It has been widely discussed that by adding a new APN with these settings, free tethering will be enabled. Do any of the custom roms already have these settings or some other method of circumventing the tethering identification built in?

Thanks.
Does anybody know if coredroid has the requisite APN settings built in?
I know that the hotspot feature works in CoreDroid, but there's only 2 APNs.... don't know (or care) what voodoo they used to make it happen.

When you say Wifi Hotspot works in CoreDroid, do you mean it works without adding a tethering feature to your account?
Correct. Gingerbeast does aswell

Ingersoll...I used it just the other day.
I can also assure that Inspired Ace does as well. I have unlimited data, and have not added any tethering apps, but have provided a high speed wifi connection to others on several occasions.
Miui does and so does Leedroid. With Miui I get 20-50 Kilobytes down and with Leedroid I get 400-500 Kilobytes Down. No idea why. Tried both back and forth multiple times. I am using my original radio btw.
So does Honeysense, I also have unlimited data and I just turn wifi hotspot on any time my internet service is down, and its faster than my cable internet, I get 550kb down and keep surfing without delays.
Gingerbeast and Android Revolution
ClearDroid. Works for me.

Anyone know what it is? I had mine set to Tmobile now I have no idea how to change it back (I think I've discovered a problem with MMS not sending when it's set on Tmobile APN... Just have to change it back to verify this).
I turned off boot emulation and it restored it after a reboot.
For other people, the default ATT APN is 310410.
I'd highly not recommend using Market Access to emulate it on boot.
Seems to have prevented some emails (data) from sending, as well as not allowing my MMS to send (but oddly enough... browsing and stuff still worked- which is why it took me so long to figure it out because it appeared data was working).

That is not the APN, that is the SIM card number.
The APN is how the network connects:

310410 is AT&T network id.
Captivate also suffers from MMS problem if your phone is using 2G/EDGE.

I did not know about the MMS problem but being on 3G it works fine. What the heck...
Thanks for the info nbs11.
That saved me a lot of time.
Peace
What problem does it have with mms in 2g? Mine works just fine.

Doesn't really matterrs any more. JH7 update fixed it.
It won't send MMS on EDGE when picture size > 100KB.
Hey all, could someone who is stock get the details on the default APN? I want to test a theory...

I also have the following for APN Type, other than that it is the same as above:
default,admin,fota
I was on chat with ATT and it seems to have 4G you should have "broadband" (no quotes) as the apn
I tried, but it's not working for me.
"wap.cingular" is working but the help desk told me is't only for 3G
wait and see
Interested in knowing the outcome of this...
So far not much difference. March may be the deciding factor when they turn the backhaul on and enable HSPA+ on the network. Being in DFW may have its advantages for this.
broadband as the APN does not work so well right now. No data connection at all. I haven't seen a difference between "Phone" and wap.cingular.

Your rep is wrong. I upgraded to the inspire on launch day and was able to keep my unlimited.
On the AT&T thing, if u upgrade in person, then they do change ur plan but if u would of done it online then u would of kept it...

I just went to the AT&T store and was able to change my plan to unlimited one.
What app would you recommend to wifi teather. My wife only has the ATT 15$ 200mb plan and I would like her to be able to pull from my data when we are away or on the road.
Thanks
Your Inspire should have a built-in wifi hotspot. You can add an APN that will allow the hotspot to work without AT$T's hotspot plan. To add the APN, see this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1042553
Thanks. I will give it a try. I knew there was the wifi already on there, but was worried about ATT trying to add teather plan.
I looked through the thread and saw no "off at&t teathering" apn

It doesn't specifically mention it anywhere in the OP, and I can't remember if it's mentioned within that thread, but if you create an APN as per the instructions and select it, then you'll get the wifi app to work.
From the thread:
APN: wap.cingular

I actually used "*" (without quotes) for the APN type.
Wifi tether not working, is anybody else having problems
I take it you've rooted and disabled the entitlement check, right? If that's all you did, it should work just fine. I did it within 5 mins of buying my A2.
this is true others have reported it not working something to with the dhcp server but i have had no issues at all with mine it connects transfers data and doles out 192.168 adresses
I wanted to download the Wireless tether for Root Users app but in the marketplace, I see a message saying "This item is not available on your carrier". My carrier is AT&T. I looked at a couple more wifi tether apps and I see the same message instead of a Download button. Is there any other way I can setup tethering?

How do you disable the entitlement check? There's not much info on the web concerning the atria 2.
Thanx!

Disable entitlement didn't work for me, but im on gophone and not postpaid.
EDIT: I was wrong I did have to disable entitlement, apparently the first APN I used to enable data was incorrect to also have tethering. So for gophone entitlement still needs to be disabled but use the APN below.
I found this out after a factory reset and apparently I must not have saved the entry in the entitlement box the first time around. Talk about a noob-like mistake! BUT gophoners still need the APN below:
All I did is create a new apn with the following data:
Name: AT&T
APN: wap.cingular
Proxy: leave blank
Port: 80
Username: [email protected] *must be all caps
Password: CINGULAR1 *must be all caps
Server: wireless.cingular.com
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Proxy: wireless.cingular.com
MMS Port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
Authentecation Type: leave blank
APN Type: Leave Blank
APN Protocol: IPv4
Make sure you put the tick in this APN after you create so it uses it instead of the default, I don't know if this will affect 4G.
For the lapdock to allow mobile network connectivity, turn you mobile hotspot on before connecting your phone to the dock. You will get the dialog box saying you need wifi or an alternate plan, but firefox will now run without adding tethering.
Note we do not have 4g where I live and I do not have a postpaid account. When I got my Atrix 2 and put my sim in I had no data and had to make an APN to make data work at all. While trying to make my lapdock 100 work on the mobile network, I ended up using these settings to do it. The entitlement disable method did not work for me, since my prepay is not provisioned for the same as the post paid accounts.
If nothing else this will show some prepay folks how to enable tethering.

Similar issue
I switched over almost the same day and having a similar issue with my SII Skyrocket. My setting are the same. But my issue is that when I leave 4g coverage and go to 2g I get no data. T mobile has been very good in working with me, but still has not found a solution. I assumed I wasn't the only one and am correct. Lets hope for an answer.
Have you guys tried the T-Mobile radio?? Mc6

I found a thread from 2011 about the t mobile radios but didn't see anything current. I am rooted, so I can figure out how to flash, I just haven't found anything recent that I feel comfortable with. Can you point me to a current radio?
Ucmc6 is latest jelly bean radio for T-Mobile its probably in vincoms stickies or in the t989 Hercules forum
