[Q] [POLL] How long have you been running a GB rom. - Thunderbolt General

A lot of folks (including myself) are worried that the GB roms will brick their TBs. So if we can get a general idea of how many folks are running GB roms and radios I think that will help.
Please simply supply-

ROM: BAMF Gingermix 2.0 Beta 5
RADIO: 2.01.605.0
KERNEL: Imo lean test. 2.8.2
Been running it for exactly one week today.
Experience has been flawless. GPS locks on every time now within 5 seconds, even in 95% of buildings. Signal is much improved, 3G/4G handoff is perfect. I know of the risk of bricking but it really made this phone ideal for me, i'll take my chances

Jumping back to GB now, I just can't take it anymore.
ROM: Das BAMF
Kernel: Imoseyon's
Radio: GB Radio
Experience: Will update later. If any indications of when I first tried GB (The initial leak) wonderful.

Bamf 2.0.5 since the day it was released
Latest IMO lean kernel
Never had any problems, amazing battery life, no reboots

BAMF 2.05 Remix for 2 days
kernel that came with BAMF 2.05
No problems. Battery life about the same as BAMF 1.7. No reboots.

Since leak came out.
Latest imo kernel
My Rom or gingervitis ix. Depends on the day.

Good thread.
I ran GB and the new radio basically since leak. However, I ran back to froyo the day all hell broke loose. I am back on GB as of about 2 hours ago.

I just flashed Das BAMF preview 2.
We'll see what happens.

Been running GB since day one. Right now I'm on BAMF preview 2 with the new radio. Kernel 2.8.2 test 4 from Imo.

ROM: Das BAMF 2.05
RADIO: GB Radio
KERNEL: Latest GB test radio from Imoseyon.
How long has it been continuously running on your TB: I've been running it since maybe around May 19.
BRIEF experience: Its pretty stable. I've had maybe 1-2 random reboots a while ago but now i never get any. The camera used to be very laggy camera but Imoseyon's kernels seems to have fixed the issue. I get similar battery life compared to Froyo Roms. GPS is very quick.

When your says SEM08G is the key do you mean that chipset has positive responsive to gingerbread and less likely to brick, never figured out what if that is the case?

2.8.2GB Test4
GB Radio Alpha MR1 & as of today GB Radio MR2
Same Chip Set: SEM08G
Have had one reboot since running GB since it came out, love it! I have swithced between several of the GB ROMS and had no issues. I am particular to DasBAMF.

Bamf 2.0.5
the latest leaked mr2 radio
Imoseyon-3.0.1GBtest1, been running since its released and is working flawlessly.
my experience has been amazing, i couldn't wish for anything better. and i have been running Bamf 2.x.x since it was first released. and i have been getting insane battery life, usually 15 hours with 50% battery left to spare.

These seem like nice results, going to installa a gb rom then

With cm7 and the amc chip fix implemented I have achieved 2 days on a single charge. A few MMS, plenty of internet browsing(switching from edge to 3g only when i use the internet), at least 400 text messages, a few calls, and about 2 hours of accumulated music playback.
Brightness was at 50%, and wifi was always on.
cm7 10 characters
I installed CoreDroid 4 w\ Sense and Gingerbread last night... kinda loving it a lot right now. It's revamped UI for MMS without the stupida#$ slideshow is soooooo much better. That slideshow really annoyed the hell out of me!
I just got my Inspire yesterday an ms I'm loving it. Although rooting was not as easy as rooting my Evo or Atrix, I was able to get it rooted.
I'm currently running the Rooted Stock ROM and I'm getting great battery life. I haven't flashed any custom kernels either, just the one that came with the rom. Normally about this time on my evo, the battery is almost dead. But not this Inspire...this phone is a beast! I made a couple of calls, sent numerous text and been checking FB every now and then. All I want the phone to do is last at least the 8 hours that I'm at work. Anything after that would be fantastic.

I have run both Revolutions, CoreDroid, CM7, buzz sense, leeDroid, and Dilli.
Before i say my favorite and why, I want to express that i might not have had the right rom/kernel/radio combo on some of my installs, so this is by no means a dig on ANY of them just my inexperience.
My favoirte by far is leeDroid. It has had the best balance for my phone on Battary, UI, speed, and sound.
On some of the GB roms I had some lag, especially after unlocking. On Dilli i had an extreme battary drain. I did like CoreDroid also. I have yet to try an MIUI rom as i enjoy the leedorid so much. I have never had a rom on my phone for this long.
I am actually suprised i haven't seen more activity on his thread, nor mention of his rom in the forum sticky!
Anyway, Thanks to all the chefs in the kitchen!! I have enjoyed all your roms and will be trying them all again!

"switching from edge to 3g" Do tell! Can this be done on a stock rooted rom or only on cm7? Thx
I was originally using the RCMixHD as well, but then i decided to switch it up to CoreDroid V5.1. I must say that i'm loving the custom ROMs, and must again give a shout out to the awesome teams that put these things together. I don't think i could ever go back to stock, especially now that i have Gingerbread!
That being said, my battery life has been inconsistent at best, and insanely pathetic at other times. I'm still trying to figure out what exactly is the major cause of my woes. I know when i first flash the ROMs, the battery life is amazing, losing maybe 1% an hour over night. But after i configure it, install all the apps and what not, i lose on average of 3-4% an hour, in airplane mode & with NO use at all. When i actually use it, it jumps up by a factor of 3x.
So basically, i still need to find the battery sweet spot by getting rid of the apps/settings that kill my battery. I'm open to suggestions!
Use CURRENT WIDGET (app store) to find and kill the apps that drain your battery!!

Wind Mobile Optimus 2X (P999) users UNITE

Call out to all Wind Mobile Optimus 2X (P999 G2x) users! I wanted to start a thread to share our UNIQUE experiences with our O2x-G2x phone, that is unique to Wind and our network here in Canada. I know there will be overlap with other threads, but I thought it would useful to have information in one place.
Let's start talking about our experiences with:
- ROMs and Kernels
- Common Issues/bugs
- Network/Reception
- Accessories
- etc, etc.
I'll give it start:
ROM
MIUI 1.8.19 (Current - jface release)
Kernel: Dragon
(+) Slickest GUI out there, fast, most features, very iPhone-ish
(-) Battery life blows (but better with Dragon kernel and Juice Defender), very iPhone-ish
Previous
- MIUI 1.8.26 (whitehawkx release)
(-) data does not work (abandoned)
- EaglesBlood 1.08
(+) rock solid ROM, best battery life
(-) a few FC bugs, very plain vanilla
- CM7 dailies
(+) fast, better features than stock
(-) quite a few minor bugs and annoyances, battery life is OK
- Stock Froyo
(+) pretty stable
(-) slower, BLAH it's stock
COMMON ISSUES
Sleep of Death while on charger - need battery pull to reset (happens on all ROMs)
GPS locktime FIXED - changed SUPL server to supl.google.com
Crappy battery life - using Juice Defender and CPU tuner
NETWORK
Solid for downtown Toronto - some issues with indoors
Canada Roaming on Rogers works out of the box
US Roaming on T-mobile works out of the box
ACCESORIES
Soft touch firm plastic case from Pacific mall $6
micro-HDMI cable and external battery pack from Monoprice (not happy with either)
extra wall charger and car charger from eBay (jury still out)
Looking forward to the feedback of others on Wind.
Your phone is not unique. It is not an O2X in any way. It is exactly the same as the T-Mobile G2X with the Qualcomm baseband chip. The only difference is you have a Wind Mobile branded ROM with less bloatware. Don't confuse your device with an O2X. Any developments for the O2X will never apply to your device. You can use the KDZ updater to load the T-Mobile GB ROM to solve many of your problems. Then when the Wind Mobile update comes out and someone posts the KDZ file you can run the KDZ program again to install the new Wind Mobile GB ROM.
OP wasn't saying that the phone is unique, he was sharing his experience with different ROMs and Wind Mobile network. All the threads on XDA seem to be related to T-Mobile so I do appreciate this thread.
What's up fellow WIND users. I was just wondering if you guys could point me to a step-by-step to load a gingerbread ROM? It's been a year since I last did this stuff (used to have a rooted Nexus One) so everything is a bit rusty .
Also, how's the battery life on your rooted 2x's? My stock 2x lasts about a day with heavy use, which is not bad by smartphone standards i guess. Im hopin to get a bit better battery life with a gingerbread ROM (any suggestions which one to flash?).
Thanks all!
Btw, I'm trying to install clockwork recovery mod and i'm on the step where I have to choose my phone. Is the WIND model the T-mobile G2x or the standard LG Optimus 2x?
EDIT: figured it out

OK please dis-regard my previous posts. I've figured out pretty much everything I needed to know about the rooting, backing up of roms, flashing etc...
Now my final question.
Which ROM would you guys recommend at the moment? I'm definitely looking for a gingerbread ROM, and here are the things that are important to me: stability, speed, and working video calling via Gtalk. Does the CM7 nightlies fit this criteria? What about MIUI? That MIUI interface looks sweet.
Thanks everyone!

Used roms:
Stock rooted froyo - extremely stable and fast. Battery good. Rocked this when cm7 were still fresh and were giving me reboots.
CM7 Nightlies- stable, fast, nice customization options. Battery about the same as stock, Not much ui things in it tho.
WEAPON G2X - stable, fast, battery good, awesome customization of launchers and lockscreens.
So far I've used those, I know there's more and kernels but I haven't played around with that yet. So far this beast killed everything I threw at it so iverclocking is unnecessarry at this point.

OK update on the Sleep of Death (SOD) issue. FIRST is anyone else experiencing this issue. After some further observations, I'm quite certain SOD happens when the phone is on the charger, connected on Wifi-n, connected Wind network. I does NOT happen when I'm on Wifi, but connected to Wind Away (rogers) as I was in Quebec for a week and it worked fine. Nor does it happen if I'm connected to Wind with 3G data and Wifi off. I wonder if this is an issue with our version of the Baseband? Is Wifi managed by the Baseband or is it in the Tegra?
Also curious what people are getting as battery life. For me:
MIUI: lasts 12-15hr with moderate/heavy use - but using juice defender
Eagleblood: last 12-15hr with moderate/heavy use - not using juice defender
Stock: last 10-12hr
CM7: last 9-12hr
I guess, would get similiar battery life if I tried juice defender for all ROM. I'm pretty sure MIUI would not last past 8hrs without JD.

I'm still rocking MIUI, and it will give you everything you need. But you will need to purchase Juice Defender Ultimate to get your battery through the day.
Otherwise I really like Eaglesblood based on OTA 2.3.3 Gingerbread. It's a no-frills ROM compared to MIUI. I just don't remember if Gtalk video works.
WIND user here. Just signed up 2 weeks ago. In my area i consistently get around 4-5 Mbps down and 0.5 Mbps up. However, I think they installed a new tower or did some upgrades in my area last night, because now I'm getting around 7 Mbps down. All speeds are dependent on time of day/network congestion of course. But from my research and other users' experiences, I found WIND to be consistently faster than Mobilicity which is why I chose WIND instead.

Wow, that's fast. I'm a bit surprised as I live directly across the street from Wind's head office and I don't think I ever measured more than 3Mbps down. I get 16 ASU signal, but I guess being downtown and all the Wind employee's there the network is always pretty busy.

Stock LG Froyo 2.2 camera? It's actually better than the stock Gingerbread 2.3 camera and CM7 camera. I do think the MIUI camera is faster startup and focus and has touch to focus as well.
I've also tried Camera360, it has a lot of cool effects, but it takes awhile to start-up and select the right menu/settings and then take a pic.
Yup, I'm currently running the stock froyo ROM (but rooted). Actually the stock camera has touch to focus, but you actually have to hold the focus area for about a second to change the target. So it's more like hold-to-focus. I've seen the MIUI camera implementation and I like it better. It has a much more pleasant and simple interface.
Just got this phone recently from Wind and found some nice deals on accesories.

Throttled Data Speeds with 2.3.4

I've been messing with 2.3.4 and the latest radios and in places where I get 40+mbps I've been pulling 10mbps max. I have a feeling each radio update fixes connectivity but messes up the data performance.
Just reverted back to rooted OTA froyo 2.2.1 with 627r radio and the speeds are back to normal.
Anyone else seeing the same issue with the new OTA?
I can confim the reduced data speeds. My phone updated by itself.
I used to get steady 20mbps, now I'm pressed to pass 9mbps.
I will say though, the upload has improved.

I've ran over 6,000 tests over the last six months and this is 100% noticeable to me. Now back to froyo and stock radios gives me exactly what I've been getting before. Not sure if I could keep stock froyo radios and one of the gingerbread ROMs..

I don't mean to piss in your corn flakes, but I'm NOT seeing this. Not that speed tests even report remotely accurate numbers. Most of the time my downloads are WAY to fast to be supported by the numbers I get back on many of them. I have no issues getting 35 to 42 Mbit out to New York.
Allow me to explain.
Buffers in the Froyo kernel were outrageous and misleading. They caused tests to be misleading, and basically false.
The Gingerbread kernel has more reasonable buffer levels. Hence what you see is more accurate.
I can make a kernel mod that will change the buffers to see that you are getting 100 down, and 50 up. Doesn't make it true.

That would explain the guy who posted screen shots suggesting he was getting some stupid number like 518Mbit down.

Actually I happened to have a Pantech UML290 AirCard and when swapping SIM from Thunderbolt, I'm getting the same exact speeds as what I see on my bolt. So at the locations where I'm seeing 50-60mbps I get them on both my computer AND my Bolt using Froyo and stock radio.
Yesterday, same location, 53mbps on my computer, 9mbps on Gingerbread Bolt.
Not cool.

Guys, just listen to Adrynalyne, he knows what he is talking about. If not, stay on Froyo, enjoy decreased performance and battery life but as long as you get 40MB down speed then who cares. >.>

I get all that except the fact that downloading using pantech I get 6.4MBytes/sec vs gingerbread radios where I get 2 max usb tethered to my pc. It used to be around 6MB/sec as well.
Look I'm not trying to downplay anything here, I'm glad that people are happy with gingerbread, I'm just reporting my own findings and sharing my recorded data with you. I would love to have both, but the major reason I bought bolt is the network performance...

You must have special service.
Most Bionic users are only seeing 9-12 as well.

Serial data transfer rates cannot be equated accurately to megabytes per second.
I always thought the old numbers were wonky. Speed tests on the TB would always show ~20Mb while my wifi connected Xoom would report ~9-10Mb.
Now, both the TB and the Xoom report ~9-10Mb.

[MODEM][ODIN] EP4P Modems

For anyone who wants to flash just the EP4P Modems only. All radios are independent of rom version.
I take no credit for this whatsoever, as it was simply pulled from the most recent leak by P3Droid. Flash at your own risk! If you need to be explained how to do it you most likely shouldn't!

Seems to be working great! Up/down is 12MB/9MB. Sometimes I get 30MB/10MB, but my average is 23MB/7MB. I'm not complaining. Thanks!
Been using this modem build for almost a week now...so far these are the clear gingerbread favorite in my opinion. great data speeds and almost no 4g to 3g drop-offs. i'd definitely give it a try over any of the other gingerbread modems.
Better Wifi
I installed this an have already noticed a drastic improvement in Wi Fi signal. Thanks!
I am getting the garble robotic voice crap on this modem anybody else have that issue im using Humble 5 at the moment.
I've been running these with the Humble package, and haven't been getting good results. Data drops and slower speeds. EP1W seems best IMO.
Gotta be better than my data on and off for days.Gonna try it again.

I still get a little robot voice too. Maybe not as bad as it was. However the terribly annoying cut in/out seems to be gone for me.
Flash radios and no data coverage.
I've tried other radios and every time I lose data. I'm I missing something?
Odin modem and everything passes fine. Once phone reboots I lose data coverage.

Well it took a while to get into download mode, but finally and this puppy is installed. Like someone said, there is a huge increase in WIFi signal and the 3g signal is holding mostly steady at -95 dbm which is excellent in my house. It usually is and -105 or -115 dbm.

[Q] Why is "Android OS" draining my battery? [Resolved]

Here are some screenshots of my Battery Usage and as you can see my battery is just horrible:

I have done some research into the Android OS draining the majority of the battery and didn't really find anything with the SGS4G, however found the issue in the Galaxy Nexus, Samsung Galaxy SL i9003, Galaxy Note GT-N7000, and the Samsung Infuse 4G forums, and I am sure there is probably more..
Out of all those forums this is the only one that seemed like it could have a solution linking it to:
1. Google backup transport
2. Organizer widget

My only problem, I have neither of those on my phone.
I was hoping that maybe somebody here could help me diagnose the issue. For the longest time I just have thought my battery is getting old and isn't holding a charge as long, or I just use my phone too much. However after watching my Battery Usage over the past couple days makes me wonder if there isn't another issue here.
I am currently running RaverX3X's amazing Valhalla BlackEdition Final with the Booster and FBis251's bhundven's SMS KJ6 v0.2.0 Kernel. I also have installed the BraviaHack and am using the KG4 Modem. I am able to post logs or anything that can possible help. I have used thomas.raines 1-Clink Gremlin Remover following each step to the "T" with no luck of fixing the issue.
I have attached more Battery Usage Stats as well in case they might help.
I'm pretty sure it's your kernel, try antonx kernel, it has better batter life

I will have to give that try, do you happen to know what kernels are known for providing the best battery life? I guess I can always search around and see lol.

Upgrade to build3 of VB-FB which comes with beta5 of antonx's kernel plus other fixes.

I'll have to give that a shot. Right now I'm testing battery usage with airplane mode activated, and the screen off for the next 8 hours. I'm logging battery usage with the BetterBatteryStats app, to see if I can pin point the problem in the first place.

Well you may already have your answer but just incase
GR>FB's VB (Or Other)
But really at this point it looks like its a kernel issue.
Good luck

Thanks guys, I have pretty much resolved the issue as I have switched Kernels and am no longer experiencing huge battery loss from anything other then the Display which is just plain normal. I still plan to update over to FBis251's version of ValhallaBlack as I have been keeping an eye on it, and debating when to make the switch.
[On a side note] I'm still not hundred percent sure why the Kernel was giving me this issue to begin with. If I had more experience with Android development debugging I'd love to dig deeper into this issue. However though since it doesn't seem to be a huge issue among other users in the SGS4G forums, and it is easily fixed by using another Kernel I don't really see the need.
Thanks again FBis251, and m0bstr.
Problems with Android OS with Gingerbread and Froyo
I have now encountered battery drainage problems on two different Samsung phones. For a long time my Samsung Captivate ATT running Froyo 2.2 was killing my battery. I was about to buy a new phone. I touched base with Samsung and decided to back up my phone and do the factory wipe.
After the reset and the loss of my apps, the phone seems to be working ok. Even a battery which constantly appeared to be dead, is now working fine and holding a charge.
Today another phone the Samsung Glide ATT running Gingerbread seems to have caught the problem and Android OS is using 25% of the the battery. This is ridiculous.
Normally, about 75% is for display and OS doesn't even show up.
Another person at work had an Android exhibiting similar problems today. This problem seems to be pretty widespread if I know three people with this problem. Feedback appreciated.
Maybe "One Power Guard" can help you downloaded from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1889740
