexus One(and then with CM6) or my G1.
So comparing the current offerings to just stock, I dont feel like im at a total loss. It's just the way this phones lifespan panned out, and really you cant win them all.
And I am definitely not impressed with the Sensation and Sense3.0. My boss broke the volume key on the store demo the day he opened the box. Dropped it once and the rocker snapped out in the worst way. weird design choices all over that phone.
I really think the dev support will happen when GB drops. Then we can find the new things we didn't know we couldn't live without.
God, remember 1.5? Seems like so long ago... I remember way back when jesusfreke was showing us the what was possible, and when cyan got his cease and desist letter from google... my G1 will always have a special place in my heart...

I love using the G2X and I'm glad I get to keep her. She will be my hacking/gaming phone. Both the G2X and the Sensation have there own problems like you said. I was just lucky enough to get two bug free devices. As said in my review, I think the G2X has a smoother UI and is very responsive. That being said, the. Sensation doesn't even come close until you disable all of those silly animations on Sense. Some games run better on the G2X and some run better on the Sensation. Homerun Hartford 3D for example runs smoother and looks better on the Sensation but dungeon defenders runs smoother on the G2X. Everyone just needs to start making there own decissions and stop making posts like "Bellow Sensation. Bye G2X". I picked the Sensation as my daily driver due to the larger display without being bigger that the G2X. The colors are sharper and appear to pop more on the Sensation but the blacks on the G2X a great. When both devices are sitting right next to each other its unbelievable how muck crisper and clearer the text on the Sensation is. I also use the camera a lot and the Sensation takes much better photos and HD video. Both devices are great but I would say to someone who puts gaming at the top of there smart phone list, get the G2X. If your priority is emailing, web browsing, RSS, ebooks and taking pictures then get the Sensation.

i'm still a fresh new owner of my G2x (got it yesterday). but i've already thrown on 3 custom roms and have decided to stick w/the mcr GB leak (2.3.3) since its more vanilla than CM7. CM7 is just WAY to much extras i don't care for; i wish they had a kitchen sink option like paul's MCR roms do. i love being able to pick and choose what items and tweaks.
anywho, i've been an android owner since the N1 dropped and must say that it almost seems like its more people tinkering with an OS and parts they shouldn't be or don't understand. permission changes on a system file can cause your phone to do some crazy things, i've done it a few times myself (get in a boot loop by renaming a system sound or font, etc)
the G2x's hardware specs made me drop the full off contract price on it. i'm just hoping we see the GB roms mature even more, hopefully once the official GB hits; we'll still have some devs w/one that will update their roms.
sure would love to see a Honeycomb port. this thing has the specs.
yea i cant say enough about my g2x, i really have no problems other then minimal screen bleed and it dont bother me cuz i cant see it in everyday use!....i have no random reboots or sod, i absolutely love the power of this phone, **** the other day i was playing with my wifes mytouch 4g and remember that thing was fast and held its own, i remember when i had one i thought damn this is fast....the other day when i was done playing with it i gave it back to her, and thought to myself damn hun your phone is a turd compared to mine lol....my point being the mytouch 4g was a very fast phone and this phone just digs in its ass! i love everything about it i will definitely say it is the best phone i ever had and i aint going nowhere.....

Another satisfied G2X owner right here. Got mine off some guy on Craigslist before I'd read about all the issues people were having. I think I only kept it stock for maybe 1 day before rooting it and flashing roms on it. I've been using it for over a month now and I haven't once regretted buying it.

Have you tried the Ultimate G2X rom?
It has been my daily driver for a couple of weeks now and I have had absolutely no issues with it. It's based on Froyo so all of the hardware works as it should (no wonky battery issues, HDMI works, GPS works, etc). It has a very nice dark theme to it (I never liked the light colored stock Froyo), and is very snappy and responsive.
It's a very nice rom indeed. Very fast. Very stable. And everything works.

+1 for the Ultimate Rom. I've been using it since the day it was released with zero issues. But...Faux's Rom is starting to look VERY interesting...
I've been a pretty vocal complainer about this phone. I've gotten four. But my complaints have mostly been about the lack of real support and communication. It sucks that LG and Tmo put us all in this position.
I'm getting the Sensation tomorrow. I got the upgrade price. But I'm only considering it a bridge phone until the bugs get worked out of the G2X. When I thought I only had the option of one phone, I HAD to leave for the Sensation. In my case I initially chose the G2X knowing about and comparing it to the Sensation. Sensy is indeed a great phone, but side by side, we all know the G2X is just.....well, better!
But my cell phone is my primary communication device, I don't have a wired home phone. I've had reception issues and it has been too buggy to use the basic features. Not having a choice I was forced to move to the Sensy.
But being in this position, with both phones, changes the equasion. I get the luxury of waiting for the update. I've now decided to request a fifth one after all.....just because the screen bleed IS definatively worse on this fourth one. But if they refuse, I still feel like the screen bleed is a non issue in everyday use. But it appsolutely screams at me when I turn the phone on....
I truly believe that all the other issues will be fixed with the updates(s).
I've spent the last two days putting the phone back where is was before my reset last weekend. I've had no reboots all week, but my data has been giving me fits. I've missed not playing with it this week, so couldn't resist putting it all back. Supposed to get Sensy tommorrow.....have such mixed feelings. This sucks....got two beautiful phones and so conflicted and angst-ridden. I guess I can think of worse positions to be in LOL.
Happy Fathers day to my fellow fathers. And all you mothers for putting up with us!

There is no doubt in my mind that the G2X is snappier and more responsive than the Sensation within the UI but in my mind there is plenty of other things that go into making a phone better. Yes, I care about speed and power but when the ONLY difference in speed I see is in the UI, it's not a big deal in my opinion. The G2X's display does have better blacks but the Sensation has better colors, sharper text, bigger display and a brighter screen. When both phones are in direct sunlight, it's not even a close race. The Sensation wins hands down.
Applications run just as fast, if not faster on the Sensation. One of the only games I play religiously is HomeRun Battle 3D and it is in fact smoother plus looks a lot better on the Sensation.
When you finally get to use the Sensation you will realize that the only thing the G2X does better is a speedy UI. Everything from the camera to the contacts app is inferior.
In the end, I wish I liked the G2X better since I paid retail price for it and even though mine barely had any bugs, the Sensation is still the all around better phone.

I can't speak to the differences in the screen because I've only used the G2X in everyday situations. I do know that I have no trouble reading my screen in sunlight.
As for the different UI and different camera, etc that you mentioned, I think you're overlooking the fantastic hardware that makes up the G2X. I'm not knocking the Sensation because it may be a better solution for some. But I am very very satisfied with the G2X. Many of the roms that are out now have ironed most of the issues and made this phone extremely reliable. I don't have any issues with mine. And I can flash any camera, homescreen app, etc I want and customize to my hearts content.
My point is its a great piece of hardware that has some buggy software from the factory. Iron out the bugs and this thing flies.

I have had my phone for about a month now, hated it at first but have slowly gotten it to the point of stable and fast.
Running CM7 builds for two weeks now (since the bugs have slowly gotten worked out). No reboots or issues, data is fast, battery life is good and everything is just "snappy".
I have given up on LG support for this phone, I won't be buying another LG phone again. Rushing this product to market and abandoning it shows that they hold the consumer in contempt. Hardware and build quality this phone is amazing, software support is terrible.
If LG was smart they would release their source for the phone and allow the true experts (rom cookers) to have their way with perfecting it, LG's software team isn't worth the paper their over sized paychecks are printed on.

I can't speak to the differences in the screen because I've only used the G2X in everyday situations. I do know that I have no trouble reading my screen in sunlight.
As for the different UI and different camera, etc that you mentioned, I think you're overlooking the fantastic hardware that makes up the G2X. Flashing all the camera apps in the world won't change the actually camera. When I said camera, I meant it as in hardware, not software. If you want to talk software than I can tell you, I think the G2X camera app is better than the Sensations. By the way. My G2X really didn't have any bugs at all except for some minor screen bleed. I thought it was a pretty reliable phone if you ask me. I know I'm keeping mine for a little bit so I have something to hack until HTC unlocks the Sensations bootloader. Lastly, I didn't really have any problems reading my G2X in sunlight either but it doesn't mean something else can't look better.

It might be a good idea for members who already have the Sensation to post a review here. Give us your thoughts, opinions and general observations...good and bad.
I'm tempted to get one of these myself, but would love to hear opinions from people who already have them
Sensation is an amazing piece of hardware saddled by a crappy build of Sense. If this phone ran stock GB, it'd be hands down one of the best phones out.

My own HTC SENSATION 4G FOR T-MOBILE REVIEW on Youtube http://youtu.be/jnvhPjJdnHE
Please keep the negative comments down...I have Lupus and i was having a bad pain day and couldnt walk...So i did the review in a chair. So what..lol
Don't shoot me for this as this is my personal opinion but here is my post in the mini comparison review that i posted in the GSII forum
I stopped by the TMO store near work today and checked out the sensation. I spent a good 10minutes with it (no one else was at the store)
Despite being thicker, it felt thinner in hand. I actually do like the overall design and feel better than the boxy feeling of Galaxy S II. That being said, if i hear another HTC fanboi whine about the Galaxy S II being too plasticy(lol), I will snap the plastic pieces from the back cover of the sensation and shove them in their mouth. Outside of the little center piece, construction material is very similar
Now to the device performance. It was sad to see the device run so slowly with the sense overlay. Maybe i spent too much time with the GS II but it's very noticeable. I even asked the store rep when the device was rebooted and she said earlier today I don't think i rebooted my GSII since the reflash to KE2 from KE7. When i handed her my phone to the rep while i played with the sensation, she said the samething about the quickness of the device.
I enjoyed the sense in the old days of winmo but now it just seems overly complicated. On my captivate, i ran the stock android launcher over TW3 and TW4 was pretty refreshing until i ran into a few limitations and swapped it out with LP.
There are many more things needing comparison but that would happen soon when i recommend the sensation for my co-worker who's using TMO.
Edit: Screen was pretty decent. It wasn't as bad as some of the review said it was but it wasn't great either. Also the web browser and TMO service ran pretty smoothly but it did choke slightly during the scroll while browsing engadget

Got mine in the hype of the "early" release by wally mart. Being an avid N1 user since inception, and trying different roms and settling on the stock MIUI roms I must say the Sense 3.0 is a refreshing change IMO. Don't get me wrong, once MIUI can get this I'm all over it LOL....
As for the plus side of things, I do like the Sense launcher. It works for me and how it should. The screen is a little longer than my N1 but I do like it's display. The heft to the phone is great. The feel for the phone feels just sexy in my hand. Wifi connects for me and as for the 4g speeds....it really depends where you are, period. But generally where I had 3g+ in the office, I get 3 bars of 4g. Calls connect without an issue on the network, but the wifi calling which uses minutes as well works well but sounds very low in speakerphone mode. Another cool thing is that the wifi calling featured, when enabled turns automagically on everytime a wifi connection is established. It may be annoying to some, but I like it. You can disable it at any time.
As the negatives go, I would say the s-on. I know its all about timing but they should have gotten something out in a form of a small update either to download or OTA to unlock the thing. Another thing is the volume levels. Ringtone and speaker is low. I am guessing rooting can solve some of the volume issues. Another thing I am missing that the N1 has is the screen off animation. Cosmetic yes, but that's what made GB, GB IMO. As for 4g connection, and speeds, I am happy with it, but I hear it's more quicker on other 4g devices.
Bottom line, is it a good upgrade from a Nexus One? Yes IMO, once it's rooted, this thing will indeed become a beast.
Thought I would share my thoughts on the new gs2 after coming from the captivate for those thinking of upgrading.
Ok, So Ive been waiting for some time, impatiently, to upgrade to gs2, I do like waiting till phones are at or near free, so when I found out I could trade in my captivate at tartget for 60 bucks credit and get the gs2 in my hands right there for 40 more I jumped at it. 40 is cheap enough
So first thing I noticed was that screen seemed quite a bit more vivid. I mean the colors jump out at you. I love this screen. Coupled with gorilla glass, you just cant beat it. Retina what?
Next thing i realized, is I have small thumbs. This screen is a bit bigger, and i found it uncomfartable to reach much of the sceen with my not so flexable thumbs. I almost have to use 2 hands to use this phone. Not the phones fault, as Im sure those blessed with long nimble thumbs have no problem.
the phone is quite a bit faster than the captivate, but not so much that I want to do backflips or anything. Scrolling is mostly smooth, but I do still notice a stutter here and there. Games play perfectly, plenty of power for even the most demanding games like ShadowGun-as expected.
Phone call quality is decent. However, if you use your gs2 with a case, you may want to do some research before buying one. I bought a case day1. people kept telling me I sounded muffled, and there was an echo for them. I heard them just fine. So I started searching the internets and come to find out, its a common problem. A design flaw. When you remove the case all is fine. But with it on problem comes back. Some case are worse. some are better.
I am running a custom rom, however the Roms arent yet on par with captivate ones. On the positive side, you dont have to choose between Audience chip support or more features. However, there is no stock ics roms yet only ported with soft keys mapped to touchscreen as work around for missing support for them. The GB roms run great, but have less features than captivate roms such as exra lockscreens or extra extended power menu options.
I like the camera, but I cant seem to figure out how to zoom in. The rom Im running has modded the camera so that thevolume rocker takes picture.
Battery life for me has not been super great, but thats probably because I cant keep my hands off it.
Gps is one of the two main reasons i wanted to upgrade, and man I tell you it works 1000 times better than the captivate. I mean it actually works.
The other reason(excuse) for upgrading was the flash. It works very well. It boggles my mind that a phone can be such a good camera. And now I even have flash. Beautiful.
Not only is the flash useful for taking pics, but with a custom rom, I have a notification toggle to turn on the flash light to see in the dark and WOW is it bright.
Im definatly going to keep this thing. The positives way outnumber the negatives. Im really liking it especially the screen. For the hell of it I put an aquarium live walpaper on and the colors are so crisp and vivid I just sit there staring at it. I want to show every1, especially iphone users
I hope this review helps anyone thinking of making the switch.
Thanks I still have to wait till November to upgrade, by then I will be looking at the galaxy s 3!

I just got my sgs2 as well and I love it. It amazes me that the phone is barely wider than the captivate. Having a big hand, its easy for me to hold and use.
This is probably better to ask over there but what rom and modem did you use? I found kk6 people sound muffled but KH7 sounds great.
I picked up a TPU case for 10 bucks that fits the phone like a glove just like otter box on the captivate, only thing I had to do was widen the USB area so I can plug on USB cable easier. No issues with the mic and no complaints from callers.
Battery life has been superb for me. My captivate on cm9 with anker battery was the only way to compete. I get typically 3 hours of screen and two hours of calls before draining.
Pinch to zoom in the camera if your using a modded camera. Stock uses the volume rocker.
I love the sgs2, I was waiting for sgs3 announcement but I'm glad I got this phone in the mean time.

you have to pinch to zoom on the screen when taking pictures to get it to zoom.
Ha! Thanks for the zoom tip! Awesome.
And I'm shostock ROM and beforeI found out that it was my case causing my issues, I flashed kh7 from kk6 no problems so far.
Using entropys latest kernel.
Funny thing is when I got the phone I decided I wasn't going to flash a ROM for at least a week just to see how stock feels. I didn't even make it 24 hours
One other thing to note that is obvious is that the back cover is not metal like on the captivate and there's no latching Mechanism like on the captivate. When the covers on it feels very sturdy no problems there. Taking it on and off , it feels a little bit cheap. It seems like it may wear out in time so if you're using an extra battery that may be a problem.
Rock out with your Shostock out
Great review! I am finally up for a new phone and was thinking of switching the the SGS2.
It's either the SGS2 or Asus Padfone (I'm really hoping this comes out for ATT).
Thanks to your review I will most likely get the SGS2 if the Padfone doesn't come out to ATT.
thanks for the review...id love an sgs2 but since i am with rogers canada they have the skyrocket....and from what ive read its not quite on par with the sgs2 from att/bell/telus. im either waiting on the sgs3 or maybe the razr maxx if rogers gets it.
heres hopin! rockin the cappy for a few more months anyway!

I wanted to run stock when my phone first arrived just to get a feel for it... that lasted maybe 5 minutes before it was rooted and bloat removed. So I thought after that, I'll see how stock runs... 20 minutes later I was on SHOstock! Running UnOriginal last few days and it has been great!

I'm really satisfied with my purchase, this phone flies and it's classy as heck.

Agreed the sgs2 is an awesome phone. The captivate was great in its day and still is in my opinion. I have both and i must say the sgs2 picked up where the captivate was lacking in every aspect. The only thing i miss is the development is not yet mature like it is here. But it is getting better by the day.
One last thing, the sgs2 is durable. Mine has taken several hard drops and one dunk in the tub. Its sill alive an good as new.

My Captivate fallen numerous times, I carry it in the pocket with my keys and it still looks like new.
I only have screen protector to avoid scratches.

Nice input... I'm upgrading in July and am torn between the note and the s2
Thanks for the review. Im actually up for an upgrade in less than a month. I am only considering the SGS2 (not the skyrocket). However, with the SGS3 seeming to be so close, is it worth it to wait for it? When it releases will we have to wait 4 months till ATT bakes their stuff in? I am torn between waiting for SGS3 and just flashing ICS on my cappy or just going for the SGS2
ICS kernel source dropped for the i9100 this morning so more roms for the SGS2 should be out soon in ICS flavor. Plus we have expanded and have two different forums for development now, Original development and ported development. Original is for roms created from stock source and ported for anything hellraised or ported manually from a i9100. The i9100 international version and i777 att SGS2 are even closer related than the comparison between i9000 and i897. With the hell raiser from Entropy ANYONE can easily port a i9100 Rom onto a i777.
Now onto whether to wait for the SGS3 is a question only each individual can answer. But the SGS2 is a very kickass phone and wont disappoint. It has everything our cappies were missing plus any/most all roms are super stable and speeds even at the stock 1.2 seem faster and smoother than my cappy at 1.2, 1.4, or 1.6ghz. Just a well made phone with great battery life, great camera, cannot think of one thing that really is bad. Oh ha gps works great too.

I had been wanting to upgrade to the SGS2 for a long time now (since it first came out on Rogers), but my next upgrade won't be until this November.
Should be plenty of time for Rogers to get the SGS3, right?

I work right next door to a rogers store. If I hear word of the sgIII. You'll be seeing a post here. I would consider the switch. For now the captivate has been an incredible phone.

Ok well here's my advice (take it with a grain of salt if you will but this is what I would do if I was in your shoes):
Install CM9 on my Cappy w/ Glitch B5 and overclock it to 1.4Ghz. Then I'd just hold it out until the GS3 comes out.
Problem solved! Patience is a virtue, my friend
In case anyone's planning on giving up on the GS3 and go with the 2, AT&T has them for $9.99 now... personally, I'm planning on waiting it out a bit and see what comes available in the next couple of months. Should be completely out of my contact by then and will be able to switch carriers if there's a better deal to be had somewhere else.
