awesome my phone info (barcode, model number IMEI) ALL GONE
yeah, I went to rub wipe off what I thought was a scratch behind ny battery and some of my IMEI rubbed off. I suppose it's ok if I had it written don somewhere else, plus it's on the box.
*#06# for IMEI
That's all you really need.
Imei is under phone information under settings. Rubbing the barcode off the back could piss off a atnt employee if you ever use your warranty. They scan that when getting another phone.

Hey everybody,
i just dropped my phone from about 30 cm on concrete floor.
everything seemed to be allright, only after i turned off the cellular radio in the Comm Manager and turned it on again shortly after, my phone was reporting that i have not inserted a Sim card....
After several soft resets, and trying my sim in other phones, i suppose a cable/connector in the phone got loosened by the fall.
I do not have access to HTC repair services or any other repair options, but i think i can manage to fix it myself as long it is no hardware damage.
IF anybody knows how to( instructions or likely), i would be happy to hear it..
Also ive seen the "how to replace LCD/ dismantle device" instructions but they seem to involve dissembling the whole phone into parts.
Thanks guys

yea dude your gonna have to take your phone apart . . .like you said you can follow the instruction for LCD replacement guide (LINK ATTACHED BELOW), but your gonna need some tools. taking the phone apart is not hard but you gotta have patience and atleast need like 1 - 2 hours of time ...
you need TORX T6 SCREWDRIVER and TORX T4 SCREWDRIVER ...

Did you check the sim-lock?
Slide out keyboard. Shake gently if the door to the sim opens up it is not locked. Push the lock in the direction of arrow with door closed. It is the plastic bar next to the door. You may want to check if the sim is all the way inserted as well. Phone will act like the sim is bad with both of the above conditions.
i just bought a new nexus s at best buy and when i turned it on i wasn't prompted to the android screen that tells me to touch the green android to sign into my gmail account so i got a little paranoid. the screen protector is still on the front and back, the battery was sealed and the charger was wrapped like it was new so i'm not sure if it was used and sold as new.
i did a factory reset and then upgraded from 2.3.1 to 2.3.2 and then 2.3.3 manually so i think it would have removed anything if something WAS installed and it is was rooted and then rooted updating to 2.3.3 removed the root. it's in new condition and there is nothing wrong with it (so far) so i don't want to have to deal with exchanging it and then getting a phone in bad condition which i would have to exchange again.
anyone know what bestbuy does if they get a returned cell phone? are they able to resell it as new?
should i be afraid that the phone was used and something could have been installed that could steal my information once i enter it?
could the IMEI number have been copied down and could it be duplicated so i end up getting charged for someone using it with another phone? could the IMEI number have been copied and could the phone be reported as stolen by someone else without my cell phone provider confirming if they actually own the phone?
i know it these might be irrational fears but could anyone give me peace of mind and let me know if those things could possibly be done?
Even if there was something intalled as u fear, it should have been removed when u flashed the phone with the new versions.. Also i think the manufacturer will do the initaill bootup.. it may be possible that they forgot to reset the phone..
you think i should worry about the IMEI number being compromised at all?
Yeah, I wouldn't worry about it.
I wouldn't worry about it too much.
Okay I have a pair of Rockets
1 is hard Bricked and needs a JTag
2 has a smashed screen n digitizer
So I'm wondering what would be easier just change the board on the bricked one or screen on the cracked one?

Put the board from the one with the cracked screen into the bricked one. Save the rest of the parts (speakers..usb/charging port,cameras..etc) for spares.

I'm going to try it today, thanks
Took me 20 minutes and it was up n running
Okay I swapped the board, everything works as it should except for I have no mobile networks at all.
I have flashed a couple different radios, Roms...still no signal.
I tore the phone down again and double checked all connections. Everything was tight. Still nothing...
So I then swapped out the board at the bottom and still nothing.
IDK whats causing this...but it's driving me nuts.
Any Idea's??

With damaged phones it could be anything. Reset apn to default then choose a network operator..if not that I would start from scratch and Odin back to stock. From there start to troubleshoot all possibilities.

When I first swapped boards it was stock. Booted right up like it's suppose to.
Then I factory reset it...still no signal.
Tore it all apart again, everything is connected and tight, no stress on anything, all ribbons are where there suppose to be and connected firmly.
Reassembled still nothing...tore it apart again, swapped out the board at the bottom of the phone so now basically it's the entire guts of the 2nd phone that only had a smashed screen in the case of the 1st phone that was bricked.
Then I flashed TWRP through ODIN. It's easier using TWRP than ODIN
Then I reflashed Rogers stock FW 4.1.2...still has circle with line through it instead of signal icon.
ATT Stock FW...same as above.
Then I flashed a couple different radios...still nothing
Then I flashed a couple different 4.2 and 4.3 Roms,it recognizes that there is a SIM inserted as it asks for the network unlock code...(Phone is still locked to Rogers) I don't want to pay to unlock it if its not going to get a signal.
Had buddy over and tried his Rogers Sim and, the APN was set correctly, but it didn't show any network operators as it's not receiving a signal.
Doesn't really make sense

It does if that IMEI is blacklisted. Where did you get the phones? It would seem that the one with the cracked screen has a blacklisted IMEI. If you claimed warranty on one they will have shut down the phone that way. If you bought it off of craigs or ebay and the seller claimed warranty on it they would have shut the phone down that way. You get the idea.

Yes I get the idea and know where you coming from...but it's not possible.
Phone got damaged in a domestic incident. Tough guy knocked it out of her hands, it had a case on it but the digitizer got smashed.
I just happen to have a bricked SR sitting here with a mint screen that worked fine until it got bricked.
So I swapped boards...figured all would be good and I have a functioning Rocket again...NO
Dbl checked the IMEI hereand it's valid as I suspected

Well then it's the modem. It got damaged in the fall. My wife gave hear old Atrix a tea bath once. I pulled the phone apart and dried it in rice for a few days. Put it back together and it booted. Baseband was gone though. So I flashed three different ROMs to it all with the same result. Phone was fine but the modem chip was hosed. Sounds like you have something similar on your device.

I think you're correct!!
Thanks for the input!!
anybody know how much Samsung would charge to restore a imei number? imei comes up when he phone is switched on then the signal goes restart it and null/null comes up. take the battery out put it back in and te imei is back.
thanks james
Seems like something they would repair as a part of the warranty agreement. No idea how much would it cost without one though, sorry.
So, I like others ended up with the pink line issue. Took the device today to my local service centre. They swapped the screen as expected but weirdly, when I got the phone back. It said it was network locked again.
They've assured me all they did was change the screen, but that's clearly not the case as the phone was running what I suspect is a different software.
Does flashing a phone lock it again? I'm completely confused. I've never had a phone lock itself again. Im also slightly concerned. if they took then my bank details, login details, messages etc are all on that NAND memory and I guess unencrypted?
