I recently started using Google Music. Previously I had all my music files on the internal memory of my INC. I had just copy / pasted them from iTunes but now it looks like Google will sync that music automatically when I download new music to iTunes.
But I noticed quite a number of duplicate songs recently. Is Google placing duplicated songs on the SD Card somewhere? Should I delete the music folder from the internal memory or is it maybe just a fluke for these songs? Doesn't seem to be across the board though.
Google music beta has been pretty buggy so far. As for your duplicated, it might be because your tags don't match between what's in the cloud and what's on your phone. I guess you could remove them from your phone just to see what happens. Worst case is that you have to reload them.

I had the same issue. Here's what google said:
Albums stored locally on your Android devices may appear more than once
during uploading. After uploading has completed, Music Beta will recognize
and combine these album listings.
If an album is appearing multiple times in your library after uploading
has completed, this is likely because the 'Album Artist' field in the
metadata for your album's listings is either blank or appears differently
for each listing.
To combine these listings, simply edit the 'Album Artist' field so that
it's identical for each album listing. Instructions for editing metadata
can be found in the Music Beta help center at
I had the same issue so I uninstalled the program uploaded all my music and deleted off my sd card and internal memory and have had no issues...but do remember it is still in beta.

im seeing kind of the same issue over here, except mine is duplicating songs in playlists in google music. i have 0 gigs of songs on my phone and all the music is coming from the same itunes. It will just put the playlist of songs twice in the playlist. kind of annoying.
i had the same problem with some albums i had on SD card.
all i did erase the albums from card.
I am having the problem were duplicates are showing on the web version of Google Music. I have no duplicate songs in iTunes and they all have the correct metadata. Most of the duplicated songs appear to be ones I purchased or got for free from Google.
I do not want to use Amazon cloud as it's not free.
If you have all the music on your couch with music manager attached, if deleted off Google Music online. Would music resync with music manager?

Bi-Directional syncing is also a huge problem on google music.

So I've noticed that the Google Music offline cache is located in /sdcard/Android/data/com.google.android.music/cache/music. This should be accessible to other apps, and in fact if I browse to that location with PowerAMP I can see the downloaded files and play them perfectly fine. However, on both my DX (GB) and Xoom, the system media scanner refuses to pick these up, so they never show up in the library for any apps but the official one. I've tried rebooting and using apps to run a manual scan, but no luck.
Has anyone gotten this to work?
Forget the bump, I figured it out. Turns out there are .nomedia files in /sdcard/Android/data/ and /sdcard/Android/data/com.google.android.music/cache/music. Removed both of those and the scanner now picks it up. No more hand copying music for me!
Thanks for the info.. does anybody know for how long or how much space the Google Music cache is limited to? This is great for roadtrips.. but i don't want GM to fill my SD Card.

Good to know. Does anyone know if/how I can copy music to my phone to make it available via the Google music app without having to pin the songs on my phone and then have it download from the cloud? I have the music files also saved on my computer, but it looks like the music app is renaming the files with some sort of numbering scheme.
I would assume that the online/offline settings are saved in some sort of a database file. This makes me think that if I just copy the music to the google cache folder it is not going to register properly in the google music app. Has anyone tried this, or am I stuck having to download them from the cloud again?

The ID3 tag information is stored in Google Music's database on the phone. The app accesses that database and applies the proper ID3 tags and artwork to the cache files you're talking about.
With all that information added, the app moves the files to a public folder on your sdcard so that the Android Media Service Provider can see the files. The files then become available to any player on the device.

Anyone know a good way to manage music with a g2x??
I have well over 2k songs on my itunes. I have them all on my g2x, but it seems to have a poor music managing system.
Songs/Artists/Playlists are duplicated many times, playlists duplicate the songs within them sometimes, etc.
I'm wondering if theres a good software to manage the music on my phone?

I'm just using Google Play Music as well and transfer my files via mass storage. Now I use the cloud for Google Play Music and just keep a few albums on my SD card. I have no problems with duplicates or any other issues.

I only use this to update the ID Tags of all my songs and add the album picture from the web. Its a bit tricky, but what I do is, when I decide I want to add and album to Google Play I tag and add the picture album then upload them.
I have like 40 gigs of music, and slowly have converted to Google play. I fix the tags and albums as I go. Its worked so far
Sometimes the picture or the album name comes out wrong, have to re-upload or manually correct it once its inside Google. It happens sometimes, especially if mediamonkey can't find the rare song online.

If done right, all the songs will be properly tagged and the album picture inside. Its running better now then when it was called (Google Music). Used to crash alot. The only decision you have is "Make available Offline"
In the end, when its nicely organized, I use Google Play way way more.

I've been using Doubletwist and it copies my playlist from itunes just fine
I use Banshee Media Player. I have it set up to sync one specific playlist. It works in one-click and it even converts my FLAC files on the fly to V9 mp3! Even better, even though I have it set to sync one playlist, it keeps track of which tracks belong to other playlists too. I use it on Ubuntu but I think the sync options work on Windows too.
Edit: It also keeps my media tagged, downloads album art and sorts the files into an [Artist]>[Album] folder structure.
For those of you who have had these problems (which is a number of you, as I found out after a quick search), I had the same problems and found a solution after tinkering about. The alternative, deleting all old music and resyncing, often still gave me problems so I'm hoping this will be helpful. If anyone has found a more elegant solution, please share it.
Step 1: Create a NEW Playlist in iTunes WITH A UNIQUE NAME THAT YOU HAVE NEVER USED BEFORE.
This is important. For whatever reason, the music player will assume a playlist with a name you've used in the past is already synced and it will ignore it. It also has to be a NEW playlist, not an old playlist that you rename. I used "Test1", "Test2", etc. Don't worry, you'll be able to change it to something else later.
Step 2: Add one song to the playlist that you do not actually want in the playlist.
Again, important. When you sync in the next step, the playlist that appears in google music won't contain the song you added.
Step 3: It may take a minute or so for the playlist to appear in the list of playlists to sync; wait until it is visible and then sync the playlist with google music manager.
Step 4: Wait for the Playlist to appear in google music. It will appear as an empty playlist.
Step 5: Remove the song from the playlist in iTunes and wait for the playlist to disappear from the list of playlists to sync in google music manager before syncing the playlists.
Empty playlists are not recognized as syncable so they will eventually disappear from the list of playlists that you can sync.
Step 6: Add ANOTHER song you do not actually want in the playlist
Again, when you resync in the next step, the song will not appear in the playlist on google music.
Step 7: Wait for the playlist to appear in google music manager, and then resync.
Step 8: After the playlist appears again in google music, add all the songs you actually want in the playlists, and sync the music manager.
You might have to sync a couple times and/or wait a couple minutes, but eventually, you will see that the songs are being added to the playlist in google music.
Step 9: After your songs are added, you can rename the playlist both in iTunes and in Google Music. It will still sync properly if you add and/or remove songs from it.
This is really annoying issue that keeps happening ..over and over and over again. Is there no solid fix? Anyone confirm this working without occurring again?
Thanks for posting this but I've tried this and it doesn't appear to work. I get all the way down until the part where I add the music I want on the playlist but my playlist doesn't sync.
Question though, your instructions miss out what to do with the last song you add to your playlist that you don't actually want on the playlist. Should this be deleted before I add the songs I do want on the playlist or after? Also, do I require do to this for all my playlists that have the duplication issue?

My Google music manager would upload the songs, upload the playlist name, but the playlist remains empty. This only started the beginning of this month and its driving me nuts! I use itunes to upload the playlists and I have un and reinstalled both itunes and music mananger several times hoping to solve the issue.
Can anyone shed some hope onto my problem?

This is the same problem I'm having. Google Music Manager will upload all my songs as well as upload the playlist name, but in Google Music, the playlist will remain empty.
Google Music Manager is such a buggy app and has been from the beginning!

Same here. I have tried removing all music and playlists online, clearing app data on my phone and tablet, uninstalling music manager and all preferences and files, created new playlists in iTunes and re-added the songs (even removed all music from iTunes and re-imported it), rebooted, re-installed music manager and tried to upload things again, everything uploads but my playlists are *STILL* empty. I have tried this from Mac Mavericks and even Windows 8.1. It was working perfectly fine a couple weeks ago, wonder if Google updated something that broke the playlists from populating. I sent them an e-mail, but haven't heard anything. Granted, it's a free service and you get what you pay for, it's frustrating to see a service with such great potential fall short because of a few bugs. I kind of wish they would come out with their own offline music player that would interface directly online, so I can get rid of iTunes once and for all!

In order to test Google Music me and my friends put together a massive amount of music files. Some of them were already in Googles databse, so no direct upload was necessary, some of them were not so that i had to upload them.
So, now to the "funny fact". Google Music says now, there is no more space for me to upload music files. But the website and the android app shows me "only" 18077 files of 20.000 max.
So, can anyone tell me, why Gmusic stopps the upload even the limit hasn't reached yet? The trash is empty and the only thing I did was to upload 10 albums on an other gmusic account (normale ones, so 10-12 songs per cd).

For some reason, some users reported that they were able to upload more than 20,000 songs. The numbers varies from one to another. So you're one of those unlucky ones I guess
So, today i deleted some albums of my gmusic account... just to look what will happens...
I deleted about 100 Songs, moved the "new" albums from my synced folder away and then back... 2 albums were uploaded, then again, the message or warning came back, i have too many songs in my account...
ok, so i deleted 200 more. 200!! and deleted them in the junk too... account shows 200 less... i moved again just one album into the sync folder, refreshed gmusic, restartet the upload app... but again, too many songs in my library... what the hell is that?
I recently added all my music (roughly 90GB of music) to a Sandisk 128 GB Class 10 microSD. I put this microSD into my phone and my music players were unable to locate all the music. I don't know how, but at one point, all my music was finally scrollable. After some tinkering with the ".nomedia" file, all my album artwork showed up in my gallery. I've since then installed QuickPic to deal with that annoyance. However, I have been unable to look at all my music again. The majority of my music are in one big folder with no name, or in Shuttle, every song in it is called "null - null". How can I restore my phone's ability to view my entire library of music?
I've yet to try deleting everything off the card, and then retransferring, but that's a real pain in the butt and I would rather do that as a final option (though I don't know if that would even help).
I have tried deleting my music players' data and uninstalling/reinstalling and restarting my phone and unmounting/mounting my SD card, but still no luck.
Oh, and I am rooted on QF6 Hybrid Nougat ROM.
Sounds like the files are corrupt. To test this plug your phone into your pc and try playing the music with a media player on your pc. If the music plays, then it is not corrupt.
I had a similar issue a while back and it was because my music didn't transfer correctly and some of it wouldn't play.
