[Q] craiglist and warranties - T-Mobile LG G2x

I have a question got a G2X brand new from Craigslist the box seems to have been open once. I want to know if I still get the warranty from LG or some other way i can protected from damaged or lost?

If anyone has put their sim in the phone and made a call/text the warranty is only good for their account. HOWEVER!! If you have php bundle or warranty it will be covered by T-mobile/Asurion or LG will cover it as long as it's under a year.

I wouldn't worry about it the phone has a warranty for a year. This phone has not been out a year so I doubt it would be a problem.

If you have a problem with it I'd just try getting it serviced under warranty. The worst anyone can tell you is no. I wouldn't sweat over it because the situation is what it is.

If t-mobile asks say it was gifted to you. Someone else tried it and made sure it worked.

Thanks I check the tmobile website and I have been with the phone for more then 2 weeks now so I dont think tmobile can cover me.
But now I know at least i can count with the one year LG warranty.

What? Two weeks is buyers remorse not warranty exchange.
G2x with CM7 and faux 1.8 kernel. [email protected] 5091 quadrant.

Think they mean to purchase insurance. If so, just go through square trade. they will even cover used items as long as the claim isn't made in the first couple months, and they don't cover theft. Just make sure you know about the first couple months since it wasn't covered right away.

I had a quick question as well, I bought mine of Craigslist, would I still be able to exchange my phone, for lets say a refurbished one, under LG's one year warranty through T-Mobile?
Sent from my LG-P999

I can't see why not. Warranty is warranty.

G2x warranty exchanges are on backorder

I think they ran out of refurbs that were crap. LG is probably shipping them fresh G2x's that are good. My 4th one will come next day air through UPS when they get more in stock. I will add the information to the thread comparing serial numbers.
Anyone else have that information told to them?
Not sure, but T-mobile was ready to exchange my another phone yesterday, as soon as I said , I thought they were all out right now, they told me "oops, I made a mistake, you are correct"
Confusing to say the least. After that conversation, I tried it again with another agent. He told me they can exchange.
Of course, nothing is seriously wrong with my phone except screen bleed but I wanted to see what they would say about exchanging.
haha sounds like tmo reps are being told to pacify those that do not know better with more dud phones and shipping and handling delays....the sad thing is there are ppl out there that give up and endure these manufacture and/or software defects, sadder still these ppl will never recommend t-mobile to anyoneband t-mobile does not seem to care

Backorder means nothing at Tmo. My second exchange was "backordered", it shipped a day later.
I have another replacement coming, no ETA as I've just requested it.

You received a warranty replacement - you need to request a true exchange.
I also just warrantied my phone at a local store this weekend for screen bleed. This will be my third one....he said if this one is still jacked up they would offer something to make it all better. I just want the phone I bought to work correctly without defects. Whatever the case may be, they always send the main unit without back cover and battery, so I will do the full exchange next time if it comes to that.
G2x indefinite backorder!!
Customer Service told me on Friday that it would be back in stock early this week, but dropped my call transferring to tech support to complete the process of troubleshooting my phone (stuck on start-up screen & unable to hard reset...yeah, tech support can't help) before putting in an order for a warranty exchange (which as of 6/17 cost $5 ONLY IF you have insurance!?!?). When I called back, I briefly spoke with another agent before demanding to speak with her manager. The condescending jerk told me they did not have a date for when they would be back in stock, no I could not get a different phone, and no I would not be compensated in any way shape or form for my inconvenience.
^ I'm sure you can fight for compensation on the bill. Trust me, the loyalty department is pretty good with that kind of stuff. I was compensated the whole data plan charge of 30 bucks when my I told them that the battery life was horrible on one of my batteries. It was defected, and I complained I could not use the internet at all during the week that I was complaining about. She was nice enough to compensate the whole month for me AND send me a battery free of charge
Just chatted with a rep....I asked where my replacement phone was and she said they are NOT on back order, so I should've gotten it by now (ordered this weekend on 2nd day air), so she filed a research form or something to locate where my replacement phone is.
Like 2 weeks ago I called TMO to get a warranty replacement. She told me the same thing that the refirbs where backordered because the g2x was pulled (her words) She told me that as soon as they got them in one would be sent out to me. two days later I got a shipping notification and 4 days after the all had the replacement. The replacement had worse screen bleed than the one I sent back(I didnt send it back for that reason) So I doubt I got one from the new batch. I sent the other one tmo sent me directly to LG (Steller wireless technology) I'm waiting to get that one back fixed or replaced with a newer batch one.
I called in for a replacement battery, and everything is on backorder. Maybe they are prepping for something . . .

I just got a shipping notification! I have spoken with several reps and asked for compensation and been shot down every time. T-Mobile has been the worst company I've ever dealt with. Identity theft, idiots reps that are less informed than me, misinformation, 8 bank overdraft charges in a week trying to push a check through, and a looooong list of promises and no follow-through. Never thought I'd miss AT&T...

Went to a T-Mobile store today. They had 0 in stock. So, they called another store. They also had 0 in stock. I got them to put in an order for a warranty exchange as my phone seems to have every possible problem, except reboots. They told me they were on back order as well.
So, I'm thinking, like some-one else said, that they are holding back for a new batch of phones. That's what I'm hoping anyway.
Also, I think the 5 dollar warranty exchange fee is ridiculous. Verizon never charged me to warranty a phone.
I called for a warranty exchange 2 days ago and they told me it was on backorder. Just got a message saying it was shipped. Probably a refurb?

Same thing happened to me, now got a defective replacement! About to call tomorrow and see what they say!
....
I have never had a charge to warranty replace up until the last one. Maybe its being used for something? Or a new policy is in place lol.
My G2x replacement is shipping. Lets hope it has gingerbread .

My Warranty Replacment Experience

Well, to start off the new year right, my original G2x stopped sending/receiving SMS messages under any circumstances, whether it was on wifi, 4G, Edge, or GPRS. I unrooted it and got a new SIM card, still have the same issue (according to the person at the T-Mobile store, I had a "2G SIM card in a 4G phone.") They suggest a whole new phone, and I agree.
One day later with overnight shipping, I get my new G2x, and the first thing I notice is the LG branding in place of the T-Mobile branding. Ignoring that, I turn on the phone only to see dead pixels everywhere, I don't understand how they could have even sent this one out. I call up customer care and they make me go through the whole troubleshooting procedure, and they decided to send me another one. They also told me if this next one had problems, they'd send me a replacement phone of a different model.
So I'm getting a new G2x sent to me tomorrow. I hope this next one works just fine, or I'll have to get a new phone. Also, what replacement phones do they usually offer for the G2x?
I have been through this process, I'm on my third G2x and CC told me if I ha e anymore problems with my G2x then they will give me a different phone.e... When I asked what them replacement model would be the CC Rep told me they could only exchange it for the Sidekick 4G and I told them I would just deal with the G2x and any problems it my have

Guess they got tired of people trading in just for the Sensation 4g.... disappointing.

All of my warranty exchanges have been great! My most recent one had the LG Logo as well. I made a thread about it last month. No problems except a bit of screen bleed.

Thought I'd follow up on my original post. Got my new G2x in the mail, and it's much better. The screen is flawless (no bleeding!), and it was obviously brand new, it still had the original plastic covering on the screen and buttons. Still has the LG branding, but I think I'll live. Overall, a good experience from T-Mobile.

On the g2x if you hold the power and down button, it should just do a master reset, it's not like HTC where it takes you to recovery (correct me if I'm wrong) but just to make sure your unrooted try to download and use a app that requires root

at&t GAVE me a skyrocket...

Alright so before you get to caught up in the title, let me explain myself. I have been doing some research on which phones that at&t and sammy would upgrade to ICS, the infuse was not one of them. The Galaxy S II Skyrocket however was one. I promptly looked up the cities that have at&t LTE, I was pleasantly surprised when I saw my city there. I remembered back to when I owned the awful Motorola Backflip. I hated it so much I used the warranty department at at&t to switch the Backflip out three times before being sent an HTC Aria the fourth time. I decided to try this with the infuse and this time the phone they were willing to supply me with was the Galaxy S II Skyrocket. I thought that sharing this may help some of you who want a phone that will definitely receive ICS. If your Infuse is still under warranty, call up at&t give them crap till they send you an infuse (repeat 3 times) and enjoy your skyrocket the 4th time!

I only had to do this one time. I bought a captivate for $1 back in aug 2011. I got bored with it. In Oct I decided to call att and tell them i had all kinds of problems with the captivate and that i did not want another one and asked them what they could do for me besides me cancel my service. She offered me an Atrix or a infuse. I got the infuse and didn't pay anything for it. I just sent my captivate back in once i received my infuse. You don't have to do multiple warranty exchanges, you have to be a good talker.

The warranty department figures it's easier to deal with lying by just giving in sometimes.
Pretty slick lol
So I called them and told them I was having touchscreen issues which is True I have been. They sent me over to At&t warranty to verify my issue, told them I've done a master reset, I've done recovery and everything, They then stated I was in warranty for a replacement so here comes another infuse. lol
Edit: You DO NOT need the account holders last SSC numbers to get a replacement. Tell them you have a question and they'll say sure I can help you with that, tell them your problem and they'll have to deal with helping you. I advice before you do this, you put stock firmware back on your phone, factory reset it before sending it back as well, Don't bother if your phone has physical damage or water damage as there Warranty exchange seems to be very serious and they will charge you $399 which is the total cost of the phone.

Once we get an official expect to see better roms, Only a couple weeks till we see it.
Edit: I've been thru this process many times with T-Mobile and getting another phone, Refurbished phones are nothing compared to what you got now thats been used for months, Refurbished phones are phones used 30 days or less from purchase and when there brought back they cannot be sold as "New" anymore. Every refurbished phone I've ever gotten was in the upmost perfect condition.

[Q] Sent T-Mobile a Rooted Phone

Since I was having problems with my phone, and it was still under their warranty, I requested a replacement, and when it was sent to me I was careful (or so I thought) to restore the stock recovery as well as the stock rom. After some time I realized that the "stock" ROM to which I had restore the phone I sent to T-Mobile was a modified Froyo build, rooted, with ROM Manager installed. So now I am worried that they may charge me some ridiculous fee because I sent back a device that was not fully stock. From logic or past experience, is TMO going to take any action?
I've sent in a g2x with cm7, didn't get billed or I don't even know if they found out. Could be different for you but that's my experience
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
honestly, most of the time the phone is never powered on again before its disassembled and refurbished.
and even if it is, nobody working on the floor is going to care either way.
most of the time, as long as the phone gets past the rep in the store, your fine.
I think the worst they could do if they found out, was just return it to you and say they're sorry. I don't think they'll just charge you without your approval. When I brought in my phone to check a problem with my data, the first thing the guy there did was check my phone's info like software and stuff to see if it's stock, otherwise they can't help you if it's a rooted phone.
Let us know what happens.

My phone short circuited while rooted and wouldn't turn on so I sent it in and am crossing my fingers lol
Success.
I got an email a couple of days ago saying T-Mobile had received my return. I called customer support under the pretense that my phone was acting weird and got her to check my warranty and it was fine. So as per what most people were saying, sending tmo a rooted phone will not root any warranties or incur any action from their part. Can't say much about phones sent directly to the manufacturer or the "premium handset insurance" people, which apparently managed through a third party company that states "any false information given will be processed accordingly."
On a side note, if you check tmo's support website, for most of their recent phones they attached a note explicitly stating an update to 4.0 in the future. For our beloved g2x, however, they wrote a long note stating how the recently leaked 21y update will be available starting may 14th, without any allusion to ICS. To me that just reinforces the notion that the only company that's more pathetic than a LG and nvidia combo is T-mobile and their haphazard and lethargic approach and contributions to today's smartphone community.
Not to say the update is completely useless, however; from my own experience it makes a tremendous improvement in battery life and wifi calling. Not to mention the fact that my phone does not shut down randomly in the middle of the night like it used to at times.
Here's the link to Tmo's announcement

I bought my G2X on craigslist. It was already rooted and running CM7. I was getting a SIM error (later to be learned it was caused by ICS) I told TMo I bought it on craigslist already rooted. They still sent me a replacement at no cost.

Do you have Premium Handset Protection on your plan?

I was going through warranty replacement proceedings (cuz of screen bleeding, 3rd time) over the phone with a tmo rep and when he said there would be a $5 charge i flipped out (it's the principal, if they would send me a properly manufactured device i wouldn't need to keep returning their ****) he instantly volunteered to waive the fee. I'm about to call and get ANOTHER replacement. Eventually i will get them to replace it with a sensation.

I bought my G2X on craigslist. It was already rooted and running CM7. I was getting a SIM error (later to be learned it was caused by ICS) I told TMo I bought it on craigslist already rooted. They still sent me a replacement at no cost.

My friend told me whatever phone the SIM card is in is covered by the insurance. That's the only thing I've heard. I didn't ask them (T-Mobile) any more questions.

Sweeet! Kudos for playing that one smart. I have sent back a few phones for warranty replacement to T-mo. My 1st was a modded HD2 that registered on their system (so they said) as running android. (it was running android, lol). 2nd was a G2x which was rooted and had a custom ROM. I know for sure they have no way of knowing without you volunteering the information yourself because they ask you have you modded the phone. If you say yes they may use that to deny you flat out but if not they probably will never be notified of such. Devices typically are wiped clean before ever being powered on.
*bump* yea I'm looking to send in my HTC one s for battery life issues and Im wondering fogs sane thing seeibg that I'm rooted and custom viper Rom installed.
had my phone off th3 charger for 50mins now and I'm at 82% Battery wtff

Anyone Get the Verizon Insurance?

I typically never get insurance, but since I got this phone using my brother's upgrade and will not be able to upgrade again without someone losing unlimited data, I would like this phone to last. I've heard mixed things on the Verizon insurance- some love it and some don't see the need. Also, for those of you that have the insurance, do you have the total equipment coverage? This extends the one year warranty to the life of the phone. I wouldn't get this typically, but coming from a Thunderbolt, I experienced a drastic deterioration of my phone and again, I need the GS3 to last longer.
One more thing, is it easy going back to stock? I am currently rooted and am running CleanROM. I also backed up my IMEI, for what its worth. Can VZW see that I rooted and flashed a ROM, even if I restore it back to stock? I don't want to run into any problems putting a claim in. Thanks!!

I got the insurance, but I have 8 year old twins so I did not want to take the chance of them messing it up when I was not looking.
I don't usually get the insurance cause the phone already comes with 1 year manufacture warranty so I just gotta make sure I don't drop it. And to your second question, yes its pretty easy going back to stock. Just download Odin and the stock ROM and follow the instructions. It will unroot your phoneand WIPE EVERYTHING. For some reason I lost my imei and I couldn't recover it so Verizon replaced the phone under warranty at no charge.

I use best buy geek squad insurance. It's only a couple bucks more a month it's like $10 a month but it last as long as you have the phone. they replace it with a new one not a refurb. No matter what happens to the phone. And I guess if it's out of stock than you get one of equal or greater value.. that what I was told by the rep selling me it but I figured anything is better than Verizon's asuron

I got best buy too. They asked me "do you think you will break the phone, or loose it more?" i think id break it so i choose geeksquad. I heard bad things about it though, like 100$ for a cheap temp phone, and weeks to months to get your phone back. All i know is im not going to insurance intill my screen stops functioning or everything is just shattered. I already have a little circle back light bleeding in ths screen only visible in a dark room

They lied to you. I worked there for 3 years.
The phone goes out to a 3rd party company in Dallas, and that company ships you a refurbished model back that more than likely won't be 100% functional.
During that time of anywhere from 3 business days to 30, they make you take a "loaner phone" which they charge you for.
Don't believe me? Call 1-800-GEEKSQUAD or go into another BBY or call Customer Service and ask.
Refurb. Only time it is new is if the system (called STAR) states the 3rd party company has no refurbs to give. Which happens almost never.

Sometimes if you enroll into an autopay option with your bank and pay every month with your card, the bank will allow for some sort of deductible to pay for a new phone if something happens. I know mine does but I haven't looked into the fire print.

I like the extended warranty since its only like $1 and some change a month. As for the insurance its nice to have, i don't care if the phone is refurbished or not as long as it works. My new phone had a nominal slow speed cpu and my refurb has a fast pvs so yay me!

LOL, good luck with that. not to be a ****, but you will never get a new phone from them, unless they have tried EVERYTHING else first, including sending it out for repair 3 TIMES! (about a month per time) Yes, you will be charged for a loner as well, and yes, it will suck the big one. I would NOT recommend the best buy insurance to anyone. I ALWAYS pushed the carrier, even though it is more.

I worked for these R-Tards in Michigan for 4 years, all in the mobile dept. (can you tell i'm a little bitter?)
I have verizon insurance. It's expensive but I feel better with it. I also have the otterbox Defender case. I am ocd about scratches.
For going back to stock I personally always make sure I know how to put the phone back to the out of box state. It's really easy, just check out the guide in development sticky. Use the G1 Odin link, I think it still works.
Edit: for best buys black tie plan, I broke my Droid x a few years ago, had that plan. Took it in and it took them a month to figure out they couldn't repair it then walked over and got a new one off the shelf. Stupid in my opinion but you do get a new phone.

The vzw insurance is priceless extends phone warranty until you upgrade to diff phone
Another thing unless u drop phone anything that goes wrong is covered in house
The only draw back it's a ***** getting a different device after multiple remans
You will get your due for an update crap

Thanks guys! I think I'm going to get the Total Equipment package. My experience with the Thunderbolt has been a disaster. Those who had the total equipment plan on the TBolt were able to get their phones swapped out for Rezounds (of course, after numerous rounds of trouble shoots and replacement TBolts). I don't think the S3 will deteriorate as quickly as the Thunderbolt, but again it's about being risk adverse. Thanks again!
I got my phone from Sams club and got their square trade insurance through them. $100 for 2 years and only $50 deductible. But they don't cover water damage

I have insurance and also a spare xperia play as a backup. Let's say I switched to my xperia play and they switch the insurance to it. Since there's probably no chance of them having that phone anymore would they upgrade me to a newer phone if I filed a claim? This could be a workaround to the no more upgrades on unlimited data lines
