#1..... You're about 2 weeks late on this announcement.
#2.... This is an android development forum, not a gossip forum about other phones.
#3.... I'm super stoked about the g2x too, but let's take the conversation to the thread already started on the galaxy s 4g general forum.
Thanks!

Screw that phone. Ill stick with my phone which i can actually use the entire day without needing to carry around a spare battery or charger. From reading the lg optimus 2x forums apparently that phone has absolutely TERRIBLE battery life. I can understand why too, its using a 15000mah battery with hspa+ and dual core. Just look at the atrix, it has a 19000 mah battery and yet its battery life is close to our phone which is not impressive to begin with.

Sure yall say the SGS4G is dead once the G2x comes out but with what facts?
Also if you are going to say that the G2x has 2x core fine you win that point... But you got to remember that the SGS line of blood that this phone comes from is almost a year old ... Screen wise we have a better one than the G2x... internal ram yea G2x may have more power... But i bet dev here in XDA will make magic... The final thing i got to say is beware of the SGS 2 with 1.2Ghz 2x core and there will be also a 3D version!
So G2x owners of just smack talkers ( i joke ) you may win this up coming battle but will win Wrestlemania! ( lol... )

I don't like the Samsung Galaxy S 4G
1) Bloat
2) no camera flash
3) little RAM
4) only 180 MB of internal memory
5) no custom kernels yet
The screen might be the only thing good plus the internet speed
The CPU is slow too
I don't care how good this thing is if its not amoled or better ill pass

Is there a BIG difference between AMOLED and standard screens? I would like to go to T-Mobile, and then see the difference between two devices. Which is a good T-Mobile device that doesn't has AMOLED?

1,3,4,5 = Fixed with new rom's.
2= Have you tried taking pictures with "night mode"? I would (and have) put this camera up against any camera phone w/flash any day (or night ).
And yes, IMHO, the screen is a huge improvement over similar phones. I held mine next to a mtg4g, HD7 and a g2, no comparison. Now idk about the newer phones.
I loved my Vibrant, and the sgs4g has everything I wished the Vibrant had ( -Bionix)

The G2X has 4.0 Inches, WVGA 16M Colors, TFT Capacitive Touchscreen I will go to T-Mobile and Verizon today and compare my phone with the other phones, see if I can see a big difference or not
Night mode sucks let's not be fanatics now, no flash = BAD PICTURES There is a reason why flash was invented there is no workaround for that
So let's keep this a matter of facts Flash is better than No Flash That's a fact

samsung captivate display just blew me away and that phone is older then our mt4g's. Yea the mt4g owns the captivate in other areas but side 2 side while i was outside letting my kids play i couldnt read or see a damn thing on my mt4g compared to the captivates superior amoled display. Its just ridiculous and kinda embarrasing actually. I think my choice for the samsung hercules or galaxy s 2 if i go to att b4 merger happens just got easier. I love htc for there superior quality feel and looks of the phone but display while your outside plays a huge factor i think for most anyone considering a smartphone these days. If htc had amoled display i think i would be in heaven lol

actually i got a good display too and i just realized my brightness was set all the way down haha, but im still sold on amoled vs super lcd that the mt4g has. Even with brightness all the way up, side by side the amoled pwns the mt4g display wether its sunny or dark!

I had a friend with a nexus S tell me that my screen was sharper and clearer than his. Didnt make much sense to me seeing as I came from the Vibrant running the latest voodoo kernel. Not saying the MT4G screen isnt great but super amoled is the one of the best screens that I have ever seen.

I cant say i have anything against the hardware of the SG family, but since developement for those phones is kind of, well, shotty, i would NEVER buy a samsung android phone. i mean just look at the sick amount of roms we have to choose from here, then go to some of the SG phones' dev. forums. its a big difference.

Um what? I just got 4.8 while on 3G. I'll test 4G sometime this week when I have it.
I don't like the high white point of S-AMOLED. Everything looks very blue. Plus I feel restricted to use only dark or predominately black backgrounds in order to conserve battery, and web browsing eats battery at a prodigious rate. All that white...
I did enjoy my Vibrant, which I had before my MT4G, mainly because it was a 4" screen, which is my sweet spot, and the SGS's wonderful Wolfson DAC. Sound quality was phenomenal on that phone.
It almost makes me want to pick up a Galaxy S 4G, but the lack of CyanogenMod/AOSP ROMs really does keep me on my Glacier.
Samsung is mopping up their mess they made with the vibrant(at least with developers) when they offered cyanogenmod and team members those free galaxy s 2 phones it was like hey were sorry please hack our phones and put custom roms on it. Thats a big step forward for a company like samsung to take and win over a community, especially with their superior displays and somewhat easier methods of unlocking their phones.

Definitely worth the upgrade. Only thing the Vibrant has over this phone is the Super Amoled. The G2x has a faster processor, 1080p Video recording, front facing camera, 8 megapixel camera, 4g (feels way faster than my myTouch 4g and G2x) one of the loudest speakers I've heard on a smartphone and I've owned numerous of smartphone's (Nexus One, Nexus S, myTouch 4g, G2, Vibrant, HD7 etc.). The screen has a nice curve around the edge that feels so good when swiping across pages, pictures etc. The issues this phone has is mainly software based since Gingerbread isn't intended for dual core. ICE CREAM SANDWICH should fix this issue if we will ever get an official release from LG. If not there's always XDA devs that will be more than willing to bring this update to the G2x.

Not to argue, but my reason behind saying gingerbread isn't optimized is that when Google created gingerbread there was no dual core around. The software had single core in mind. G2x users are still experiencing random reboots, but not as frequent as before.

Because the gb update is still ****!!! Cmon I think there even saying T-Mobile pulled the update to fix some bugs and gb is more optimized for dual core then froyo is what I was getting at. Dude gb is definitely good for dual core especially if optimized rite and all the bugs are worked out u can manage ur apps better and gb has a built in task killer if u choose to use it and I/0 is better. Oh and better battery management, idk I would say gb bug free is definitely great for dual core phones look at the sgs 2
Hands down a major upgrade!! I've had a mint vibrant sitting around the whole time I've had a G2x, and never have seriously considered using it during the trials and tribulations with the G2x. The GPS is all but unusable, and while the screen is very contrasty, saturated and bright, it's also grainy, not very sharp for the resolution specs. I prefer the sharpness and clarity of the G2x IPS LCD.
I ended up getting a second G2x for testing/hacking and sold the Vibrant. A good phone, but the useless GPS was completely unacceptable.

Wait for the Samsung Galaxy S II to appear in the US. I hear it's coming August. I have it now, bought out from over seas though. You can buy it from overseas and use At & t for using the 3G/4G speeds. And AT&T has a $50 unlimited talk, text, and data. Galaxy S II doesn't show up as a smartphone so you don't have to pay extra for data plan.

That said sold the vibrant and got a g2x for my wife....
I was gonna wait for a SGSII Varient, or the Hercules, but i just didnt feel like waiting for the SGSII, and the Hercules screen is probably going to be too big. So i went out and bought it.
Gonna root and put CM7 on it. Hope its worth it!
Thanks everyone!
Its definitely worth it u will be happy your video camera will do 30 fps. , u will still have screenshot, just hold power down u will see the menu, cm increased data speeds, fixed battery issues, there's touch to focus for the camera, alot of nice **** that cm has incorporated into our phone download the latest nightly it is very stable and more stable then rc1 plus more stuff has been incorporated since rc1. Oh and we have voodoo sound for the g2x which is sick just flash fauxs kernel I think he's the only one with the loading module in his kernel, and we also have tons of roms to choose from if u ain't feeling cm, I love my phone with cm tho, the g2x is the best phone state side

I previously had a Vibrant, and loved it. Unfortunately I had a pretty intense water accident with it (sat in a jacuzzi for 10 min before realizing it was in my pocket). I am eligible for an upgrade and am torn on phones. I have to get a phone by the 25th, so I can't wait for the Hercules, so I'm wondering, should I even bother with the SGS4G? By bother, I mean is it worth it to get, its almost six months old and I know that its not running on much different hardware than the vibrant (which is one reason I'm so attracted to it) but I want a beast, not a puppy when it compares to other phones in good old performance. Haha I realize now that "bother" wasn't quite the right word. I guess the better phrase is, is it worth it to get over the other new powerhouses?

I played with the sensation at the store and I liked it alot but I couldnt tell a whole lot of difference. But hardware wise the sensation has the high ground and it has sense 3.0 which I like alot. I,love my sgs4g but I personally like the sensation more. If only the new sgs4gs had 2.3.4 and tw4.5 or something new then it would be a beast.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
G2x is a solid phone, if it didnt have all the issues it would probably top the sensation. I like the g2x, stock android and very very fast! Sensation is an excellent phone as well, reminded me too much of my nexus one though.
You can't really go wrong with either one (IF you get a good g2x without problems) slim chance it seems to be. Battery life on g2x wasnt great barely 6-8 hours or so, sensation is alittle better though. Galaxy s 4g is nice, no issues running kg4 and probably getting around 2 days plus on one charge.
May want to consider a nexus s as well if you are looking at this phone. Personally I would try to hold off for another month or so, new nexus may roll out, the sgs2 or whatever itll be called? If you must choose now, pick up a cheap galaxy s4g off craigslist.
Sgs4g is great but either the sensation or g2x is def a better choice. Better dev communities and better phones period.. dual core ftw. Hercules is a phone to end all phones though.. why can't u wait??

Sensation got a good screen, but, the battery life sux. Also the call quality is not good as SG4G. Low ring ton volume is disappointing also. Audio quality (headphone) of SG4G (with voodoo) is 100 times better than Sensation.
Why not just get a phone like the Sensation on the 24th of this month and if the Hercules comes out before your 14 day return period then just swap it out for the Hercules.
But if you live in the wonderful state of California, then you get 30 days to swap it out.
You guys are all looking at software issues. Hardware wise, the other phones are newer...so of course the others will be faster, have more memory, etc. most, if not all, the issues will probably be addressed by the community. I have no complaints about this phone, but do your research on the development of the others.

Sgs4g is great but either the sensation or g2x is def a better choice. Better dev communities and better phones period.. dual core ftw. Hercules is a phone to end all phones though.. why can't u wait??

Hercules has the qualcomm snapdragon dual core, when compared to the exynos on my sgs2, it feels like comparing a core i5 to a pentium dual core. But the screen size is a plus, but it will probably kill the battery really quickly.

Tough choice, while the sgs4g is a solid device, it is older hardware wise. On the other hand the g2x and sensation has a plethora of issues.

Well the reason I can't wait is because I added a line on the 26th and only got the sim. So I have until then to get a new phone at contract price. I don't know if they will let me buy it and still have the 30 days (I live in california). Otherwise maybe I will get the sensation and hold it til the herc comes.

Or you could just keep the Sensation. The Hercules is not that much of an upgrade anyways, unless you're dying for an AMOLED+ screen.
They have the same processor. Plus, if you're into modding, the Sensation is very close to a full working build of CM7. So you can only imagine how fast that will be. And it's a qHD screen while the Hercules is not.
I think I need to research the qHD screen. It didn't look very impressive to me, but I only used the phone for 2 minutes or so. The thing is, I LOVED the super AMOLED on the vibrant.

I just left the GS4G for the Sensation. The GS4G is ok, but it's middle of the road in terms of specs these days.
Hey my upgrade deal is coming up from T-Mobile and my question is, is the extra price worth it for an HTC one s vs the gs2? I've looked at reviews and stuff but I need some xda insight. I'm leaning towards the one s but the damn price difference is where the decision lies.

I've stopped trolling and I don't think the gs4g phone is worth it anymore. I'm happy that devs are still working on it but I think I need to move on instead of begging for a new update. I've almost forgotten there are other options out there.
I don't know if it's still like this but my first android phone was a mytouch 3g slide. HTC made it and that phone was the biggest pain in the butt to get rooted due to the locked boot loader. I got the s2 and have been very happy with it.

S3 or get out of contract while you have the chance and get a gnex+$30 a month plan.

The HTC one s has been majorly upgraded it runs ics and sense 4 ( sense 4 is infinitely better than touchwiz if for no other reason the fact that touchwiz5 can be flashed as a zip onto the one s) with no worries to the one s out of the box so you get best of both worlds) has an awesome 4.3 in 900 by 560 screen res but easily a one handed device due to the thin design. Has an amazing camera a great dual core 1.5 MHz thingy ma bob (not the most tech specific term) and i could definately see the smoothness was comparable to the one x's and the gs3 but it has no expandable memory or access to battery. Oh and a HUUUUGGGE plus is that the one s has an alpha cm10 build already. So pretty much the s one is better than the s2 in every thing except for storage, price, and nfc. Seems like a no brainer right! Its just that with a 2 yr contract the one s is $150 vs the gs2's wapping 0 dollars. I could wait for the price to drop but it was at 50$ back in April when I couldn't upgrade so I doubt the price will drop that much. I feel like this post may have answered by own question lol.

For me the deciding factor would be the development community. Which one is strong and friendly.
SGS III by far.
The best phone humanity has today, with an external micro SD card slot, unique Sammy features and beasty specs.
I would get the galaxy s 2 (or 3 but you didn't mention it). HTC one s has a **** ton of hardware issues that even HTC has admitted

agreed but unfortunately the s3 isn't an option because it costs more than double my budget

I've seen both communities and because they're both popular their community is thriving. Like I said both have jb builds that are improving each day. J doubt either phone will be left behind

I'd go for HTC One S for the looks.
I'd go for [email protected]!ing fake phones from China so that i can have a Galaxy S2 look alike phone running sense, an most unstable phone tgat can be die whenever it like and a cheap phone (just 50 usd or so) that dont have to be unlocked for carriers lmfao

You should get HTC since apparently you have such a hard on for sense

I never said sense is bad. Just that you have a hard on for it.

Go look at the s2 forum, I'm running cm10 alpha on mine right now and it is official lol. It was up in the air for me between the one s and s2 as well. I would rather have reliable hardware

I'd wait til later in the year to see what the new Nexus device/devices will be. The GS4G, and mainly it's dev community, is more than enough to suffice until then

Honestly I didn't know what the big deal was when I was on this forum before I got this phone with jelly bean. And now having used it for a couple weeks I really still don't see the big deal with it. It's nice don't get me wrong but it's not leaps and bounds better than ics like gb was to ics.
All in all I'm happy with the phone. Dual core is awesome, the gig of ram also helps allot. love the bigger screen. And with the 16g internal and the 16g sd card I had from my sgs4g I don't think I will be worrying about storage problems for awhile lol
