Brother its all in what u want. I would recommended checking the specs for both at http://www.phonearena.com/phones and also this sgs4g is pretty amazing with the tweaks and mods I have already it is buttery smooth and the screen is brilliant. But like I said check the specs and figure which one fits you better.

Well the G2 has more roms but the SGS4G is more powerful and will probably start getting roms soon so i would recomend keeping it if you have a some patience

If you want a mans phone get the samsung. It seems built more for adults. The G2 reminds me of a teens phone. Just my opinion of course. GREAT roms for the phone already though. But we will be getting some good stuff here soon.
Thanks guys im keeping my Samsung the G2 is a nice phone. But I love my samsung front facing camera I do like video chatting with my girl. Plus getting a little show every now and then since both are going to different colleges. I do like the ginger bread rom on my samsung.

I love my phone and all but in all honesty, return the phone and get the htc sensation or lg g2x. Much much better phones at the same price that are also a little more future proof than this phone.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
Same price? I got my SGS4G on flex pay for 50$.
EDIT: Once CM7 comes to our phones it will be future proof. Hell the G1 has 2.2.1 on it thanks to CM.

Hell I have gingerbread running smooth on my old g1that I still play with thanks to COS-DS. Runs good on the g1 actually...check the g1 dev forum if you still have one of those phones.
And yeah the g2 is a nice phone for its form factor. If you like a physical keyboard it has a really nice one. But the with g2x be careful. There are reports of alot of hardware problems, screen problems and other issues. Read up on the g2x before jumping in to that one.

2.3 on the G1? Wow. Didn't think people used it actually still. My friend has 2.3.4 for his Cliq.

Greetings,
I've never had an Android phone. I'm still using a Behold and a Storm II for work.
I bought a Nook Color, and I've been running Honeycomb for a few weeks.
I'm ready to bail on T-Mobile and go to ATT while I can still get a good deal on a phone for being a new customer, and the refurb Captivate is free.
I'll try the OEM 2.2 release, then probably root.
If you knew then what you know now, would you still get a Captivate?
I would, imho still the most customizable phone out there. I was mad because 4 days after my 30 day the phone was free for black friday.
I would buy it . If u don't wana wait if u wait till first week of April Samsung galaxy s2 is coming with all the frequency bands on it. So its 3g compatible basically with all carriers.

The deal with the refurb phone is that you run a chance at getting one that has a shutdown problem. There are still some refurbs floating around in their stock that hasn't been repaired by Samsung (despite what AT&T claims) that resolves a random shutdown problem. I know this because I got a refurb that had this problem and I had to send it to Samsung to have it repaired (I got my Cappy last December).
Other than the problem I had with it initially the phone rocks and I am glad I got it at the price of a two year contract renewal and no more.
DONT GET A REFURB. you want the full warranty just in case.
The main problems with Captivates is the crappy (useless on stock) GPS, warranty is good for getting a replacement if your phone has issues. The other problem is the random shutdown problem. it happened to an earlier batch and doubtful you would get one with that issue.
I LOVE mine, best screen i have seen and a great phone with a custom ROM which is not too difficult to install.
I beg to differ. We got better display (samoled), more roms, more kernels, and more developers. What about unlocking? We got that. HTC don't. Ton of themes. HTC is heavy and the battery case is hard to open. We got 16gb on board and HTC got 8gb. Maybe I just like my captivate.

I used to have a Cappy, so I know what I'm talking about. Glad I ditched it.
Display - yeah, SAMOLED is better, although it's pretty good on the Inspire as well.
Roms - I've only tried CM7 on the Inspire, but it's been far nicer than any of the custom roms I've tried on the Captivate. The Cappy ones are great, but CM7 just has so many more features. I know you guys are getting CM7, eventually, but looks like it'll take a while.
Unlocking - yes it is possible to unlock the Inspire, in fact the initial rooting program does it for you.
Weight - it's a little heavier than my old Cappy but it doesn't bother me too much.
Battery door - it was only hard to open the first few times, now it's easy.
Memory - yes Cappy has more to begin with, but it is possible to change out the SD card in the Inspire to a bigger one. Cappy has 16gb internal, Inspire has an 8gb SD card bundled.
Oh yeah the Inspire's GPS actually works pretty well, and HTC actually seems to care about putting updates out for their phones. That was my biggest gripe with the Captivate, is just that Samsung didn't seem to give a **** about their customers after sale. Of course custom roms and such from here were very helpful.
No. Wait for the Galaxy S2

If you weren't so close to other phones (and better phones) being launched, I would say get a Captivate. At this point though, wait for the new phones. Plus you never know with AT &T now buying T-Mobile, the deals should be a plenty.

First week of April? You sure?
Captivate is an awesome phone minus the GPS issue which a lot of the roms do seem to "almost" fix. Awesome battery life, great screen and TONS of roms.
If you can't wait, get it... But if I were you, I'd wait for the S2.
I say yes!!!

captivates a great phone inspire is a great phone, and the gs2 will be a great phone.
take your pick.
My Inspire destroys my Captivate. Even unlocking the phone is faster. The Inspire has Sense ROM's, MIUI and Cyanogenmod support, a true AOSP build in the works, and RoyalLiquid is being ported from the MyTouch 4G. The Captivate has just now gotten Cyanogenmod support. Pretty much everything else in the Captivate Dev section is the same ROM with a different theme (no offence to the Capybara devs).
The Captivate has one thing over the Inspire: a SAMOLED screen.
All of this being said, it's all fact beside the first sentence. YMMV. They're both awesome phones but better phones are around the corner.
I gat a refurb 5 days later sent it back when I knew they will send

All in all, the Captivate is a great contender when it comes to these kinda phones. I love this thing. lol
hey guys i've been avidly lurking in xda for a year now and running my cappy on GR-11 and I love it to death but my friend gave me his nexus S for free because he broke the simcard reader but i fixed it so now i have a free nexus S!! anyways i need to sell one of them but what should i keep? the cappy has awesome dev support and it can record 720p but the nexus is aosp andseems much more polished as a phone even with much less dev wsupport.
what should i go for? the main thing concerning me with keeping the nexus S is that it might not grow in dev support. is this true u think?
thanks, your friendly e-hood awesome man
obviously keep the nexus S, its got much better software support
NS any day of the week.
Yeah, this is an easy one. Listen to those guys^^^^^.
Before the official specs were released I said that once the Nexus S was available on AT&T I would snatch it up. That is until I realized that it had no external sd card slot. That is a huge deal breaker for me as I flash a ton of roms and keep all my music and backed up apks on there for convenience.
I absolutely love the captivate though and since it has such a large community of devs (I'm including I900 devs as well because how easy some things can be ported) I don't think I'll truly need a new phone for a long time.
duh....the nexus s....it's great for developing
but the dev support for nexus S is much smaller than cappy and also i cant watch hd movies on NS
Keep the Captivate. Why? Because the Nexus sells for more $.

Hahaha. I agree with this comment...
The Captivate with the new GB development that's booming still has amazing potential. Yeah, the NS already has GB, but the Captivate's still a great phone that's been cracked and tweaked in almost every way possible...

The Captivate devs will eventually move on now that the SGS II is here. So it's really up to you.
The NS is pretty new but dev support will keep growing for it. And it will get all the latest OS updates first!

Best answer ever!
I would keep the Captivate purely because 16GB is not enough for me. Nexus S lacks a micro SD slot. But if you couldn't live without a FF camera or NFC (lol) then Nexus S.

ok heres the deal im thinking of buying this phone by tonight and i was wondering what you guys recommend me if to buy it or does this phone has as much problems as the Samsung galaxy s vibrant i know its not in the galaxy s family but it is still Samsung. so what do you guys think should i get it? sorry if it was asked before ill be honest i didn't do my research to see if this was already asked or mentioned in this forum like i said i wanna make the decision by tonight. thank you in advance.
i've had the phone for about a month now and i couldn't be happier. Like most people have said, its ultimately an upgraded captivate with an amazing screen. I haven't had any bugs with it. It seems that the GB roms send to suck up the battery a lot faster though which prompted me to downgrade back to a froyo ROM (infused 1.6).
First droid, wife has iphone 4. This is way better! Worse pixels and you can see it on text and other things. I love it and don't think id go back. Iphone 5 is coming soon, so the droid that has to.compete with that will be epic, dual processors and all that. As of today tho i love mine

I'm loving my Infuse even though there's only like three ROMs. xD
I'll be putting out a custom ROM and Kernel soon though!
I wasn't sure about the infuse at first, but after all the gb roms and now the Cam fix with kernel and modems I love it.

So far i like my infuse no real problems only thing that bothers me is the reception i get when ever im indoors its horrible. I recently seen a Lg thrill for a very good price and im seeing mixed emotions about it. Would it be a upgrade from the infuse? Is the dev scene really ever going to get rolling on it?? It seems preety dead but i just like changing things up alot. What do you guys think?

The thrill is a nice phone. I have one on its way and look forward to tinkering with it. The main thing I have heard is the horrible battery life and some people have gotten a bad batch. The battery life is my main concern but I am sure with a bit of tweaking it can be manageable, also they have cheep extended life batteries on eBay. I say if you want to take a gamble go for it! The lg g2x I had on Tmobile before switching to att was a fantastic phone that other people had issues with but I found none with mine.

So i got an thrill off my local craigslist and its just no where near as good as my infuse. The 3dis a cool feature but it warns you to take a break if your eyes get tired it will cause dizziness. I cant look at 3d content it makes me feel high every time i look at somethign real. Ehhhh well i hope i didnt brick my infuse back to the old faithful ( HOPEFULY)

If you don't want to spend much, go for it. For it's price, it's an amazing phone. One thing to note is that stock firmware isn't the greatest, so if you want to see the true potential of the device, flash CM7/EB or Weapon G2x.

The G2x, in my opinion. Is a great phone. I have had it for about a month now and I will say I have not had one single problem with it. This thing is quick!
I have flashed every ROm that xda and others have to offer and have always reverted back to stock and just rooted it. But for me I can't use use a ROm that has issues. Not saying that the ROM's that have been posted by the DEV's here on xda aren't great roms, as they all offer something different and it is strictly user preference on which you will/could use. I just find that stock runs flawlessly for me.
But as for the phone? I came from a Sensation, this G2x royally kicks the Sensations backside. And I will be using this G2x for quite awhile.
For me it is definitely a great phone, cheap, fast, and look pretty darn cool.
