Where is MyBackUp Root? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

maybe im trippin but i just flashed a rom and cant find mybackup root on the market. i still have an apk of it somewhere so i can still get it but did they take it off? just wondering is any1 else noticed

I believe you may, in fact, be trippin'.
A few seconds of searching at market.android.com turned up the following: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.rerware.android.MyBackupRoot&feature=search_result.
Is that the droid you're looking for?

great! i typed it in on my phone and the only ones that came up were the lite version and the paid version but not the rooted version. ill check again

[Q] Xperia x10a rooting woes, looky here...

ok so i bought this xperia x10a two days ago and never personally had an android before so i didn't know anything about rooting or custom roms until recently i've been shoving my face in the middle of it. heres whats ive done so far...
installed android sdk r08 windows
installed x10 usb phone drivers
adb in cmd prompt shows device listed with serial number so i have the install right
ive installed universal androot 1.6.2 beta 5 using adb install
i opened up androot and rooted the phone with superuser and matching firmware option, androot says it worked.
i tried to load google earth apk, and im STILL security blocked--what gives?
so i didnt sweat it, i figured maybe i should try another rooter. i installed z4root using the same method. i opened the program and it asked me if i wanted to re-root (because androot thinks it worked i assume) so i went ahead and hit re-root. it went through its process and says it worked as well.
yet, i still cannot install google earth because of the ATT security block. could i somehow be rooted but still have this security block? i don't see how, isnt that the purpose...to unrestrict the phone?
anyway, my x10a is still running 1.6 eclair and ive used sony ericsson's update service program to try upgrading to 2.1 and give it another try but their program says my phone is up to date when clearly my phone shows its firmware being 1.6. ive hit a brick wall with this...can anyone give me a sledge hammer? for the brick wall i mean, not the phone.
The reason you still cannot install non market apk's is that ATT has turned off the "install non market apps" by default at the factory. you are going to have to install a custom ROM in order to get away from the ATT branded phone. Google installing a ROM for X10. I did it on a friends phone a few weeks ago and got him up to 2.1.1
Good Luck!

well, i can install non market apk's...i installed both universal androot and z4root USING Android SDK. once installed, both of them say they can root the phone. now, i actually get asked whether i want some programs superuser access, and when i say yes--it allows it. i think my problem with google earth not installing via android sdk is that im still running android 1.6 and Earth requires at least 2.1. I don't see a x10 rom for 2.1 on the market to try it and ericsson update service still says im fully updated with the latest. if i can manage to get 2.1 i bet you i can install google earth and anything else that will run on 2.1. android sdk seems to be a viable workaround to the non market app restriction if im thinking about it right...i just need 2.1 now and continue using android sdk to install my 3rd party apps until a fully functional and stable 2.1+ custom rom comes out for the x10. anyone have any thoughts? give me a another 3rd party apk to install that will work with 1.6 and ill try to install it and see what my results are.

[Q] Droid 2 Global Roms

I'm new to rooting and just rooted my Droid 2 Global and have no idea what to do next. Where do I find roms? What are the best ones? And how can I get rid of some of this junk moto has on here?

I'm sorta new to this too. I rooted with Z4Root. I'd recommend going to the market and downloading Root Uninstaller. That helped me get rid of all the stupid crap verizon put on there, like Blockbuster, Kindle, CityID, etc.
Another thing you could do is look up "root" in the market. It will show you all the apps that require root access.
Becareful though, just like your home computer, uninstalling some software may have unintended consequences. Hope that helps.

Thanks a lot. Has anything you uninstalled caused you problems?
Not yet. But I only uninstalled the factory installed extra stuff. I noticed a slight pickup in speed and battery life (although it could just all be in my head... LOL). Let me know if you do anything else cool. Im still trying to build up enough balls to actually start flashing roms.

This is a bad idea, don't do it.
When you delete the bloatware that comes on the phone, you make your phone unable to receive OTA updates from Verizon. This includes any future updates to Android version 2.3 (Gingerbread). The updates run as a patch, they check for all of the system data to be present. This includes pre-installed apps like blockbuster, amazon, etc. If ALL of the system data isn't present, the patch can't run.
Instead, you should use Titanium Backup to freeze these programs. It does the same thing, but instead of removing the files, it changes their extension, so that they can't run. It has the same effect, but when you want an update, you just unfreeze your programs, update, and then refreeze them. It also lets you make backups of your apps and app data.
If you don't want to pay for TiBu, you can always manually change all the filenames from cityID.apk to cityID.bak, etc etc. This does the same thing, for free, but is more involved and less beginner friendly.
Do what ever you want......if you want to go back to stock to get offical ota updates just search for the sbf file and your all good. Just know what your doing before you do it. If you delete bloatware it will effect ota updates. But flash the sbf with rsd lite and you'll be fine
Sent from my DROID2 GLOBAL using XDA App
You could do that, yes. But freezing bloatware is more efficient. Flashing an SBF is more time intensive, and has a higher chance (not high, mind you, but highER) of not working correctly. Also, TiBU has the added benefit of being a backup utility that's easy to use and very functional and stable.
Ok.

Well I guess that shows how much of a dummy I am with this stuff. I ended up reinstalling the stuff I removed from the market and unrooting because I had to send the phone back. It had a really weird charging issue that was present when I bought it. Im on the new one now. (Rooted to try and fix the charging issue. It didnt work). I haven't rooted the new phone yet. Im reading through all the forums to try and gain a little better understanding of how to do this stuff without wrecking my phone or missing out on updates. Thanks for all the good info! I wont be screwing around with bloatware so soon this time.
Definitly do not go the uninstall route on the Blur stuff.
Freezing is better!
As for ROMs there is only one ROM that I know of and it is Fission.
Get the ROM manager here at XDA and flashing it is a snap. It even has the Stock Droid in the manager so you can easily go back to stock when needed.
The stock rom in the rom manger still has root, busybox and is deodexed. If sent back with these programs on it will void your warranty. So if you ever need to send back sbf 1st to be safe. The .sbf takes like 15 minutes. Maybe two minutes more then flashing a ROM. So I really don't get how flashing a .sbf is difficult. And it actually is the safest due to the locked bootlader and the drivers usually never fail if running Windows 32 bit.
so i'm assuming that all of the other "popular" ROM's (liberty, rubix, apex, etc.) that say they are for the DX and D2 wont work on the D2G? I've installed many ROM's on my D2G and all of them get stuck on airplane mode and wont unlock. I end up having to restore and revert back to stock...
Yep, pretty lame that all these devs havent taken numerous peoples' offers to test out d2g ports of the d2 roms. i mean i have no idea how to port it myself but theres people saying "if you try it, ill test it" and still no devs take anyone up on the offer.
So does ne one think that we are going to get ne roms ported over to us from the dx or the d2 cuz I was lookin forward to flashing liberty to my D2G so can some1 pm if they got ne idea or if they kno when we can expect a new rom

D2G Rooting
Hey Guys- I just rooted and installed Fission ROM on my D2G- WHEW!! My wife (the IT pro) and I rooted this past Sunday evening. We used Z4ROOT- this part was fairly easy. Then we spent the next 6 hours- with no luck whatsoever- trying to install a custom ROM. We finally found out that there aren't many out for the D2G just yet.
We finally found Fission ROM, but could not get it installed. You must have a bootstrap program to install the rom. I found this out by accident. Finally installed Fission on Tuesday night. Only used for a few hours, but so far so good.
BTW- there are several bloatware freezers on the market. I had read not to remove it, so I froze it. App Freezer for Root seems to be working fine.
Be careful, and good luck!

There are instructions with everything you need to know (including koush's bootstrap) provided by team defuse on their website. The entire process shouldn't take more than 30 minutes tops.
And you can delete anything you want now that there is the D2 global SBF for recovery. Just make sure you know how to use it before things go awry so you don't panic and flood the forums with questions that have already been answered.

How do you get the OTA Update? I mean, you have to be on Verizon to get it, right? What if you unlocked the phone and use it outside the US with a different sim card from some other carrier? Can you still get the update? Please help.
And, if somehow I can find this precious update, then if I change my rom to Fission, I won't get updates anymore, right? Then what is the point of getting new roms? I'll have to be checking for newer roms with newer updates from Verizon all the time? Is this the idea?
Thank you,

Yes, you can get the update, no matter you are not on Verizon network. But update will not be 'pushed' to you, you have to go to system/about phone/system updates. Phone will check for update and let you know if one is available. If you are already running 2.4.330, you will get prompt no update is available. If you are on 2.4.29 - you must get the prompt update is available and will be downloaded.
Update will work only if you are using stock firmware (for me it worked fine no matter I had rooted the phone, you must make sure there are no 'frozen' apps before update is applied, or it will fail to install). On Fission, it will not show/work. Many users, including myself, have reported update does not seem to be adding anything benneficial to users on GSM/UMTS networks. On some networks (in Canada and Australia so far) update causes the phone to become unreliable when it comes to keeping connection to the cellular network. Another user (in Germany) reports no problems using the updated firmware. I suspect this is related to frequencies - in Canada and Australia we use bands that overlap with US bands which as we all know have some software restrictions imposed by the phone. In Europe (Germany, Greece) you guys use 2100Mhz.
Again - update addresses some CDMA issues, I find absolutely no different with/without the update in terms of battery life or call quality. (I am on Rogers Canada - GSM/HSPA 850/1900.)

So whats up with Hulu in Mikfroyo

Im sure its been asked before.. but how come it wont play? Do i need a new flash update? Says it doesnt support my phone or some crap
I'm thinking the best place to ask that question would be in the ROM thread.
I'm using MikFroyo 4.4 and it was working fine. The initial fix was to the FlashPlayer.apk. There has been a recent update to FlashPlayer on the market, if you downloaded that update, that would probably cause it to not work anymore. Try uninstalling the update (if its even installed).
it was actually working just fine with the flash in 4.4 but they have since put out 1-2 new updates to Flash since then, and it broke my Hulu also. Uninstalling the updates made it work again!
Hulu blocks mobile devices. People have been getting around this by tricking the site into thinking it's a windows device by hex editing the .so file. I haven't been able to locate the most recent edited version of Flash but the previous version has been posted on XDA.
I just flashed MikFroyo today and the Hulu works on mine.... I havent updated the Flash that I know of..

Easiest way to watch Hulu is to use the app that Mik included with the rom. After you choose video you want to view, make sure you click the hourglass when the window appears.
If you are trying to use your browser to use hulu.com, you need to change your browser settings to NOT view as a mobile website, and it should work fine as well!
Also, I am pretty sure if you update Flash from the Market you will lose the hulu mod.
Hope this helps!

[Q] Droid X2 Verizon, can't upgrade, help

How can I bring my Droid X2 from Verizon back to how it was when I got it from the store??
I rooted my phone using MotorolaOneClickRoot.exe "pete's motorolla tools"
I removed bookmarks and I removed two or three verizon stock apk like Blockbuster and Slacker. Also allowed super user permission for apps like barnicle wifi tether and a screenshot program. I have done nothing else.
I recently got the request to upgrade to 1.3.380.MB870.Verizon.en.US but I can not upgrade.
Attempt #1
I factory reset the hard way. Hold power plus volume down... The phone boots back up and I still have Superuser icon showing but everything else is different. I realized at that time I would have to unroot but I could not remember which program I used to root my phone.
Attempt #2
I ended up installing gingerbreak and used the unroot uption on that program to unroot my phone. It said successful. I tried to install the update and it failed. I factory reset the phone and it failed. IDK why but I attempted to root the phone again using gingerbreak after that... but gingerbreak would not root my phone again, it just sat there doing nothing for an hour and 30 minutes.
Attempt #2
I searched more and found the program I originally used. I loaded it up and clicked the unroot option. It unrooted my phone sucessfully. I attempted to upgrade and it failed again!
Attempt #3
I ran the temporary root that came with MotorolaOneClickRoot.exe . Thinking maybe gingerbreak messed up some files and I needed to restore them for the unroot to work properly. The temporary root was not what I had used the first time so I'm thinking maybe I should have done the permanant root... I then unrooted the phone again. After that, I factory reset again and attempted to upgrade the phone. Still fails.
I havn't removed or modified any sytem folders. I simply deleted bookmarks and Blockbuster and other useless stock apps. I've unrooted and factory reset but blockbuster and the stock applications never come back...
I can't upgrade my phone and I need some help. I can't remember what came with the phone by default so IDK how to manually set it back. Please, how can I resolve this? How can I bring my phone back to how it was when I got it from the store??
I want that ugrade.
Notherwise fully aware if we have a forum for your device but if we do....head in over to that place and look fir the "stock ROM" for your device.
First thing is first....you need ti remove root...not familiar with device so don't know is stock Rom will restore root.
Another option is to go to the first thread on this forum and ask Samuel.....he might be able to help.
Cheers and good luck mate
I don't want to restore the root. Honestly I never really used the super user features for anything other than screenshots.
I have no roms or anything. This is just 2.3.3 with the root enabled. I did lurk around and find a link to VRZ_MB870_DTN-14.8.sbf but I'm not sure if that is what I need to do? Will an SBF restore my phone and applications so I can upgrade again?
Update to my previous post. I searched around like I should have in the first place.
I used RSDLite 5.3 to flash my phone to VRZ_MB870_DTN-14.8.sbf. Which was android 2.2.2
I was then able to update the phone to version 2.3.3 and then finally 2.3.4 official OSA over wifi.

[Q] Model number on TF101 is TF101G - some apps incompatible

Well, updated my pirme rom to 2.1 last night... (maybe should write in the prime thread, but i don't have 10 posts yet so I can't) Discovered when I tried to install GTA 3 this morning that I couldn't find it on the market app. went to the online version, but when i tried to install it there, nothing happened. I soon discovered why, because of the update of Prime, the Model Number on the settings screen had changed to "TF101 G" from previoslu only "TF101". I have tried editing the build.prop and sending the apk from my phone to the TF, but no luck on getting it running yet? Any way of changing the Model Number without ****ing something up? Also tried wiping cache btw...
I posted same issue this morning for the same reason.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1392957
Looks like it's the same in revolver too.
sorry, didn't see that thread. Well, let's just hope a solution will be available soon...
