Hey everyone, i am looking for some help with setting up my voicemail.
I have the inspire 4g with att, its rooted and running cm7 as of right now. on this rom and the stock with root i cannot set up my voicemail to use google voice. i cant even set it up in general, actually. when i go into settings and tell it to use google voice, it tries to load for a second, then says something about forwarding settings or something then kicks me out. (does this on stock rom and CM7)
does anyone have a solution? id like for my phone to not just ring and ring and ring and ring... you get it
thanks in advance for the help!
Should not be a new thread. Should be posted in the CM7 thread.
well I would put it in the cm thread, but it doesn't work on any rom I use.

So what? That's not how it works here. New threads in the development section are strictly for subjects directly related to developing for the device.
In other words, are you a developer, or a consumer of the products of a developer?
Questions go in a rom-related, preferably, and otherwise in the general section.
After, of course, you've searched exhaustively for an answer first, with no luck.

I wanted to try and take advantage of the HUSPA in my area and flashed the Cognition ROM on my phone. It went perfect on the first time and the ROM worked perfect except my 3G has slowed down to below 56k modem speeds. Since then I tried going back to stock 2.1, stock 2.2, and tried other modems and nothing has fixed my issue. My phone is out of warranty so I am stuck.
Does anyone have any ideas? I am no Android expert, so please keep that in mind in replies.
Thanks,
-B
There's a Cognition sticky in the Q&A subforum where questions like this should go instead of starting new threads in the wrong forum. Please use the sticky.
Oops? I don't see a move button.
I am also not sure the issue this is related to the ROM specifically. That's why I posted here.
*Moderator please move if applicable. *

If you don't think it's a cog problem then still post in q&a. That stands for question and answer.
It is specifically a cog question. It is because cog uses official kb1 firmware as a base which means att says no HSUPA for you. You can still use cog you just need to change the kernel and modem to an i9000 and then speed galore. While your at it switch to a i9000 rom because at that point it just makes sense.

If you guys put as much energy into *actually answering* questions as you do into telling people they were posting in the wrong area, I bet this forum would be twice as productive.
And. . . thanks for the warm welcome!

If newbies would put half as much effort into reading the forum rules and actually searching and looking around the forum before starting new threads we'd have more time to spend helping people instead of constantly educating them on standard forum etiquette.
Now, if any of us were being paid to be here to help others we would probably be a bit more tolerant, but since we are all just volunteers I think we have a right to try and keep the forum as tidy as possible.
Mine was doing the same thing out of the blue. It was fine but started being REALLY slow after flashing Cognition. A fresh flash after master clear fixed it for me.
I don't get paid to be polite to a stranger either, but I try to do it out of common courtesy. This isn't an exclusive club, and its not my first posting in a forum. I've searched and read stickies.
Why don't you let the moderators moderate.
Go stir another pot, thread closed.

Mr. Thin Skin, nobody was rude to you. I've even tried to be humorous in my responses, but it appears the abrasive one is you. I have the full support of the mods in what I do here, so take your complaints to them. And you don't get to close a thread, only a mod can you arrogant *****.
If you had "full support" then why aren't you a mod? For real, I'm pretty sick of the senior people here giving answers like this. If you don't want to help, don't help, they'll flounder on their own. I know it sucks to be asked the same question over and over, but it happens. We need to either ignore it, and let the thread die, or help, imo. Who gives a crap if there are questions in General? Again, IMO, there shouldn't be 2 separate forums, because no one gets it, there should be General, Accessories, Development, and Themes and Apps.

I thought I answered your question very directly. Only iphone 4 users get access to HSUPA with att branded phones. Official att captivate phones don't. Switch your kernel and modem and you'll be fine.

I flash my GF's phone with Gingerbread and after a few roms shes having voicemail notification and low wifi calling volume issues. Ive been told flashing back to Froyo will fix these so ive decided to return the phone back to stock. Can someone point me in the right direction on how to do this? Maybe an Odin file containing the stock rom? I would like it to have root again but its not a requirement. I can always root it again myself. Main thing at the moment is completely restoring it to how it was from the factory.

You can flash this via ODIN. From there you can use Kies Mini to get back to stock.
If you're just wanting KD1 with root, check out the Bible.
The Bible is a good read; it has a lot of stuff in it.
Unless your gf is giving you too much grief about making her phone meet it's potential... you should update her rom to one of the new official amazing custom GB roms. Any issue she could have has been or is being addressed. You need to read. READ. Search for your issues and read. Don't waste people's time asking questions like this as you will learn more figuring it out on your own.
I had a voicemail notification issue... I read and figured out you need the Visual Voicemail app to have functioning voicemail. Your wifi issue has been discussed thoroughly MANY times. Read and u shall be enlightened with knowledge and can impress her with an amazing phone.
As the last poster said you are on 2.3.3. That was before the devs had the official code. Follow their direction, flash an official rom, read the forum for issues and fixes the rom may have (even stock roms have issues) and give her phone back improved.

Thank you. I will try flashing the WiFi calling listed in that thread first to see if it fixes the low sound problem. My main point was I wanted to restore it back to 100% factory stock for a fresh start.

She does not care about potential, she wants reliability. I dont want anything custom I just want it back to how it was shipped from the factory. I have read plenty. Last time I was here Gingerbread was out for these phones and people were using it with no issues, however that is not the case for me. I was told that the only way to fix those issues were to go back to Froyo so thats all I was asking. Visual voicemail is already installed in the phone but that is not a fix, that is a workaround. I need to fix the issue. I dont even want an official rom that has issues. I want the one it came with when it was shipped so its reliable and functional. If it was my phone I would be all for messing with it but I dont need to be troubleshooting her phone all the time. I am experienced with HTC's not Samsungs, all this Samsung formatted ROM business is confusing to me. All I was asking was a simple "Flash this via Odin to get back to stock" kinda answer, not for someone to tell me to read. It was a simple question that required a simple answer.
Sorry, but that simple question really only required a simple search.
A simple search and a little effort would have brought you to this thread, and solve your dilemma.

I think if you had made the effort to find a fix and actually READ you might understand why I encouraged you to read up on it instead of asking the redundant question that has been answered more than once in the forum. All these lazy questions clog the forum with junk threads that bury all the good information. Think about it that way.

If you read a little maybe you would see the frustration from the developers from people not reading. We need these guys! We don't need to keep pissing them off and making it not worth their effort to share their work with all of us!!

Im pretty sure the Q&A forum is for questions and answers. I did not post a question in the Development thread. Im not too sure how asking how to stock restore a phone will piss any developers. Cant expect everything good to stay on the first page forever. Remember theres a search feature to find anything that will get buried

I know it's an old posting and solved problem, but not for me. I've been receiving normal Voicemail notifications for months - after rooting my phone and removing the T-Mobile Visual Voicemail app. Then, suddenly, 3 days ago, the notification icon simply disappeared. So, sometimes the answers posted here are helpful and correct for many users, but they are certainly not foolproof. Criticizing someone who posts a question and assuming that person did no research toward solving the problem is shortsighted.
Also, I just restored the T-Mobile Visual Voicemail app using the free version of Titanium Backup. This did get the notification icon to start working again - at least for one test message left by my wife. Too soon to see if it this fix will last.
My questions are these: why did my Voicemail notification work fine for months - without the T-Mobile Visual Voicemail app installed, and what made the icon stop working?

No idea. But, I had same issue long long time ago. delete data from TMV app with titanium and then delete the whole app. re download it from playstore, install and was good to go. Try it.
Hi,
I have a big problem with MIUI rom. If someone try to call me, phone does nothing, no incoming call.
Trying to search on every forum which i know, but without result.
1. This is dev section
2. Do not create special threads because something does not work
3. Did you even read what is working or not working in this ROM? I'll tell you. No calls possible.

I know this is a problem for you, but you are not justified in posting this thread here in the Development forum.
Ask your question in the Q&A section, and if someone wants to answer it, they will.
You can't force your questions in places they don't belong. Plus when you do this, it shows a blatant disrespect for the forum and it's community, which further reduces the chances of anyone actually coming forward and bothering to answer your question.

Not getting DATA.
^ THIS is why the ICS beta for G2x is not posted here.
CM9 is not a full release, has a bunch of disclaimers attached to it, and is not yet supported.
Devs that bust their as*es on a rom for 5 months or so don't want to put up with a bunch of "this won't work, that won't work, please help me" posts as soon as their rom is made available. Unfortunately, that is what the majority of the thread over in General consists of. So guess what will happen when the release is posted in Development?
Spend some time searching around and reading the threads. The answer to your issue is out there. If you're not willing to find it, then go back to whatever rom you had before.

In your mobile networks settings, within the apn you use, make sure encryption is explicitly set to something, even if it is none. My carrier needs none, but cm7 on my phone defaulted in none set, which wouldn't work.

Hey guys, this is my first post on the forum.
I checked some other threads to make sure they don't have the exact criteria that i'm posting and
couldn't find anything, so to the mods, i'm sorry if this has already been discussed.
Please notify me and I will re-route to the correct thread.
I've had an htc aria(liberty, gratia) for the past two years and I rooted it and flashed cyanogenmod but that was the extent of my knowledge.
I've now switched carriers to Sprint and am running a MotoPhoton Q 4g Lte(rooted and custom recovery).
The reason for this post is I've noticed what seems to be a general lack of developers for this device (partially because the stock rom is very efficient), but I would like to start contributing.
I've got plenty of free time and would consider myself generally competent, and i've browsed the android developer's site for app building.
The question I present to the community (particularly developers) is how did you learn the system and get to where you are? What tools did you find easiest to use that also helped you learn the essentials? I would particularly like to develop roms and platforms, but would it be best to start with apps?
I hope my questions were clear and correctly placed, thanks in advance for any replies!
EDIT: this should be in Q&A
Moved. At least you realised where it should be so happy to help
Thanks

Google has a nice training center for sdk & dev, might be a good starting point.
