[Q] Getting "upgraded" to a Galaxy S - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

So I currently have a T-Mobile MyTouch 4G that I really like, I have Cyanogen Mod 7.0.3 running on it, and I get great battery life. I have some dust under the glass, so I called T-Mobile and they said that they would happily exchange it, but that they don't have the MyTouch 4G and that they will "upgrade" me to the Samsung Galaxy S. Looking at the forums it doesn't seem like there is much development for these phones. Should I tell T-Mobile that I want a different phone? or are there custom ROMS that I can run on the Galaxy S? I really like the 16 or so hours of battery life I currently get, plus how fast the phone is. Thanks.

Sgs4g is about the same speed.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App

The phones are about the same speed but the mytouch4g has 768 mb of ram and the sgs4g onlu has 514... The mytouch 4g also is rated higher on quadrant. But imo the sgs4g is gear more for adults. They are still developing roms. The only one I know of that is actually stable is the deodexed stock kd1 by whitehawxx. There will be alot more soon especially now that drhonk has gotten the test sgs4g.
Sent from my legit SGS4G.
Rom: whitehawxx's deodexed KD1
Kernel: drhonk's bali v1.4uv
Tweaks: fugu tweak, darkyy's ram booster
Theme: aerodkng's gbtheme v7.2
OC: 1.2Ghz (stable)

U dont have to lie the sgs4g gets MUCH better framerates if thats what you were asking...for some reason the quadrant scores arent as high but I can assure you that the hummingbird has a much better graphics card than the snapdragon plus it has a little bit bigger screen so I think that it is a bit of an upgrade and when it does start getting more custom roms it will just be the super phone that it should be

no prob seriously love the graphics on the phone they are what you would call STUNNING!

antutu is a benchmark lol the sgs4g scores pretty high in it because it weighs the points out a lot on the graphics

Is my phones gpu really still faster than an adreno 205? I thought that was suppose to be HTCs galaxy slayer.

I am also one of the Mytouch 4G too Galaxy S 4g "upgrade" cause when my MyTouch 4g Dies overnight while sitting on my Desk charging...
So far I like the phone, but it does miss a few things the mytouch 4g had. Overall Good phone so far and MUCH easier to root than the MyTouch 4g.

Cool thanks for all the feedback.

#1..... You're about 2 weeks late on this announcement.
#2.... This is an android development forum, not a gossip forum about other phones.
#3.... I'm super stoked about the g2x too, but let's take the conversation to the thread already started on the galaxy s 4g general forum.

Screw that phone. Ill stick with my phone which i can actually use the entire day without needing to carry around a spare battery or charger. From reading the lg optimus 2x forums apparently that phone has absolutely TERRIBLE battery life. I can understand why too, its using a 15000mah battery with hspa+ and dual core. Just look at the atrix, it has a 19000 mah battery and yet its battery life is close to our phone which is not impressive to begin with.

Also if you are going to say that the G2x has 2x core fine you win that point... But you got to remember that the SGS line of blood that this phone comes from is almost a year old ... Screen wise we have a better one than the G2x... internal ram yea G2x may have more power... But i bet dev here in XDA will make magic... The final thing i got to say is beware of the SGS 2 with 1.2Ghz 2x core and there will be also a 3D version!
So G2x owners of just smack talkers ( i joke ) you may win this up coming battle but will win Wrestlemania! ( lol... )

1) Bloat

1,3,4,5 = Fixed with new rom's.
2= Have you tried taking pictures with "night mode"? I would (and have) put this camera up against any camera phone w/flash any day (or night ).
And yes, IMHO, the screen is a huge improvement over similar phones. I held mine next to a mtg4g, HD7 and a g2, no comparison. Now idk about the newer phones.
I loved my Vibrant, and the sgs4g has everything I wished the Vibrant had ( -Bionix)

The G2X has 4.0 Inches, WVGA 16M Colors, TFT Capacitive Touchscreen I will go to T-Mobile and Verizon today and compare my phone with the other phones, see if I can see a big difference or not
Night mode sucks let's not be fanatics now, no flash = BAD PICTURES There is a reason why flash was invented there is no workaround for that
So let's keep this a matter of facts Flash is better than No Flash That's a fact

To infuse or not to infuse?

Currently using and loving my dell streak just curiouse how you infuse goers are enjoying your experience and Dec support Hearing the device Is smooth and it looks to have good support already. Curious about the current roms and what to expected from each, from reviews the infuse averages 1100 to 1300 on quadrant which is OK I guess I get around 2200 on my streak , just curious of the infuses speed on custom roms vs. Stock.
I'm asking because I have an upgrade and would enjoy a phone with good Dev suppprt

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA Premium App
don't put too much faith in benchmarks. fun to compare but otherwise should be left to fine tuning settings and finding a devices strengths and weaknesses for figuring out how to best exploit its power for things like game programming . it has little relevance to every day activities.
the lowish benchmark numbers come from the slow file system and the somewhat poor floating point performance. I don't know how much floating point you run on you device (crunching numbers) but being that these processors have dedicated fpu's it is not a general measure of performance. qualcomm just has a better fpu. samsung has the best gpu. play h.264 movies @1080p on both devices and see which fairs better! with 2.3.3 the video decoding gets even faster increasing quadrant score by up to 1000 points as seen on my captivate beating even the xoom tablet with a score of over 3000 which is just as irrelevant as the infuse/streak quadrant comparison.
I might even skip the SGS2. Loving the phone and the big screen.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA Premium App
I also came from the Streak. The screen and camera quality are enough for me to never look back.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App
And another convert here. Very happy with the phone. Only thing I'm missing is the little extra screen size.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA Premium App
I absolutely love my Infuse. The one thing that bothered me for about 5 days was the relatively low DPI of the screen, but between LCD Density tweaks and a new font... and perhaps just allowing my eyes to get used to it, I never notice the pixelation that plagued me at first.
EDIT: Oh, and to me the SGS2 would be a downgrade. Dual-core procs don't make up for a smaller screen.
If you're coming from the Dell Streak to the Infuse, not much difference except slightly faster processor and 1/2 an inch smaller screen. Battery life is the same. Samsung has it's Touch Whiz on top of android. However, rooting and unlocking this phone was easy.
Why would u compare quadrant from a stock infuse to a modded streak? Pointless.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA Premium App
Ya i know my quadrant scores are pretty irrelevant even with my scores im sure the infuse is much smoother and faster even with lower scores? I think i might stop by my at&t store and check 1 out

832 running stock CM7 @ 190 density. No custom kernels.
My score was on par with what it said Sensations were. I've heard CM7 benchmarks are usually lower compared to straight stock roms.
This also seems to heavily rely on browser technology. I wonder if the SGS2 marks higher with its acceleration?

Yea, the hardware accelerated browser definitely helps. Whether anyone likes Samsung or not, they are proving to be the biggest innovator in Android today. Not to mention, since the Hummingbird was introduced, they have always had some of the best processors.

Hmm. I think this benchmark has major issues. Under system info it claims the second cpu has zero as its speed but reads the first one correctly. I will try it out again after they fix dual core support.
Edit... looking a little closer explains the scores. It is a biased hack test produced by a rival chip maker.

Calm down everyone. It would not be the first time there was a bias in a benchmark. I played with it for three seconds, noticed it does not even recognize the second nvidia chip properly and said something about it. Now did Qualcomm just make a crappy benchmark or did they do it on purpose?
Why does it show zero for the speed of the second chip? That's all I wanted to know. Apparently you do not have the answer.

Of course it's a flawed test. Scores are all over the place. By the way...Don't act like this is the only flawed test out there. There pretty much all flawed right now since most of them don't know how to use the Sensations processor correctly. It's the only CPU that throttles down to a single core and most of the benchmarks are only using one of it's cores.

I feel outdated

I have had this phone for only a few months and I love it, but I get jealous when i see the new dual core phones like the Hercules come out, because I know that my phone is now below average with only a 1700 quadrant score

Don't feel outdated... I have a MT4G and whether I'm running Sense 3.0, CM7 or MIUI any app opens in 1/10 of a second. And I have yet to find a game that slows my phone down. And yours has even a better processor than mine.
So dual core isn't much of a jump from high end single cores.

eHow does the camera suck? Who cares about ics? There's at least 5 different builds here. I beg to differ on the cores being utilized efficiently, now with the update everything runs pretty efficiently. Battery life will show that. Its so hard having grown up in the 1970's -1980's to understand how younger generations appreciate nothing and expect perfection. It has to do with the internets. When I got my Atari 2600 in 1980, I was sooooo happy with it. There was no forum to chew the Developers asses. Not to mention, its just rude. Could you imagine the 2600 being released today? 90% of ya would kill yourselves.

eHow does the camera suck? Who cares about ics? There's at least 5 different builds here. I honestly don't even like ICS that much, Gingerbread works fine for me, it's blazing fast.

Well for one I care about the "benchmark shizz"
But its always been about how the phone runs. That's why they invented benchmark programs to score each phones performance so you can compare how the hardware/software combination you are using performs. Using that tool you can actually get a tangable number for each setup you run therefore giving you the higher number for higher performance. So think about what you say before you go contradicting yourself in public.

Why F*ck numbers? Pretty sure binary is numbers..... you got a bad attitude.
Pin it to Win it.

Agree with Chevy, attitude is kinda poor haha. Especially with no rebuttal to what was said, just a "Hehe" looks like you just wanted some attention.
