I think you need to unmount the external SD before removing it...try going into fastboot and running the adb commands for mounting the SD card again, they can be found in several of the guides.
Remember that your Xoom will not view the external SD card as anything but part of the memory...the /external directory to be exact. When you connect to your PC you only see the Xoom and you need to navigate to storage/extrnal....you don't get seperate explorer windows for the internal and for the external SD as you do with most phones.

I formatted my sd card from cwr accidentally after I factory resetted the phone. Now my phone is bricked (white HTC screen) and recovery can't seem find the sd card. I can get to the bootloader and the recovery using the androidcontral 1.3 but since the recovery can't read the sd card I can't do anything. I tried the RUU but I get error less then 30% battery even though its fully charged. I tried to repartition the sd card but I don't know the ext size or the swap. I tried to copy the cleardroid zip to sd card and it seem to do it but the recovery can't find it. I tried to copy pd98img.zip to sd and use hboot but it doesn't seem to read it. Can anyone help?
I would try reformatting your card on a computer. Don't do the quick format if your in windows unchecked that. Make sure it formats to fat32. Put the pd98img.zip on and try again. Your card may have crapped out too try another one if you have it handy. Also while in recovery try mounting and unmounting the SD a couple times under mounts and storage

I flashed my friends G2x Gingerbread with Clockworkmod via NVFlash. After that, I rooted the phone with jboxer's zip. I was going to install EaglesBlood rom but when I booted into recovery and tried making a backup, it said "Can't mount SD Card" and it didn't create the backup.
I had to go into ROM Manager and create the back up and install the rom through there.
Now that the ROM is flashed, I can't use the camera because it says "Please insert an SD card before using the camera."
Also, in the notification bar there is an SD card symbol with a "!" on it and it says "SD card removed. Insert a new one"
What made the phone ask for the SD Card? Was it CWM?

Which card? The internal one that comes with the phone? Because I have an SD card and I put it into my friends G2x and then I was able to use the camera and everything.
The problem is that it's asking for the SD card and without it, the camera doesn't work.
Is an SD card needed to create a backup and flash a new rom? Is there anyway to use the External SD that's in the phone?

The memory in the phone is the internal "sdcard" not the external one. Making backups requires a physical sd card. What good would be making backups to your phone memory and then your phone gets hosed and you cannot access that memeory anymore and poof, backups are gone. Without an sd card the camera should be able to use the internal memory. Check the settings in the camera and make sure it is set to use internal memory. Also, some roms switch the internal "sdcard" and physical sd card around, which can get real confusing. But in recovery the physical sd card is always where the backups go (at least as far as I understand it).
Yeah I got it now. Cm7 does switch the internal SD with the microsd that's why the camera wasn't working, but there's an option to switch them around

CM7 assumes you have a physical sd card and that you want it to be the main memory the phone uses for "sdcard". I personally prefer to leave it as is to avoid confusion. It is just that if you use internal memory and your phone gets borked, you lose everything in the internal memory (a common problem with Galaxy S devices).
Is there an option for this in the Miui (latest) rom? I am having the same problem.
Hi there everyone, I just picked up my Transformer today, and while Im not new to the whole flashing business (done it lots on my Galaxy S) I cant seem to get this working on the tablet. Ive managed to get it rooted and CWM loaded, but every time I try to flash a zip from my sd card its lot letting me mount the sd card.
Was hoping someone would be able to help me out
CWM only read files from the Removable micro sd card and not internal sd card.
Also the removable micro sd need to be in a fat32 format

Are certain microSD cards not compatible? I've currently got one in FAT32 format and it cannot read that either.
Some people have reported problems with using a MicroSD when formatted as Fat32 through windows. Try using an SD card formatting tool. Apparently when formatting an SD Card through windows it doesn't format it correctly.
Also some people say they had to try a few card before one could be read.
I have the card in the phone and it was reading it just fine. I turned the phone on and off and it will not read the SD card now.
I tried to
1. turn it on and off again
2. open the back and re insert the card.
3. I tried to go to settings and mount the card but it says the card is not present
4. I used the card on my PC and it can read it fine.
Thanks for the help
bump?

The sd card my just be broken. Where did you get it from? Was it used before? Send a link of the sd card that you have.
Have you copied the contents of your sd card onto your computer, formatted the sd card to Fat32, then copied those files back onto your sd card?
This should fix you up...
1) Power down phone
2) Remove card
3) Mount the card in a card reader on a Windows machine and have it do an error check (and automatically fix file system errors).
4) While Windows is scanning your card, boot your phone with an empty card slot and then shut it down again after the boot is complete.
5) When Windows has finished repairing the card, reinsert in phone and boot normally. If it was not a physical problem with the card it should work again.

I had nothing on the card and formatted just before I put it in the G 3. It was working for the 1st day. Then it was not working. I then reformatted it again in my pc but it still was not being read.

When I plugged my sd card to my memory card reader, It wants me to reformat the card to be able to use it. I said ok that's easy because I've tried it before but then It says windows unsuccessfully format the sd card. I've tried a lot of things like using the command prompt, device manager etc but to NO avail, I still cannot reformat it. Now I cannot make partitions for my apps. PLease do help me.. thanks.
HOW CAN I REFORMAT MY SD CARD?
Most likely, you might have write protection on. You can disable it by getting the Micro SD card adapter and sliding it back to off.

Or try formating it on android itself.
For me also windows couldnt format but android did it..

Ditto what sanjay said.
I bought a new sd card for my dinc. I tried to format it but Windows said it could not format. I was able to use the card anyway as I later learned that the card came pre-formatted.
